    Chicken katsu don
    Naomy V.

They have a good deal on the chicken katsu don as it costs 10$ for it. I grabbed it for a quick lunch and it was tasty. I wasn't waiting for it very long and has a good umami taste.

Located in the Mitsuwa food court. Quick service udon, tempura, and skewers. Any fancier orders, they give you a buzzer to pick up your food afterwards. Just grab a tray, go down the line, order, and then grab any tempura or yakitori/etc. skewers that you like. There's also plates and little to go boxes. Very efficient and no extra bells and whistles attached. Workers are polite and also very quick as well. Makes sense since the food court gets quite busy. Casual ambiance. After checking out, there's a small cart of sauces, condiments, and utensils to the side. When you're done eating, you return your tray and dishes to the little window between Mugimaru and Yamari. For my lunch, I got the: 1) Kitsune Udon: -I got this regular size, which was already pretty filling. Comes with generous amount of green onions and tempura bits. -Decent broth, noodle texture wasn't the best and didn't really take in the flavor of the soup. The aburaage tofu was sizeable and that part of the dish was pretty good. -This is my usual go to dish if I have to gauge how an udon place is before diving into their other dishes. 2) Chicken Thigh, Sausage, and Onion and Chicken Skin Skewers: -Of all of them the sausage one was the best, and you can't really mess it up since it's pre-cooked sausage meat. Portion on this one was a bit small, but understandable. -I cannot tell the difference between the 2 cuts of chicken, which is pretty bad to be honest. Very dry even after being drenched in teriyaki sauce. -With this eatery also being a "toritetsu" this isn't a good look. Overall, I'd skip. There's so many other dining options in the food court, that you can get in Mitsuwa, that you can get at the all, or just Japanese food in general in this area.

My go to spot if I'm ever at Del Amo. Honestly their cheesy chicken katsu is a must try. No matter how busy it is, the food always comes out quickly. They also have a great point system so you get rewarded with free stuff for coming regularly.

Ambiance: it's a noodle store located inside the Mitsuwa grocery store Service: you place and grab the order for noodles at the same windows, everything else either self served or at cashier counter Food: their menu has variety choices for undo noodles, with side dishes like tempura Beef Udon - **** classic, hot udon noodles served with beef slices, green onions, and flakes, recommend Chicken Tempura - *** plain taste Sweet Potato Tempura - **** crispy, recommend Price: moderate protons and affordable prices, expect $15+ for a fulfilling meal

Food: solid Spicy Tonkotsu Udon, Yakitori, Tempura & Cheese Chicken Katsu Don; Spicy Tonkotsu broth seemed like they added a Tabasco Service: made-to-order service for the udon & katsudon, but the yakitori & tempura are pre-made and you can select them as you go thru the line Design: inside a fairly new food court in Mitsuwa Overall: if you want a good udon & donburi combo, then go check out this spot at the Del Amo Fashion Center

Udon place located inside Mitsuwa Market Food Court. It was lunch time and the short line moved quickly, well prepared for the lunch crowd! They had a lot of different Tempura pieces to grab in addition to ordering your plate. Very tempting while you waited! I ordered the Chicken Katsu and Curry plate. I grabbed a few pieces of Sweet Potato Tempura. Chicken Katsu was good, not amazing. Curry was excellent, nicely spiced, carrots for texture, and a little bit of a kick! Served on rice. Tempura was very good! Service was fast and friendly. There are plenty of tables to dine, shared with the other places in the foot court. There was plenty of easy parking but I would guess weekends may get busy. It's on the backside of the Del Amo Mall.

AMBIENCE: (5/5) - I love myself a food court in a supermarket or mall, something about it just brings me back to my childhood. And I also love that you can get a bit of everything from different places - Very clean - Plenty of tables/chairs & things are cleaned up right away, no dirty dishes taking up tables - Like that they have an outdoor area with shade SERVICE: (5/5) - Line moves very quickly - Everyone was polite overall FOOD/DRINKS: (3/5) - Kake Udon #1 (3/5): The soup base was very good, mild and not too salty but can be a little one-note. Needed something to spice it up a bit. The udon was overcooked just slightly. Overall though great deal for the ~$5. Filled me up and did the job. - Sweet Potato & Squash Tempura (4/5): Nice layer of breading although it tasted just a bit too oily when I first bite into them. OVERVIEW: (5/5) - Good stop to grab some food after grocery shopping. It won't be the best udon you can get but its low cost and convenience makes up for it.

Food was good and service was fast. Tho it was busy we didn't have trouble getting a take. I like the $6 mini bowl add on option.

The food court at Mitsuwa is one of my favorite. Mugimaru is one of my favorite spots at my favorite food court because of their yakitori and tempura offerings. It can be a four-star restaurant for me if I'm lucky enough to get my meats and tempuras freshly prepared; however, it is often a three-star experience for me when the foods have been sitting around. Nevertheless, I really love being able to have yakitori skewers here and you can sometimes get the smokey charcoal flavor when they're freshly prepared. If you want to get full, make sure you get a side of white rice at the cashier and you can get your fill for your lunch. This place also sells Japanese curry and Udon; however, I haven't really tried these items from here. Overall, I really like coming here; but whether or not my experience is three or four stars depends on how freshly prepared the food offerings are.

    Beef udon

Udon and tempura inside of the Mitsuwa market that's part of the Del Amo plaza. This is my go to udon spot. Very satisfying, casual, and comfortable. Prices are on the lower end. Service has always been really good. You just tuck your tray and plates into the window for them to clean afterwards. The beef udon is so good - broth is really nice and beef is cooked just right. I've found that marugame (the other udon place) overcooks their beef and there's a clear difference so I really appreciate that. The noodles are chewy and absorb the broth well. Sometimes maybe slightly overcooked but not enough for me to not enjoy. Eggplant and shrimp tempura are my favorite.

    Kyla R.

I enjoyed their Udon. Kind of wished it came with an egg. The broth was light and not too salty. The tempura was yummy. The onigiri rice ball had too much rice, wished it had more of the salmon.

Specializing in Udon and Yakatori, Mugimaru (located in the Mitsuwa Japanese grocery in Torrance, CA) serves up good bowls of udon for a great value. We arrived in the food court of Mitsuwa around 7 pm on a Thursday night, and many of the stalls were already closed. Mugimaru was still open (though it closed soon after 7:30), so we got meals for the three of us. It is cafeteria style, where you get in line and choose from overhead menus. The yakatori and tempura are available to grab while walking through the line, and the udon bowls are prepared while in line. Thus by the time we sat down in the food hall, we were ready to eat and didn't need to wait for anything. Large Beef Curry Udon ($11.20) - a very filling meal, with plenty of thick udon noodles swimming in a light Japanese curry sauce. It was topped with thin slices of beef (the kind used in sukiyaki), green onions, and panko. It's a good sauce, and would go well with rice dishes as well. Regular Ontama Udon ($7.95) - classic bowl of japanese noodles, using a simple dashi broth and inclusion of a poached egg. Mini Sukiyaki Don ($5.45) - rice bowl, topped with thin slices of grilled marinated beef. Yakatori - I grabbed a tsukune (chicken meatball skewer for $2.35) and a chicken tempura ($2.25). Both tasted as expected, a bit greasy and lukewarm since they had been sitting out to be chosen for a bit. Salmon Onigiri ($1.99) - got two of these, and it's an easy way to include rice in your meal. They did use the typical onigiri plastic wrap, but I don't think it was assembled correctly, requiring me to unwrap the whole thing before it could be eaten. They sell bottles of soda ($2.40). If you sign up for their email club, the first order is 20% off which my daughter took advantage of.

Stopped by Mugimaru + Toritetsu inside Mitsuwa Marketplace for some Japanese food court classics. We got the Spicy Tonkotsu Udon, Beef Udon, Chicken Katsu Curry, a bunch of tempura, and some yakitori. The Spicy Tonkotsu Udon was definitely the highlight for me -- solid flavor and a good kick. Tempura was really well done, crispy but not greasy, and the yakitori didn't disappoint, especially the chicken meatball and chicken skin skewers. The Chicken Katsu Curry was filling and hit the spot, nothing over the top but solid. Overall, it's quick, affordable, and just an easy spot if you're in the area and want a variety of Japanese comfort foods without any fuss.

The private booths alone made me feel like I was signing a secret business deal, except the only thing I was negotiating was how much more food I could fit into my stomach. Every dish came out looking like it had been through a glow‑up montage. So delicious! * Unagi -- Melted in my mouth like it had a personal vendetta against being solid. Sweet, buttery, and dangerously addictive. * Katsu -- Crispy enough to be heard across the booth. If this dish had a crunchy Japanese category, this would be the headliner. * Spicy tuna -- The perfect balance of heat and flavor. Not "call the fire department" spicy, but definitely "I see you trying to impress me" spicy. * Seared tuna, Elegant, silky, and so fresh it probably had plans later. * Uni pasta, Listen... this dish is a commitment. Creamy, ocean‑kissed, and luxurious. It's the kind of pasta that makes you sit back and reevaluate your life choices, in a good way. * Sake - WOW ...My delicious sake was smooth, floral, and paired with everything like it had studied my taste buds in advance. The staff here operate with polite ninja efficiency. They appear, refill, deliver, and disappear before you can even say "arigato." Not rushed, not pushy, just clean, respectful Japanese hospitality that makes you feel taken care of. "Always remember the energy you give....is the energy you get in return!" The private booths are the star of the show. Cozy, warm lighting, and enough privacy to talk chisme without worrying about the table next to you judging your life choices. It's intimate without being cramped, like a little wooden cocoon of comfort. Kagura is one of those Torrance gems that hits every category: authentic food, quiet comfort, top‑tier service, and dishes that make you want to come back before you've even left the parking lot, oh and let me remind you how small that parking lot is, be prepared. The food highlights were easily the gobo chips and the skewers. The gobo chips arrived as an impressive, light-as-air mound dusted with seaweed seasoning... super crisp, savory, and addictively easy to snack on. The pork and wagyu skewers were masterfully executed as well, coming off the grill tender, juicy, and packed with rich, smoky flavor. The toasted eihire (stingray/filefish) was another great traditional touch, perfectly chewy and ideal for dipping in the spiced Japanese mayo my favorite.. On the flip side, a few dishes lacked the depth I was hoping for. The chicken karaage was fried well, but the flavor itself was a bit bland and needed more seasoning or marination and soft. The pressed rice rolls also fell flat, particularly the mentaiko roll.. it felt skimpy on the cod roe, and because the mentaiko seemed cooked through, it missed that fresh, raw texture and punchy brine that makes the dish shine. As for the space, it's quite dark, compact, and packed tightly with tables, which makes it feel a bit cramped when it's busy. However, seeing the dining room constantly full tells me that their best dishes keep people coming back. While there were some inconsistencies in taste, the highlights made it a solid experience, and I'm looking forward to returning to try more of the menu and updating my score!

We chose Ise-Shima at the Miyako Hotel for an early birthday celebration with my parents, wife,…read morechildren, sister and nephews. It should have been an easy win. The room is beautiful. The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.
