So far so bad. This is a run down hotel with a spruced up lobby. My room is small and outdated. The toilet is broken and the phone inside my room does not work. "When Marriott launched the Moxy brand, they chose Tempe Arizona to pop the cherry." Seriously? This is the beginning of their description for this place? Well, yeah, it is, and that gives you an idea of what kind of place this is. It thinks it's edgy and cool, but in reality, it's cheap and barely OK as a hotel. The vibe is more fraternity house with nightly charges. Someone at Marriott gave a 19-year-old the opportunity to design a hotel, I guess. Am I the demographic this place is trying to appeal to? Clearly not, but I think even edgy Gen Z types would like to stay in a place that provides a glass or even a plastic cup in the room so you can rinse out your mouth when you brush your teeth or after you puke from a night of partying in the fraternity house down the street (a scenario this ultra-edgy hotel would prefer you to experience, by the way). They might even want to have a washcloth to clean that puke off their faces, but they don't provide those either. They don't bother with a closet, but hey, you get pegs to hang your clothes on. In fact, those cool pegs hang right over the TV, but you didn't really want to watch TV, did you? You can always throw your clothes on the floor when you fire up Netflix for a few eps of Bridgerton. What they do provide, however, is a guitar in your room. Well, OK, I guess. They also provide an enormous bean bag chair in each room, and I can only guess what happens on that thing. I know we didn't want to sit on it, and having had a bean bag chair at one time in my younger days, I know it's darned near impossible to get that washable cover off, clean it, then wrestle the bag back into it after it's been through a dryer. I'm guessing the housekeepers know the same thing. However, it was good for blocking the arctic blast from the air conditioner which is perfectly aligned with the head of the bed. When it's 100 degrees outside, you need the A/C, but when it blows straight at your face, yeah, you'll likely get pneumonia by morning. The bean bag and the extra bed pillows helped on that front by diverting the direct air flow. I didn't even mention the motion-sensor lights that come from beneath the bed! Got to puke in the middle of the night? No problemo -- just roll out of bed, and the floor lights up to show you the way to the bathroom. Don't need to get out of bed? No problem again -- the lights come on randomly all damn night, waking you about every 10 minutes until you finally crawl under the platform and figure out how to unplug them. By the way, when you get up in the night to puke, don't forget that the bathroom door is one of those trendy sliding barn door things, because if you grab the door handle to open it the normal way, you'll derail it. Can't have you getting crushed by the bathroom door when you were merely trying to recycle your margaritas. Other interesting tidbits: -- The housekeepers don't come into your room at all. We returned to our room after being away all day to find no clean towels, an unmade bed, and the same almost-used-up roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. (Extra roll in the bathroom? Of course not!) We'd resorted to using Kleenex by the time we checked out the next morning. -- The door into your room is frosted glass on the top half. Every room has DISTURB printed on the glass. There's a black roller shade inside the door, so in order to have privacy and not see the hall lights through the glass, you pull the shade down to imply DO NOT DISTURB. At least that's what we assumed. We rolled the shade up when we left for the day to let housekeeping know the room was available to be disturbed. Didn't work. -- The check-in desk is the bar. They hand you two tokens for free drinks when you check in. We cashed them in for bottles of water instead and got drinks in places with more ambience. They have a variety of places to sit in the extremely dark lobby, plus various games to play while hanging out. (Think college dorm lobby, and you're spot-on.) -- The carpet in the hallways already looks like a bad night at the fraternity house. If you're not feeling well, don't look down when staggering to your room. -- Lots of broken beer bottles in the parking lot. Pick your parking spot carefully, and beware the homeless dude in the lot who accosted us as we were leaving at 7:30 on a Sunday morning. He asked for money, swore he wanted to use it to buy a bar of soap, then cussed us out and wished us a fiery death on the highway on our trip home. He left us with a warm, fuzzy feeling after our two nights in Arizona's weirdest hotel experiment. read more

Do NOT stay here! I seriously wish I would have read the reviews prior to booking. Horrible. This place is dirty! The cabanas pool side are nasty. The carpets throughout the hotel are gross! The room smelled so musty. A cockroach crawled across our hotel floor. The room bathroom had long hair on the seer wall when we checked in. Lashes were in the sink! We checked in on a Friday night for a graduation at ASU. The place was a full party in the lobby. People were bringing in their own beer. Walking up to the room, the halls smelled like pot. What we were anticipating was a a cool vibe. The vibe was ruined by roaches and filth! Please trust the reviews and book somewhere else. read more

I had a great experience at this hotel. The staff are really nice, even when it is super busy due to ASU Move-in week. My room wasn't ready when I checked in so the bartender gave me free drinks, and they even gave me free parking. I also brought my dog and I was surprised at how pet friendly it is. Spending $122 a night for this place is a joke. The Staff was very friendly though that's the only good thing about this place. Not to mention that the power went out in the whole hotel and was never refunded for that night. When I stepped in my room for the first time I regretted not spending the extra $30 for the other hotel. If you don't like motel 6s don't come here. The debate team was staying here for the tournament. So we stayed here as well. Interesting vibe when you first walk in. The check in area is actually located in the bar. Guitars hanging on the wall for guests to play. Our room was below standards for a Marriott owned property. There was an immediate musty odor when we first stepped into our room, which we could not get rid off by opening the balcony door. There was also a strong smell of marijuana in the hall. But the hotel is nearby ASU. We figured college students stay here. So while it was a below average stay for us, it is an okay stay for college students with low expectations. read more

It only had a small garbage can in the bathroom, and without housekeeping during Covid-19 that can become a bit of a pain. This place is a dump. Dirty. Musty. Smoky. Short staffed. Avoid this place if you have a choice. To say this place put some lipstick on a pig is an insult to pigs. Things I didn't like: 1) the front desk is not made clear at all!! The lobby is the same as the bar and games area and the check in desk isn't marked. I walked around like a frustrated fool looking around for where to check in since no sign was around. 2) the dinner food is all microwaveable. Literally, you pick one of 4-5 entrees and you microwave that shit. Wtf... 3) carpets are hard to roll your luggage on 4) elevators are discrete. Which is odd considering the bright paint everywhere else. 5) there's no fridge or microwave in the room 6) there's no room service so get all the stuff you need beforehand. Especially since there's no little area for things like razors, toothpaste, etc. I did enjoy the pool, the rooms, the TV which has Netflix and Hulu. Customer service was fine (although when I heard that "a lot of people get confused about where the lobby is", I wanted to angrily say "then maybe you should mark it instead of having frustration be the first thing your guests feel." Overall, I think this place is great to stay with a group or some friends in tow, but not alone. Meaning, if you're coming here to mingle, make friends, and just be a part of a group of other vacationers, then maybe find somewhere else. Oh, also, there's not that many kids or families here and the hotel is INSANELY close to the college (#fratparties). Ultimately, stay here for the cute, hipster-modern vibe, the random guitar just chillin in the room, and the games. If you want a classic hotel with normal amenities then go somewhere else. Really wanted to like this hotel, especially since I've stayed at over 15 different Marriott hotels in Phoenix over the past 6 months. Located not far from downtown Tempe and the ASU campus, 11 min from the airport the Moxy is in a great location. The pink sign is easy to find from the street However, for some terrible reason the awning in front of the hotel is open to the elements, and it was raining a ton when we first got there. Why have a roof thats open to the elements? Got in there soaking wet late Thursday (and no one to help unload from the car either). Front desk was empty, staff on duty were nice but incompetent. Took over 10 minutes for check-in (only gave me a slightly larger room after requesting it as a Titanium ambassador and that took another 5 minutes). Was supposed to get a welcome drink but I had to read up on it and ask as opposed to getting it offered (and was only offered to me and not my friend staying with me). At least they let me borrow an umbrella so I can go back out into the thunderstorm. They are stocked with a variety of games ranging from foosball, pool, jenga, pinball machines, etc. Get to the room, and its a decent size. Bed had thin covers but relatively comfortable. Sliding door for the bathroom so that's different, but worked well enough. Room was fairly dark, the patio let in an ok amount of light but nothing like the Westin with floor to ceiling windows. There is decent amount of sitting area, and guitar is a plus. Now wake up in the morning and there is a giant leak through the ceiling, room smells like mildew. Had to take a number of calls throughout the day so moved rooms later - all I got was a small $13.33 voucher for my trouble. And even worse, the hotel bill didn't take it off my drinks after I checked out. Later found out the hotel used to be a dorm, then a holiday inn, residence inn, and finally a Moxy. NOT A NEW HOTEL! The gym door didn't work either for my key card, staff was indifferent, sent engineering to open the door but didn't look into why my room key wouldnt open it. Left the gym, couldn't get back in, and gave up. Literally, the worst stay I've ever had in a hotel in years. Let's see if the GM even cares and offers to contact me. read more

First time ever staying at a Moxy hotel and it was surprisingly super rad! Skyler at the front desk was so welcoming and fun... She definitely made the vibe of our stay great right from the start. The room was different and fun and the heated pool was epic! We went swimming on New Years Eve... who would have thought! The fries were good and the overall energy in the main lobby was fantastic. We had some time to kill before heading to the airport and luckily for us, there were a ton of things to do at Moxy between pool and the arcade games we were set. I just checked out and really liked the design/layout of this hotel. It's super vibey and has good energy. It's definitely busy eve/night in the lobby bar area so if you're not looking for an upbeat spot where people are drinking and enjoying life this is not the place for you. If you're into being social and fun games you'll really like it here. Most the food is really good I had a quesadilla which was excellent and the salad was yummy, the queso dip trio kind of tasted frozen prior or out of a jar not that great. It's super dog friendly which is always the best. The room was cute and comfortable I had a balcony room. My only complaints are the TV only has a few channels so unless you actually have a Netflix password there's not very many channels besides the news and the walls are so thin you can hear people talking on the phones. I slept through the night the first night (wed) and Thursday it was really loud at the pool and being an early sleeper it was a bit much with the screaming but eventually fell asleep. Also Hotels.com kept telling me my check out was at 12 and it says check out is 12 in the room but they told me check out was 11 so they need to update that part... You get a free drink when you check in and for each night you stay and everybody who worked here was pretty nice. read more

Loyal Marriott Gold Member here (I stay 30+ nights a year). However, tonight I was verbally assaulted and threatened by the Moxy Tempe front desk staff at 12:30am for requesting Foam Pillows. (Yes, you unfortunately read that correctly.) She went as far as threatening to call the police, and have 2 Marriott loyalty members removed from the premises for trespassing. I am still in shock. Words cannot describe my violation of trust in the Marriott brand by this employee. Needless to say I will never be staying at a Moxy Hotel brand ever again in the future. Avoid this property. As the flagship location, Moxy Phoenix Tempe/ASU is arguably as fun and welcoming as the San Diego location (read about it here). After a warm greeting with a cold cocktail (a signature move for the Moxy brand known as a Moxytail), we began the Moxy experience once more. location: Walking distance from Arizona State University, and less than 10 minutes away from the bustling Mills Avenue District, you're close to shopping, breweries and great food. For lunch, I recommend tacos from El Paisano Market. For casual dinner or drinks, head on over to the Pedal Haus (7 minutes away). Want to grab a drink and dance? Scottsdale is always a good place to party with plenty of options within a few block radius to hop around. vibe: The staff is young, friendly, and always willing to offer a recommendation for something to do in the area. Daytime is calm and welcoming, while nighttime is lively and exciting. The bartenders double as check-in staff so don't be the one that asks where to check in, while standing at the bar beneath a large neon sign that reads "CHECK-IN". The entire ambiance of the hotel feels like a weekend at college with no mid-terms to study for. Relaxed days and fun-filled nights define the Moxy brand's Phoenix location. rooms: The rooms are around 300 square feet, and MUCH larger than those at the San Diego location. No closets, but plenty of pegs to display your outfits and hang your bag. A record player is provided in some rooms for your entertainment, and an acoustic guitar in EVERY room, so jam out! Pro-tip: Like a quieter room? The odd numbers face away from the noise while the even numbers overlook the pool. Many have commented about an odd smell from the A/C units but the times we've stayed, we didn't have any issues. amenities: The pool area is fun, with a mural for group photos (or IG worthy selfies), and plenty of seating. Pool noodles and floaties line a large pool for your enjoyment, and cabanas offer shade from the desert sun. Table tennis and corn hole are available for making new friends, or hanging out with old ones. The bicycles by the front desk are available for rent during the day, just ask the Moxy crew for the keys (shout out to Caleb for the info!). A fitness center is on the 4th floor. The equipment is minimal, so gym-rats, prepare to be disappointed and let this be a pool day instead! Check-in, as always with the Moxy brand, is at the bar. A complimentary drink is provided with your stay. final thoughts: If you're visiting ASU, this is the place to stay. If you're the type who needs daily cleaning, or coffee in your room, this hotel is not for you. If you need a quiet place to work, this is also not the place. But if you're in the Tempe area to have fun, meet new friends and make memories, then this is where it's at. Note: They sent for an Uber to pick us up and drop us off from the airport (free of charge!), and anytime we don't have to dish out extra after a long flight, is a plus! This is my go-to hotel when visiting the Tempe/Phoenix area! As someone who predominantly runs around Tempe while visiting (and as someone who graduated from ASU), staying here is the PERFECT location. It's walking distance to tons of restaurants and bars, campus, the stadiums, etc.. Not to mention that Tempe is growing so much that by the next time you're visiting, there'll be even more places to go to! The vibe is so fun, especially in the warm months! It's always lively on the weekend nights and the staff is great. The bar downstairs really is the center of the hotel and it provides excellent cocktails, food, free water, etc... Is the room a luxury 5 star room? No. But that's not what the Moxy is for. The room is nice, stylish, and a comfy place to sleep for a few nights. If you're looking for luxury, you can go pay $$$ elsewhere but the Moxy is fantastic for what it's supposed to be! And the shower is a 10/10 regardless! read more

The housekeeping team rocks! Thus is the cleanest I ever seen this hotel. The general manager does a stand up meeting each meeting with his team I've observed, first I've ever seen at a Marriott. Kudos to him! I've stayed the past few weeks and have enjoyed my Wednesday evenings in the lobby. They have a golf putting green, and corn he games. I even get to win points! I stayed here for one night since we were in town 1 day earlier than everyone else we were staying with for a wedding we were in the area for. I loved that this hotel was centrally located so it was very easy to get to where we were needing. We were a tad confused as first when walking in as we didn't see a reception desk since its basically at the bar but luckily the staff working quickly greeted us to get us checked in. They quickly got us checked in and offered us a complimentary drink at check-in which we came back down for after getting settled. They have free arcade games, and a pool table which is fun to play. I was a big fan of unlimited plays on pinball! The rooms were really nice I loved the hardwood floors it was a nice touch compared to the usual carpet you find at hotels. It definitely gave a more modern and clean feel. I thought the overall decor was nice and very inviting and comfortable. When we inquired about a late checkout they were quick to offer us a checkout as late as 2pm. This was perfect as we were waiting for others flights to get in before checking into the house we were renting for the week. The only complaint I had was that when we first went up to the floor where we were staying it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. I am assuming people were smoking off their balcony which they shouldn't have so I don't blame that on the hotel. Overall we enjoyed our experience and would love to stay here again or at another MOXY location. Plus doesn't hurt that we still earned Marriott points since we are Marriott reward members. read more

I stayed at this hotel 5.28.21. Outside of the bed (which was comfortable), my stay was not great. The TV remote didn't have batteries so the TV was left on all day and night as there was no way to turn it off (bolted to the wall). There were teens/college kids running through the halls screaming and yelling until 3am and the hotel employees didn't do anything to stop it. I didn't get a lick of sleep. Lastly....parking was $12 and the parking lot says they are not responsible for theft etc. Of course when I pulled around the back of the hotel to park, I saw a space with shattered glass in a pile. Luckily nothing happened to my car but how do you charge for parking and not provide security to take ownership for theft that occurs in your lot? Stay here at your own risk but there's a lot of better options than to risk staying here. read more

Pros: Cute decor, friendly staff, good location (close to ASU campus) Cons: Lots of broken fixtures-- outlets, irons, etc., Complete lack of functionality-- Dimly lit/no lighting in the rooms besides natural light from window, no closet or dresser, etc., Not well kept... It looks like all the cleaning people do in between different customers is make the bed (hopefully change the bed sheets) and replace towels. The floor is tile or some type of laminate flooring and it would be very easy for staff to either sweep or vacuum. It was very clear that there was absolutely none of either before we checked in. The floor was dirty, looked like crumbs and food. Frankly, it was just gross. It did not look or feel clean and during the pandemic, cleaning thoroughly is more important than ever. Overall, this place is fine if you're just looking to go out and go to bars and just need a place to crash before checking out at noon. Otherwise, it's not well thought out or well kept. Look else where if you're looking to be close to ASU tempe.. Perhaps the Hyatt. read more

If you're just here to find out if this place is safe & clean and quiet-- I will say-"ish". Some of the design features get in the way of cleaning-- so you can expect accumulated dust on the fancy light fixtures and I did find a few hairs in the sink in an area that wasn't visible from where I think a cleaner would be standing. You may want to know that rooms have no closets (a peg board w/ some hangers stands-in) & amenities like ironing boards & microwaves are in a common area on each floor. But, I would not warn someone away for those reasons. Quiet? Well, stay away from room 308, which is right under the well-utilized gym and the hotel is right on two very busy roads which you can definitely hear through the sound proofing. Rooms on the back side of the hotel might be quieter. There are a few restaurants and things in the area and it's easy to get into Scottsdale, to the airport, or to further flung destinations from here. This hotel is not for everyone. Is "everyone" me? To be honest-- I am undecided. Overall, I like the concept (with one notable exception I'll address later). I found myself utilizing the lobby throughout my stay. There are quite a few games for your enjoyment (pool, fuse ball, giant jenga/connect 4, pin ball, etc) but also an abundance of comfy couches and work areas spread out in such a way you can always find a nook or cranny that will work for you. They really nailed this aspect of the design. They also host fun-sounding events each day-- although I was never at the hotel when these happened so I can't comment. The pool looks relaxing but I never quite made it there (and never saw anyone else in it either). Oh, one more weird thing--there is a floor-to-ceiling photo of a woman's face pasted on one wall of my room--which is weird & creepy in a hotel room. I asked if this was design feature in each room and was told it was. In speaking to other hotel guests, it seems the front desk lied to me & just did not want to offer me a different room. read more

This is the second Moxy I have stayed at and both have been wonderfully. The laid back vibe is a welcome change. The check-in at the bar doesn't bother me and the free drink is nice. The rooms in Tempe are huge compared to the San Diego Moxy. The location is perfect for visiting ASU or local businesses. If you're not there for that I'm not sure why you're in Tempe. The lobby is welcoming and the staff very friendly. I was able to hang out, get work done and enjoy a beverage each evening of my stay. What's stopping it from getting 5/5? First, the beer selection on tap sucks. Get a decent IPA please. Scrap Pabst. It Might be cool for hipsters, but it really sucks and nobody wants it. Second, stick to your schedules. The elevators are full of signs for acoustic Wednesday and Kareoke Thursday. Neither happened. Don't advertise what is not happening. read more

I definitely recommend this hotel when staying in the Phoenix area. Great lifestyle with great styling and amenities. I loved the design and feel of the hotel. Rooms were modern, comfortable, and had great features. Really liked the styling of lobby at check in, as well as the bar. Pool was nicely placed in the courtyard and is 8ft deep for real swimming experience. Only Issue is that pool opens at 7am and might be some rowdy swimmers or children in the pool that early. Bedding was nice and comfortable, bathroom was nicely laid out, tv allowed you to stream Netflix and such. Great soaps for our use and I loved the balcony of the upgraded room they placed me in due to it being my birthday. The fitness room has some great features and top notch equipment. The space isn't that big, but they outfitted it perfectly for high quality workouts. I was very much impressed with this hotel and I wi be back. Hotel is right across the street from ASU campus. I'm sure it can get rowdy during games and school activities. read more

Definitely a unique hotel, unlike any other hotel I've stayed at. I like that they are trying to incorporate a different style than than the typical cookie cutter hotels. The pool table, foosball, and pinball machines in the lobby are a nice touch as are the records and acoustic guitars on the walls. Those were the pros. The cons were that our room was missing a few basic necessities like trash cans, extra toilet paper roll, and blankets. I don't know how to explain my feelings towards this hotel so my review may read weird lol I'd describe it as industrial modern. The best part would be lounge/game area, free games large open area, pool table, bar (aka also check in desk) The game area is the only family friendly area. You will find half naked ppl randomly on the walls/hallway or on do not disturb sign. So our first room, was a good location main floor, close to exit. But smelled like toilet water as soon as we walked in. As other have said, There are no dressers or closets. Only these pegs along the main wall to hang things. They have a luggage holder but should provide 2 of those for each room. The room looked cool and different, but not functional for a family. Only one trash bin in the bathroom, none in the room. No plastic bags in it. Stand up shower, with rain shower head but also had a removable shower head. But our first room didn't have a caddy to hold out shower items. They do provide a good size shampoo/soap/conditioner but most people bring something else and of have to leave it on the toilet. So the next morning, I wake up to a cockroach in my bathroom. Between that and the smell, we mentioned it to front desk and they were super nice and helpful. They changed us rooms in a couple hours bc it was right before check out time for guest who are leaving. I hated that we had to move bc we were "settled" in to our already. New room, looked a tiny bit smaller but it came with a balcony so that's fine. This one had a caddy in the shower. The phone was broken, looked like it was ripped out of the wall outlet. So when we needed to call front desk bc our toilet got plugged, we had to find the number online and call. 1 star for creativity on theme of hotel 1 star for staff - they were great 1 star for gaming area Pretty much not super family friendly rooms. read more

Staff on the shift that leaves at 11pm and midnight were amazing!!! (I believe their names were Nick & Aamil) Such fun people to serve us drinks at the bar. Very professional and very 'chill'. (The gal who came on at midnight was very rude but I won't assume she is an example of most of the staff). Bed was comfy and room was tidy. Terrible customer service! Apparently they do not train their associates..... They were suppose to charge a different credit card and assured it would take place... it did not... then called after leaving because five deep with one person taking twenty minutes... Called and took ten minutes to answer and then put me hold after I explained the issue... never came back to phone..finally another person heard the phone as they were walking by and answered... told me I had to talk to manager and call back tomorrow. I had high hopes; as the concept is quite a twist from a traditional hotel. I gave it one star because it has a ton of character. But even character isn't enough, when the good-idea fairy decided to take over the planning meeting, when corporate designed this place. We stayed in a Double Queen Room, #343, in January, 2019. Location is pretty good, and there plenty of options around to keep you busy, for those who enjoy a college town atmosphere. We are not one of those couples. No closets. Or drawers. Yes you are reading that correctly. They also have hooks along the broadside wall in the room for hanging various items. The idea is a good one, but functionality is poor. Everything is out in the open and you can't store any luggage, shoes, jackets or other items, out of sight. Then they decided, to mount a TV along that wall, which eliminates 7 hooks. Beds were actually comfortable (and quiet) so that was a welcome reprieve. However, the walls are so thin that you can hear others in adjacent rooms. I'm a very light sleeper, and use earplugs to compensate. Alas, we lost a night's sleep due to a guest who decided to play music at 230am. Wasn't bad music, but the fact that it took the on duty associate 3 trips, over an hours time, to get the guest to comply, was frustrating... But again, if the walls were better built, I doubt it would be a problem. The rooms are not very bright so, not having a bright light near the full length mirror seems like it was a detail that could have easily been addressed. There are plenty of retro features that add ambiance, but they fall way short of acceptable functionality. There are no fridges or microwaves in the rooms. We had to ask for one at check in (free), but again, who the heck leaves out a small fridge??? Bathroom is, well. Dumb. A rolling style barn door, that DOES NOT LOCK? So much for any expectations of privacy. What kind of designer thought it was a good idea to leave the locks off the bathroom doors? Couple that with the fact that the door doesn't close tightly, suggests that anyone entering the room, gets a free peeping Tom style view of your bathroom habits. Also, perhaps exclusive to my room, but the fan was worthless; and for women who need an area to get prepared for an evening out, well, a room full of steam makes that an impossible task. You might say, 'HEY, just get ready out in the room', and normally you'd be right, but with the lack of proper lighting, it's an exercise in futility. I live in MN and like my room at 65-66, the temp gauge only goes to 69. Somehow I feel like that was an intentionally bad joke. When you are here, you will understand what I mean. Tried to ask for 1 extra blanket, but they store them in a community Ironing room. Yes. Community Ironing room. We had to visit all 4 floors, only to find out.... NONE AVAILABLE. Imagine that. After all this, don't walk through the room without shoes. I don't know who manages the cleaning of the floors, but since they are not carpeted, I would guess that no one here knows what a mop is. Floors look nice, but that luster is lost on the grime that washes from your feet later on. There is one single garbage can in the room. It's in the bathroom. God forbid I wanted to throw any items away. They couldn't give one extra in the room itself? Also, consider cleaning behind the chair in the room. Last thing I want to see is the remnants of previous guests. I was in town for a baseball tournament and this was one of the hotels the tournament had a special rate with. Alas, this will be the last time I stay at The Moxy. I travel about 12-15 times per year, and would rank this hotel right up there with staying in an airport lounge, over night. But at least with an airport they have higher standards of cleanliness. read more

I've stayed at quite a few Marriott properties, as I have achieved the "Platinum-for-Life" level in their rewards program. But the Moxy brand is completely new to me, so when it popped up as an inexpensive one-night option in the Phoenix valley, I took it. Probably targeting the "hipster" generation, it felt a bit like an Aloft hotel. There's a bar in the lobby where you're greeted with a check-in drink or draft beer. There are arcade games, board games, a foosball table and a couple of computers for use. They even have bicycles available to be borrowed. It's completely different to the usual Courtyard and SpringHill properties. And that's just the lobby. The room was also unique. With a guitar on the wall, a turntable on the desk (with two LP's) and a pull shade on the door to the room for privacy, it's similarly different. Platform bed, work desk with power outlets and my king bed room also had a pull out sofa. Decorated in accents that would best be called "unprofessional" for the business traveler but perfectly acceptable in this hotel format. I don't know where else Marriott has their Moxy brand, but I'll be on the lookout for it. read more

BE AWARE and STAY AWAY. This is my first-ever Yelp review. I always try to be nice at hotels, even if things are not perfect. I understand that people just work there trying to do their jobs, and I respect that. However, my experience at this Moxy was just horrible. You'll have to deal with cockroaches every night, a cleaning team that may steal from you, and a terrible front desk that threatens you. Other comments about the bugs are true. I had to deal with different giant cockroaches every night. When I told this to the girl at the front desk, she just asked, "You are not from here, are you?" Throughout those days, they were not able to change a room for me. The only thing I got was a $10 food and beverage coupon. Every night, I tried to go to the front desk and explain the situation, but no one was even there. What's more, I did not get a single room service during all the nights I stayed, even after I asked for it. Before checking out, I accidentally left a $900 Chrome Hearts hoodie and called about it. The people didn't seem to care or bother to check. I even went back to the hotel twice to confront them. The first time, there was only one girl working at the front desk. She said she would check when her colleague was there to cover the front desk, which is understandable. I waited there for almost an hour. Her colleague was there from time to time, and none of them seemed to bother with my situation. The second time I came back, this African American dude with a gold chain helped me. He was being cool about it at first, even leaving the front desk to check. I waited for half an hour, only to find out he was back at the front desk again, minding his own business and not even bothering to tell me what was going on. I confronted him again, and he pretended he couldn't hear me. At this point, my fiancé was unhappy, and she explained everything to him again. He called her "aggressive" and "rude" and said we needed to leave immediately. I was being really polite with all the problems. I didn't fight for it when they couldn't change or clean my room. I basically accommodated my needs for theirs. But after the hoodie situation, I just couldn't take it anymore. I feel like an imbecile going to the front desk over and over again. In short, I felt disgusted by the bugs, and I felt threatened by the African American guy at the front desk. Save your money and stay away. It's not worth it. p.s. A lot of things in my room were broken. The ac was out of battery, the lamp light by the bed was broken, and the toilet paper holder was about to fall... read more

This is a boutique style hotel by a main line hotel (Marriott) and from first glance, they seemed to have hit their target market nicely. This is clearly aimed at millennials and caters to how they live and interact. First, the check in is at a bar, and they offer you a free house drink when you arrive. The lobby has free games, pool, pinball etc and lots of communal areas. The decor is quite neat and the elevator is set up to take selfies- interesting. The rooms items are very comfortable and tastefully decorated. There is an actual working guitar and record player in the room. My room has vinyl from Miles Davis and James Brown, which is really neat. As a business traveler, I look for a couple of things: comfortable bed, work space, ironing board and hangars. The bed is great, the room is clean and a good work space. They have removed the ironing board and made a communal ironing room- not for my taste. There isn't a closet or dresser, instead you are given pegs on a wall with a couple of hangars. Lastly, they use community soap, meaning one big bottle that stays between stays versus mini bottles. I person alt hate this in the shower unless I know they have been sanitized- and these do not show that. The room doesn't have a clock and the TV has about 5 channels, but it appears you can stream to the TV from your device. The lighting is nice and adequate and the bathroom is above expectations.
