A great hometown bar/restaurant. Friendly staff, great food and prices. I really enjoy a menu with plenty of low/no carb options...Murphy's exceeded most local places. The grilled buffalo wings and Cajun grilled chicken fingers are delicious. They even made me a hotdog with chili in a bowl covered in cheese. The regular hotdog plate, with chips and a pickle @ $4.25 has been quoted to be the best in town by some locals. They have recently moved the kitchen/grill away from the bar area and added a full kitchen. I hear the menu will be growing. There is plenty of outdoor seating and they even have a fire pit for the winter months. I will be back! read more

Traveling through the area we stopped in for lunch and a beer. There isn't a large selection of beers on draft but the ones they have are some of my favorites. The bartender was professional and attentive. The food was very good, I thought the prices were reasonable as well. read more

Great place to go for a beer and a sandwich. Reasonable prices all around. Bartenders can be extremely friendly as long as you don't yell out an order at them while they are talking to someone else. They really do hate it and I have seen them ignore people who are being obnoxious if it''s really busy (especially on St. Patricks Day). I have noticed the crowd has definitely skewed older in the past 5 years. On a weekend or summer night 10 years ago, the older guys would drink inside and the large outdoor spaces would be filled with college age kids and people in their twenties. That's definitely not the case anymore. It's not a great place to meet a potential mate who's under the age of 30. That's for sure. Very few females. You might see a group of Fratboys sharing a pitcher every once in a while but that's about it. A lot of people say it's because Murphys is a known cop hangout, but I don't buy that since it doesn't seem to hurt Bradfords any. I think it's just the location is a little bit too far off the main downtown strip for many people and there's not much parking. read more

Had been to this place with friends for a drink, though little disappointed with the speed of the service, as a courtesy, we left a tip of ~15% and were walking out of the restaurant. To our shock, a staff member followed us from behind and started asking why we didn't leave any tip to the waitress! How can any staff talk to the patrons like that? My favorite bar in Stamford!! Plenty of TVs to watch football, hockey, soccer...you name it! There are great specials during NFL games and, my favorite, specialty team burgers on Monday and Thursday! Delicious!! Bottomless brunch is amazing on Sunday's, especially on the patio ( where they have a fire pit in the colder months!) and drinks are great!! I went to Murphys a few days ago and was DISGUSTED. I received NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT when I sat down at the bar. Maybe because I was dressed conservatively... The bartender was hitting on girls and was making everyone uncomfortable. He also kept saying that he was the owner...if this is true HOW RUDE! He was not a good guy and if he is the owner how about he cleans the disgusting bathrooms? The drinks were fine and the food wasn't bad but I got a negative vibe from the workers. They seemed miserable and the bar patrons weren't very...lively. The kitchen also looked a little dirty. I will never come to this place ever again. read more

Murphy's is the best bar in Stamford. Whether you consider it a dive or not, the place is very spacious and well managed. Drinks are priced cheap and the food is very underrated. There is no better bar to watch football on Sundays. If you are from out of town, your team is guaranteed to be on one of their many big screen TVs. They also host bottomless brunch along with free burgers and dogs out on the patio. Football Sunday is a day everyone needs to experience! I visited Murphy's on a business trip with a coworker. I was looking for something chill and found this pub on Yelp, drawn in by the good reviews and an outside patio option, and great reviews of the burgers. This was a really great place to visit for a "local experience." There were few out-of-towners. The waiter and some of the other customers were very friendly and inviting - we had a nice conversation with the waiter! They had a good beer selection with a few local brews. The burgers were big, juicy, not greasy, and very filling - service was fast. There was plenty of patio space with a fountain to stare at. I would definitely go back if I return to Stamford. One note - I didn't see any hipsters - at least the night that we were eating there - the clientele was mostly 30+. But the waiter did mention that the local brew I ordered "tasted like PBR." Visiting friends in Stamford - if I lived here, this would be a regular hang-out. We all ordered burgers & they were excellent - large, perfectly cooked, tasty, and the right balance of juiciness. Got a reply from the owner regarding my visit and review. While he was apologetic and understood my disappointment with the lack of any highchairs, I'm still puzzled. He cited the lack of space for changing tables in the bathroom and that's about all I could comprehend. The rest of the explanation involved a war zone of outdoor smoking, pub darts, profanity, a working staircase and the ever busy intersection of Franklin and North. Just ate at Hoo Doo Brown in Ridgefield on route 7 the other night with my son in a high chair. Route 7 is a pretty busy road too, last time I checked. Watching a small child like a hawk is basic parenting, just like having a high chair for a patron who needs one is basic customer service. Again, I used to go to Murphy's often, and the food was always good. Wasn't asking anyone to shield my little guy from the all the dangers that apparently exist at the corner of Franklin and North on a Tuesday afternoon, just a seat that would hold him safely. While I thank the owner for his reply, it only re-iterated my original review. What's the harm in keeping a high chair around for the people who are actually willing to watch their kid and subject them to all the flying darts, smoking and profanity that is apparently such a big part of a Tuesday afternoon at Murphy's? Or maybe the nice bartender who offered us a seat in the dining room should have turned us away like kids with a fake ID when he saw a toddler in our company. Have been a few times and outdoor seating is great. Food is excellent...burgers, chicken sandwiches, and wings. Beers are priced well... Only real issue is sitting inside next to the bar - there are to many flies. Place needs to clean this up so flies aren't all over the customers. Love Murphy's Townhouse Cafe. It's a must if your gay or straight. Aesthetically, it's one of the best bars in CT . The staff is great. I've been on many occasions for their great martinis, mojitos and atmosphere. Tonight, I took my 2 cousins who were in town and we, for the first time ever, sat next to 2 drunken idiots from out of town. You never really get that crowd at Murphy's Townhouse Cafe, most people are intelligent and in control. These guys were sloppy drunk and getting dangerous, but the fantastic staff were quickly on top of it and escorted them out. It was a classy move. read more
