This was our first time at Mycovios, but it won't be our last! The entire experience was wonderful. Our waitress was so helpful and efficient and the chef amazing! He was friendly and so willing to talk to us about his creations...which were great! I had the lasagna which was filled with a delicious Bolognese ragu and bechamel sauce and Jim had the Fettucine with shrimp. He said the sauce was light and very tasty...not heavy like so many are. I read a number of good reviews about this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. It's a small restaurant in Ocean Park Washington and has only five tables. It is nicely decorated and they service was good however the food was not that great. The wedge salad was good, a lot of cheese and just the right amount of dressing. The cioppino add a reasonable amount of seafood but the broth was way too salty. The special of the day which was scallops over risotto contain three scallops and a reasonable amount of risotto however the risotto was also very salty. Part of the risotto and most of the broth from the cioppino were left behind. They deserve what is Panna cotta and it was good. Overall I would say I won't go back. I think there are better places on the coast. read more

A perfect date night fine dining experience or entertaining friends from out of town. The owner (chef) and wait staff are in perfect harmony which allows for an intimate & relaxing dining experience. No hustle & bustle but well orchestrated team. This is truly a foodie's delight. Nice wine selection & limited draft beers. Our table of 4 shared the bruschetta with lemon oil & tomato marmalade. Excellent taste treat. Our entrees were 3 with pasta & rib eye morsels and 1 special of the evening: pasta with mushrooms combined with rock cod and crab in a yummy cream sauce. Mycovios is by far my favorite restaurant whenever we visit the Long Beach area...and even better yet, it's a family owned restaurant! They love what they do here and take great pride in each of their dishes. First tip: MAKE A RESERVATION! The restaurant is extremely small already (and now even fewer tables with COVID-19) so a reservation is absolutely necessary if you want to dine-in (take-out is another option of course). They also run out of things quickly! For example, when we sat down for our reservation, they immediately told us there was no more soup and one of the Penne Entrees were sold out. Get your orders in quick! 1) Appetizer - Bruschetta (beef) - I highly recommend ordering both of the bruschettas to try (one meat option, one veggie option). They are sharable sizes and so you and one individual can have half a piece each. The beef bruschetta is yummers! You can really taste the truffle oil, which I love. 2) Appetizer - Bruschetta (tomato) - Out of both the bruschettas though, I have a slight preference over the tomato one. This one is out of this world delicious. The tomato marmalade they use is BOMB. We were close to ordering a second one of this (and probably should've). 3) Appetizer - Roman Style Wedge - My husband is not a big veggie person in general but he LOVED this salad, so I think that's also saying a lot. :) It's a nice simple wedge salad that includes tomatoes, cashews, and dates. I didn't think the combination of having the dates in there would work but it does and it is absolutely delicious! 4) Entree - Penne alla vodka - Yuuuuummy. When I originally placed my order, they told me they ran out of Penne noodles and would have to cook the dish with a different noodle, but luckily they were able to find one last portion of Penne! The dish is so good, and there was plenty of pork sausage included in their homemade sauce. 5) Entree - Penne with pork - This was their special when we came in, which my husband ordered. He devoured his dish and ate every last drop! 6) Dessert - Panna Cotta - My husband and I's absolutely favorite dessert to order whenever we see it on the menu at an Italian restaurant. We overheard the server tell another table during our meal that they only had 3 panna cottas left, so my husband immediately told her if they could please put one of them on hold for us (we were still enjoying our appetizers). The panna cotta had a berry compote on top and it was absolutely lovely. My mouth is watering as I type out this review. I HIGHLY recommend making a reservation here for dinner when you are in the area. You will NOT be disappointed!! read more

February 29th only comes around every 4 years, and we wanted to make our "first" wedding anniversary memorable. We tried making reservations earlier on in the day, only to find out that reservations are typically not taken. Regardless, the person that answered the phone was super encouraging and gave us some suggestions on how we most likely would get a table in our situation. Fast forward to evening, we were almost going to stay in at the cottage we rented, order a pizza, get cozy and enjoy the evening with our little one, but decided to call and see the likelihood of getting a table. Within the hour we found ourselves sitting in this quaint little restaurant, ordering one one of the most memorable meals we have both had in a long time. My husband got the shrimp Alfredo and I ordered the scallop risotto. Both dishes were prepared to perfection! The staff loved the kiddo, and the chef came to give little Liam a high five... which the baby rejected (to the glee of everyone around). Fantastic restaurant! First and foremost, outstanding food. The chef was hand making the pasta. The sauce was the rare right color. Pasta sauces should be more orange than red. The color here was perfect. Tasted fresh and very flavorful. Tasted home made. We had a pasta with a couple types of meat which was to die fore. We had a halibut entree which was also outstanding. Service was top. The atmosphere was unique. Feels like you are in the living room of your friends house. All the cooking happens in the open. Oh, at the end of our meal, the chef came out and chatted with us. Most restaurants heat food. A few actually create food. This place creates food. This is an outstanding restaurant. A week and a half later and I *still* think about our time and meal at Mycovio's. How we have missed this place over the past few years and 3 (I think) trips to Ocean Park is beyond my ability to comprehend. Situated in a charming little, and I mean little, building just down from Doc's Tavern is Mycovio's. I think there's 5 tables and a separate room with an additional table for more. Kitchen is immediately adjacent to the main dining room, and is a heck of a lot of fun to watch. We had reservations (a must) for 4:30 pm on a Sunday night. I cannot recommend reservations highly enough, by the way. Easy enough through Yelp. We began with the tomato bruschetta and shared a Roman wedge salad. Both were remarkable. Partner had cioppino while I had lasagna, and we continued to munch on the salad as a sort of palate cleanser while we enjoyed our entrees. Cioppino: perfect. Lasagna: sublime. Service was outstanding. We asked our server for wine recommendations and were treated to a couple outstanding glasses. I gotta say again, watching and listening to Chef Paul and his staff is so entertaining! I will say, and it's not enough to dock a star, that we were informed that they would be limiting us to 90 minutes in the dining room with 15 minutes to go. That wouldn't have been a problem if we knew in advance, but it forced us to accelerate our admittedly leisurely dinner into something more harried. Not a big deal, but be armed with that knowledge. We will return to Mycovio's each and every time we're in Ocean Park, for sure. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when I came across Mycovios in my restaurant research. I am a sucker for lasagna and loved the idea of a cute little Italian place at the beach. After getting takeout there tonight, I am both disappointed and dumbfounded. I don't understand the five star rating. We had lasagna, Ragu, and clams with pasta - everything was extremely salty - and this is coming from a girl that likes salt. The sauces were runny which was somewhat to be expected given that this was takeout. The tomato bruschetta appetizer was very good but the portion size was very small and not really shareable. Prices were also a little steep. Maybe the five stars got my expectations up but again - too much salt! Bummer.:( read more

This tiny restaurant cooks up some amazing flavors. I ordered the thin spaghetti, which the menu said was cooked with roasted cauliflower, zucchini and bell peppers. Mine didn't have any cauliflower or peppers, but it did have roasted brussels sprouts, which I love. It also had French cut fresh green beans, which had a great, fresh flavor. I was looking forward to the cauliflower, but I understand that fresh vegetables are seasonal and sometimes one veggie is more available than another. No problem since the brussels sprouts were great. That spaghetti dish also had fresh, foraged mushrooms, which I was a little afraid to eat. However, they were so delicious! I also ordered the Market Fresh Fish and had no idea what I would be given. It was rock fish and cooked to perfection. It was so delicious. It came with the most delicate spatzle you could ever imagine. Soft, buttery and mouthwatering. I am not kidding. I also ordered the grilled Romain lettuce, roasted beets, grapefruit and almond salad. It was served with Dunguness crab. The salad was good but the beets were delectable. I didn't see much grapefruit but the citrus dressing did shine. The teramizu was melt in your mouth amazing. I also was able to take home a bottle of Italian red wine at retail pricing. My whole meal was a great, delicious splurge as I usually only go to Thai restaurants, paying maybe $15.00. read more

Food excellent, service ok but the insistence the chefs to keep the front door open, forcing most diners to wear their jackets during dinner was I thought at the least impolite. So don't go in colder weather, but go for the food. It was very good small interesting menu with only six or seven tables made for a very intimate dining experience. read more

Imagine a 6th Star for this review. We took respite here from the Rod Run chaos for brunch on a Saturday morn. Arrived at opening and were promptly seated by a very friendly and attentive host / server. Watching Chef Paul in the kitchen preparing our meals from fresh ingredients was inspiring. The rhythm he has with his sous-chef is akin to watching synchronized dancing. Everything we had was amazing. High-quality ingredients and culinary perfection made this an amazing brunch experience. My berry compote french toast was perfect and not too sweet. My wife's shrimp risotto with andouille sausage was the perfect blend of flavour mastery. We started out with the marinated olives and bruschetta, had the mixed greens salad with dungeness crab (shared between my husband and I). DELICIOUS! My husband had the steak, and I had the pork loin scallopini. Both dinners cooked to perfection! My husband's came with a beautiful garlic infused pasta which he shared with me. Wow. We did not expect such an amazing meal in this quaint little restaurant! We got the bruschetta (best we have ever had) and was a bit worried because the only vegan option was spaghetti which normally does not end well but this spaghetti was not the typical red sauce spaghetti, loaded with grilled veggies and every bite full of flavor, it was amazing! I wanted to lick the bowl...with a great recommendation for a bold Cabernet and a promise from the chef when we return he will work some more vegan magic we are sure to return. Soooo good! The staff was sweet, the inside is homey and comfortable and the food made me want to shed a tiny tear it was so good. We ordered the risotto with scallops...which were prepared so gorgeously that we divided them into quarters to make them last longer. The standout was the basil panna cotta covered with black cherry syrup. I'm not sure I've ever had a dessert that creative and delicious. This is a really wonderful, charming and sweet experience. We drove 45 minutes out of our way to eat here because of the good reviews. We were sadly disappointed, my lasagna didn't have much of a tomato sauce and was Extremely salty. My moms dish reminded me of a TV dinner ( veggie pasta). The 2 stars are for 1: the waitress was lovely! 2nd star for the butter lettuce salad with huckleberry vinaigrette yum!
