This restaraunt is dang near hidden. I would have not found this hole in the wall had in a million years if it wasn't for Yelp. But with that said, the food is the delicious! The Munchies burger, named after the restaraunt (obviously), is the go to burger if you want the best this restaraunt has to offer. Fries were unsalted but tasted good as well with a few of the ketchup packets readily available at the table. Now I've never seen restaraunt have fried avocados on the menu; it was on the menu with fried pickles, fried mushrooms, etc. Had to try it out and I was pleased with several pieces of sliced avocado fried with a cup of ranch to go with it. Initial impression, pics looked good online. Food selection had a variety of non traditional San Antonio snack foods. Upon walking in the building was run down and it seemed a little dirty and beat up. Unclear on whether tibsitnor order at the counter. We sat. We guessed correctly. Single person running the register, taking orders, and keeping the place tidy. She hustled though. She brought us menus took our drink orders in a fairly timely manner. Kept it simple. Sweet teas. She informed us they were out of brisket and pork. Its 630 pm, they close at 8pm, and they had plenty of other items to select from. Even though this is a pet peeve of mine it's forgiveable considering those factors. Again, The pics taken by patrons online looked really good. Food: Fried pickles were exceptional. The breading was just right. Flaky and not too greasy. Bacon cheeseburger was slightly above average. The bun was really good. The beef gave it a homemade flavor which is a good thing. Not too greasy which is very good. The bacon was lacking. Small and broken ( really crispy, like bacon bits) but tasted good. Fries: decent seasoning. Felt like they could have been fresher, but at the same time not cold, so decent. No Ketchup Bottles, only packets. Service: very good and polite. Their fried mushrooms and pickles are my favorites, their burgers aren't bad, but not really a stand out, although I do appreciate the customization if you are willing to spend a little extra, their burger deal 4 burgers, 4 fries for 20 bucks is good if you want to save. The staff by my experience has been friendly, even helped my mom get her keys from her locked van! The burger and fries were massive, especially for the price, and everything was seasoned well - the veg was fresh cold and crispy and the burger hot and melty - the bun was grilled on the flat top - it was as good as burgers get - then he drizzled chili on each bite and said it was crazy good. I got the fish sandwich and holy wow - its way bigger than I was expecting and was only able to eat half - but it was so good. The fish was crispy in all the right places and flaky in the middle. some lemon and their magical tartar sauce - and it really hit the spot. The fries were seasoned well but I couldn't put the fish sandwich down so not much room left for fries. The best part? For the amount of food that touched a fryer - nothing was greasy. Nothing worse than picking up a piece of food and it took half of the fryer with it - everything was fried well and left the grease in the fryer where it belongs. If you don't leave Munchies feeling full and satisfied (that includes your wallet) you might be doing it wrong. The menu has burgers, hot dogs, bbq items, and bar food type appetizers, that are about bar food quality. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, and we're told they didn't have it, then tried for a chicken fried beef plate. Again, they didn't have it. So we decided to just get a snack of frito pie and some fried pickles. The fried pickles were crisp and delicious, and the frito pie was, well, frito pie.
