Had a great meal here and for such a good price! The paneer makhani was awesome! Definitely a bit of a spicy kick, but I loved it. The pakoras were crispy and light, with just the right amount of crunch. For the mains, I was really impressed with the butter chicken--they used chicken thighs, which made it so juicy and tender. I definitely prefer it over chicken breast. The chicken Manchurian was new to me. I learned that it's a fusion of China being India's neighbor. Might have to acquire that more to truly enjoy the dish. Finally, the tandoori was a bit different from the usual, but I liked it more. Cooked just right so no complaints! read more

I came back after more than a year and this restaurant continues to WOW me! As a gf vegetarian I found ample delicious options in their lunch buffet including vegetable curry, rice, mixed vegetable pakora, spinach cheese paneer, raita, dal, chutneys including a delicious green mint one, and a yummy rice pudding with sweet rose syrup. They were even kind enough to accomodating my gf by allowing me to replace the naan bread with papadam wafers (lentil). I do not know how they can stay in business with an all you can eat $12.95 buffet lunch but I am hoping my review will increase business there - if this place goes away I will be heartbroking and foodless in Bakersfield. read more

Pretty good lunch buffet at this spot on Wilson, in the olllllld Straw Hat location. I really enjoyed the cucumber salad, the cauliflower dish, and the samosa more than anything else. Very good price on the buffet. read more

I've been seeing a couple reviews about this place and I wanted something different so I thought I would try the buffet for lunch. It was delicious and I would highly recommend for lunch. Service was great and the staff was friendly and attentive. Building is a little old and you can tell they are working on the inside appearance but was clean and they received an A on the health department grade (I'm real big on this) .. overall I'm glad I stopped in today and will definitely be back soon. This is a hidden gem for many reasons. My husband and I stopped by to pick up a to-go order for a late lunch. The serving potions are large and I find that you get a lot for what you pay for and I appreciate that. The staff are friendly and had recommendations for vegetarian options. We tried the tofu tikka masala and Aloo Gobi which are both vegetarian. The naan was delicious and ALL the food was still warm when we arrived home (which was a 15 minute drive home). We had plenty of leftovers and even when re-hearing the food it's still delicious. It looked clean, and they even have a lunch buffet option (dine in only) which we look forward to trying. I was craving Indo-Chinese and I found Muskaan. The restaurant interior was a bit off, but tables and floors were clean - so I didn't let that bother me. Their food were not bad. The two Indo-Chinese dishes had good flavor but but I did feel that it could have had more stuff - after getting couple spoonful of stuff out of it, we were only left with sauce. Better chicken had good portion and super flavorful. Naan was a bit on the thin and crisp for my liking, buy was still very good. So muskan means smile and that you will have after enjoying the buffet here . Every item in the buffet menu tasted fresh and different than any other Indian restaurants in town . I particularly liked the tandoori chicken which is very close to real one minus the coloring . That also have Indian Chinese items in menu which are delicious and adds favor to the buffet. Right now the buffet price is only 10.99 . Go get it . Jazmine was very helpful and ensures your needs of water naan etc are met promptly. Super excited because this new restaurant is literally walking distance from my job! Lol anyways i came by for their lunch special and food was delicious. They had many options to choose from. When we arrived not all of the items were ready so we had to wait not too long for some items. The star of the show was definitely the naan it was delicious. But honestly everything I tried was delicious and tasted great. My favorite was the Indian saag and butter chicken. Great customer service as the waiter was really helpful on identifying each dish. Delicious Indian buffet, wanted to have a quick Indian lunch on our way to vegas from Paso Robles. So many dishes for just $10.99! They had mix pakora, hakka noodles, chicken manhurian and tandoori chicken for appetizers.. for main there was chicken curry, butter chicken, paneer makhni, dal and mix veg. Fresh naan brought to table, garlic or plain. However naan took a long time to prepare and our entrees got cold by the time it came. Dessert was ok.. ras malai and gulab jamun. Lunch buffet ends at 2.30 pm but at 2 pm a lot of things were almost gone.. but the staff refilled everything upon our request. There was a kid running all over the couch where we were sitting but the hostess still gave us the table which was run over by the kids at the nearby tables. I hoped the hostess would have given us a cleaner booth next to the table. And she got our check at 2.25 saying they were closing in 5 mins which I thought was rather rushed especially coz it took them so long to get our naan. read more

Although they weren't crowded on this Thursday, the food was still hot and fresh on the lunch buffet line. We called ahead for gluten-free options and were able to speak to a knowledgeable person from the kitchen. When we arrived 15 minutes later, we again asked to confirm which dishes were GF, and Chef Ravi personally came out to go over each item with us. He even prepared fresh fritters to make absolutely sure they were gluten-free. This kind of attentiveness for someone with celiac disease is very much appreciated, and the bonus was that each dish we sampled was delicious. This is our third time this month visiting this place. This is where Cafe India (one of the best Indian restaurants in Bakersfield) used to be and we decided to give it a try. We have had our share of Indian restaurants in Bakersfield, some good, some bad. We have to say: Muskaan is our new favorite! The service is great and the food is even better. I always get the Aloo Gobi, it's tender, flavorful and spicy. My husband gets the butter chicken, he says the chicken is tender and seasoned really well. The garlic naan is somehow soft and crispy at the same time. So good. The ambiance is simple but elegant. This place has been around for a couple of months, I think. I just tried this new Indian restaurant today and I'd say it's one of the best, if not the best, Indian lunch buffet in town. The restaurant itself definitely is not the fanciest, it doesn't have the best location, but damn that curry is bomb, and that's what really matters. Highly recommend the saag (spinach curry), paneer, butter chicken and goat curry. Also, get the mango lassi, it's really good and not overly sweet like most other places. The food was delish and met the expectations of what was mentioned on the menu to the customization ordered to what was served on the table. We were the only customers at that time of the night as it was raining. Nevertheless, the staff were attentive and checking up on us regularly to make sure we were doing okay. Initially, we asked for a dessert which was mentioned to be available, but otherwise after checking with the kitchen. We did switch to another dessert. The main chef / owner did send the original dessert and explained why they were hesitant to send it initially with the reason being the proportion being 2/3rds of the original serving size. (They could have easily passed that as one serving size or not send it at all) That was kinda heartwarming along with the yummy desserts of course!! Don't miss it if you are in the area. Tried the full dinner service a couple weeks ago and loved it. The staff greeted us right away and were all very kind throughout. The Butter Chicken (favorite in all of Bakersfield!) and Lamb Korma were excellent. Big portions as well! My family was all full after just one helping each, so we took the rest home (I hope the chef wasn't offended!), and the food was somehow even better as leftovers! But, wanted to try the lunch buffet before leaving a review, so came back today and everything was fantastic! Lots of traditional Indian favorites (great Kheer!) plus some new/different dishes I've never had before. Also had a few Indo-Chinese options in the buffet which was unique (for Bakersfield at least) and quite tasty - I'll definitely have to try some of the options on the dinner menu next time. First time eating here with my family and we love it. We came for the dinner buffet. All the dishes at the buffet is so good. My mom and I love the goat curry. My sister love the butter chicken. My dad love the butter chicken and goat curry. The service is good. Sadly, they don't have samosa and pistachio kulfi. We wanted to try it but we can try again next time.
