They usually just take up space on my plate. But THESE potatoes?? On. Point. Crispy on the outside, but cut into cubes big enough that you still got that good potatoey bite, with a soft, creamy inside. THAT is how you get me to eat home potatoes! And of course, I saw Fried Green Tomatoes on the menu, so naturally I had to try them. If I see fried green tomatoes somewhere, I'm ordering them. Period. These were done the traditional Southern way with cornmeal, and they were actually fried really well, but they just didn't quite hit that Southern flavor I'm always looking for. The tomatoes themselves were a little too soft for me, too. I like mine to still have a little firmness and tang left in them. The remoulade sauce, though? Pretty tasty! So while they weren't my favorite fried green tomatoes, they weren't a total miss either. The daughter got the Strawberry Waffle with scrambled eggs, and that waffle came out HUGE and absolutely PILED with strawberries and toppings. She couldn't even finish it! Her scrambled eggs looked beautiful too -- soft, folded, still a little shiny, and definitely not cooked to death. My uncle ordered the Veggie Omelette, which he said was fantastic. It was packed with all kinds of bright, fresh California veggies and had this thick layer of yummy Monterey Jack cheese running through it. He also got grits, and they looked soooo creamy. He mentioned that Stagecoach has been doing a WAY better job with their grits lately and making sure they're cooked down to that creamy perfection they're supposed to have. Because gritty, undercooked grits are a CRIME. His lady friend went with the Small Breakfast Plate -- two eggs over easy, sausage patties, wheat toast, and those AMAZING home potatoes. She said it was exactly enough for her without feeling too heavy. And then there was me... I didn't even finish my whole plate, and I'm tellin' you right now... I NEEDED A NAP AFTERWARD. Stagecoach is definitely one of those old-school breakfast/brunch spots where you come hungry, get a REAL plate of food, and leave full and happy. The portions are generous, the eggs were cooked beautifully across the table, those home potatoes completely converted me for the day, and everybody found something they enjoyed. If you're over on Florin Rd and want a good, filling, no-fuss breakfast or brunch, Stagecoach is absolutely worth stopping in. Just don't schedule anything too strenuous afterward. It arrived as a disappointing 7-inch open-faced omelette. The peppers were barely specks, and the potatoes were virtually nonexistent (something we realized while discussing the dish later). On top of that, the small amount of "chorizo" tasted and looked like plain breakfast sausage. I completely understand that businesses need to turn a profit, pay fair wages, and cover rent in a prime location, but the margin here was too glaring for what was served. I genuinely thought they had served us all vegetarian omelettes on accident, it felt like an incomplete plate. I had never felt taken advantage of like I did when I received my meal, so I had to send it back to the kitchen. I swapped it for the roughly 13-inch pepperoni pizza ($23). For just $4 more, the contrast was very apparent. The pizza was fresh, delicious, well-portioned, and fed three of us (including the guests who kept their omelettes and were still hungry). While the staff resolved my plate graciously, the brunch menu as currently portioned falls short. If management adds proper sides or reworks the portions to match the pricing, it could be a solid brunch destination. Until then, we'll stick strictly to the pizza or maybe try out another one of their menus.
