This is an Uber Eats review. The food is so bad, like they make Panda Express a Michelin star restaurant. The spicy chicken is a joke. They look like deep friend cauliflower because of the round shape. I took a bite and tasted nothing but a fried dough. I thought that was an accident. Tried another one, same thing, so I cut up every single one and found out they were pretty much fried dough with tiny chicken in it. They might as well called it hush puppies with chicken. The fried rice was another joke. It tastes like just regular rice mixed with some soy sauce and they didn't even bother to mix thoroughly. Hot and sour soup was edible compare to the other two. Ordered for takeout; they are conveniently open very late. Favorite dish was ironically the free house fried rice (has a variety of meat). Pea shoots were too oily but flavor was not bad. The biggest dan dan noodle falloff award goes to... Mr Szechuan. 2022 was the first time I ate it here and it was DELICIOUS. The sauce was flavorful and mouth numbingly spicy. Revisited in 2024, the quality had noticeably dried up and was more of a pile of ground pork with some seasoning. Then hits 2026, where I was ripped off with the wrong kind of noodle and a semblance of Dan Dan "sauce", pretty much just a sad pile of salty pork and a couple tiny hidden bok choys. Seems like they have some delicious options on the menu still, but I'm devestated their crown jewel on the menu has been reduced from an ultra memorable dish to this dry rubbish. The server was as polite and as expected, and the order arrived quickly. I was a little concerned about the loud arguing in the kitchen. Hopefully it was good natured bantering. Also, the entire restaurant REEKED of stale sweat, and there were buckets of unwashed dishes sitting around and a RAID! can spray in plain view. I would love to come and enjoy the food again but I will have to hear a few miraculous turnaround stories til that's the case. read more

Food: The food itself has very good flavor, however, it was not consistent. The house chowmein and Mongolian beef were extremely salty. The dry pot was on the blander side. My favorite was the salt and pepper king oyster mushrooms, but the batter was a bit too thick. We did come later at night around 11 pm and it looked short staff, so I would try coming again in the day to see if that would make a difference. Service: There was only one person working in the front. When we came, there was a lot of unbussed tables. For ordering, we order through a QR code, and then pay at the end. The only time the server would come by is when he brings by food or if we ask for more water. The service wasn't bad but it just wasn't attentive as there is only one person working in front. Ambience: This is a medium sized restaurant, with lots of table. It seems that the main customer base is students, probably from SF State. They open very late until 1 am. Authentic Szechuan food that is spicy! There is no parking lot here, so you'll need to park in the neighborhood. We ordered the following: - fried green beans - large portion and a nice offset vs the meat and spicy food we ordered - minced pork over rice bowl - an individual-sized rice bowl, but was nice and comforting vs all the meat dishes - beef chow fun - great wok taste! - chili fried chicken- spicy but too many chili peppers. Half the plate was red chilis. I wouldn't order this again - dry pot. I liked the concept where you can add the meats and vegetables you wanted, but there was barely any flavor and not worth the cost - salt and pepper fish fillet - was ok. This is a long overdue review for Mr Szechuan. OMG we love love love this place. This has quickly became one of our top 3 go-to place for delivery. Food are reasonably priced, always well packaged, delivered hot and oh so so yummy. #1 dish for us is their Spicy Chicken 辣子鸡 we now getting 2 portion each time so husband and I won't have to fight for it. Their Minced Pork Rice 肉燥饭 is my favorite too, kinda wish they have a bigger portion or a side of the Minced Pork to order but sadly no. Sometimes I get their Super Bento just to try out more of their menu items since our go-to always include Spicy Chicken and Minced Pork Rice, making a little hard to try out another full dish. Desserts are great too - Sesame Balls and Fried Banana are my go-to. One of these day will definitely try to come in person. read more

This is very unfortunate for a restaurant that I thought would meet my standards based on the last time I visited. My dine in experience a few months ago was pleasant. However my uber eats order tonight was probably one of the worst meals I'd ever experience in my entire life. First of all it was a busy Friday night, so I get it. Exceeded expectations for late night snacks at 19th and Taraval. Open till 1 AM on a Saturday night so we stopped in (after seeing a musical at the Orpheum theater) on the way home. Mr. Szechuan is so good! A huge variety of options and fan favorites. I know it should be obvious, but warning to others there is a good amount of Szechuan spice used in these dishes. So if you don't like that tingly numbing feeling then choose cautiously, like the chili oil dumplings. Our favorites were the spicy fish filets, general tsao chicken, and the soy scallion noodles! The portions are generous and we ordered way too much food for 3 people but had lots of leftovers to enjoy. There was only one server there and she was managing a lot with 3 dine in tables and lots of take out orders. She did a pretty good job but I could see on some nights how the service might be a little slow. They do serve complimentary hot tea which was very nice! I've been curious about this place for a while, having walked past it many times. I needed to find a late night spot for dinner and the menu had a good number of options. We ordered two Beef Skewers, Laksa Noodle Soup, and Black Bean Noodles. The skewers had a decent seasoning that's not spicy, just mostly salty. However, the meat quality was terrible. The pieces were small, dry, and had a texture almost like tough beef jerky. I had high hopes for the Laksa Noodle Soup, but unfortunately, it was incredibly bland. The only flavor that came through was a faint hint of coconut. There wasn't even a salt shaker on the table to try to make it more appetizing. As for the Black Bean Noodles, once mixed, it was clear that the noodles weren't even properly coated in the sauce. They gave so little of it and the sauce itself was bland too. I was hungry one night when I needed something that was still open after a late night at work. After seeing that Mr Szechuans was open , I decided to give it a try. The plan was to my wife back a plate so we could share one together. I ordered the beef chow mein. I was hungry so I I tried it when I got back to my car. It was so good the plan had changed. I now was going to eat my portion and bring hers. But then the stop light came. And I had to eat more. And in the 10 stops it took to get home, the plan had changed again. If she was hungry I would cook because there was nothing left to share 10/10 That beef chow mein is so good that I haven't even tried anything else. Way overdue. I remember the first time I came here vividly. A few years back, I recall thinking to myself, "Wow, this place is good... didn't know my neighborhood had a good Sichuan spot." During that visit I recall so many good things about it like the mala pigs ears, spicy chicken gristle, spicy n pickled fish broth, and few others I still frequently enjoy. However, there was the beef noodle soup that didn't strike a chord with us. The soup was somehow overly sweet. Balance was absolutely off and more like a dessert soup at that point. Unlike most Chinese restaurants, I was taken by surprise. I brought it up to one of the staff members (most likely owner) and without a question, they said we can bring you another one or we can just take it off for you. They handle it quickly and kindly. Blew my mind only because you don't expect that from a Chinese operated restaurant. Few years later, an order tonight which I thought I'd get dark meat for the spicy chicken but it came with white meat. (If you're Chinese, you'll know we'd never make that with white meat.) I called in just to check if it's was the norm there since I've never ordered it there even I frequent there. I just wanted to make sure that if it was indeed their norm that I wouldn't order it next time. Instead, they confirmed it was suppose to be dark meat. Immediately, they said they'll refund me on my to-go order. I declined the refund since it was perfectly made and nothing wrong other than not exactly what I expected. They insisted and still refunded me. In Chinese, he said, "We're running a business here. If it was a mistake, it has to be refunded. We want you to be a long time customer." The place is never overly crowded and music is fun 2000s, with friendly chill service as well. I've eaten here more than 10 times and i love that they would give you your space and orders are fast. My new favorite dry pot place!! I've been searching forever for a good mala dry pot place and randomly stumbled upon here and it was great. The flavors and spice level were good and portion size for the price was also reasonable, plus it comes with rice or a noodle as well. My only suggestion or wish is that they had the option to add more veggies, they limit you to 2 meat, 4 veggies but we would have easily wanted to add a lot of veggies to share a bigger dry pot for 2. my friends and I came here at like 10:15ish and they were still happy to take us. i wish i got the guy's name, but he was so funny and nice to us. He definitely made this place go from a 4 to a 5 for me. The highlight dish was the Mongolian beef because it was sweet, a tad spicy but overall pretty tasty. The dry pot was amazing, big portions where you can choose 4 veggie and 3 meats. The best part was also the chili wontons, had a deep peanut flavour that worked well to cut the spice. I think I ordered the wrong thing at this place cause it's not what they're known for but I was craving something hot juicy and bite sized so I got soup dumpling and sheng jian bao. There was not a single drop of soup in either of the dumplings unfortunately. Im guessing all of the xiao long bao dumpling skin had gotten punctured somehow and all the soup had drained out (assuming there was soup to begin with).
