It was my wife and I's 2nd wedding anniversary last week and we wanted to eat a nice restaurant downtown. After much deliberation, we settled on Mrs. Fish! Why you ask? because any restaurant that has a giant fish tank in the ceiling is a winner in my book. We made a reservation for 6:00PM and were seated as soon as we arrived. From the moment you walk into this place, it is absolutely stunning! Once checked in at the front door, you walk down an awesomely painted tunnel downstairs before being seated in the beautiful main room. The menu here is full of different types of sushi, rice dishes, and the other usual things you would expect from a higher end sushi joint. I'm going to be completey honest here about what I ate....I don't actually remember what everything I ate was since my wife tends to order a bunch of different rolls and I simply eat whatever is in front of me, BUT, here's what I thought of the things I did remember eating. Chicken Meatballs- These small little balls of chicken were absolutely full of flavour and absolutely delicious! Seared Tuna Crispy Rice- I tried these at Tom Tom in West Hollywood a few weeks back so I was stoked to try some more here and they were absolutely amazing! Vegetable Fried Rice- No matter where I go for sushi, I always enjoy having some kind of a fried rice dish on the side and this day was no different. The rice itself was solid and had a fried egg on top. Those were the non sushi things I ate and outside of trying Barracuda for the first time and absolutely falling in love with it, every single Nigiri roll I ate was absolutely mouth wateringly delicious. Overall, Mrs.Fish was a five star sushi experience from the second we walked in till the second we walked out. The staff here was super friendly throughout our visit and even gave us a small desert to share to celebrate our anniversary. Very nice staff and our server was Connor who checked on us often. Not crowded at 5pm on a Saturday evening so it was nice and quiet. They have valet parking but otherwise it's competitive meter street parking or those $20 lots. It was an easy walk from the Opera too. Seaweed salad: a lot different from the tub at Costco or most sushi places. It was much leafy-er and had more ruffage. Not slimy at all and closer to romaine. Very interesting and refreshing. Mountain yams: similar to tater tots but lighter and healthier. Fun bite sized crunch. Gyoza: not as crispy as I'd like but very juicy on the inside. Surprisingly hefty even though it looks small. Ponzu sauce was okay. Golden Roll: very light and refreshing but there wasn't much flavor. Fish was tender but I couldn't tell what cut of fish I was eating. A housemade ponzu or lemon seaoning would've been nice. Oyabun: would've been better without mayo and the rice was a little overcooked, but it was a fun roll. Lots of flavor but the beef overpowered the lobster. Emoji cooler: a slightly spicy tangy watermelon drink. Like tajin and sugar on watermelon. Fantastic experience tonight celebrating our daughters 15th birthday. She had never been here so there was plenty of exciting art and décor to look at. We were seated in a table just next to the one under the fish tank and had a wonderful view of the restaurant. Upon being seated by the host we were brought water and some warm hand towels which is a very nice touch. We shared everything which was great since we got to try so many items. Drinks: OTONANO AMASA- My husband loved the drink maybe not the glass it came in since it was shaped like a little bird. OAXACAN HOP- Very nice strong drink but also light. JOKI- we shared this since it serves tow and loved it. It's a very generous amount and the flavor was like unique. Guava Mama- This was our daughter mocktail and I wish they served it with alcohol. It was delicious and a wonderful drink. Starter: Pork Gyoza- We loved these. I believe they came in an order of 5. They were large and tender. Small Plates: Pork Belly Skewer: This actually cam out lukewarm. I don't think that's how it was supposed to come out but we didn't want to say anything. It's three small skewers and although it was flavorful, I could have done without this and saved the $15 dollars it costs. Not something I'd order again. Sushi: Nigori Salmon Belly- We'd never had this a wow was it delicious. Well worth the $11 for two pieces. Nottonight roll- This was good but nothing special. Signature Dishes: Tai Snapper: Comes in a broth and was cooked very well. Had light citrusy flavors. Yakis Noodles: These were definitely a must. Great for sharing and full of flavor and veggies. We opted for the drink (pictured below) and it was so good. The service was quick, and the food was amazing ! We had 2 servers who were really attentive and they checked on us continuously. Was just there Friday, July 17. The greeter at the door was fantastic, warm and welcoming! Even when we left he was attentive and friendly. The hostess however was none of these things. She continued conversation with coworkers and the guest who came in prior to us, as we stood for some time waiting to be seated. And no it was not busy or crowded at the time we came in, which was just after 5. We felt like we were imposing on her time. The ambiance is delightful, and our food and drinks incredible. My family and I had been trying to get to Mrs Fish for what seems like about a year now but we were finally able to go on Tuesday, 4/29 for a birthday celebration. Our reservations were for 7 p.m. and they have a strict policy that everyone in your party have to be present before you are seated. They do have valet parking for $15.75 and they do not accept cash for valet parking. The restaurant is very beautiful on the inside with a beautiful aquarium and fish above. Not sure how often they have live entertainment but they had a really good singer the night we were there that offered the perfect ambiance. The food was delicious, very fresh and filling! The service was very good and attentive. We brought our own cake in and they cut and served it to us for $4 per slice. We will definitely return to Mrs. Fish in the near future. read more

I really appreciated all the art in there as well as their music taste (there was a live dj that night) the food was great, sushi was fresh, and the drinks were delicious. Our party booked a reservation for this spot weeks in advance and were able to get seated upstairs. The vibe is a bit different upstairs but the DJ playing music was still able to be loudly heard upstairs. We sat down at a table that gave a warm office feel- with a couch outstretched for a group of 6-7 people to sit in. Our view was of the restaurant down below. We were a bit dismayed the aquarium was really only at the entrance. We also noticed our server took a while to come back to us after we ordered drinks, and they had barely checked up on us until we had to leave and get the bill. All of us ended up ordering 2 entrees each, and despite so, all of us still had room left in our stomachs to eat more. The portion sizes were small for the price, but we do agree that the meals and plates were delicious and cooked wonderfully. I got the flat iron prime rib (medium) and it was nice to taste, but it tasted dry for me. The mushrooms and the sauce however were super soft and great to chew. The salmon carpaccio tasted super fresh and had some zesty sauce topped on it. I was pleased with the lengths of the salmon rolled up for it. The ribeye was a favorite order from our group and it tasted soft and delicious being medium cooked. BEWARE OF THE VALET SERVICE HOWEVER! We used two cars and were curious on where our cars were parked for valet. We were a bit shocked to see that one of our friends checked out the cams of where his Tesla was parked, to see that it was just parked on a street. Mind you we are in DTLA. My boyfriend had also checked the mileage before we dropped it for valet, and we noticed 6 miles was used! Valet was $15 and there were so many cars lined up. It was a bit of a mess. When we were ready for our car, they left it on emergency hazards in the left lane (out of the two lanes on the street). It felt dangerous coming back in the car with oncoming traffic passing by. Honestly it may be better to get a $19 parking spot at the garage across the street versus $15 with an added SIX miles to your car. Beware of the way valet works over here. read more

They have live fish in the tanks and the place is super romantic! I was first sat on a table downstairs, but asked to move to the main floor, which they happily let me! Amazing customer service from when we reserved the restaurant online and when we walked through the majestic stairs down. It is a very personal atmosphere and really good for imminent settings/gatherings. We went for a birthday and it went smoothly. My favorite stand out dishes from each category were: Salmon Carpaccio, Jidori Chicken Karage, Kaisen, and the cheesecake. The fish tasted fresh and paired well with the toppings and sauces that they provide us. We barely used our soy sauce at all. Very normal "LA" service where the waiter doesn't introduce themselves, ask if you've been here before, or go over the menu or recommend their favorites. I'd rather just order from a QR code at that point. The cocktail server dropping off the drinks was more friendly than our server unfortunately. KARAOKE VIP ROOM I don't gatekeep because sharing is caring and we want Mrs. Fish to always be crackin.... did you know they have a PRIVATE KARAOKE ROOM with your own restroom?! The room has 2 sofas and a low coffee table and they even include fun props like sunglasses, cowboy hat, tambourines and the best part was a private bathroom inside! I will give you this as my best advice for this restaurant. Make sure you RSVP for the time and date that you would like to dine here. This place was crazy crowded for a Tuesday evening. We actually made our reservations 3 months ahead of time. I had to make a ticker on open table to let me know as soon as the date I want it was available to reserve. I am so thankful that I did that! The customer service was phenomenal! Brian was our service professional and he was on point! Great personality, detailed and very attentive! We had a party of six celebrating three special events. He took care of us and SEVERAL other large parties with FINESSE! The seafood was extremely fresh and well presented with a yummylicious factor! The ambiance was trendy and extremely beautiful. It gave you a speakeasy feel with an angel singing with their live band! The decor gave you a upscale sea theme combining it with a modern classic touch. The parking is definitely difficult due to it being in the heart of Los Angeles. However, the convenience of the restaurant partnering with a valet service made it much more easier for us to make our reservations on time. Rating 5 being the highest Wagyu 4-great tenderness and light in flavor. The side dishes were a lil bland which did not compliment the wagyu as it should have. Skirt steak 5-We did have to send it back the first time because I had ordered medium rare but it came out medium. The wait was worth it. The flavor was savoring and the mushrooms definitely kicked it up a notch. I would definitely order this dish again. Rib eye 5-My husband ordered this dish and he is definitely a carnivore at heart. He is very picky and he actually enjoyed every single bite. Since my husband is 6ft tall, the portion was rather small for him. It was a good thing that we ordered so many appetizers that he thoroughly enjoyed as well. That filled up his tummy! Short ribs 4-My father-in-law ordered this dish. He said he definitely enjoyed it and the tenderness was there. However, he said it was lacking a little bit in flavor. The side dishes also came out a little too overcooked. Uni Pasta 3- This wasn't my cup of tea. The noodles and sauce were okay. It basically tasted like spaghetti sauce mixed in with some really good cheese. I didn't get a lot of seafood flavor or seafood pieces in the sauce. This dish was not spectacular or yummylicious like the other dishes at the restaurant. Black Miso Cod 5-My mother-in-law completely enjoyed this dish. She said the fish was perfectly cooked in seasoned and the spinach complimented it. She is an amazing cook and is able to make anything. So she says this was that good, that means it was that good! The additional dishes that we ordered were the Kaisen roll, a variety of sashimi and nigiri, each one of the skewers that were available amongst tempura and alot adult sodas. Every single dish that involved raw seafood was beyond spectacular! The seafood was so fresh! You can literally taste the freshness and the softness in their dishes. There are so many other restaurants that do not hold this high level of quality with their seafood. Every single one of those skewers were delectable! We even ordered a second round of them. You don't have to worry about the adult sodas being watered down here. They are definitely flavorful and have plenty of oomph! Dishes were hit or miss. Not the freshest fish. Didn't live up to the expectations of IG hype. Service was okay. We arrived earlier than our reservation and got sat in some dark and sad looking corner in a lower level than the main floor. Wow, I was so excited trying out this new Japanese cuisine restaurant that has a beautiful and majestic aquariums inside. My cousin decided to have her birthday dinner here and wow was it sooo delicious. Not only was the food amazing but the service! All the staff were so kind and attentive, the ambiance was amazing! They had music playing but it wasn't too loud or too low, so you're able to have an intimate conversation. From the beer, to the sake, to the starters, and all the dishes they had available honestly everything was 10/10. Here is a list of what I ordered but first I'll share my drink selection. YoHo Aooni beer (IPA Beer was really good!!) (DRINKS NOT INCLUDED) We had a party of 11 people total. So with the tip included of twenty percent of the service charge for tip but with drinks we spent about $1500 and some change. Overall our experience was amazing, the menu they created for my cousin Stephanie was super cute and thoughtful she loved every second of it, it even had "Happy birthday Stephanie" included on it just for her. I hope it was as memorable for her as it was for us. I visited this location tonight with a party of 5. We had a reservation set up in advance for the karaoke room. The service was subpar at best with the exception of Harrison who was the only real saving grace for this place. Overall the karaoke room is more like a storage room/ basement converted to a private dining area with a tv/ karaoke system. Staff entered the room multiple times throughout our dining experience to put away various table setting lamps, etc. The female server who entered our room with Harrison was pretty rude right off the bat. Luckily Harrison was kind to us and turned the vibe around. We ordered a series of starters but then nobody ever returned to take our food order, we had to go find wait staff to place our order and then once we did finally get to place our food order they mentioned it was also last call so we had to make sure to order the perfect amount because we wouldnt have a chance to add more later. Had they come by earlier we would have been able to order more. The staff returned a few times to drop off various dishes but specifically when they dropped off the dessert dishes for whatever reason they did not take away any of the empty plating. I also saw on the restaurant policy it says a gratuity of 20% is automatically added to the bill for parties of 8 or more, however for my party of 5 they so graciously added it without consent.. Had I not bothered to look I would've tipped an additional 20%. It may not have been intentionally dishonest, but it feels slimy and certainly left a bad taste in my mouth after the already sub-par service we had received. Heard about this place from a coworker. Did not disappoint! You have to get a reservation. Parking is a challenge so plan out ahead of time. We happened to be in Little Tokyo all day so we walked 20 min to come to the restaurant. Expect to spend $50 plus per person. There's someone at the entrance to check you in then a long stairway down into the fancy upscale modern space. The restaurant is most known for its long suspended fish tank above people's heads. Then there are bright pieces of art that have a contemporary feel on the walls and mobile like chandeliers that look like stacked eggshells (would've been even cooler with some tentacles to look like jellyfish). We were seated immediately and s as ok staff were extremely attentive, professional, and helpful. We ordered avocado salmon rolls and tai carpaccio as well as a Roku yuzu Collin's cocktail off of the happy hour menu. We then ordered the Otto drink (smoky whisky based), shishito peppers appetizer, veggie curry udon, short ribs (on a bed of mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables), miso soup and veggie tempura, and miso black cod (on a bed of greens) from the main menu. Food is brought out as dishes are ready. All in all a memorable dining experience! I even went upstairs to check out the second floor which has a second bar. Hostess downstairs were not the best, no greeting & busy talking away then was told to wait for our table in which was another 20 mins wait. Sat us in the worst seating of the house, all the way in the corner with all the other empty seats around us. The server took forever to get our order, by the time he was ready he already took our menu away before coming back. In which he had to go back and grab it for us because clearly how could we remember the prefix menu. We didn't finish our last course until 2 hours later. I've seen Mrs Fish on a lot of social media post and let me say it was just as great in person. The food was good, I really enjoyed all the dishes I had. I came for a birthday party and I'm not sure if it's a great idea to host a party here. Our server was very lackluster and I'm sure it's because he knew he was getting a tip regardless due to party size (12 people). I don't think the tables water cups were refilled once, dishes came out in waves I mean big waves like half the table finished meals and drinks and the other half just getting food (sushi included) dropped off to the table. Food and drink was a 4 star for sure but service and experience put this review at a 3 star. The ambiance was nice but a little dark and I'm sure it was due to how late (8:45pm start time) the service started. Reservations were at 9:30 but we got there early and they were able to seat us at the lounge area next to the bar. I have to say that upon walking downstairs it definitely smelled a little too strongly of fish. (A little bit of a turn off). There was a main bar downstairs but I caught a glimpse of the small bar upstairs that looked cute. Uni was fresh!) Cocktails (overall good, but a little sweet for my taste) Hattori Hanzo Kiyomi Kiri Midori I appreciate the variety of food options, from snacks to entrees, with a lot of non-seafood options available for those who don't like it. Based on our order, I would say everything is gonna be pretty good at the very least. We saw a lot of people on dates, big parties and families. I think it can be a great option for a casual date night or large groups. A pretty versatile place in general. I think I'd likely come back again to try more of the menu. Oh my god the place is so die for. I took my bf here because he loves anything marine life related and he was in awe. Beautiful scenery, the fish tank was smaller than imagined, it's just above the bar and that's it. There's cute art displayed on the walls, the restaurant was clean and the waiters were nice and the busboy made sure to grab the empty glasses/plates quickly without disturbing anything. I would recommend making reservations if you plan on dining on a weekend. I would recommend anything I added pictures of... ALL THE ROLLS TASTED SO FRESH!! I had the rainbow roll and kaisen roll and they were FRESH! Basically melted in my mouth, so yummy! The chicken skewer disappeared after it got to the table it was perfectly seasoned and crispy. I also ordered their miso which was good and I was content they weren't stingy with the seaweed, and the marinated cucumbers is their take on tajin/lime juice on cucumbers which was still a yummy appetizer *not pictured*. If you go to Mrs. Fish and prefer sweeter drinks, please try the Yuki and Hana drinks they were sweet and easy to drink, basically tasted like no alcohol but in a good way. The OTONANO AMASA was good but you can definitely taste the green tea so if that's your vibe I would recommend it. The only issue I had was there was broken glass next to my chair which had gotten stuck on my dress so I had to call over someone to pick it up but other than that, I can't wait to come back! The food is phenomenal! The fish is very fresh. They had good cucumber salad and crispy tuna rice. I also really liked the salmon lemon roll they had, it did not overpower anything and all of the ingredients came together in a delightful way. TLDR: Cool underground vibe with a DJ on weekends @ 8PM, parking is horrible, service is just okay, famous fish tank is underwhelming, but some dishes like the skirt steak skewer and Oyabun roll are solid - not worth a special trip I came with high hopes because of the "largest fish tank in LA's restaurant," but it fell short--barely any fish were inside. We had a reservation and were seated quickly. After asking for a more private spot, the waiter kindly moved us to another section, but from there, the service was mediocre at best. The ambiance is very LA nightlife: located underground with a DJ who starts around 8 PM on weekends. It's trendy but nothing groundbreaking. Parking in DTLA is always tricky, and Mrs. Fish doesn't make it easier with no dedicated lot. Valet parking is available at the front for $14. As for the food, we ordered several dishes to share. The standouts were: -Skirt Steak Skewer: three skewers, cooked tender and medium-rare, with a sauce that elevated the flavors -Oyabun (Wagyu Specialty Roll): real lobster (no imitation here!) and generously portioned. -Chika Mocktail: ginger-forward, almost like kombucha--great if you love ginger, though it might be too strong for some. Unfortunately, the larger entrees and overall experience weren't impressive.
