In town with my family of 4 for a funeral. Arrived last night and the check-in process was super fast and easy. I asked the lady if the room we got was one of the remodeled ones and she assured us it was and that all of the rooms have now been remodeled. Upon entering the room we were all surprised at how nice it was. The lights are bright and everything is brand new. Vaulted ceilings, big tv, microwave, small refrigerator, fireplace, and lots of space! My kids said the beds were the best beds they've ever jumped on. It's too firm for me and not very comfortable to sleep on. Other than that it's a great room for a great price! We will definitely stay here again. read more

One of the nicer motels on Munras, good for the price (weekday rates are significantly lower than weekends). Stayed here for a week long work trip. I was upgraded to a delux King room, which is pleasant--high wooded ceiling and nice decor. Location is convenient, near DelMonte Mall and a few miles from the beach. Fairly quiet and okay service. The reasons I didn't give it 5 stars: the bed needs a better mattress and pillows for optimal comfort, as the current ones were rather lumpy; this wouldn't matter much for a short stay but important for people with back issues who stay there for more than a night; there is a slight mildew smell to the rooms, which could be because of the Monterey climate (often foggy) and due to the age of the building (it has been remodeled recently but it has old plumbing); and it could be generally a bit cleaner (maybe a deep steam cleaning, especially in Covid times). Otherwise, I would recommend to everyone who is looking for something easy, simple and affordable. The fireplace is a nice touch, and staff is accommodating (ask if you need extra coffee or towels). If you want luxury, book a $400 a night room on Cannery Row. read more

It was great! I informed them that it was our anniversary and the covered the bed with rose petals and we got a great room! I loved the decor and the vaulted ceiling! They provide a complimentary continental snack too. You pay once you check in so make sure you mention ANY discounts at that point because your card will already be charged once you check out. I tried to use my AAA card at check out but it was too late. The only thing strange thing is there's no room phone but other that, I would definitely recommend this hotel and would totally return. read more

We've stayed in a few hotels since Covid and have always had a really good experience. In those places it was obvious that staff was taking every precaution to keep things clean and as enjoyable as possible under the circumstances, at times even sticker sealing the room doors to indicate that the room had been untouched since cleaning. Not so with Munras Inn. We arrived at about 11:30 to see if we could check in. The manager wasn't all that polite in that initial encounter. He simply said "we don't have any rooms". I said "but we have a reservation for tonight". He responded that rooms weren't made up yet and that check-in was strictly at 3pm. OK, that's different than not having any rooms and that's normal policy for hotels, but we rarely have to wait until true check in time anywhere we have stayed in the past. But whatever; we left to see some sights and to burn some time. We returned at 2pm to find several people checking in, so we tried again. The manager told us the room was ready, so we grabbed our key and went up to settle in. First impression of the room was not very inspiring. It was true to the pictures in the booking site (I will say that), but the detail was what was disappointing. First of all, it was dirty for a $200/night room most would expect differently of. We found a half-eaten cookie and crumbs in one of the drawers (gross!) Finger prints and stains everywhere. Spatters on the walls, ceilings and drapes. The two windows were dirty and in obvious disrepair. One of the window screens was pulled out and about to fall to the first floor. The view was odd, too - a residential backyard that was trashed with overgrown weeds and garbage everywhere. The valance lighting surrounding the room was fabricated out of painted unfinished cheap wood complete with cheap bright white LED lights that did nothing for the mood. We paid extra for the deluxe King and don't know why we did. The only difference we could see between it and the standard was a large empty space next to the bed where a couch would have been nice. But nope. Not even wall art. So odd... The fireplace didn't work, so we had to have the manager come up and get it going. That is one nice feature of these rooms. We did enjoy the fire. Lastly, the bed was old and lumpy, as were the broken-down pillows that we wouldn't even hand down to the kids for use at home. Not comfortable at all. After settling in with my lady for the night, we began to hear the sounds of loud partying in the other rooms on our floor. Now, we're no prudes and like a good party, but this was out of control. Not wanting to cause a scene and hoping it would die down on its own, we just kept our mouths shut until the loud music, yelling and sounds of vomiting at 2am were more than we could take. Tried calling reception several times to no answer. The partying went on until 5:30am. We got very little sleep. At checkout, I told the manager what had happened and he was only mildly apologetic telling me I could have called his cell phone number which is posted on the door of the office. But the door of the office, mind you, is a brisk walk down the outdoor stairs and across the parking lot and we would have had to luck upon it because we were not informed of office hours or its existence at check in. Not something we feel we should have had to do at 3am, anyway. Seems setting up an after office voice recording with that info wouldn't be that hard to do. Recommend looking elsewhere. read more

We stayed here for one night this past weekend and it was such an easy check in/check out process. The room was spotless and spacious and the bed was super comfortable. Our hot water wasn't working initially, but we called the font desk and they fixed it immediately. The location was close enough to all of the tourist-y spots that we were able to just Lyft it everywhere. Great hotel for a great price. I'll definitely be back here if we ever take a mini vacation that way again. read more

I agree, DONT STAY HERE!! I saw this place on Expedia for $98 and it was conveniently close to the aquarium... There was definitely other places I was considering but the reviews and pictures of the fireplace, king bed and the "spacious" room won me over. My room was SMALL! everything seemed very crowded especially the BULKY ELECTRIC "FIREPLACE" and old TV. I think it was cause I booked it through a discount site. When I told the lady that this wasn't what I expected she said she had no other rooms left. This was at 5pm with plenty of parking spots left which later became overpacked. Room is definitely outdated! Floor looked really dirty as if it was never mopped. Thin blanket/comforter. Very bulky furniture. There was rotting ice cubes in the freezer? Outdated. Small room. Dirty looking hallway. Dirty floor. Dirty chairs. Just dirty! False dicriptions! Very little and tiny parking spots.You can clearly hear what's going on in the hallway. Yikes!! The following is a long story made short. The front desk gentleman changed our room after me and my husband found out we were sleeping with bugs. I wanted to go to another hotel but they were all booked and we were exhausted from traveling very late at night(Plus Munras do not give refunds). I could not sleep all night in the other room because I kept thinking about the bugs that might be in the bed again crawling on me and in our suitcase. The manager gave us a 10% discount off. I had a big room with vaulted ceilings and a gas fireplace everything else was poor to bad. The mattress was horrible There was a big window with no curtain The room was not insulated especially around the door and cold air was blowing into my room I took one of my two towels and used it to try to block the cold air blowing in from under the door the small heater took a couple hours to hear my room up no extra blanket. Stay: May 18 - May 21 Was in town for the Cal State Monterey Bay Graduation. As you all may know, lodging in Monterey is high any given Sunday. Now, add the inflation to a big weekend like graduation or the start of a new semester and the prices are absurd. I, luckily, booked in advance and got somewhat of a deal. I used Hotels.com and managed to score a Double Queen Suite w/Fireplace for about $180 per night. The price difference between the fireplace suite and the closet tiered room isnt that much, youll be glad you spent the extra money. Munras Inn is really close to the great parts on Monterey: Fishermans Wharf, Cannery Row, etc. A quick walk or uber ride and you are in the heart of all that is hip and happening in Monterey. Munras Inn is sorta hard to find.... I passed it up on the first go round. There is no big neon sign...so be on the look out, or look like a stalker constantly hitting u-turns inn the middle of the street like I did. OK........So, the one bad thing. That damn parking lot. Look, Linda...Listen...When I tell you this parking lot is a set up. Its one way in, one way out. Which isnt that big of a deal. BUT...its narrow and twists and turns. Baby, Im sure some of those cars got dents from that damn parking lot. Check-in was great and easy. Its also where they have their complimentary breakfast every morning. They have packaged pastries, breakfast sandwiches, cereal, yogurt, fruit and a plethora of juices. Oh, and the juices come in full size bottles. No, measly sips here. You can really quench your thirst lol. The room was amazing. Honestly. It was decorated very modern, sleek and sexy. The beds were comfy and the high ceilings were a nice touch. Honestly, the room is really big. I was in room 16. From what I hear, its one of the bigger rooms in the area. The bathroom was clean and spacious also. Id stay here in a heartbeat. We had a great stay at the Munras Inn! We were hesitant at first after reading some of the negative reviews, but our stay was pleasant and we found the room to be cozy and charming. The location is also fantastic, walking distance (10 minutes) from Alvarado street where a cluster of shops, breweries, and bars are located. The room is nicely decorated with a fireplace. The only negative is that the towels are very thin and there are no room slippers provided. However, those things are minor for the value you get. read more

I am SO happy I booked this hotel room. I booked through Priceline for a discount but even regular priced rooms are pretty reasonably priced. This hotel has just renovated all of it's rooms and the one we stayed in was amazing. I LOVED the decor and the high ceilings. We also had a fireplace (which kind of didn't work very well, but the ambiance was really all we cared about). The bathroom was super clean and roomy, and the room itself felt huge. The bed was really comfortable too. The staff were great...super friendly and helpful. I will 100% be back to this hotel on our next trip to Monterey. read more

I loved this hotel!!!! It was super clean, everything was sparkling white. The shower was huge white marble. The fireplace was also a really nice touch. Breakfast in the morning was coffee, juices, muffins, and breakfast sandwiches , oatmeal/ cereal which you could put on a tray to bring to your room. The heater at night worked great. The only wierd thing was the cracks on the walls at night and some kind of wierd noise that would come on and off like an ice machine or something?.. other than that, this hotel is such a little gem for the price and the workers were extremely nice! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night and it was way beyond what we had expected. We booked the two queen room as it was the last room available on booking.com. When we got there, the man working the front desk asked us if we'd like a king suite (room 13) instead for the same price. We were shocked when we walked into a newly renovated, beautiful and spacious room. Large window taking up an entire wall but thick curtains to close over it, exposed wood ceilings, brand new carpet, flat screen TV, clean and modern. All the staff we dealt with were very pleasant. The only downside was the super bright LED lights in the bathroom and we weren't able to access HBO with the remote. I would stay here again and after posting pictures on instagram and Facebook, I have all my friends asking where this place is so they can stay there when they come next time. read more

I thought i wrote a review on here but i guess not haha anyways i stayed here with my boyfriend in April for 1 night and i already knew by pictures how awesome the inside is but he had no idea and when we walked in the room he was like ohhh whaaaaaaat?!?! The room was impressive. High celings, flat screen tv, a fireplace, a comfty bed. He was like " this place looks nothing like the outside" im glad he liked it! Be very careful to read the fine print when booking through a third-party. The manager charged my card in full even when I cancelled in advance. I understand their are rules and regulations but my 250+ charge could easily have been returned; especially, after calling and explaining my situation. I know business is business but to not even budge and screw someone out of a lot of money is terrible. Hopefully it goes to good use. The outside of the hotel def doesn't do the inside of the rooms justice! My only complaints were I wish there were more full body towels and the bed was a bit firm. I stayed here for one night in both January and just this past weekend for a business trip. Both times I had a fantastic experience. Rooms are beautiful with gas fireplaces in each room. The first time I stayed here in January, I was on the first floor but it wasn't loud at all. The most recent time I stayed, I was on the second floor with gorgeous high ceilings. It was a corner room though, so I did hear people in the hallway coming and going but it wasn't enough of a bother that I would deduct any stars. Stayed here one night during the week long anniversary trip my boyfriend and I had planned. We got one of the bigger rooms with the patio and fireplace. I had mentioned on the site site booked the room on that it was our anniversary and to my surprise, we had a bed full of petals, a card, and candy waiting for us. I hadn't expected that, having paid a grand total of $87 for the room. It was dated, had a small, bulky tv, and the skylight that just lets the morning light pour in. Also, the bed was triple sheeted, but seemed to only have one very thin blanket in between and no extra blankets in the room. The breakfast was small and I only had oatmeal and a pastry. Overall, it wasn't a bad stay and the staff was very nice, but a good renovation would do wonders to this place! read more

I saw Munras Inn hotel on yelp while I was looking for a budget hotel to spend the last few days of summer in Monterey. At first I was a bit hesitant because there were only few reviews to rely on, but I was happy with my decision and book 2 rooms and 2 nights in this hotel. My husband and I traveled with our 2 little kids, I got 2 rooms because I have assumed that the rooms are going to be very small. To my surprise, both rooms we got are really larger than a typical budget hotel that my kids can literally run around. The rooms are nicely decorated, really made us feel that we are on a vacation. Only thing I noticed is that there's no flat screen TVs, but we didn't come here to watch TV but enjoy the outdoors with the kids! My room had a fireplace that didn't work (not a problem in summer). Also, the breakfast is pretty thin - continental only and no place to sit and eat. You need to bring it back to your room. I was a bit nervous booking this place because of the other reviews I read but I said what the heck. I'm really glad I did because this place not only met our expectations but exceeded them. When we arrived Abraham was at the front desk and was very friendly. We mentioned we would be going to the aquarium as we were getting checked in. About 5 minutes after we got to the room we received a call from Abraham asking how we liked the room and if we needed anything else. Very nice touch. I told him everything was great. He then called back a bit later and offered to purchase the tickets to the aquarium online so we could avoid the line. Another nice touch. We went down to the front desk that night and asked the women working if she could call us a cab to go to dinner. She did and while we waited we chatted and mentioned we were in town for my girlfriends birthday. The cab ride was around $8.50 down to cannery row. We also walked down the next day and it took about 40 minutes and was a nice walk. When we returned to our room the next evening they had chocolates, the bed decorated with rose petals, and a card wishing my girlfriend a happy birthday. They went way above and beyond with this move and we couldn't be happier we stayed here. Abraham mentioned they plan to remodel in the next year. They have dated bathrooms, tube tvs, etc. we didn't mind these things though because after all we were in Monterey to be out doing things. Honestly wish I had a better experience here. Stopped at the Munras on a road trip after seeing the pictures online and the lower price then most other places in Monterey. Unfortunately was placed in a room that looked nothing like the updated rooms shown in the pictures which are all standard rooms. Some rooms haven't been updated and we were placed in one of those. The room was in a separate building, the door in the room hardly latched when closed, the room itself was quite outdated and felt like you were at a cheaper motel. Fireplace was a joke and barely lit a small flame, tiny TV and overly firm bed along with rocks for pillows. The staff was very friendly upon check in and small breakfast was provided in the lobby but very minimal. Wish we were told some rooms weren't updated. read more

Boo! - understandable though. Munras Inn had a vacancy so we swooped in. Pretty quickly though, we learned why the house wasn't full. This is a one-star joint that apparently recently underwent a low-budget makeover but is otherwise LOUD, crawling with ants, and devoid of any amenities making its inconvenient location worthwhile. Also, beware the parking lot, which is nearly impossible to maneuver in/out of without bottoming out/pulling a 20-point turn or giving up altogether and parking across the street. read more

I'm not a very picky person but I do like to feel comfortable & safe and know that I'm in a clean place. This place had it all. Close (and tight) parking, easy check in/out and very nice rooms.
