Loco Moco
Zan L.

Open since 1978 this is one of the classic, famous diners on former Route 66. The service and prices were great however, the food was just good and given all of the steep competition in terms of other diners in the area I had to give D's a four, but overall we still enjoyed our breakfast. Inside looks as you would expect from the outside in that it is a traditional, 1950s retro diner. I have been going through all the diners in LA County and this was one of my very last ones on the list. It's located in eastern Los Angeles, in La Verne, in a sleepier part of town. There is a large parking lot attached so parking was free and easy. Also, our server was very polite and just like all diners everything that we ordered came out very fast for a fair price. I usually get Eggs Benedict or a Country Fried Steak when I go to a diner, but this visit I wanted to try one of their newly added items: the Loco Moco. It was not the best version that I've had this year, but it was still really good, the burger patty was cooked perfectly, so were the eggs, however, the gravy wasn't as tasty as some others that I've had recently. It was a very large sized portion, so I was quite full after finishing it. The menu does have a lot of other classic dishes on it, which I would try if I stop in again in the future. I would suggest this to anyone in the area, although there are a few other diners close by that I believe edge this one out.

The two pictures were taken on different days, or not oh well. But we came once and got burgers and really really liked them. They were so good and the fries were nice and crispy. We also ordered a milkshake that was great too. We also came for breakfast and it could've been better. I wish we would've gotten more food. I ended up eating all of my food, the omelette with the toast, and then finished off half of my girlfriends pancakes

We loved it! We had their moco loco which has rice a hamburger patty and egg (prepared however you want) it also has gravy and let me tell you it was delicious! We also tried their stuffed French toast with Nutella and fresh strawberries and it it did not disappoint it was also delicious! Our server was really nice 10/10. The place is really cool definitely a spot to come back too :)

We've been coming to Mr D's for over 20 years now. The menu has changed, but the service has not. We always get the same friendly and warm welcome each time. And the food offerings got pared down - which is great because too many choices can be overwhelming - and they retained the most popular menu items. Our food came in record time and was tasty, filling and a good sized portion! We got so much bang for our buck. Mr. D's is always the best bet for a satisfying meal.

Just made another visit to Mr. D's....I usually get a breakfast burrito - today's breakfast burrito was not very good today. The burrito's tortilla was soggy from too much grease and it was very salty.

What a spur of the moment stop and let me tell you I'm SO glad we did!! These were some of the best burgers, service and hospitality we've had in a long time. We will 1000% be back to enjoy more delicious food. On a non food related note... the staff were absolutely amazing. Susan was wonderful, made us laugh and feel like family. If you want amazing food with even more amazing people, you need to come here! See you soon Susan!!!

While the food was great and they put together a really good combination in the country breakfast--country gravy over sausage over biscuits plus two eggs and hash browns--the service I found was slow at times. It's not their fault: they are a pretty busy joint. But still at the end of the meal I was left waiting for another coffee refill and the bill after that when it became clear there wouldn't be time for a refill. And, while the first half engendered good thoughts about how great the place was, the end of the meal I just felt kind of annoyed no one would refill a coffee or take my money without what felt like excessive flagging someone down. Again, I loved the meal and the first half of the meal was perfect service. I just hope my next trip here isn't met with the same level of inattentiveness that colored my experience at the end of the meal.

And then I just mix them up for the last five to eight bites. It's heavenly, combining the best parts of the breakfast into a mash that is more delicious than its individual components. I call it the Grand Finale. And I've done it all across the country in dozens of cities in hundreds of restaurants for decades now. But it takes really good runny and sunny eggs that haven't been overdone or else the ten to twenty minutes of eating everything before the Grand Finale is just going to leave the eggs hard and unusable. It also takes some good meat that not only will be flavorful on their own but also blend well with the mush. And lastly, it takes a good set of hash browns that isn't overly crispy or overly mushy. Roberta's Village Inn has all of that and more. That was one of the best Grand Finales I've had in years. Usually I don't do it with gravy because the country gravy tends to overpower everything else. But the country-fried steak with gravy didn't do that at all. It blended right in with all the other tastes. So too did the eggs remain remarkably running, all the better to be mixed at the end. And, of course, the thin-cut hash browns was plentiful, seasoned (by me), and, mostly importantly, crispy enough on top and bottom, while remaining soft (but not mushy) within. It was the Perfect Storm of a Grand Finale. The service was great. My server took extra care of me, even when I made the mistake of not noticing the food joint was cash only. I took it all in stride. She not only checked on my just frequent enough but was extra helpful in getting me refills, to-go containers, and the check when it was appropriate. The mood and style of the place was classic diner and I dug it. All ever want is a place to chill in with good food, that isn't overly pressured to kick you out for turnover sake. I was about to say it's kind of a small dining room, but when I went to the ATM I saw they have a whole other dining room that must be for when the place starts jumping for the breakfast rush. I'm assuming that's their busiest time judging by how memorable my breakfast plate was tonight. Overall, I already want to come back during breakfast hours and witness the majesty and awesomeness of this food joint when it's fully operation. I'm betting that's really going to be something to see.

The service was HORRIBLE.I tried multiple times to get someone attention to get a coffee refill and was unsuccessful for well over 20 minutes , I didn't receive my toast until I was halfway through my meal and the was after I asked the waitress for it. The wait staff seem to only be friendly to the usual customers. The only part of the meal that we actually enjoyed was the Bacon. Not only was the service bad but behind the counter looks dirt and dusty. This is a spot I will never return to.

The coffee tastes like a clean, bitter, cold brew with a foamy top. (Important: Bring Cash. There's a 4% Cash Discount.) I arrived at Rail Side Cafe (San Dimas) on Thursday (around 12:13PM). Parking is simple but busy. There's a side lot for customers; sign says, "2 Hour Parking." Staff is courteous, no-nonsense, and diligent. Staff worked hard. Staff quickly answered all my questions. My coffee took about three minutes. Good time. As mentioned, I ordered the Nitro Cold Brew ($9 - Large - 24oz). The coffee is very standard. It tastes exactly like any imagined cold brew coffee. Personally, the roast tasted a little burnt, but it's a common, familiar coffee flavor. The strength was weak for a nitro, but the HUGE SIZE and affordability balances it all out. This is a functional, budget drink. On ambiance, Rail Side Cafe (San Dimas) is a HUGE success. There's a lot of utility. The location has a self-serve water station, public internet with no password, stacked high chairs for children, two game corners (ex: Chess, Giant Connect 4, Giant Jenga, Uno Cards, Etc), and about one available electrical outlet. I also appreciated the retro, upbeat music and 1930s movie decor. In addition, Rail Side Cafe (San Dimas) has plenty of seating. There's about four interior tables, but there's also 16 outside patio tables. The location is clean, well-maintained, and well ventilated. Overall, Rail Side Cafe (San Dimas) is a good, local neighborhood spot. It offers affordable choice that are prepared "good enough." I wouldn't drive a long distance for this spot, but it's a decent option if you're already nearby. 4.5 out of 5

The wait staff saw me just sitting there w my menu for more than 20 min. I had to flag over a server in black, she mustve passed my table 7x, and she politely informed me she is not my server, my server is wearing red. Then i had to flag over my hostess and she said she would get my server. Then she came back and said my server is "caught up" and ended up taking my order and serving ke my drink. I realized she was the server that took the order for the table that came 15 min after i was seated :/. Then i asked for my to-go box which she never ended up bringing. They've got indoor and outdoor seating and they seemed a touch understaffed for being a beautiful day. It was also a Tuesday lunchtime so maybe they weren't expecting it to be as busy as it was. We were able to prove the menu before we got seated. And our super friendly server came out and we were able to order right away. They've got a lunch special. That is a small personal pizza with a salad and we each got that. Salads came out first and I had the arugula salad, which was absolutely phenomenal. 10 of 10 would eat this every single day. The arugula was peppery and it was well dressed in a lemon vinaigrette type sauce. I am a fan of just plain lemon on mine, but this was delicious. My husband got a union salad, which is their specialty I guess. It's got colored carrots and some beets and some shallots. I thought the dressing was bland and it certainly needed salt and pepper. We asked for both and didn't get either. Our pieces came out and they were nice and woodfired. I feel like they could've been done just a little bit longer maybe a minute or two. The sauce was a lovely fresh type crushed tomato sauce. The cheese was nice and gooey and did not feel or taste like a package of processed cheese. Pepperonis were greasy, but in a real meat kind of way. I had to dab mine, but my husband just went to town on his. The pickled peppers is a pickled jalapeño. Big chunks of them. They certainly didn't skimp on any of the toppings. They were a little sweet and a little hot. Some of the big chunks were a little too sweet for my liking but overall, it was a nice flavor mix Also from a size standpoint, I thought the salad and pizza were very adequate for lunch at around $20 price point I asked for salt and pepper again as well as a side of ranch. This time we did get the salt and pepper as well as cheese and crushed red pepper. But we didn't get the ranch until we were leaving. The server did apologize and said he thought someone else was bringing it out but I pretty much deducted a star because we asked for a couple different things that never came.
