First off... let me say, I wasn't sure about this place since I never really liked Mediterranean food but the girls wanted to try it. The restaurant was nice and the decor was really beautiful. Very clean and friendly atmosphere. The bathrooms were gender neutral. Our server, Jose (I believe, I could be wrong though) was very accommodating and helpful when it came to us ordering. He was such a sweet guy. My girl, bride to be ordered some appetizers.. one was the roasted Brussels sprouts & it was DELICIOUS! Just the right amount of spicy! And I hate spicy food, but I could of ate it all by myself lol. I had the egg Benedict with avocado and bacon... DAMN! it was amazing! Sooooo much flavor. Everything was great! Moussaka Mediterranean Kitchen is SO GOOD! My favorite Mediterranean/ Greek place around town. The restaurant interior is nice and cozy, and service is great here. For the food, my go to order is the hummus and dolmades for appetizers. Then for entrees we like the chicken skewers and moussaka. The tzatziki sauce for the chicken is to die for, and the moussaka is super rich and creamy - even for people who don't like eggplants, I highly recommend the moussaka. The food was fresh and presentation was excellent. We ordered the appetizers which were for two people and Falafel balls enough for three people. We enjoyed the nice warm pita bread - it was cut in triangles. The lamb shank was served in a Moroccan dish with couscous alongside. Nice flavor, not sweet but savory. We ended with dessert: sea salt gelato with truffle and bread pudding with brandy honey sauce and of course, Turkish coffee to complement dinner. Jose is a joyful, smiley young waiter who gave us excellent service. He recommended the dishes and was so accommodating in our wishes like to try the sauce first before ordering the bread pudding! I've always wanted to try this place, but the prices kept me away. I enjoy Mediterranean food but it's not a cuisine that I would normally splurge on. The menu is amazing and i would of liked to get a little bit of everything but price wise it didn't work. I recommend dining as a group if you want to tackle the menu. Initially, my plan was to get my food to go. But when the hostess asked if i wanted a table for one, I instantly changed my mind and dinned in. My waitress was the absolute best. Very attentive and always carried a smile. The decor and ambiance is beautiful. I went during the day but I'm sure it is even more attractive at night. The chairs are even comfy. Lol. The location is great and finding parking is relatively easy. I ordered a small side of Brussels sprouts and the combo kebap plate. It came with lamb & chicken skewer, kofte kebap and beef/lamb gyro. The rice definitely needs a shout out bc it was absolutely delicious. I couldn't stop eating it. All in all the food was good. I wouldn't say that this was the best Mediterranean food I've eaten, but in comparison to the other places I've been too, I'd say this place is perfect if you are looking for something more trendy. Gave it another shot with my husband. We had dinner here las week for our anniversary. The bread you get when seated was good soft and warm. For an appetizer we got the calamari. It was chewy and hard to swallow. We sent it back. The chicken lemonado was okay. My husband had the meat mousaka which was good. The limoncello mascarpone cake for dessert was bomb. What a delicious, vibing, fun restaurant! The person I was with and I chose this place because it looked nice on the inside and outside and had a seemingly great Mediterranean menu. We were seated after a few minutes which was really good for around 7 pm on a Friday night. The person I was with wanted to be adventurous so he ordered us octapodaki (octopus) for the appetizer. The flavor was there, but the texture was not. I thought it was good, but not something I would want to order again. The presentation was beautiful, however. As for main entrees, he ordered the Iskender (Alexander) and I ordered the chicken shawarma. We both LOVED our meals. The chicken shawarma was spiced to perfection. The rice was SO good and made PERFECTLY. The prices are a little steep, but the portions are very large and you pay for the ambiance and atmosphere. The real gem of the night, however, was our server José. José was a shining star illuminating the entire restaurant. He was the most jubilant, kind, attentive, and wonderful waiter I have ever had. We all ended up having a good conversation about him and his life and dreams and aspirations and it was just so heart-warming and beautiful to be apart of. As for the food, it was decent but lacked the bold flavors I expected. As a person of color who loves spice, I was really disappointed they didn't have chili flakes. Their "hot sauce" was essentially a watered-down version of chili, with no real heat to it. This left the food feeling bland and one-dimensional, which was a shame because the quality of the ingredients seemed good. The one redeeming factor was the ambiance. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a pleasant place to dine, despite the flaws. Overall, the restaurant has potential, but they need to step up their game--both in staffing and in bringing more flavor to the table. Would I come back? I ordered the small beet salad and a prawn skewer which came with 4 marinated jumbo shrimp. The beet salad was delicious and what really made it was the lemon dressing. It wasn't oily, it tasted fresh and complimented the beets and oranges in the salad perfectly. The walnuts on the salad were a nice touch too. It was a healthy, clean meal which is typically what I try to go for so I'll definitely be ordering from here again when I'm low on time for cooking. My only qualm is the price. Adding protein to any salad will increase the price quite a bit and it felt like I was breaking the bank for only a small amount of food. But overall, great tasting food! read more

We were greeted graciously by a gentleman who set up a table for us so we didn't have to sit by the door. The lunch menu has a lot of options. There was not enough pita, but that's okay. What we didn't finish before lunch arrived was used in creative ways. I ordered the beef and lamb doner. It was meet you'd find in a gyro with a salad and rice. I added some baba ghanoush to the salad and a few bites of the meat. The meat was tender and tasty. The salad was very fresh, with delightful tomatoes, other light veggies and pickles on the side. The meal was wonderful and plentiful. I could not finish it all, though I gave it the old college try. My engaging lunch partner ordered the Chicken Skewers. She used the oil from the baba ghanoush as a flavor enhancer. She did not comment on the meal,but she cleaned her plate. They have one large rest room very clean. They do a lot of take out orders and reservations if needed. This place is very date, family, or like me single groupie friendly. Lots of people come regularly (once a week). The waitstaff are young competent (seemingly) college kids. They go out if they're way too make sure you get what you need. I had driven past Moussaka's many times and never even thought of stopping to try them out. I'm so glad I finally did because it was an awesome surprise. When we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly, upbeat and welcoming waiter named Jose. He quickly sat us down and took our drink order. He then let us know that his co-worker Ella would be taking over, but that he would still be around to help. Ella was just as helpful and nice as Jose. We ordered the Big appetizer platter which had the most delicious and refreshing Dolmades that I have ever tasted. I'm not a big fan of baba ganoush but the dolmades were so delicious I decided to try it and it definitely did not disappoint. The falafels were moist and not dried out like most falafels I've had in the past. I ordered the lamb and beef gyro, rice and salad and I can honestly say that everything was delicious. To our surprise at the end of our meal, Chef Niles who is also the owner came out and personally introduced herself to us and asked how we liked our meal. It was such a pleasure to talk with her and get to know a little about her and her restaurant. Finally found an amazing Mediterranean restaurant in San Leandro after losing Luke's Grill during the pandemic. Friendly staff, fun atmosphere, and delicious food - what else could I want? We started ordering from the food delivery services during the pandemic, and now drop in weekly to this neighborhood gem. Be sure to order the saganaki (flaming Greek cheese). The owner/head chef comes to your table to light the Brandy - a fun show. A nice plus: the fresh dessert counter that includes Turkish delights such as pomegranate pistachio candy. Other desserts such as cheesecake and tiramisu are also available. The owner picks them up regularly to keep fresh items on hand. read more

The complimentary pita bread and olive oil dip was delicious. However, the entrees fell a little short for me. My stuffed eggplant was pretty greasy and just had a tomato taste. The fiancé got the chicken schwarma and it was alright, just a light curry flavor. We also shared the breaded calamari and the batter was kind of hard/dry. Overall, the food was okay. This is a great spot for your typical Mediterranean fare....charred octopus, lamb kebabs, hummus, and I had a fabulous dish called Moussaka Meat which is served in a small cast iron skillet and baked in the skillet. It's sliced eggplant with a meat sauce and a corn bread topping with cheese. Very tasty! We brought our own wine ($15 corkage, very friendly) although they did have several interesting wines and beer on tap....very nice wait staff !! A friend suggested this restaurant stating it was very good. I was very disappointed , the service was terrible. Our table of 4 ordered dinners. 3 dinners arrived after 15 minutes. After waiting another 15 minutes we inquired about the 4th. We were informed that the meat was being prepared. Why were we not told this earlier Also we requested a take out meal. Our bill arrived but did not include the take out. We were told that the kitchen was closed and we would not get our take out order. Additionally our server was lax we had to get his attention numerous times to get Additional drinks. Food was blah...ordered medium rare lamb skewers...overdone and chewy...rice was too salty. The restaurant was not crowded so the service should have been much better. Will never return. There are other Mediterranean restaurants that are much better. read more

I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap with a side of fries. The food did take some time to come out, but wasn't too bad. We got a free plate of fresh pita and olive oil dip. Honestly, I could've just gotten full off of those! The pita was super fresh and perfectly chewy. The spices in the olive oil were also delicious. The chicken shawarma wrap was good. I kept dipping my fries into the olive oil. Sounds weird, but it was so good. What a nice find! We were famished after a hike around Lake Chabot and decided to pick up some food on the way home. Checked Yelp for good options along our route and picked Moussaka. We ordered two of their doner wraps and some baba ganoush. Pickup was a breeze at their dedicated pickup window.
