I went crazy, my order was sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, egg drop soup, and finally steamed dumplings. My litmus test for good take out Chinese food...do not have orange fried rice. You know what I'm talking about. It's literally the color of the sun, that is not right. Mr chen's fried rice was perfect. Cooked to perfection. Egg drop soup was good as well. Great price for an impressive amount of food, we had 2 lunch meals, 2 large soups, and 10 cheese wontons, $30. All of it was amazing and the speed of takeout was great. We tried the sweet and sour chicken, (a little too sweet for me) the chicken and broccoli (delicious!) and the cheese wontons were very good. I have always enjoyed the food from Mr. Chen's. Unfortunately, this is the second time that I have ordered egg foo young for take away and have received it without the meat and vegetables that typically accompany the dish. I always really liked the dish in the past when I ordered it here. But these past two orders have truly disappointed! They are quick and reasonably priced, so I'm sure I'll be back, I just won't order the egg foo young again. On a side note, it seems they still haven't gone back to offering dine in service, as evidenced by removal of the tables and chairs that used to be arrayed in the dining area. It was the first we've been there. We've been looking for good Chinese food in town. Went there and took out last night. What a mistake! My husband got the sweet and sour pork. The pork was dry and the breading was hard. It seemed that it was old, pulled out of a refrigerator and heated somewhat but not hot. The fried rice tasted like minute rice, not authentic rice. Very disappointing. This was our first time here. We ordered egg rolls, won ton soup, egg drop soup, pork chow mein and the happy family. The won ton soup was in a brown tasteless broth and the noodles were undercooked. The egg rolls were nothing but cabbage with no flavor and the entrees were pretty bad. There was a lot of meat and veggies but no flavor. On the bright side the egg drop soup was very good. They had no hot mustard either. A family owned and operated restaurant with high standards of service, including the food always served hot and delicious, fresh ingredients, and they have the preparation time down to a science. Mongolian beef was a miss; Finding a good Mongolian beef place is like finding a four leaf clover; it really happens. Mongolian beef is more than just pepper steak and onions but unfortunately that's how most Chinese takeouts treats this great dish. The orange chicken was fine; not great/not bad. Others were steaming hot. They were in the sauce at the bottom. The majority of them were hard, dark and tough to chew. As if they were heated in a microwave or fried wayyy too long. I'm sure there were about 2 pieces of fresh chicken mixed in with a lot of old chicken. I ate 5 pieces before i gave up. Waste of money. Tasty food. Well prepared and flavorful. Seasoning is just right. Generous servings. (Prices are higher than I expected but food prices have been on the rise everywhere). A couple of observations however: The Moo Shu Pork does not include pancakes, at least my order didn't, but the menu states that Moo Shu Chicken does. I found this rather odd. Also, every other Chinese food carryout restaurant I have patronized over the years either put packages of soy and duck sauces in the bag for you or ask you if you would like any. I do not understand why Mr. Chen offers neither. (Yes, I know, I should have asked). Despite these shortcomings, we enjoyed the Moo Shu Pork (over white rice), the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and the Vegetable Lo Mein (excellent). A good place for takeout. This is a solid restaurant. The General Tso's chicken was actually crispy and covered in sauce. I've almost never had General Tso's chicken that was prepared so well, and the sauce was great, although not as spicy as I would prefer. I called my order in at about 8:30 PM and I showed up at 8:50. The food was hot and ready and I probably wasn't out of the car for 5 minutes before getting back in. The setup due to covid is very effective and ingenious. Mr. Chen's WAS the preferred Chinese restaurant to go to. It's getting worse and worse as time passes. They are skimping on the ingredients added to fried rice, the spring rolls are now all wrapper, hardly any filling, and the fried chicken wings have no flavor. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun is my go to, I'd never heard of it before, but it's a great dish, I'd highly recommend. I also frequent the various options on their sushi menu. The House Special Lo Mein is my roommates go to, with a side of Egg Rolls. The two of us can have a great feast with left overs for under 17 bucks!
