Hate to be a wet rag, but I wasn't very impressed with this place. Sure, it's a Japanese Grill that cooks your stir-fry meats and veggies as you share a hot stove top seat with strangers. And sure, the guys making the food can do some impressive tricks with the food, like setting it on fire, throwing it into your mouth, and stacking it up. BUT - the facility here is, well - gross. The interior is dark and stark. Every time I stood up from my seat my flip flops LITERALLY stuck to the floor. At one point the floor claimed victory over my shoe and I tripped and my foot ::eww!:: was defenseless against the nasty, greasy carpeted mess of a floor. If the carpeted floor is this gross, how does is the out-of-sight kitchen operated? We looked for the Health Inspection Sanitation grade on the windows or walls of the place with no luck. This was, of course, after we had eaten our dinner and lost our shoes on the slimy carpet. For $30 my husband and I ordered the veggie combo in addition to an eel sushi platter. The hubs had nothing but great things to say about the eel. The veggie combo began with a bowl of miso soup and a salad with some sort of (strong) ginger dressing. The veggies prepared on the grill were slathered in butter with a side of hollandaise butter sauce and consisted mostly of onions, zucchini, and mushrooms. Mostly mushrooms and butter, though. Man, I don't even like mushrooms, so my dinner was pieces of zucchini and rice. Lame. read more

I had a decent experience here. The restaurant is set up extremely weird and was very dimly lit to the point where you couldn't really even tell what you were eating. None of the staff was really engaging, the guy getting our water and plates was kind of clueless, I asked him if they had soy paper as it didn't say on any of the menus and he acted like he had no idea what soy paper was. Our actual waiter was pretty prompt but again none too friendly. The star was definitely the sushi. The sushi menu itself seemed pretty vanilla, but the rolls I got were really good! My favorite was probably the sumo roll. The only down side to the rolls I got where that they were absolutely caked in Panko which I felt was pretty unnecessary. The prices were good compared to other local sushi places and the rolls were a good size. I'm definitely planning on going back! read more

Me. Sushi Japanese steakhouse is just a little bit off 291 but is a must for dining. Great ownership and always a friendly staff is a great pathway start for your experience. There are two parts: sushi or hibachi and we usually do hibachi. Soup for starters and on my last visit the flavor was best to the bottom. Soup then salad and we always get white rice with yellow sauce. Now comes the hibachi show. Something to note, the teriyaki chicken has lots of tasty sauce so I usually make a bed of rice before chef lays it on plate, so none of the best flavoring is wasted and the rice locks in the flavor making a clean plate and excellent leftovers the next day! The vegetables are always fresh and mouthwatering as is the chicken, steak and/or shrimp, whatever your choice. We always get the chicken and occasionally shrimp. We've tried a lot of places and this is the best place to eat lunch virtually anywhere for the price. Best price and outstanding value why eat lunch anywhere else on the weekdays? If you go on a weekend or Friday night, make sure you get reservations as the wait can be lengthy but still worth it. Try it today and make sure to leave your review. read more

I celebrated my birthday here with my family. Biggest mistake ever. We had reservations, but they waited until our entire party got there before they would even seat us. Our party finally arrived, but the other big party got seated first, so we had to wait until ANOTHER table was available. Keep in mind, their "seating area" is just a couple dining room chairs up against the window. This was mid-July & the restaurant was stuffy as hell, with no sign of air conditioning. When we finally got seated, everyone in my family got the Hibachi, which was cool to watch. I decided to order sushi, since that's the whole reason I picked this restaurant to begin with. It took us 10-15 minutes to even get drinks & another 20 minutes to order. Watching them cook the food was pretty cool, but my sushi did not come until AFTER my everyone in my party was done eating their food. I had to ask them 3-4 when my food was coming. It took them an hour and a half to make about 3-4 sushi rolls. I don't understand why they would even let people order sushi if they don't have enough people to make the sushi! They did say they were really busy, but that's not an excuse at all. 2 stars because my family enjoyed the food that they ate, but the service was UNACCEPTABLE. Save yourself the headache & splurge for the Drunken Fish or Kobe, especially if you have a large party. I actually have had sushi here before, & it was decent, but I also came in the evening time, and sat in the sushi bar area, with only one other person. Mr. Sushi has a wide selection of fresh sushi. The dining area is dimly lit making a perfect setting for a romantic date, but is also a delightful spot for friends and family. Their spicy crab salad is delicious! Decent prices and quick service. read more

Sorry, but I can't remember his name. So why am I talking about the employees of Lee's Summit's best kept secret? Because they are just delightful! Excellent service to match with their excellent food! Mr. Sushi used to be just sushi. Then they expanded to offer Japanese steakhouse in the adjoining area. They also have a full-service bar. Yes, the steak is great. But the 5 stars is for the service and the sushi. Try the Lee's Summit Roll, which is a tempura (fried) roll with salmon on the inside. Then they drizzle it with some wonderful sauce. The crab salad is fantastic! I lived in Lee's Summit for two years. This place was really the only thing that I liked about living there. I must've missed the hype on this place. Their fish tasted sub-par, and believe me when I say, I eat some strange things and this seemed more a part of the "strange" that I eat versus the "clean, fresh" you would expect from a sushi place. I eat at a ton of Japanese steakhouses. After reading the reviews I was a little hesitant to try this place. I was early, I showed up about 10 till 5 and was the only one there. I said I didn't want them to start a grill just for me. They were insistent that it was perfectly fine and set me down. Maybe because I was the only one there I have their full attention but my drink never went dry and the food was phenomenal. Steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was extremely tender and flavorful. The rice was some of the best I've had. A lot of places will overcook the chicken because they are afraid of it being under done and it turns out very dry. This chef with spot-on chicken was moist and delicious. Fool me once.... Save your money. I'd take Sakura over this place. The atmosphere is utterly gross. The most well prepared thing on the menu was the Dr. Pepper. Bones in my sushi. The rice tasted like it had rice vinegar just dumped all over it. Horrible that they're able to get away with calling this sushi. I'm probably going to be sick tomorrow. Wait staff was also a mess. I never could tell who exactly was supposed to be taking my order and bringing the food. Dirty dishes left on the table for the entire meal, but, considering the floor looked as if it was getting worse service with food all over it from the day if not the week. They never did ask me how I liked my meal. That's probably for the best. The more I think of it, the more I want to go back and demand a refund. The sushi and service were great, but the two sushi chefs were not wearing their masks over their mouth and nose. Another customer complained and one chef placed it on his face properly. The other chef never did. Our lovely waiter did not wear his mask over his nose, and one kitchen worker had no mask at all. It was very unnerving. I will not be back, during this COVID era. Went here for the first time tonight for a friend's birthday. Was craving sushi, but once I walked in the smell of the food on the hibachi grills made me want that instead. I opted for 1 sushi roll and some hibachi as well. 1st and foremost, the sushi....wow! I ordered the Lee's Summit roll after reading reviews on here and was NOT disappointed! It was tempura fried and honestly could work as an appetizer at any restaurant. I was halfway through eating before I remembered to take a picture of it. As for the hibachi nothing mind blowing but quality none the less. My only complaint was a little overkill on the teriyaki sauce. A very average experience overall. My son wanted me to try some sushi and I was agreeable. We both ordered sushi, but as back ups we ordered traditional cooked dinners as well. The sushi was just okay-even for my son who likes it .I'm not going to attempt to review it as I'm not well versed. My concerns overall are as follows: One chef attempted to cook for the full table next to ours as well as the four people at our table - TWELVE people. One cooking surface. One chef. The only explanation I could think of was it would save him from having to heat up and clean a second cooking surface. The result was a very long drawn out lunch. Our rice & vege's were eaten by the time we got our entree. As our table surface wasn't heated, I tried to keep my sake warm by putting my cup on top of the vessel. When the server reached for my water glass, she clipped my partially filled sake cup & spilled some of it. When the chef returned my plate to me (with the freshly cooked chicken on it), he clipped my sake cup & spilled some of it. So, a mediocre lunch costing a bit over $50.00. My son wasn't impressed with their sushi, I wasn't impressed with their labor saving tactics or the time we spent waiting to have our lunch served. Most unprofessional experience I've had in years. Took 10 minutes to call to make the reservation and they goofed around the entire time I was on the phone because no one had any idea what was going on. Then we got there and they checked us in and waited 20 minutes then they came back and said they couldn't find reservation, even though it was on the list. Made reservations for a party of 12 on a Saturday evening at 6 p.m. and didn't get seated until 6:45. We had a reservation for a limo ride at 7:45 p.m. across town. Then they seated our large party at a small hibachi where there wasn't enough room for everyone to sit comfortably. We asked to be switched with a smaller party of 8 and the waitress obliged but why should we have had to do that anyway? Then we had to wait for orders to be taken...by this time it's 7:15. We had to call and make later reservations for the limo ride and pay $50 extra!! Needless to say, our ladies' night out got off to a bad start and we were not happy. There doesn't seem to be a manager running the place and nobody seems to care that you are being inconvenienced. They also sat 4 strangers at our table and that was awkward! Just ordered Mr. Sushi off door Dash and the Sushi part of our order was amazing! The hibachi part was not so great. For starters, we ordered steak and chicken & chicken and shrimp were delivered. When we finally started getting our food, our cook, who had two front gold teeth, spent most of his time interacting with the people across from us. Went there for the first time after reading reviews that leaned more on the good side of things. First off, it was mr sushi or Kobe's steakhouse. We decided on the former due to it being ~2 min away. Walked in and was immediately greeted and sat. Overall service was great, no bugging, just right. Ordered the saki, tasted just like any other saki I've had honestly and I was happy with that. Onto the food. Decided on the Steve roll alongside the 3 combo rolls of shrimp tempura, tuna, and California. All 4 tasted every bit as good as I expected but 1, the shrimp tempura. I felt as if it needed more shrimp as all the other sushi bars seem to add more with the tail sticking out of it. I will definitely be going there again trying new rolls; but to all those saying it just wasn't up to par, I say decide for yourself and take the plunge. My family and I have come here often, once every month or so. But this time was hands down the best. We came for my sisters birthday so we had a full table yet the food was prepared perfectly. And our Chef was the funniest guy we've had here. When you come here make sure you ask for Jason! He will have you're food prepared perfectly and your sides splitting from laughter. I went here once after hearing so many raves about this place and being a conesseur of fine Japanese cuisine, thought I would give it a try. Very disappointed. Overpriced and bland. The sushi was nothing to write home about and the filty carpet and stained window treatments were rather off putting. I love smoked salmon and salmon roe and enjoy trying it at different restaurants... To "Mr. Sushi" I say, not just "No", but "HECK NO!" I will NEVER go there again--EVER!If there was some way to rate this place as less than one star I would have done that without any hesitation. My food took far longer than RAW food should EVER take. It took over 30 minutes before it came and the place was not full or crowded or anything. I was dining alone so it's not as if they had to get the food for my party. They checked on me ONCE and that was BEFORE my meal arrived. When my food finally arrived the Smoked Salmon was pasty and warm as in room temperature food that was just sitting around. The Salmon Roe was ICKY. It was the same disgusting warm temperature, but it was also STICKY. GUMMY in fact. I was expecting to blow a fish egg bubble at any moment. Smh! After the first bite I didn't eat anymore-- I just couldn't bring myself to finish such a disgusting dish. I was in a really good mood and was working on some writing and didn't want to spoil my mood so I didn't complain; I paid, left a big fat ZERO of a tip prayed that I wouldn't succumb to food poisoning, then went elsewhere and got the same food at the proper temperature. read more
