I have been wanting to try Southern Belle for awhile and I was impressed. The decor is a little vintage and a little kitschy - as if an adorable and eclectic dolls house had come to life. We had the seasonal vegetable salad with fennel "pollen" - a beautiful and delicious composed salad. Then we had the zucchini bread with chèvre and strawberries which was divine. I was still thinking about it the next day. And finally the crab stuffed trout with roasted asparagus and grits. I'm not really a fan of crab-stuffed anything so I probably should have ordered something else but it was still good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere is upscale but relaxed. If you can find parking in the lot, it is validated. read more

Big big fan, adding this to my list of go-to dinner spots. The restaurant was decked out for Christmas and felt so cozy. Our server gave great recs and surprised us with a complimentary glass of champagne since we were celebrating a birthday. For food, would highly recommend the seared scallops over pumpkin risotto (add the truffle). The lobster was super unique but I felt like the peppers wasn't evenly dispersed so some bites were shockingly spicy. Good flavor regardless. The caviar was great - the French onion dip kinda overpowered the caviar but we didn't mind because it was just that good. Also adored our black bottom pie - server topped it with a lil birthday candle which was a cute touch. read more

Parking validated by restaurant if you're lucky to get a spot in the lot. Gulf red snapper crudo - very spicy and the texture doesn't feel good - creamy coconut with slimy fish was not appetizing. Crispy pork belly - I had to actually send the dish back (first time I actually had to do in my many years of dining) because the meat portion was literally too hard to chew. Sad because the flavor was great so again a texture issue. Indian style shrimp and grits was solid! Recommend it. Amoreena NA Cocktail was also delicious. read more

I had been wanting to try this place for some time since I went to Georgia Boy and really enjoyed it. I came without a reservation but was easily able to be seated on a Thursday evening. This restaurant is only a few blocks away from us and I cannot believe it took us this long to try it. All meals are made from local farms around Georgia (and occasionally the surrounding states), and the menu apparently changes constantly. Very cozy but bright atmosphere with awesome flower arrangements on all of the tables. I saw another reviewer say "upscale but relaxed" and I think this fits. Wait staff was incredibly attentive but not overbearing, and Maliyah (our excellent waitress) had perfect recommendations for everything. The menu reads like a book, with "Chapter 1" being like appetizers, "Chapter 2" being larger plates, etc. Both cocktails were excellent. We were told that 3-4 plates would be sufficient for two of us. We had three "Chapter 2" plates which was a great amount of food (we weren't super hungry, so if we come back hungrier we might get 4 plates). We started with the Peach & Burrata Caprese which was filled with flavor but still refreshing. The "A-Town Burger" wasn't on the menu but we heard it was sometimes offered during the summer on Wednesday's & Thursdays - definitely recommend if it's available. Finally, we'd definitely recommend the Crispy Duck Leg Confit which came with homemade peach/ancho BBQ sauce, scallion ho cakes with goat cheese, and these awesome coffee/chocolate braised figs. We will absolutely return and can't wait to try more of the regular menu items (or hopefully their "Georgia Boy" tasting menu) in the future! read more

It makes me sad that I can't go back to Southern Belle after this terrible experience. My partner and I have historically enjoyed our date nights at Southern Belle. He has also taken guests here for work. This made it seem like a perfect spot for my birthday dinner with our families who came in from out of town. The main issues were the poorly designed acoustics and the impractical "family-style" service. The set up of the room and our large table made conversation impossible unless you were sitting right next to someone. This can be fixed with proper acoustic treatment of the room. When we've come previously, we were typically only a party of 2 to 4 and seated along the wall so we've never noticed how bad it is in the middle. When we asked to move to a quieter spot in the restaurant, we were not able to be accommodated. Our server told us everything was served "family style." He recommended sharing 12 dishes among 7 people. Following this advice ruined our experience. The plates were too small to share among 7 and most required someone at our table to spend about 5 minutes portioning out each dish. This resulted in splitting a single chanterelle into sevenths and having to order a second order of pork belly to feasibly cut it seven ways. When we asked if the kitchen could make the dishes more shareable, they refused. While I understand this this was impractical for the kitchen, it is also impractical for the guests. The server mentioned he would have gotten in trouble with management if he had NOT advised us to share one of everything. If the chef is adamant on having it be a sharing experience, better advice would have been to get 2 orders of 6 dishes as opposed to 1 order of 12 dishes. To add insult to injury, the $175 reservation was not deducted from my bill. It would have gone unnoticed if I hadn't called them the next week. The host was supposed to manually transfer it from the reservation system to the POS system, but they forgot. It was finally refunded 17 days after the meal. Other problems from the night included: No one ever asked to refill our drinks. My parents would have gotten a 2nd drink if they had been asked. I flagged down a server for a 2nd glass of wine. One dish came and went before I had to remind him. When it did come out, this glass was comped. We had a party of 7. When the first dish came out, there were only 6 plates on the table. I appreciated the periodic refreshing of the plates, but one change took so long, a dish came out while there were no plates so it sat for a couple minutes. Inconsistent dish explanations from the staff. Some people explained the dishes (which was appreciated) and others just set the dish down and walked away. This is not the service I expect at these prices. The food was mostly good however, the most expensive dish (the short rib, $51) was overly salted. For my birthday, they comped a single glass of prosecco after the check was paid. It was awkward because it meant I had to either drink alone while everyone waited or pass the glass. I would have preferred something for my entire party or nothing at all. If Southern Belle could have fixed the first two points, the last 7 would have been excusable. The staff clearly saw we were unhappy. They could have turned the experience around at any point by acknowledging the issues and suggesting a plan to remedy them. Instead, they seemed scared of us by the end of our meal. I'm really disappointed Southern Belle no longer offers that Southern Hospitality they built their brand on. I'm embarrassed to have brought people here. read more

I'm speechless! Except to say amazing. Had such a good experience here. Early bird dinner on a Friday night - we had the Red Snapper Crudo, the mushroom toast, corn and crab risotto, shrimp and grits, the cornmeal fried Carolina trout, and the shakshuka. Absolutely stunning food. The flavors - everything was perfect - delicate, creative, surprising, rich. Favorites were the Indian Style Shrimp and Grits and the Mushroom Toast. We didn't want this experience to end, so we also ordered 3 desserts. The summer blueberry Entrement being my favorite. Service was perfect. A whole team of lovely people waiting on us hand and foot. No fewer than 6 people stopping by the table periodically. Did someone just fold my napkin when I went to the bathroom? Yes, and I could get used to it. Ambiance is nice for a date or small gathering. We were there very early for a 5pm dinner, and the music was too loud for my nearly 80-yo father to hear (and was almost club-like). I mentioned it to the server and they kindly adjusted the volume down - it was perfect the rest of the time. All in all, wonderful experience. Stunning food. Don't miss this. read more

Very disappointed with our six top birthday dinner. The food was so-so, but very overpriced. They do not allow you to bring your own wine for a corkage fee, and you must buy their wine from the list they offer. The Wine was way way overpriced with very few offerings under $100 per bottle. Most wines appeared to be marked up 3, 4 even five times the price, which is totally absurd,IMHO. During the approximate two hours we were there, we saw no one buy a bottle of wine, just a glass, and I guess we now know why. You would think the owners or managers would get the obvious message. To top it off, the servers was mediocre as they were slow bringing the food and clearing the table, and they didn't even offer a birthday dessert, (that we would have declined anyway.) Atmosphere - I was greeted with friendly faces, and sat at our table. Staff: our waiter was amazing! On top of it, our bartender crafted some beautifully scripted drinks for our taste buds. She nailed each one perfectly! Food: everything was a 10/10! 10 out of 10! No complaints. The short rib was my favorite! After visiting Georgia Boy 3 times, I was always curious to see what was occurring just feet from the black cushioned seats in the waiting area of Georgia Boy, and if the food was equally as innovative and tasty. I can say with full confidence that Southern Belle harnesses the same power of magic to create incredibly creative and delicious food. The ingredients are hyper seasonal and extremely local - and Chef Ward and his staff know how to inject subtle whimsicality into each dish. As someone who is OBSESSED with Georgia Boy, I am ecstatic that there's essentially an a la carte version in case I don't feel like doing a full 14 course tasting menu. Because the ingredients are sourced locally, menu items change on a whim. Essentially, each time you visit it will be a new experience. This is not only a superb fine dining restaurant, but also a neighborhood gem. In my Atlanta neighborhood to boot! I had an amazing and memorable meal. I took advantage of the limited opportunity for the A-town burger. Which is amazing. Shared the fries. And also shared the peach caprese. And with an incredible description from our excellent waiter, shared the churros with caramel flan and dipping chocolate for dessert. Service is top notch at this restaurant. We've been to Georgia Boy a couple times but this was my first eating off the menu at Southern Belle. Cocktails were good but small for the price. I got the "what if"tequila based cocktail and kinda wished I just ordered the margaritas like my husband. For food we ordered the GEORGIA WAGYU BEEF TARTARE with the upgrade caviar. The beef was a little tough and I noticed white tendon attached which I think means I could've been butchered better for tenderness. Also it's smothered in the heavy dairy crème sauce which complete overwhelmed the dish in my opinion. I was over it before I got to my caviar which had more of the same crème (as seen in picture) We also had the burrata, SUMMER CAPRESE, which was good, fresh, loved the little fried basil on top. Delicious could've used a chip, bread, or something to garnish and eat the small tomatoes/melon. For mains we had CHATEL FARMS WAGYU BEEF SHORT RIB and the Quail. Keep in mind their website isn't current yet so don't be disappointed if you can't get the bacon wrapped tenderloin. Short rib was great not too fatty and cooked to perfection. Quail was delicious, a small portion and bird of course but absolutely amazing flavor. It was a fun date night, offers little privacy is that is a concern, as it's pretty open and feels like you're eating at a BnB. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Great dinner at Southern Belle. They now have an a la carte menu. Our server, Jennifer was nice and super helpful in going over not only the craft cocktail menu but the dishes. The dining room is inviting, charming and so cute!! So many nods to Atlanta can be seen on the wall. For example, they had a picture of John Lewis, President Carter and even Andre 2000 if I recall correctly. The bar is anchored in the back of the dining room with a bright sign with the famous southern saying: Bless Your Heart. Cute!! The food was great. Beautiful plating and flavors. We had the pork belly, the mushroom chorizo fundido (a must try), the poached grouper (so good) and the diver scallop. Now, the one issue I had was that they said the plates are shareable. Not the scallop dish which is so delicious! It was only one scallop...1!. It should have been two. Come on!! That was my only issue. I almost ordered another scallop but decided not to. Easiest 5-star rating I've ever given. My boyfriend surprised me and took me here on my birthday, and the entire experience was amazing! The decor inside is so beautiful, filled with bright colors and modern furniture. The service was impeccable. We started with very refreshing cocktails, and they brought a little amuse-bouche for us. It was the most delicious pumpkin soup served in tiny, hilarious imitation Starbucks cups. Next, our "eggs in a basket" made with toast, beef tartare, truffle, and egg - so good and very truffle-forward. Then a diver scallop with farro, cauliflower, and cream. Third course was Thai braised beef short rib with congree - I will never turn down short rib. The dessert was pumpkin cheesecake, but it also came with coffee ice cream, a chocolate cookie, and pumpkin seed praline - an explosion of flavor. I was so incredibly full by the end, and I was still trying to do my best to finish as much as possible. I cannot say a single bad thing about Southern Belle. It can be risky to do a blind 4-course tasting menu, but you can trust them to make it perfect. The tasting menu is slightly less expensive on Thursday than on Friday and Saturday, so that might be a good time to try this place out if you have flexibility during weeknights. I will hereon be recommending this as a special occasion restaurant to everyone I know! read more

i feel like this place is amazing for what it is...albeit a little more pricey than what I'd like. this restaurant is the sister restaurant to Georgia Boy which is another famous restaurant in the ATL. Most of the menu items were good but the quantity left more to be desired. Expect to pay north of $50/person if you actually want to be full. The best thing about the menu is the show you get when you order the banana foster. The chef himself rolls the entire thing out on a Delta airlines cart and give the talk and show. However, if you are one of the other ten parties in the restaurant that ordered it, you prob have heard the show at least five times before it got to your table. read more

Enjoyed a lovely dinner at Southern Belle. The restaurant is located prominently on Ponce in the same plaza as urban outfitters. The restaurant features 4 or 7-course tasting menus. We enjoyed the 4 course menu which also includes a bread service and a take on the tomato sandwich to start. Staff are incredibly knowledgeable and take pride in the restaurant. The lamb was most likely or least favorite dish. Salmon was incredibly fresh. Bread was delicious though the butter/bruschetta hybrid was a bit oily. Wine was good as well. They have a pairing menu although we opted to try cocktails and wine by the glass. The 4 course was $75 and wine pairing $52. Reservations are a must! I'd recommend including your preferences so they can make recommendations accordingly. They also always keep steak as a back up option. We were also told that the Parking is available in front of the restaurant, behind the restaurant, and on the street. read more

This restaurant is unexpectedly tucked away in a small strip mall surrounded by other establishments that have a way more casual bar and dinner feel. When you enter the restaurant, the space is not terribly big so you can basically see the entire room. That being said, the décor was very nice and I liked their use of the space and the neon light accents. There were a few high top tables against the wall on side, there were also some tables, but the majority of the area was set with some cocktail lounge chairs. I ordered a few cocktails and those were good. I didn't ordered any food on this trip but I did notice folks getting some dessert that had an elaborate presentation involving a Delta food service cart and liquid nitrogen which was pretty cool (no pun intended lol). Delta Airlines Customers take note... We were sitting at dinner last night at Southern Belle with our party of eight friends. A Delta cart was wheeled by with a full spread of a Bananas Foster production much of like what you would see at Brennan's in New Orleans. We told the server that we wanted to order that and were told that it was only for Delta Airlines special customers. Not that I think we are "special" but we had several very loyal Delta customers sitting among us, some with platinum medallion status. Not that it even matters, but the servers and managers were very off-putting with the responses as to why we were not worthy enough to order this dish. I suppose if you are a Delta patron and would like the Bananas Foster, you may make arrangements ahead of time OR just go to Brennan's in New Orleans instead. read more

The evening and experience left us so disappointed. The food was just okay and presented like an overpriced tapas menu that did not surprise or inspire. Most disheartening was Southern Belle/Georgia Boy's questionable business practices which require a deposit for dinner reservation (ok, fine) AND ANOTHER DEPOSIT to re-reserve after the restaurant canceled our initial reservation. Holding an $800 deposit hostage and demanding more money to re-reserve does not foster trust or good will. An expensive dinner out should be exciting, thrilling, and special. We felt none of that. From start to finish, the front of house team was more concerned with restaurant policy/procedure than treating patrons fairly or graciously. A sad experience all around. read more

What a great date night! Finally visited @southernbelleatlanta on Saturday August 15th because I've had my heart set on short ribs for over a month! Everything was delicious. The corn risotto my beef short ribs with turnips were bursting with Moroccan flavors and the grilled tomato a nice touch. My date ordered the crispy cornmeal fried trout w/an arugula salad. The trout was seasoned perfectly and just the right amount of crisp but still flaky. My Old Fashioned Roulette drink had a nice surprise (Chocolate Bitters) and the Smoke On the WaterMelon was definitely smoky but packed a nice punch. And best of all we got to sit on Ponce in a Pandemic and enjoy a wonderful Meal Ask for Philip! Amazing service read more

Very unique experience here - whether you try a la carte or prix fixe. Note that they were also malleable with respect to dietary constraints as they have a vegetarian prix fixe menu as well. Their pricing for the Thursday prix fixe is cheaper than the equivalent for Friday & Saturday. For that reason alone, I'd recommend Thursday. Servers are really knowledgeable, and the ambiance is eclectic and interesting. I don't want to give away too much with respect to their prix fixe because they intentionally try to keep it somewhat mysterious. But I can appreciate that they delivered a strong, memorable experience. Note that we went first for an a la carte dinner (which was excellent...we loved everything, including the mushroom options). Our family tried both the "Better Than Home Cooking" and "A Trip Down Buford Hwy" take-home meal sets for dinner and absolutely loved them! For starters, the sets come with generous food portions and are worth what you pay. "Better Than Home Cooking" includes mushroom & truffle risotto, slow-cooked salmon, bacon & heirloom tomato pie with pan-roasted broccoli, and sticky toffee-coffee pudding. "A Trip Down Buford Hwy" includes Szechuan dry-fried eggplant, Carolina gold rice bibimbap, and sticky toffee-coffee pudding. The two orders fed the four of us for dinner, and we still had enough leftovers for lunch. My personal favorites were the truffle risotto (earthy and hearty) and the dry-fried eggplant (well-seasoned and well-crisped). My parents couldn't stop raving about the slow-cooked salmon, either, and loved the bacon & heirloom tomato pie so much that I couldn't even snag a bite. The stick toffee-coffee pudding is also delicious: that Biscoff cream just seals the deal. I think the take-out menu changes ever so often, so we're excited to try more! read more

5 stars for one of the best meal experiences ever! I've been to Michelin Star restaurants & James Beard winners all over the world. Some of those spots provided food that was like tasting a piece of heaven, service that made me feel like a king, or a venue that took my breath away. However, most of those places often had some missing piece or such high expectations that I felt more happy that the expectations were met rather than happy to have had the experience. I hate that I might be setting those expectations so sky high for Southern Belle, located a few doors down from Plaza Theatre on Ponce in a relatively unassuming spot, but that is what I'm going to do. Southern Belle is a relatively new spot founded by Chef Joey Ward (aka the man behind Gunshow) that opened a few months before the COVID pandemic hit (talk about bad luck). It is not (yet) listed on any of the Top Restaurant lists due to being new/the pandemic, so I didn't know it existed until a couple friends of ours asked us out to dinner at their new favorite place. We arrived at the venue about 10 minutes before our seating and the hostess at the stand outside (in the cold! Talk about a hero right there) offered to grab us some pre-dinner drinks. I looked at the menu and she recommended drinks that ppl really like. The drink I picked (I can't remember the name unfortunately) came out and was literally one of the best cocktails I've ever had. It had black salt on the side of the glass (to help y'all order it) which actually went perfectly with the relatively strong drink. I later ordered the old fashioned for my second drink and, while that was solid, my first drink was truly a memorable one. We went inside to find a fun Southern decorated venue with nice low romantic lighting. The bar near the back center was illuminated by the words "Bless Your Heart" to really get that southern vibe. Our main waiter for the evening came to the table to begin the meal process. Actually, he started our process by telling us about each of our "auras", which I thought meant he was gonna be weird, but he was actually absolutely wonderful, charming, and (most importantly) extremely attentive and full of information. He would come out with each of our 7+ courses (only $125! What a deal!) to oversee transitions and answer questions, while other members of the staff were sent out to give course explanations in a very intentional manner similar to the Gunshow model. The 1st course that came out for us (after getting all our add-ons and specifics set out) was something called the PSL. This dish involves some type of soup and coffee that to me tasted like a sweet potato or peanut soup. The really cool part about this dish though was it came in a little Starbucks cup! Even better was the staff intentionally misspelled our names so that we got the true Starbucks experience! Maybe it is just me, but this idea was super fun and a great way to start off the meal. The 2nd dish that we had come out scuppernong granita, which is a tuna dish mixed with some creamy wasabi, truffles, and apples. This all sounds a little weird on its own (and I'm not a big spicy guy), but the little fishbowl shaped dish was cool and the dish actually tasted great! The flavors all mixed together well and was something I could eat over and over again. The 3rd dish (I think) that came out is where the venue really built up the pizazz. 4 of the wait staff brought out dishes which to me looked like the Enchanted Rose from Beauty and the Beast with smoke inside covering the dish. The servers pulled the top off all 4 of our dishes at the same time to reveal (if I remember correctly) the pan seared diver scallop. The scallop was pretty good, but the presentation made it hard to remember that part so good job there. The 4th dish that came out was something called the Egg in a Basket, which was a really beef tartare with egg. I ordered the caviar to go along with the dish. While the wait staff initially forgot it, they profusely apologized, brought it out right away, and then took it off my bill! I'm not the type who needs that type of show, but I really appreciated the effort and thoughtfulness in doing so. The caviar did go with the dish quite well to make quite an tasty dish. (Yelp says I'm low on characters, so let's go quick): The 5th and 6th dishes came out pretty soon one after another and were both quite good. I can't remember the name of the fifth dish (they offered us a copy of the menu after the meal and I inexplicably declined, so forgive my forgetfulness), but you can see the picture attached and know it was quite good, as was the poulet rouge. However, the real star during that part of the meal was the ribeye. It was the perfect size for a 7 course meal and absolutely delicious. We then finished with a fun dessert and headed on our way. Celebrated my 29th birthday here and it was such a lovely experience. Our waiter was amazing (gentleman with glasses) but the GA short rib was BUSSIN! Came here on a whim for date night on a Saturday at around 9:00, upon walk in we were greeted and seated immediately, the place is adorable, with artwork along the walls and beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceilings the aesthetics alone make it perfect for a date or a girls night. For my drink I got the Spaceships on Bankhead, which was perfectly made. Now to the FOOD!!! Everything was amazing we started with the Shrimp and Corn Ceviche which was so flavorful and the sweet potato chips it was paired with added a sweetness I didn't know I needed, then to the mains we decided to get the short rib and grits, only one word to describe it is OTHERWORLDLY it was amazing, and for our other main we got the mushroom chorizo which you literally don't even miss the meat, and the house made tortillas were so buttery and soft. Southern Belle has a great menu and amazing food. The service is also great. Came here for the first time a couple months ago and I was pleasantly surprised. Went for Mother's Day dinner alone (that was my husband's present to me) and it was a phenomenal experience. The meal was engaging and told a story from start to finish. I ate everything on every plate and wanted more, but left pleasantly plump. The cocktails were perfect and the presentation of each course, each drink, each wine was perfect. Was taken on a date here in April 2021 for a tasting menu adventure. Only negative thing I can say is that I couldn't finish all the amazing food!! Food: 5 stars! They took me on a journey! If you're open to outside of the box foods, it's worth the money! Every course was incredible. Many of them I never would have tried based on description. Would have missed out on these incredible works of art! They had a full vegan tasting menu option for me and a pescatarian option for my girlfriend. The wine pairing was also nice. The sommeliers explained how and why the wines paired the way they did and how the tastes change after eating each course. Service: 5 stars! I've never had better service. Anywhere.
