A year later I went back for brunch. No dying creatures nearby this time! We had a reservation and was seated pretty quickly. Our server Jordan was pretty attentive. I enjoyed my food. I made a meal out of a bunch of sides and everything except the eggs was spot on. The eggs were super salty. They were replaced, but they left the cheese off smh. Guess I can't win them all. My Irish cream coffee was fantastic and my mom enjoyed her food as well. Thankfully we had the gift card from the last visit so that covered the majority of the meal. This place is a new fave! In the heart of Virginia Highlands, you walk in this place to a wine bar with ample seating all around it. I had a Bloody Mary, complete with picked cauli, pearl onion, and pickle which was tasty -- apparently the brunch option is decked out (bacon etc), so I'll have to go back for that! There were MANY delicious options for lunch, and their app menu looked awesome (charred shishito peppers.. yum). I ended up getting the Fried Chicken sandwich, that had a nice aioli, picked onions and lettuce. The bread was buttered and toasted and it was a delicious bite! 8/10. I opted to swap the side it came with for the truffle Mac n'cheese for $2 extra (a deal because the side is normally $12) and it was amazing... creamy, cheesy, and with a solid truffle flavor, 9/10. Finished lunch with their famous tollhouse pie, essentially a cookie with Oreo crust and topped with vanilla bean ice cream -- yummy, but with all of the listed desserts, I'd probably try another one next time. This review is based on service only. Food was great! We were sat and after waiting 10 minutes for a server, we addressed this with the host and he got a server who came over and took our order. She was apologetic and nice but was never attentative. Our food came out and we had no silverware which took another few minutes for the silverware to arrive. I'm giving this place two stars because the waitress was actually nice and took care of us nicely, but this place was highly recommended by so many people, so I genuinely thought it was gonna be amazing. My coffee was good. It was a latte and the detail of the heart was beautiful because it was for our wedding anniversary breakfast. But the plate that I got I've had better chilaquiles. These were a little on the soggy side and it seem like they were all mashed up together. You could not really identify the difference between the corn tortilla and the sauce that's how soggy they were and to top it off I couldn't fully enjoy my food because when I took my second bite, I noticed that there was a hair in my food and the waitress was very nice and quickly change that and got another one put in but when they brought it to the table the second time. I did my best to eat it, but my stomach was just not feeling it and I felt like I was gonna throw up due to the hair in my food. So would I give this place another try probably not because of that experience but I'm glad that at least we went there and we experienced it for ourselves. I've been to Murphy's many times and for the first time, I noticed they had a wine store. You can purchase a wine bottle from the store and drink it at the table. Murphy's is a cute and quaint restaurant in the heart of The Virginia Highland neighborhood. It's a great place for a date or a birthday celebration. We went on St. Patrick's day and they had St. Patrick's days theme menu items. I got the classic brisket ($26) and my partner got the Corned Beef ($24). Everything was delicious. Second, valet parking is offered behind Murphy's at the Wells Fargo Bank. I want to say it's $2 if you have a reservation, but don't quote me for that price. Now to the good stuff! The patio ambience was amazing! I love that they had the fans blowing because y'all know how this Atlanta heat can be. They also had enough spacing for social distancing so that's always a plus as well. However, if you sit inside, they do have somewhat of a wine cellar if you will and an open kitchen. It was everything! Each food order (for brunch at least) comes with their delicious, melt in your mouth, homemade biscuits and a cornbread muffin. They also give you a variety of jams and butter to accompany. We opted for the Gran Mimosa, which consist of Grand Mariner and Orange juice and it's as good (and strong) as it sounds I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict with the side of house potatoes and my fiancé ordered the Chilaquiles. Everything was DELICIOUS! This is hands down one of our top places on our brunch list and I recommend you add it to yours as well! read more

We made a reservation two weeks ago for outdoor seating only to arrive and be told they Only reserve inside tables - outside is always first come first serve. Luckily I got there 20 mins before our reservation and the hostess was able to seat us outside without too much of a wait. Really yummy brunches & cocktails! Go for the executive mimosa if someone else is driving. My poached eggs highland was delicious but very small amount of spinich and mushrooms. Food: The food speaks for itself! The menu, while tight and no nonsense, embodies anything you may be craving (they even have a few vegetarian/vegan options.) I enjoyed the brisket which was flavorful and textured in all of the most perfect ways. The market dish was cooked to perfection. The portions were hearty but not overbearing Price: For the quality, I'd say that this restaurant found a perfect price point. The brisket was about $24 which, for the portion and taste was worth it! If you're balling on a budget which I definitely am, this may feel a little pricy, but for such a good meal I'd splurge. Atmosphere: trendy, casual, timeless. We sat on the porch which was gorgeous; however, the lights near us were not on and the heater near us was broken, so we actually had a hard time seeing anything. Murphy's, the omnipresent and iconic VA Highlands staple, has been on my list for years, but we never found the right time to go until a recent happy hour. While we enjoyed our time at their cozy bar, we ultimately failed to see what all the hype is about that keeps this spot packed weekend after weekend. A bit of a relic, this spot has an '80's fine dining feel that, while fun in a way, fails to compete with the recent crop of trendy spots that have sprung up in this neighborhood in recent years. We took a seat at their bar after perusing their cute wine shop (which itself warrants a return visit), and settled on drinks- admittedly delicious white wine for her and a nice, fragrant herbal martini for me. The drinks were nice, but our food failed to deliver. While the shishitos were good, the cheese plate was basic and a bit paltry, while the ricotta toast was a bit weird. Service was friendly, if not a bit scattered, and the place overall- from the stained napkins to the dirty bar top- just seemed a bit neglected. Murphy's certainly remains a place to see and be seen, but it might be a bit past its prime in terms of being a dining destination. read more

Ummm... I am struggling with this one. How many stars did it earn. Let's start with the good. Had the grilled artichoke. Good. The special of the day was sea bass with turnip greens and squash. Very delicious and well prepared and presented. I pinched several deserts from my companions. The key lime pie was very good. The taste appeared to be deliberately understated, which worked well. The bread pudding was okay. I'm a New Orleans girl and bread pudding is on the list of dishes we are kinda snobby about. I also tried the praline cheese cake, which was good. My fav was the key lime pie. Not to be missed. We were a large group and our server Rachel did a great job with getting all orders right and all food out at the same time... hot. She was very sweet in her response to my complaint. Which is why I am struggling with rating. I am disabled, temporarily, but nonetheless limited. This place has ONE handicap parking spot in an area with very limited parking. I ended up asking Wells Fargo if I could park in their lot. One handicap spot is just not right. Had I not been attending a work team meal, I would have left. Trying not to be irritated, but I am. The scarcity of handicap parking is atrocious and should be addressed by the local merchants. It pains me to write this review of this long-standing member of the Highlands, but we had an unexpected night away from the family & stopped in to see if we could grab a bite for dinner at Murphy's. Dining out these days is a gamble with the service industry being what it is. Tonight was one of those gambles we lost. Waited over 20 min for drinks to arrive. Salads arrived about 30 min after that. Kale salad had a nice flavor but was underdressed. Beet salad, while attractive, tasted like canned beets. We ordered small plates. They were just average. Nothing special. We asked for more bread to go with one of the plates bc what was provided didn't even cover 1/2 of the dish. It came about 20 min later, at which point we declined & asked for the check. Water was never refilled & glasses sat empty. Server would walk by & never make eye contact. We really enjoyed the burger and we topped it off with the tollhouse pie. The burger and fries is $17 and feels like a great deal for the area. (Many flavors offered for mimosa so don't worry all can be accommodated). Food- They start with biscuits, muffins, and bread assortment basket. The sides with it came with a strawberry jam, peach jam, and a cinnamon hinted whipped butter. All great or I was hungry. You know ya girl tried a few things. My main course was the chilaquiles !!! Baby if you are like me and love Mexican food. Look no further. I had my egg fried well as my only change but it was amazing and very filling. Probably one of the best lattes I've ever had. Sweet yet bold. Now, the food. Everything was absolutely delicious from start to finish! I don't think we had any leftovers, except maybe dessert.
