I really liked this place. Stopped by in the late afternoon and found the cases about half empty. This was to be expected so no issue there. We went to the Riverside location on separate occasions for both coffee and pastries. The coffee is not good. Not much to say beyond that. To be fair, this is a bakery, not a coffee shop, so no real ding on them on that front. The pastries are OK. Honestly, nothing to write home about. My issue with the place was service and atmosphere. The place is sterile. It smells like a doctors office, not a baker. It's cold. Not inviting. You don't want to spend time here, and maybe that's the goal. Get your crap coffee, your mid slice of cheese cake and move along. And to be honest, that last bit tracks real well with the service. I've never seen a staff that so obviously hate their jobs as the cashiers at Mr. Baker's Riverside location. I say "cashiers" because they're definitely not barristas, given the garbage coffee, and they're not bakers, given that all the pastries are pre made, pre packaged and out on display and there's not an ounce of the pleasant smell you'd expect from a bakery. Honestly, I had to bounce over to my local Jimmy John's because I yearned for the smell of fresh baked anything after leaving the polished concrete and hospital white halogen lights of Mr. Baker. You'd think that with a relatively new store, you'd have fresh staff, invigorated and ready to go. That's not the case here. The staff treats you like you're an annoyance, like you're interrupting their busy day of not baking. We asked for a couple of paper plates for our pastries (we ordered 4 slices of different items) and the cashier, irritatingly handed us one, and gave us a look as if we're lucky we were getting that. The thing is, Riverside is saturated with great coffee shops. Toasted, Condron, Arcade - with great newcomers (I'm looking at you you delicious Cuban SoB's) popping up every year. If you want our sweet sweet coffee/pastry money, you have to do a lot better than hospital-esque atmosphere and service with a passive aggressive frown. read more

I came here last year for my son's cake which we loved, it was so soft and moist. So naturally we ordered a custom cake for a party the other day of the same flavor of our son's cake last year . It was a nightmare cutting this cake , it all crumbled it was so dry . The frosting inside between the bread was thick and hard. But unfortunately this is what we had to feed our guest. Work on customer service. I had a very disappointing experience with Mr. Baker while trying to order a custom cake for my daughter's birthday. When I initially placed the order, I was told that I needed to pay one week before the pickup date. I attempted to call the bakery multiple times on Sunday, which was the cutoff day for payment, but no one answered the phone. I followed up on Monday, and suddenly I was told that the cutoff was Sunday and that I should have paid by then. I explained that I had tried calling the day before and even offered to provide timestamped screenshots of my call log showing my attempts. After sending the screenshot, they asked for additional screenshots showing multiple calls, which felt unnecessary since I had already shown proof of my attempt. During this conversation, Victoria, who handled the situation, was extremely rude and aggressive on the phone. Her tone was unprofessional and dismissive. What made the situation even more confusing was that after reviewing the screenshot, she told me that even if I had provided proof earlier, it would not have made a difference because they were only checking whether their phone system had issues. Yet earlier I was accused of not calling and even told that I had lied After two days of back and forth and a very unpleasant interaction, they ultimately said they would refund the payment because of the situation. Overall, the customer service was very poor, communication was inconsistent, and the interaction felt unnecessarily hostile for what should have been a simple issue. I hope the management improves their communication and professionalism, especially when dealing with customers who are simply trying to resolve a problem.Dont ever talk to Victoria, she's angry and rude. read more

The strawberry croissant is delicious. I couldn't put it down after the first bite. I enjoyed it so much that I came back for more. They had so many in stock in the afternoon. I'm glad because I heard that they usually sell out. They sell coffee and other baked goods too that I might try next time I come. This was my first time ordering a cake. I bought individual slices so we could all sample instead of 1 cake. Out of 5 slices there was really only 1 that had any flavor which was the carrot raisin. I paid $58 for the 4 items mentioned and the cake is okay - personally would have enjoyed a tuxedo cake from Costco or Staters more. We ordered about seven different pastries so we could try them. The crème brûlée had no resemblance to a custard. Most things we ordered, had absolutely no flavor. They were dry. The cupcake had holes in it, and there was more frosting on the top of the cupcake, then cupcake. There may be some sort of stabilizer in their whip toppings that makes them funky. The girl who took our order was also very friendly and helpful. The chocolate croissant was alright, but didn't have a lot of filling. The big disappointment were the 2 almond croissants. We were there at 10AM but they tasted old, very hard and when you bit into them, they would just crumble to dust, also hardly any noticeable almond filling.
