Wow. Our second visit. First time was excellent. This time was incredible. Our server Matthew was wonderful. There was a fun, festive feel to the restaurant, being NYE. I jumped at the chef special (slow roasted lamb chops over saffron risotto). My wife, always the seafood aficionado, ordered clams and thin spaghetti. A pair of wines, plus a grilled baguette with whipped ricotta as a starter, rounded out our meal. We thanked Chef Paul on our way out, leaving very happy and well-served. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary. They were so kind to us and one of the waitresses is an amazing singer and sang to us to celebrate. The food was absolutely amazing. So delicious!! I love everything about this place. Every dish we have ordered, has always been fabulous. Love the atmosphere here as it is cozy & comfortable. The chef is right there preparing your dish as you are relaxing & anxiously waiting for your meal. Noise level is within reason of being able to hear others at your table & not having to shout through dinner. My only concern would be if they raise their prices any higher, we just couldn't afford or rationalize more than a once a year visit. Kudos to the staff as well.. read more

My partner and I stopped for what we thought would be a lovely, sophisticated dinner in the Long Beach area where we were staying. When we attempted to enter the restaurant, the chef (Chef Paul) came around from behind the bar and literally pushed us outside to the outside porch. And told us we needed to wait since we didn't have a reservation. No one greeted us or thanked us for our visiting. We were eventually offered a seat at the end of the bar out of the way and we had to wait while the chef satat the bar with his friends, for whom he had prepared special dishes, and we were not able to receive our food until 15 minutes before closing. Although the chef's wife eventually came and apologized to us, the experience was essentially very negative and condescending and unwelcoming. We stayed because we didn't know where else to eat and we didn't have time to try to go to any other restaurants. Although the food was not bad, the attitude and ambiance were terrible. My partner is not willing to return to this restaurant ever. Chef Paul knew nothing about us and appeared to assume we were unimportant, so he really missed the boat in terms of keeping local sophisticated and potentially loyal customers coming to the restaurant. Bottom line: skip MyCovios and find somewhere friendlier with equally good food and probably less expensive. read more

Amazing food! My boyfriend had the shrimp Alfredo and the sauce was delectable and the shrimp tasted soooo good. I had the homeade lasagna and it was amazing. I could tell that the sauce was refined and well thought out. As someone who loves red sauce, this sauce had a very unique and delicious taste. The meat in the lasagna was cooked perfectly and had phenomenal taste. The service was amazing and the hosts were so friendly and kind. The chef really has amazing skill. Oh my goodness! We are not "foodies" other than watching great chefs on TV. We live in Ocean Park but had not visited Mycovios until tonight. Wow! It will now be a monthly thing. "He" went in convinced he was going to have lasagna, but after the server listed the specials he changed to Rock Fish on thin spaghetti. I had the pork belly over thin spaghetti. Neither of us was disappointed. Great, personable, staff, and fun to be able to interact with Chef Paul. The dinner crowd was fun and inclusive singing Happy Birthday to another diner. This place was delicious!! We were recommended by 2 employees the prior night. Both Ariel and Adrian were the sweetest and told me all about the best bites here! We very much enjoyed it! The Bruschetta was some of the best I think I've ever had. So savory and delicious. I ordered the San Fransisco style fish stew and it was sooo good. The grilled bread was soo good too. The seafood was all cooked perfect and there was soo much flavor! I really loved the crab I would of been happy with just a bowl full of the broth and crab. My fiancé ordered the Chicken Cacciatore and he thought it was solid but intimately liked my order better. A little disappointed in the Tiramisu. This for us unfortunately was the least favorite. It was a bit dense and a little too wet. I think we like ours to be a bit more fluffy and as much as I love the boozy coffee it felt soaked making the cake itself more dense than we'd hoped. My fiancé would say 4 stars based on just his meal alone but I say 5. To me the only lacking part was the dessert everything else was delicious! I would definitely come back for more! Overall it was a delicious meal to celebrate our engagement on our weekend getaway! Loved the local vibe of it all! read more

Best Italian restaurant I've been to! It was worth every penny!! Everything is made from scratch, no processed flavors here! You can tell it was all made with love! The service was incredible! The waitress was very efficient and serving all tables herself. She was very friendly and hard working! The chef even came out and checked on us and how we like the meal! First class service and a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere! We had the Chicken Fettuccine and the Fettuccini chicken cacciatore. We topped it off with their tiramisu, which was also very delicious!!! The fettuccini was the best I've ever had!! I would highly recommend stopping by. We had the grilled baguette w/ whipped ricotta app, Alfredo w/shrimp, and pappardelle w/smoked chicken. Some of the best pasta dishes we've had. Ever. Dessert could not be passed up: lemon bar infused with strawberry chunks topped with some other awesome whipped delight and roasted almonds and shaved chocolate....i mean...please. Service was excellent. There was a rockfish and crab special we did not have but two tables nearby did, and raved hard about it. This intimate Italian restaurant is our favorite for special occasions as well as a weekend takeout. The special is the very best thing to order as it is always inspired. Everything on the menu is incredible with something for everyone from seafood to meat to pasta. We brought my mom there for her 89th birthday and were treated to a song by our wonderful waitress. The staff has been so professional and friendly every time we have been in. It is fascinating to watch the food being prepared in view of every table from the open kitchen. It is a friendly and welcoming environment which is so similar to the Ocean Park area. I have seen people mess up the reservation process and the staff still figures out a way to still accommodate them to avoid any disappointment. We even ordered dishes similar to those at My Covio's because we love the presentation of every offering, as beautiful as it is delicious. read more

There are six tables in this small restaurant and it's such a blast to see what happens in the kitchen. I love the intimate feel and our server was so gracious. This was our second time here... adding a new yearly tradition to our travels to Long Beach. I had the cioppino this time and it was amazing. The marinara was rich and flavorful, full of crab, scallops (to die for), clams, and fish. So satisfying. We also had a salad and bruschetta, with a tasty cherry tomato marmalade. Mycovios is a gem of a place and I'm not ashamed to admit I was too shy to gush over the food to the chef, who comes table to table to say hi. Ok- we ate here twice in one week! We were on vacation, and the food, service and ambiance were so good that we made a reservation and came back a couple of days later. This is a cute small restaurant. I highly recommend reservations since they are a small place. It is worth it! I had multiple shellfish dishes. My husband is allergic to shellfish and they were on their mark in serving me delicious dishes while serving him safely and with excellent no shellfish in the dish food. We tried many different dishes as well as house specials. When we go back to this are, we will definitely be making reservations to eat here again! read more

Made a 5 pm reservation for 2 adults and a toddler, arrived on time and was told someone cancelled our reservation. Offered to seat us outside with no shade. Seemed extremely rude given this was the restaurant's mistake as we did not call to cancel. Pushed back and expressed our disappointment given there were very few options for us left in town last minute, and they eventually accommodated us at a very small table inside. Overheard that the woman at the table next to ours who arrived with her partner shortly after us knew the male waiter/manager personally. Each time I caught eyes with him from the time we arrived to the time they sat us inside, he'd quickly look away as though ashamed/guilty-gut feeling by his avoidance of eye contact. Have to wonder if he cancelled us to accommodate his friend last minute. Despite having been seated before they arrived, they were attended to by this waiter before us even after we'd been there at least 10 mins prior already due to the cancelled reservation. Other than this very negative experience, the food was great. Expect watery white sauce if you order anything Alfredo. Based on other reviews, can see that's just the chef's style. Lasagna was excellent. Not likely to return after the way we were treated here. When you a pay a premium price for good quality food, you should expect much better service than what we received. read more

But this review is for the incredibly delicious halibut I had June 3rd. It was the "special". And outstanding Usually I eat rather slowly, but one bite and i couldn't stop myself. (Sorry no pictures). My girlfriend and I decided at the last minute to go out for dinner, this is my absolute favorite place for dinner on the whole of our Penninsula. One usually needs a reservation, but we thought what the heck we'll just see if perhaps they could squeeze us in. I am so grateful they did. My 4th visit to this spot finally convinced me it's just not for me. Service: Aloof. If you are a local, or friend of the chef you'll be fine. Otherwise expect to be ignored when you arrive and depart. The place is so small - even eye contact would be an seemingly easy improvement. Food: My rockfish was tasty but cold inside. Pasta dishes are just OK. If you don't happen to order an alcoholic drink good luck with any other beverage requests. Certainly doesn't merit a long drive to a "destination" dining spot. There are several friendlier dining options with consistently good meals on the Long Beach Peninsula. I have no idea how many times you need to dine here before you are considered worthy. read more
