A pizzeria that's been open since my childhood. It has not renovated since the 90s and has the same look as some of the restaurants you see in Seinfeld. It's a very comfortable and classic look. The times that I stop by are usually past 3pm, so it's not busy when I come by. It has the classic NYC pizza fragrance when you bite into the pizza and is pretty good. The star of the show are their extra garlic loaded knots. But I stopped by in Aug 2024 and they no longer add extra garlic to their knots. Received a burnt pizza! I called the restaurant and told them i will go through Grubhub for the credit. They suggested i just call them for the credit and i didn't feel confident doing that since i always order through Grubhub and not over the phone. They didn't take any of my information anyway. I got the refund on Grubhub and someone I'm assuming was the owner calls us back. He told my husband he wont deliver to us anymore(cursing at that) and is sending a driver to pick it up(which he never did)! Both the pizza and the calzone were burnt and i only asked for a refund for the pizza so that i can order through Grubhub again. I am never disappointed at Mister Phil's when I want a good 'ol slice of pizza. Aside from their pizza, have you tried their baked ziti? I mean, how do you feel about paying $7.50 for a cheesy pasta on a day where you're craving cheese? Yep--You can do no wrong by getting the baked ziti. The only comment I have about them is that I wish they warm up their pizza hotter. It's perfect when you're eating there. Mr. Phil's is a neighborhood standard for me. I've been coming here for pizza and Italian specialties since they opened in 1993 (when I was a kid!) and it has remained the same high quality, unpretentious, straightforward fare since. Their pizza is great - It's your typical neighborhood slice (a bit greasy, but the crust is thin and crisp). Their Italian dishes and pasta are also excellent - Lasagna, Penne a la Vodka, Eggplant alla Parmigiana, etc. The portions are (of course) huge, the prices are extremely reasonable and it's a reliable place for a satisfying bite to eat. There are a variety of specialty pizzas which are also worth trying. There are tables and chairs to sit in and eat (still counter service, of course) and of course it's a great choice for delivery. There is good pizza everywhere in this part of Brooklyn. Mr Phil's is not good pizza. It was a soggy, greasy mess. This place was probably the WORST pizza I have ever had in Brooklyn - such a disappointment. I won't be back. I came in here on Saturday afternoon for a quick slice with my fiance. We were running errands and hadn't eaten since 8am and a slice seemed like a good way to hold us over until dinner. I ordered 2 plain slices and my fiance had a Sicilian and a pepperoni pinwheel. My slice was 3 stars - average...waaaay too oily though. However my fiance's pizza? There was virtually no sauce on the sicilian slice; it tasted like it had been out the entire day. The pinwheel was MICROWAVED (why, when there is a hot pizza oven in the same space, I have no idea!!) and for some reason also had ham in it when we were told it came with only pepperoni and mozzarella. My pizza came with a free fountain soda, but shocker, they were out of cups, so I had to buy a drink. Not worth my money and definitely not worth my business! read more

The Brooklyn accents, the hair...very Bensonhurst. When you walk in, the bright lights, bare walls, save for some old photos and an old-tv that plays whatever sporting event is on, and smell of garlic knots remind you where you are. There's always some sort of deal going on and prices are cheap. Food takes awhile to come out, even when you order ahead, but the thin, crunchy crust is worth the wait. Food comes out piping-hot and slices are substantial. Garlic knots, my personal fave, are heavily doused with garlic and olive oil and are just chewy enough while retaining a sweet softness. Pass on the heroes; I tried the meatball and the chicken parm, and both are soggy and generic with a bland tomato sauce. This is my favorite place to get pizza by the slice in all of Brooklyn. In a neighborhood that seems to change drastically every 5 years, Mr. Phil's hasn't. Perfectly crisp, using the right amount of cheese and sauce to give you the perfect taste. A lot of people have gotten upset with Phil's for skimping on sauce, to which I say: welcome to Brooklyn. A real Brooklyn pizza is about pepperonis, and oregano, and oil. It's about find the equilibrium between succulent and thin&crispy. This is a great Italian eatery owned and operated by the same Italian family as when I was a little kid. The pasta that came with the eggplant rollatini was good. However, the delivery man was BEYOND rude! When he delivered the food he asked me "do you order from here a lot?" I said no it was my 1st time. He replied and said "Oh I thought you were this other customer Joanna G who comes for pickup which is the only reason I didn't cancel your order" I said excuse me? He replied while pointing to the restaurant's address on the receipt stating "you do know you live almost 3 miles away from the restaurant so I was gonna cancel because it's far". I replied and said no I'm not in the business of looking up where a restaurant is located if they're available for delivery on GrubHub. He got an attitude stating that I live very far and he should've just canceled it, handed my food and left. For the record I did tip through GrubHub so he couldn't be mad that he wasn't getting a tip. So it's my fault that THEY elected to deliver to locations within 3 miles and he didn't feel like it? And even if he felt that way, why the heck would you ever tell a customer that? Needless to say I will never spend a penny at this establishment again. However, I'm more aggravated about how these people tried to pull a fast one on me, by charging me to use my credit card, after I ordered almost $40 worth of pizza. I like mister phil's though, it's not the absolute greatest slice you'll ever have, but it's better than most places around here. I just add a little oregano and it's good to go. I discovered this place simply by taking a walk to see, what eat out places are in this area, I must say my discovery took a turn for the best. This restaurant is placed on a high priority when I can get to it, it is clean, affordable, and never looses touch, the pizza staff are friendly and hard working, one states he works 7 a week, and tries to rest a little on Sunday; he deserves it. This place a very in control, I will see it on average 10 more times in March. I would trade any place that has indoor tobacco usage/ out by the door as well in a nearby COMMONS PLAZA for this one. Never again. The delivery instructions were to call when outside, because we live upstairs and can't hear when you knock on the door downstairs. The delivery driver banged on the door so hard it scared my elderly mother who was sitting in the living room. My total was $19 and change. I handed him one twenty and before I could ask for change for another he walked away angrily. I got upstairs and realized they forgot my can of soda. I am a big pizza lover. I've eaten pizza from establishments all over the New York area, especially Brooklyn and Manhattan. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, compares to Mister Phil's Pizza. It is always super fresh and never soggy. It is obvious that they use high quality ingredients. Its most outstanding feature is the cheese. I've never tried anything else other than their pizza or their chicken roll so I can't really rate the whole store on it. The pizza doesn't have enough sauce and they go cheap on the cheese. Their chicken roll is very dry and also lacks sauce, and I also almost broke a tooth one day from biting into it and finding a bone. I think that experienced turned me off from this place, but if you are looking for a place for pizza I'd suggest looking some place else. read more
