Surprisingly good sushi for Columbus! Would like to rate it 3.5 stars. The rolls were fairly authentic and tasty. Our biggest complain was the service. The place is clean and accessible. The food was really good. The miso soup was full and flavorful and the house salad was also pretty bountiful. The rolls were really tasty, we did some spicy rolls, some deep fried rolls and veggie rolls and all were great! The salmon is fresh tasting and the spicy rolls were done super well! We haven't been able to find sushi as good as Toronto sushi here in Cbus but this really came close! Prices aren't terrible but they are still a little overpriced for what they are. Our worst complaint and why I can't bring myself to do one more star is the service. We were greeted at the door however, they said hi and then left us standing there for 5 minutes (despite it being 2p and pretty empty) while he finished something on the computer. Then I spoke up and said- "Can we sit?" He said yes. They weren't attentive and couldn't explain a couple rolls. Also the entire staff was sitting to eat their own lunch at a table even though there were 4 tables of guests eating. It's not attractive to see the chefs eating out of their Tupperware. I'd say if they lifted up the service a touch they'd have a hit. read more

My wife and I have lived in Columbus for 12 years and made it a point to try every sushi place in Columbus when we first got here. Mr. Sushi was the first one we tried and the one we are still going back to 12 years later. The sushi is always fresh and the staff is always attentive. They do amazing business so I have seen them overwhelmed with pick up orders at times so if you are able do the dine in experience do it. It's a great experience with amazing food. read more

The food here is really good. I ate a couple different ones and I thought they were all very good. The only complaint I have is that I took my baby with me and when I went to change him in the bathroom there was no changing table so I had to change him on the bathroom floor for there was no place else to change him. read more

Look, they're right in my neighborhood, the fish is exceptionally fresh (& I'm OCD in this department) and if preferred offer soy paper - in leu of nori. Apart from the freshness, a big make it or break it for me...Thou Shalt Not Drown Thy Sushi! You ordered sushi because you like the delicate and diverse flavors of the fish, right? Sushi obliterated by a sauce kills the very taste of the fish that you've ordered. There are no unnecessary drownings here, so for those who prefer to have their palates shellacked with eel, wasabi mayo etc. you may not enjoy dining here. If I dine in, I sit at the sushi bar where I hypnotically watch the chefs assemble each dish with fastidious detail that feels elegant without being compulsive; movement is economical, precise and a bit meditative. Super thumbs up for Mr Sushi. It's a funny little place. There aren't many tables, it's a little shady, but welcoming at the same time. Their lunch specials are a good value, you get some miso water and a small salad in addition to your entree. If you're not in to sushi, I have to reccomend the Teriyaki hibachi dishes they have. They are gimongous, and really delicious. Teriyaki Salmon is a pretty decent size of delicious salmon with rice, and stir fry vegetables. I sampled the Sunday Morning roll (salmon, cream cheese, tempura fried). It was wacky. But it WORKED! The tuna roll was standard, but really good too. Give it a shot. My brother has been telling me for years that I should check out Mr. Sushi, so I'm not sure why it took me so long to actually get over there. Maybe it's the fact that it's in a tiny strip mall near a (not kidding) combination Indian food grocery and computer repair store. But I digress. It's really tasty, and the price is definitely right. The service has always been friendly and attentive when I've visited. They have a great sushi lunch special that gets you two rolls, some tasty Miso soup, and a salad with that magical ginger dressing. I also recommend the lunch of teriyaki salmon and veggies - GIANT serving of salmon, deliciously prepared, moist and flaky, with a sweet teriyaki glaze. I think about the Pinetato roll (grilled pineapple and tempura fried sweet potato) far too often. It sounds simple (okay, it IS simple), but it is also so delicious! The sweet bite of the pineapple, the crunch of the tempura sweet potato... mmm mmm good. The Sunday Morning roll is so wrong, but so right. Salmon and cream cheese rolled, and the entire thing fried? The cream cheese gets all gooey and melty, and you feel a little weird about eating deep fried sushi, but you have to just keep going. I'll leave you with a story that I promise IS going somewhere. This one time, my husband, my brother and I all went to Mr. Sushi for lunch. It is important to note that my husband has a shellfish allergy, my brother is vegetarian, and I'm allergic to avocado (true, but tragic, story). The server bumped into my husband and spilled some soup on him. To make it up to us, she brought us a complimentary magical appetizer known as Naruto. The Naruto appetizer contains, among other things, crab (or maybe "crab"), shrimp, avocado, tobiko, and is wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber. Since clearly the boys weren't going to be eating any, I decided to pop the avocado pieces out and risk it. And I'm so glad I did! It is seriously good and I'm considering wrapping all of my food in cucumber from now on. I had it again tonight, and no one seemed to mind that I ordered it avocado-free. Mr Sushi is a cute & cozy restaurant in a strip shared with Fresh Thyme Farmer's market.. It looks really nice inside, perfect for date night or meeting with friends. I ordered take out both times and had a pleasant experience with the staff. So the food... The sushi is damn good! My favorites are the Louisiana roll and the kanikatsu roll. The kanikatsu is a deep fried snow crab with avocado. So so good & really affordable for a small portion of 6. Their simple rolls are absolutely fantastic. I also tried the spicy crunch roll but wasn't wowed by how the rolls were topped. I Dont know.. It just didn't do it for me although it was delicious I just wouldn't order that type of sushi. Their apps are also delicious. Ika salad is always a good choice. Sweet smoked shavings of octopus with chili slices. Yum! The harumaki is equally as delicious!! I'm so glad I gave this place a chance (I wasn't a fan of their name.. Bit tacky no?)! I cannot wait for my next sushi fix. Looking forward to trying other items on the menu too. read more

Firstly, the ambience is great, they played new alternative R&B and smooth rock. I would come back again for the atmosphere, but maybe not for the food. We have been frequenting this place and the Gahanna location specifically for many years. Our family has agreed that Mr. Sushi has a great menu, quality and taste of actual sushi. We typically do take out there since their service has never been a highlight but we also had never experienced any major issues with Mr Sushi. Last night changed that drastically for us. My husband was on pick up duty and he called in the order ahead of time. After placing the order he realized he had ordered one too many rolls compared to what we usually get. He immediately called back to edit the quantity and he was told that one of the sushi rolls would be taken off of the order. Later, He arrived and realized that the roll was still on the order and bill so he mentioned it at the check out table. As He politely explained this to the lady that was working the check out table and she began YELLING and POINTING HER FINGER at him while saying "you called here?!?" "You don't want it" she was yelling and walking around and that's all the he could grasp of what she said. This let me know that there was mostly likely a communication disconnection amongst the staff or she just flipped her lid. I'm still not sure why she responded this way but After making a horrible scene and alarming some of the guests that were dining in she took the sushi off of the bill and out of the to-go box. Needless to say Mr. Sushi is out of the Friday take out rotation. I understand that things happen and we give grace especially during this time while maintaining a restaurants' flow is a major challenge. I've done pick up here throughout the pandemic and I've always spoken to a pleasant man on the phone who is most likely the man who processes the transaction when I arrive and I haven't had a problem like this. They are really busy. They were not able to immediately so I took a seat at the bar. No one has check on me. No menu. No plates. Nothing. I may leave an go to place that is able to serve. Normally I would not post such a negative review. Generally if you go to a manager they make it right and that is enough for me. In this case I went to a manager, and he took off the 1 sushi roll in the photos, $6-7 on my $50 ticket. As you can see it had more hair than a chianti pet. Short black (Asian?) hairs. Look like someone had just got a hair cut. The response to my complaint was underwehlming. Keep in mind this was the last plate, I was half way through it when my date noticed. It went from good, to I feel sick because I realized I just ate some cooks hairs. Like I said if they had taken the food off made me pay for our drinks I would have been ok, but telling me "Hey you caught us! Haha! We won't make you pay for the chia pet plate!" sic, unacceptable. Two stars because service was slow and staff did not seem very friendly when first arrived. She seemed annoyed and irritated that we came in at 8:30pm when they close at 10! Walked in and nobody greeted us until moments later. Usually when you walk into a sushi place the sushi chefs would greet u but nope not even a hello. Went here with friends on their recommendation...didn't disappoint. If you are looking for a place with good rolls and a good price then this is your place. It's not swank, and you won't get the warm towel or anything like that. Tables and chairs are basic and so is decor...but a few sakes and will you notice? Service was good and the sushi came out very quickly...impressive for ordering about 7 rolls. We also went with server recommendation of their baby octopus special. I went here on the recommendation of a close friend. The service was prompt and very friendly. The sushi was made to order and came out pretty quickly too. I ordered the spicy tuna and the spice salmon rolls and my wife had the Idaho and the smoked salmon rolls. The fish in my rolls was very tender and tasted very fresh. We really enjoyed Mr. Sushi and plan to return (we've gotten their take-out a couple of times, but this was my first dine-in experience). The atmosphere is very casual, so I didn't feel out of place having my small kids with me. I wouldn't call the service terribly warm - a little rushed/short but polite enough. It wasn't terribly crowded on a weeknight. They have booths, tables, and sushi bar seating. We had a few rolls and edamame. The rolls were a good size for a reasonable price. Your basics were in the $3-5 range, with a handful of special rolls costing more in the $8-12 range. The fish all tasted fresh & was delicious! Although they screwed up a coworker's order of sushi (...despite ordering raw food, his order came out after all or pots). Turned away because we have a service dog.  This is becoming a familiar situation with newly-owned sushi restaurants.  Front-door workers at Mr. sushi, Sushi Factory and Sushi En have all yelled at us and blocked our way when we tried to enter.  We try to explain the law about service animals, but they yell over us and demand that we leave. Our 30 Lb  service dog is fully trained and doctor prescribed and wears a red service dog jacket.  He lies quietly under the table, as he was trained to do.  After arguing with restaurant employees and presenting a printed card with an explanation of the American Disabilities Act, we are still unwelcome. We have considered calling the police or bringing a lawsuit, but it is clear that there is no educating these individuals. We are not sure why these new owners have a fear of dogs, but the law is clear, and the restaurants need to follow it. read more
