    Shower mold
    Matthew S.

There was mold in the shower that they half-cleaned only the next day after I complained. And the cleaning staff came specifically during a time window when I asked them not to. Loud rooms--you can hear every car door and next-door neighbor. Weird lighting. Crappy carpets. To top it all off, the management was extremely rude. Kept interrupting me and trying to talk over me, accusing me of just wanting a refund, when I had made clear I would like at most a partial refund, but more than anything for the complaints to be heard. If this had been a fairly cheap hotel, it would be fine. But they charge a relatively high price and pretend they're a nice place. AVOID!

Decent for pricing Rooms in Monterey are quite pricey... we booked it very last minute as our planned changes quite drastically. We got the king bed with the fire place. Having the fire place really made the experience better! Parking is tight but they do provide FREE breakfast from 8-10am. Which was very nice of them. Staff were also so nice AND we were able to see a small snippet of the water from our corner room! The outside of the Inn looked very dicey but the inside wasn't too bad! I definitely would come back!

Beautiful, spacious room, huge window with a tiny view of the ocean on a clear day!

Spacious, beautiful room with high sloped ceiling made this space feel huge...(it was). More like a suite and extremely clean! Largest window I've ever seen in a hotel! Quiet at night, comfortable beds (tons of lovely pillows) view of ocean in distance between buildings. Only suggestion: have more drawer space or couple luggage racks. We used the massive ottoman...No elevator was no problem. Staff was helpful, so kind and had lots of good info! Nice simple breakfast in office. Would definitely stay here again!!! Just fabulous!

Decent 2 star hotel - we reserved the accessible room which is on the first floor, so the rooms aren't as pretty as the upper floor ones with the vaulted ceilings, but we were still satisfied with the accommodations. Fireplace in the room was a nice touch. Accessible bathroom with roll-in shower was clean, roomy, good shower heads. Drains were a bit mildewy smelling, but that might be normal for the area given how damp everything is. Staff at the front desk was super nice and pleasant. Due to covid, breakfast is in a to-go bag that had a piece of fruit (orange or apple), bag of instant oatmeal and a bowl, and a danish. You also get to pick a bottle of juice. There's a keurig in the room with 4 pods (2 decaf 2 caf) and the lobby had hot chocolate, tea, and more coffee too. Check the fridge in the room - it turned out that ours didn't close all the way, but unfortunately I didn't notice until after a full night so I had a lot of food go bad :(. I did alert the front desk afterward, but I wish I had checked more carefully. Overall decent, good proximity to the touristy areas and to Dennis the Menace playground, though I found it to be a tad expensive for fairly bare bones 2 star. I'd consider staying here again in the future though.

It's more like your typical 3.7-3.8 rating for a casual apartment type feeling here. Old buildings. There's room for improvement. Very comfortable place to stay and convenient for walking to downtown Monterey. Low key area. Decent prices with deals that can turn into $90-$110 per night. Quiet parking lot onsite. Free complimentary grab and go Costco/Kirkland type pastries, cereal, fruits, and organic fruit juices/coffee in the tiny lobby daily. Very small lobby, but rooms are generously spacious with cozy fireplace. Everyone minds their own business here and it's not far from the shopping outlets and Cinemark/Century movie theater. Staff was friendly. Only thing I disliked was the hair dryer in our room. It was a 1/5 rating because hair dryer was nearly busted, sticky/dirty to the hands, and not too functional. They really need to replace that thing. Microwave and refrigerator plus cups and coffee maker included were very clean. Bathroom decent with very good water pressure in shower area. Room was unique! Loved the interior. Nice upgraded lights. Closet and bathroom sink were small. We enjoyed the stay because it was very close walking distance to medical appointment offices too. Not bad for staying in Monterey for a few days. Cozy bed and soft clean linens for sure. Fireplace helps in the room. Slept very well here. Very walkable. Enjoyed the stay.

The location is key as you can walk right down to cannery row to access restaurants, shopping, and entertainment including the aquarium. Furthermore, the gym and hot tubs on the 5th floor are superb. The lobby has an older, vintage feel to it, which gave it some charm. Unfortunately, the check in experience wasn't the best. The front desk receptionist wasn't very friendly or welcoming, so it didn't exactly start our trip on a positive note. Our room with two queen beds was pretty standard, but it was clean and had a beautiful view overlooking the water, which was definitely the highlight. The service throughout our stay was pretty disappointing. I called the front desk to ask for extra bath towels, and after waiting 30 minutes with nothing delivered, I had to call again. They finally arrived another 20 minutes later, which seemed way too long for such a simple request. The shower was also confusing because the hot and cold labels were reversed, and the water pressure was extremely weak. Neither of those things ruined the trip, but they definitely made the stay less enjoyable. We also ordered room service around 7:30pm. Jerry, who took our order, was very friendly and told us it would take about 45 minutes. An hour later there was still no food, so I called back around 8:45. Jerry apologized, checked on the order, and said it would be another 10 minutes before offering to personally bring it up. I appreciated his effort, but waiting well over an hour for room service was frustrating. To make matters worse, they already charge a service fee and then tack on an additional 20% service charge. The food wasn't worth the wait either. The ceviche lacked flavor and the portion was tiny, the ahi tuna wraps were just okay and didn't taste very fresh, and the Wagyu burger was dry and underwhelming. The fries were probably the best thing we ordered. Overall, I don't see myself staying here again, and next time I'd rather book the InterContinental instead.

We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back!…read moreThe staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. When we decided to extend our stay by an extra night, our harbor-view room wasn't available for the additional night, but they went out of their way to make it work so we didn't have to switch rooms. We really appreciated that! Parking was also very reasonably priced at $25, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. The location, views, comfortable rooms, and outstanding customer service made for a wonderful experience.

This was our second time staying in Monterey and I had been looking forward to staying at this hotel someday. It was everything I imagined and more! The service was exceptional from the valet to the bellhop to registration and restaurant staff. We are also IHG elite members and we were given a room upgrade with a thoughtful card and gift for our anniversary. Our room was facing the ocean on Cannery Row with a balcony. It was a very nice, spacious and clean room with alot of thoughtful attention like providing refillable water bottles, robes and an amazing Nespresso machine. There was also a wine bar and snacks available for purchase. The hotel had a wonderful scent throughout and we enjoyed walking through the ocean vibes staircase featuring a jellyfish. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. I still gave them 5 stars because they rectified it right away and even removed the valet charge for us, which was much appreciated. I would love to come back to this hotel someday to bring my parents and we hope you love it too!!

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a warm charm that made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

The interior is also gorgeous, and it's amazing how well they've kept up the history of this place. We stayed in a queen suite, which was very outdated. Because of how old the buildings are, there is no A/C, which is typically fine, but we happened to be there on one of the warmest days of the year. Our room had an odd smell to it, and the amenities are pretty minimal. However, we expected this due to the age of the building. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am. I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.
