The scrambled eggs were properly cracked from the shell, not from a bucket. The sausage patty was made with a mild breakfast sausage, hand formed from loose sausage. Home fries were cooked on the grill with enough peppers and onions to qualify as a serving of vegetables. (My wife approved.) If that is not old school enough for you, the rye toast was grilled, not toasted. Service was great, and the coffee cup never was empty. The parking lot in back is small, so if you have a large vehicle do yourself a favor and park across the street. We went on a Sunday morning. The place was full, but tables turned over quickly enough that we didn't wait. One nice touch, the bowls for creamers and jam were Syracuse China. You have to love a diner that is home town proud. That really was the best way to start our day. We ordered short stacks of pancakes and steak and eggs to share. The aroma from the pancakes and steak immediately made us set a high expectation to the food. The pancakes were fluffy, the steak was cooked to our liking, the home fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. I loved that they offered marble rye bread as one of the toasts choices. It's the first time I had it. Boy, everything about that toast was perfect! But the old original dining car is still the heart of it, and my dining companion & I were lucky enough to be seated there. As a kid (60+ years ago!), my Dad would bring me there on Saturdays for lunch. He'd lift me up onto a counter stool, then he'd order a hamburger "with a slice of raw onion as thick as the burger" & a cup of black coffee. I'd have a platter of French fries & a Coke. This time I was there for breakfast, and it didn't disappoint. We both ordered coffee, still served in heavy ceramic cups. We also both had the traditional breakfast - 2 eggs, hash browns, a breakfast meat (crisp bacon for me, sausage links for my cousin), and 2 slices of buttered toast ($14.95). Everything was delicious & all the staff were friendly & attentive. It's so nice when your great memories match your current experience. I definitely recommend this Gem!
