Me & the husband love Mr. D's and travel 30ish miles to eat here. I'm a creature of habit and usually order simple breakfasts or their chicken fettuccine after which is really good. We've also been to their other location in Placentia and everything between the two locations are the same. Friendly workers, family friendly vibes, and food comes pretty quickly even when busy. Recent trip we noticed they changed to new menu's and added a couple new dishes. I decided to try the Charbroiled chicken dinner. It's a half chicken in their own spices with two sides, I chose corn and their greek lemon butter rice. Sad to report that the chicken was cooked well and juicy, but I couldn't taste a thing regarding flavor and the rice didn't taste anything of lemon. Regardless, we'll still be back! read more

We happened upon Mr D's in La Verne while looking for a place to enjoy Sunday brunch--so pleased to find this diner with great service, fun 50s ambience, and large portions (needed a takeout box). Plentiful parking and indoor/outdoor seating! We sat outside and thanks to lots of trees and plants surrounding the covered patio, you could almost imagine not being at a corner of several busy streets. We ordered the Mr D's favorite omelette, the turkey bacon avocado melt, and the grilled salmon salad. My turkey melt had all the best ingredients: crisp bacon, perfectly grilled sourdough--but was a bit dry so I added some Italian dressing from my daughter's salad. The tater tots on the side were perfectly crisp and not greasy. Overall a great experience and cool enough to really enjoy sitting outside (the covered patio has ceiling fans and space heaters too btw). read more

My family and I went to Mr. D's Diner tonight for dinner, and like always, the food and service were simply wonderful! The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, and the food is always so good (and affordable)! Moreover, our night was made even better thanks greatly to our server, Estebán. He was so thoughtful and attentive to us throughout the entirety of our meal. He was especially so to my grandmother, who was having a hard time walking to the door at the end of evening ( upon noticing this, he kindly walked over to it and held it for her). Had the best dinner of Chicken Marsala. The potatoes and grilled vegetables were also a treat, with the sauce mingling with them also. The sauce had walnuts and this was so savory. Nice outside, clean inside, friendly staff for those of you who are unaware of this is an old Denny's location. Don't be confused thinking this is the same Denny's food, it is a fantastic menu with tons of options, and all that I have tried happened to precious. staff is very friendly and helpful and so kind to kids. I have plenty of parking it is located right off the freeway so if you are stuck in traffic definitely get off at foothill Boulevard grab a yummy meal while you wait the traffic out. read more

This is a very old school diner. We stumbled across this place after attending a meeting nearby and it is exactly what you would expect in terms of quality of food for this type of diner. When we arrived on a Thursday evening, it was pretty crowded and the clientele was definitely on the older side, but I assume it's because they know a good deal when they see it. Also, it seems they have some killer senior specials going on. We ordered the Chicken Marsala, which was the Thursday night dinner special and also a Cowboy Burger. Both were huge and easily gave each of us a second meal the next day. I also preferred the Chicken Marsala, but the burger was good as well. My son got the kids burger and fries, which wasn't big, but it wasn't small either. Although the prices weren't cheap, they do offer a $15 coupon off two entrees, which makes the meal much more worthwhile. In all honesty, if not for the coupon, I'm not sure if this place can justify their high prices, but with the coupon, it's definitely worth it since the food is good and they give you a lot. Also, service was very good overall, although the food did take a while to come out. If we're in the area, we would definitely come again. read more

Listen to other reviews and yes, it is tempting to go there while your car is charging at the new Tesla Chargers but believe me you will not like the food or service !! Your car will probably be way past 80% charged and they will barely take your order. I think the business runs on phone and pickups so really don't care about dine in customers. Mr D's makes dreams come true!! We were to have a small post wedding dinner at a local eatery that canceled on us at 6pm the night before. We ended up having an impromptu rehearsal dinner at Mr. D's, that was our first time eating there and it was absolutely amazing!! The food delicious and even though they were super busy, Eric was beyond attentive to us, a surprise party of 13 people. Once we told Eric and Rachel of our situation they put wheels in motion to create a miracle!!! They allowed us to rent the patio area for 40 people for the next day!!! Rachel, the manager went above and beyond to make our day so special!! She and staff went out and bought decorations and designed an incredible personalized menu for us. The food was sooo good and we were taken care of like royalty. This has now become our local go-to spot. We come here like once a week. read more

Went here while my car was charging at the Tesla charging station and I am so glad I did. Not only did the burgers look amazingly beautiful, but they tasted heavenly. I also got the Nutella stuffed French toast and let me tell you it was one of the best French toast I've ever ate in my life. It's a nice cool diner with amazing food options. I took my friend here this morning cause I went on Sunday and the food was amazing. I got a burger and mozzarella sticks 10/10 and they had a magic show which was cool. I went there this morning for breakfast and I regret it 100% should have went to Kosmos. I had their waffle gourmet style and it was horrible. My friend took a bite of hers and spit it out. I tried hers and mine, both of them tasted sour. We didn't even try to eat it after that nasty bite. Our waiter was amazing though and handled it 10/10. I think her name was Beatrice. My stomach is very upset hours later and that was the only thing I had to eat today. I don't know if they used old waffle batter and it started to ferment, or used expired ingredients but don't get the waffles. read more

This is off of service alone. My husband and I came in this morning and sat in the patio area. Our order was taken and our server brought out our drink order which wasn't complete and had to get another server to bring out the rest of our drinks. And then she dropped our food order which was complete and a host had to bring out the rest of our order. However she was too busy talking to another table. We waited and waited and waited for the bill, which never came. I went to the front to pay and I told them I never got the bill and she gave it to him on the side and walked off. I paid and left. WORST SERVICE! She wasn't slammed, she was too busy talking to one table. She was no absolute NO hurry to get to her other 2 tables in the patio and 2-3 tables inside. Sorry Mr. D's. I was craving some old school diner and this place did not hit the spot. The food took very long to come out, the place was packed but waiting 20 mins for my food was not ideal. The biscuit with gravy was tasteless and the hash brown were okay... My wife did not enjoy her chicken fried steak as it had no flavor and did not taste good. The loaded tater totes should not have gotten as it was just cover in sauce and bacon bits; it just me feel blah eating it. Overall the food is mediocre and the food is over price for what you get. Came again soon after and was seated next to a door that cold air made it uncomfortable, Arrived at 1pm without my coupon for $10 off an entree because it wasn't good till 3pm. we Ordered right away then waited and waited and waited over 1 hour before waitress came to say our food would be coming & said they only have one cook. but everyone before us and after us ate and were gone so it was a obviously a lie. I was now very cold, upset and wanted to leave but my 2 guest were too hungry to leave. The food finally came like 2:30pm & the food got cold so fast we could not enjoy it. The waitress apologized for taking so long but said it only makes it harder for them as servers. I couldn't believe she was feeling more put out then we were! Then being after 3pm i told them I could have used my coupon since it was now 3:12pm. The cashier only said "sorry". The bottom of my receipt said if your experience was not up to par, please email us, so I did. Twice, but no response! We've been here a couple times and we are happy to have a great diner nearby. We've been pretty lucky to find a spot at the counter every time we've stopped by, so we haven't had to wait. I love the nostalgic feel you get when you step inside Mr. D's diner. It's a fun, 50s style diner with a great menu selection, reasonable prices and great service. We usually come here for breakfast, so I've had a couple of the skillets and my husband sticks to the classic eggs & bacon platters. The food comes out quickly and it's always a generous portion. Since we sit at the counter, our coffee is never empty and they check on us often. We've tried the bloody mary there once and weren't a fan of it. It had too much tobasco for me, but I'm sure others might enjoy it. There is plenty of seating and parking, so it's a good place for a large group. The decor is fun and the service is friendly and attentive. Mr. D's is a nice, casual, local option for breakfast and the menu is huge, so no matter how many people are in your party, everyone will be able to find something to order. Cheers! read more
