I must say Rooftops are my Kryptonite. Went with the girl on a date on a Saturday at ~3pm. Mr. Purple is the rooftop bar of Hotel Indigo. Was pretty packed today for some weird reason. Views of both Midtown Manhattan and Downtown Manhattan (FiDi) were breathtaking!!! - definitely worth checking out! AMBIANCE: Classy hands down. Music was quite loud indoors but it gets quieter if you do sit outside. Crowd was on the less dressy side compared to other rooftops such as the Skylark or Westlight. They had a live DJ playing which is always nice. PROS: I got the pomegranate whiskey sour - You can definitely taste the pomegranate juice which made it very fresh and citrusy. The whiskey which they used Maker's Mark (I think - correct me if I am wrong) paired really well with the fruitiness of the pomegranate making it go down very smoothly. Orange zest is always a plus. She got the Matcha Much - It's not my most favorite drink, but I don't dislike it either. It has a weird combination of almond milk with matcha powder and egg whites on top. If you like that I guess it could be a plus? Definitely Mr. Purple caters to a younger crowd as we saw lots of people around their 20s and 30s today. Music was a bit techno and electronic, which makes it a pretty decent date spot IMO. CONS: Matcha Much - she wasn't a huge fan of it as well - the texture of the egg white coupled with the taste with the matcha powder could be a little off putting and weird. I guess this is more of an acquired taste so it could be different case by case. On paper it sounded very weird so we opted for it. Bartenders was slow in service - so expect to be waiting quite a bit (~10 minutes) for your drinks. There were three bartenders working today despite having a huge crowd - definitely could have used a fourth or fifth bartender to help out to expedite their drink making process. OVERALL: Great ambiance and incredible views! Recommend coming at night when the entire bar literally becomes purple in hue - great spot to take a date or to hang out with friends if you're around the area! read more

Sunday Funday ‼ Came here on this past Sunday 12/6 for a friends birthday around 1 PM. It's a very large establishment with A M A Z I N G Views. Upon arrival our temps were took and we were seated immediately. If you want to go when there is less of a crowd this seemed like a great time, as when we left around 5 they were definitely more busy. There's plenty of space indoor and outdoor to be socially distanced. We were a group of 7 and ordered a bunch of plates and drinks, everything was delicious. The server and bartender were on top of things. I highly recommend the spicy margarita or the killer bee(I had mine with a gin base instead, so good!). On top of the spectacular views on the outer exterior, they also have a large igloo that is extremely cozy inside. I would highly recommend this place to a friend, great spot for tourists as well! read more

I've been to Mr. Purple plenty of times. The outside seating area near the pool is very pleasant. This rooftop has my favorite summer drink -- the mint refresher (I forget the actual name of it). The price is doable, as it's the same as any rooftop. However, they lose a star due to staff. One incident in particular had occurred when my party (12 people) and I were sitting at a table and we had a waitress serve us. I had a drink and my friend bumped into the table and it slipped off. I went up to our waitress and told her the glass broke. She said not to worry, they will clean it right up and get me a new drink (great I thought). She brings over the drink and as she's ready to place it on the table, it falls right from her hand. She quickly brings over another drink. The issue arose when the tab came. The waitress had charged us for the two broken drinks. She was the one who offered to replenish both the drinks and had not mentioned to me they would be at a cost. I was very disappointed. If I could give less than one star, I would, and yes - it's well deserved. From the gross business practices to charging us an additional $500 to the staff having such a bad attitude that members in our party cry, this is a place I would never EVER go back to. After bringing the additional $500 charge to our bill, we tried connecting with management who was rude and dismissed us. They charged us $240 for a charcuterie board which was mediocre as best. After we were done eating, we stayed over three hours to remedy the issue only to be met with attitude and dismissal from the staff. If it's between coming here or dying of hunger and dehydration, the latter would be better. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Everyone treats you like the scum of the earth. read more

I had an hour or so to kill last Friday at 5pm and I was in the area so thought I'd head up to this bar and have a relaxing drink. After all.... what could possibly go wrong? Let's fast forward to an hour later.... at best there were a total of 9 patrons in the place so it wasn't remotely crowded; two stools at a bar that could easily hold 20 or so were both occupied so I patiently stood in the left corner waiting to be served.... 25 minutes later I was neither acknowledged nor looked at. It was like I was Claude Raines as neither of the two bartenders, or the bar back, remotely stole a glance my way. I strongly considered setting myself on fire to see if any reaction whatsoever would be forthcoming. I get it... it's post-COVID and customer service in most restaurant, lounges and bars in NYC have gone from pleading for business to Studio 54 era apathy towards their customers but, hey, here's a suggestion. You guys weren't exactly killing it and the staff I saw was more than adequate to make 9 guests feel *relatively* welcome. I mean does it really take any effort at all to drop a napkin and say "be with you in a sec" or in your case "be with you in 45 minutes"? That was a rhetorical question by the way so I'm not really looking for an answer. In closing I suggest to management that you either find some motivation to have your staff up their game prodigiously or change the name of the place to Mr. Purple Head to reflect your employees demeanor. read more

Mr. Purple is a nice rooftop bar to go to and even to take a group of friends with. I was visiting NYC and since the weather was AMAZING - we went to Mr. Purple. The line was extremely long... there were like 3 separate lines. Good thing it actually moved fast. The view is BEAUTIFUL. We came here on a Saturday late afternoon and it was hard to find a place to just sit and chill. Literally every corner is a bottle service everywhere so there isn't really much room around. The inside is spacious and nice decor. There are also reserved tables inside as well. There is only one bathroom upstairs and a couple downstairs. I thought it was weird that there was only one bathroom upstairs... maybe they have hidden ones? The drinks are really good but pricey. I believe there is a coffee shop downstairs too since its attached to an apartment. I thought that was super cool. I was attempted to get coffee instead. I definitely would come back! read more

Ahhh, the love/hate relationship with Mr. Purple. I'm not the club goer by any means. I rather sit at a low-key bar with snacks and drinks than get gussied up to drink $20 cocktails on a roof, but sometimes, you have to follow the crowd and so I did. Peer pressure won last night. I got here at around 7pm with a few friends this MDW and the line was already out the door, which means I was already over it. The wait looked to be about 20 minutes or more, but my friend knew someone upstairs (THANKFULLY) so we skipped the line of college kids and fresh 21 IDs. Upstairs was PACKED, but the bar space outside wasn't too bad and we made our way there to grab drinks. I've been here before so I knew not to order any wine from here. It's that cheap Franzia type stuff you'd find anywhere else served in a plastic wine glass and 100% guaranteed to give you the rudest of hangovers. Since I knew better, I opted for a cocktail (bad move). I stuck with the Blood Orange Spritz and continued sipping on this for the rest of the night, but this stuff is straight POISON for the body. The mix of liquor and champagne is enough to take down anyone, especially me, someone who doesn't drink often. After 2 of these, I was dehydrated AF and desperate for something to kill off the miserable sugariness from the cheap alcohol. You do NOT get what you pay for here - at $16 a pop, you're overpaying for a headache. I'm bitter about this. What you're paying for is the ambiance and views of the city, which I totally get. The crowd is pretty young and I was lucky enough to watch a beauty blogger risk her life by jumping up on the edge to lay out and take a picture. I felt blessed that my job isn't so dangerous. Hope she got ALL the likes! Everyone here also flocks to the tiny pool to take pictures of it. I did the same because when in Rome... Not sure who is actually swimming in this, but it does make for pretty pictures. Multiple stars for this. All in all, love the view but drink somewhere else beforehand. read more

I love purple! It's been my favorite color since I could remember. Imagine my surprise when we're in NYC and my boyfriend finds a place called Mr. Purple. Not only does it have the "perfect" name, but it's also a rooftop with great views of the beautiful NY skyline. It was a beautiful Sunday morning, clear blue sky, about 50 degrees outside, with a light breeze. We got there just in time to avoid the crowd, and get a table with a view. They also have couches with purple accent pillows to match the name. The inside bar is absolutely beautiful, with an incredible view too. After a couple of minutes our server arrives. In the menu they have, for brunch, mimosas, bloody mary, and other brunch drinks. You can also order from the regular drinks menu, which has a good variety of signature drinks. For food, they offered egg dishes, sandwiches, grilled cheese, salads, sliders, and more. I started with a latte and a mimosa, he had the Lavender Collins. This was very refreshing, and good for brunch. The latte was hot, big, and delicious. Exactly what I needed to wake me up and start my day. The Mimosa comes in one of those "Gatsby like" champagne glasses, making you feel all girly and fancy. My only complaint here is that they only had orange juice, wished they had others like grapefruit. For food we went with the: 1. All American - eggs (your style), bacon/ sausage, breakfast potatoes, and an English muffin with butter. This was good, nothing out of the ordinary - do ask for salt, they apparently don't add any when cooking. The table next to us kept asking to borrow our salt too. 2. Breakfast Sandwich - egg, bacon and cheese, with breakfast potatoes 3. Grilled Cheese - he just had to try it... aged Gruyere, smoked mozzarella, with either fries or salad. The Grilled Cheese was perfectly pressed and melted, but wish it would come with tomato soup or something to add flavor to it. It needed a little something. Service was a little slow, can't imagine how it is during brunch rush or happy hour, but with a view like that and good company you can get past it. Overall it was a good time here, we were full for the rest of the day, which allowed us to have more time to enjoy the city. Even if it wasn't perfect as its name, it's a great rooftop happy hour spot, and place to be seen, and meet up with friends. read more

The line was about 20 minutes without reservation with you taking an elevator to the top after getting through. Seems like pretty standard fare, with seating inside and lounges outside. Drinks are overpriced as with any bar, and the bar area was crowded but nothing special. The view itself is nice but that's all that is there to do up here other than socialize. This is a great summer spot! It's a little pricey for what it is butttt I will say the drinks are quite delicious and the views are on point. It's definitely a perfect spot to either start the evening with the nice views or end the day after a boozy brunch. The views are great from the rooftop and they have two different patios giving people a bit more space. The inside section is still pretty big, with lots of seating. I've been here in the fall/winter before because they do set up the igloos, which is awesome, but it's still kinda cold and the igloos fill up quite quickly. It's also stupidly expensive to reserve and they are always full. I would say it would be worth it to experience it once in the winter but in the summer you can't really go wrong. read more

This rooftop bar is at the top of the hotel my Sister and her Husband stayed at while in NYC for business. The views from the rooftop bar of the city were outstanding. If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping up just to snap a few pictures. We were here Sunday evening and Monday evening. Sunday was a full fledged night club by 7pm. It was packed, the music was loud and the crowd was already drunk. It was not what we expected to talk into on a Sunday night. We came up with the anticipation to have a few drinks before dinner, relax, talk, and watch the sun set. We were still able to do this but had to resort to sitting outside. It was rather chilly Sunday evening and they did not have any type of heaters or fire pits but we made it work. Monday we came back for drinks at about 4pm before we headed out for dinner. Luckily this time the bar was dead and we were able to sit inside and have a comfortable, relaxing, pre dinner gathering. I ordered their burger due to being very hungry and was not impressed for the price. It was $16 and the two patties tasted more like outdoor fair vendor patties than an high class rooftop bar establishment. I was very disappointed in the burger. For $16 I expected a much better quality meal. I'm not sure if I will order food here the next time I pass through. The lack of quality in the burger is why I've given 4 stars instead of 5. One word: VIEWS. This is by far the coolest rooftop bar I've ever been to. It's on top of a hotel so there is an exclusive entrance for hotel members, and an entrance for people heading to the roof. It's a classy, clean bar with a younger crowd. The view of the city is absolutely incredible here! If you come early enough and can skip the line, it's worth coming. Coming to the east coast for the first time, I made it a bucket list item to visit Mr. Purple but was quite let down. My friends and I happened to be barhopping and came upon Mr. Purple around 1am on a Saturday night. Heading inside, we were put in line for about half an hour before finally getting our "Mr. Purple" stamps and heading in and up this elevator onto the small venue. My first impression was just that it was characteristically loud and very dark, but decor was nice and classy, and the view outside was beautiful. However, we weren't allowed outside to the patio! I was so disappointed, and the security guards standing by each glass door leading out to the rooftop (where we could see a pool, lots of nice outdoor seating, and more) would not tell us why we couldn't go outside. It was the entire point of a rooftop bar, and I was really sad that my first experience at a rooftop bar was almost the same as being at any other bar. My friends ordered screwdrivers for us, and the drinks themselves were quite good. We stayed until the venue was about to close, and though the place was nice and cleaner than most, I was still pretty disappointed we couldn't go out on the rooftop. I might come back someday if I'm back in New York, but in the meantime, I'll find something else in LA or SF. read more

1st time here was Memorial Day weekend.. on a Sunday... located in the Hotel Indigo which is on Ludlow ( in the LES) but they make u enter in the back entrance on Orchard. Very small line when I got on that later got longer and longer... No cover which was nice . You get stamped and take the elevator to the top ( 15th floor I believe) There is an inside area with bar and couch/ tables and then there is an outside with a bar, tables, a pool and a nice rooftop view where you can see the Empire State Building and the Freedom tower at the same time. It was a lovely day with breeze. Mixed crowd that had some people that would you stare you down lol ... but then the real cool azz people that were friendly and there to have a good time made it so much better . Crowd was 20-30's mainly . It was fleetweek and that made the crowd more interesting too lol Drinks are expensive $16 a pop. I had two and I was pretty tipsy for a while :) I had the Mr Purple ( I liked) and the Stormy Mule ( ok) ... mules should be in a copper cup in my opinion. I was just recently in NYC with my best friend and you guys were within walking distance of our hotel. We popped in for some drinks and the view was amazing. Hands down gorgeous and the vibe was perfect. Drinks are definitely over priced but that's New York did you! And food was very pricey too. But delicious so I can't complain too much. Portions should definitely be bigger for pricing. Overall the atmosphere was absolutely perfect and the staff were very attentive, even at the bar considering how busy they were. I appreciate not being ignored which is a big pet peeve of mine: like obviously I know you're busy but just acknowledge me and I'll Be happy to wait patiently. I'll definitely be back again!
