Over the past year, my experience with Nail Tech has gone downhill when it comes to eyebrow waxing. The past few times my eyebrows were not perfectly waxed clean, and when I pointed it out, they haphazardly trimmed it. I also didn't like how there were a few times when they would have conversations with other workers or on the phone while doing my eyebrow. If the job only takes a few minutes, could you possibly hold off your phone conversation for those few minutes? Anyways, it was a bit unprofessional and the job was not well-done. The place itself is not as inviting and has not been updates for a long time, so I would say invest your ~$10 elsewhere for your eyebrow waxing service. read more

I really wanted to try the gel polish. After calling around and looking on Yelp I decided to go with Nail Tech. When I look to get my nails done I'm not looking for a fancy place, you can go to a spa for that. I just want to get in without an appointment, the place to be clean, a good color selection, and a reasonable price. For the gel polish it was $21 and to get a gel manicure it $27. I consider that a good price! The two negatives about this place are their color selection and the decor. Most of the OPI colors were very dark and seemed to be a bunch of different shades of burgundy. I prefer the pastel/neutral colors especially in the summer. I finally settled for a light pink, but I would have liked more of an option. The decor is not impressive. They have lime green walls with pastel purple trim, Christmas lights hanging over the pedicure stations, and needs an update. However, like I said earlier decor is not the most important thing to me. The only reason I am giving it four stars instead of five is because of the lack of color selection. I called when I got off work to see if there was a wait and they said they could take me right away. When I got there I was told to make a color selection and immediately given to Bao at station 6. Bao is GREAT! I couldn't decide on a color so Bao started to work on my manicure while I looked through the selection. He opened the package of tools in front of me which always makes me feel better. I have short nails that brake very easily so it can be difficult to do much with them. The process took over an hour and my nails look great! I love the look of the gel polish. I went back a second time about two weeks later and I must say the experience wasn't as good. They were extremely crowded and the person that did my nails was nice, but stopped to check his cell phone and make calls while working on my nails. I was there during my lunch break so time was of the essence. I also think the language barrier was a problem because he couldn't understand how I wanted my nails done. Tam had to translate (twice). All in all, he did a good job on my nails though. I needed the 'brows done, but Tam was slammed and he insisted he could do it "quick," but I'd rather not have a quick 'brow job, thanks. So I offered to come back that evening. I did and he saw me immediately and Tam was so happy I was back. However, he pretty much forgot everything he told me initially and arched my eyebrows (!) and over-plucked the edge of one. I'd possible go back if I was in the area, but I was a lot less impressed the second time around. read more

I've never gotten my nails done here, but it is my go-to place for getting my eyebrows waxed. Tam is an absolute artist when it comes to eyebrows and the prices are way too reasonable for this level of service. My eyebrows are kind of oddly shaped, one has a higher arch than the other, and he shapes them just right every time so they look normal and I daresay perfect. Even his waxing technique is phenomenal, it literally doesn't hurt at all when he pulls of the cloth strips so it's a very comfortable experience. He uses this kind of powder then gel then lotion treatment at the end so I'm not all red and raw the next day. I'm going to be really sad when I move away and can't stop by here as easily. I've also never needed an appointment, I just stop by and sometimes I wait for 5-10 minutes but it's really quick nonetheless. I'm only giving this place an extra star because of the price. I decided to come here based on the reviews and the fact that it is close to my job. I went in Friday evening and didn't have to wait. I wanted the mani/pedi for $28 (which is a steal). I picked my colors and was immediately taken to a chair for my pedicure. I don't know his name, but he was very quick. The products were clean, and everything he used he took out of a plastic wrapper, so that made me feel that they realize the importance of sanitary tools (which I think is missed on some places). Next, I was taken to the manicure chair. I told him I didn't want my cuticles cut, which surprised him. Not everyone knows what they're doing, and I didn't want to take the chance that he would be one of them. He did a good job, albeit quick. I never get manicures because they always chip before a week has passed. So far, four nails have chipped polish. When I do my own nails, it lasts a little longer. It was nice to get them shaped up and have someone else do them for a change. Now, the reason why I knocked off 4 stars (in addition to the chipped manicure) is that while I was sitting getting my pedi, I saw a big water bug. At first I thought that it may be due to the weather being icky and rainy outside, but then it dawned on me that it came from the direction of the back of the store. So, I'm not sure what's going on there. If I had had dry feet, I probably would have gotten up and left. Hopefully this was just a one off thing. The good news- best place to get your eyebrows done (ask for Tam). More good news- great, friendly people and they offer you drinks. The bad news- even after they did a touch up on my nails to fix the gel that stuck my nail to my finger and to take off some of the nail polish on my fingers the first tech left on, there is an ugly excess polish bump on my pinky that I didn't notice until I got in the car. Love this place!! I first stumbled upon it out of necessity four years ago and now, two moves later (to Virginia and then DC), I always come back to have my nails done. The staff is great and most of them are related so it's one big family which is nice. Tam is great at waxing and nails. My skin is a little sensitive which he always takes into account. Sarah usually does my nails and is absolutely amazing. My gel manicure always looks great and lasts for 3-4 weeks before I have to come back. Despite my wedding being across the country, I carefully planned out a trip here before we flew out and also took my mother who was visiting. The whole staff was amazing and even stayed late to make sure everything was perfect. Quick note: they're closed on Mondays but open Saturday and Sunday. I go for two things and two things only. Eyebrows: Tam is AMAZING. Seriously I will not allow anyone else, there or elsewhere, touch my eyebrows. He took some really awful, misshapen eyebrows (mishap at another waxing location) and made them look better than they've ever looked in 3 visits. All this and then it's only $10?? Yes please! Gel Manicure: I've gotten Tam and I've gotten other people to do my nails before. Everyone does a good job, but I like to get a french gel manicure and sometimes they will do the white part too small and you can see my nails behind it. I've had a few times where it's started coming off my nails within a week, but I've been able to go back in and they'll fix it. Eyebrows by Tam ... yes. Nails by Tammy or Sarah ... excellent. Pedi by Tams mom or hand massage by Tams dad ... yes. Cleanliness has declined on the floors and bathroom but the pedipools are clean. I've had a few painful experiences with Lani. She is nice but a bit rough and pushes for what she wants to use rather than what you want. This place was highly rated but once again, DC area beauty services leave basically everything to be desired :/ I asked for a gel mani and pedi- got a gel mani (three coats, and you could see the nail still, plus occlusions in it). But not the pedi- they ended up using a different normal laquer. I also asked for same color on both, and they're two entirely separate colors... Great. They also did the mani before the pedi and so what should have been an hour or so became a much longer trip. Had to leave to catch a ride home and the pedi was ruined by my shoes. I thought I'd be able to have some cute durable nails for my vacation, but now I'm going to be stuck with my attempts to salvage my toes at home and a crumbly gel manicure on my fingers. So let me start off by saying I never write reviews, but after searching for a new nail salon, I read a lot of reviews and said that I too would write a review... whether my experience was good or bad. So let me start off with the reason I came here... To have Tam do my eyebrows. After reading all of the fantastic reviews about him, I couldn't resist. And let me say, Tam did not disappoint! He is great! I give him 5 stars! I will be back to have him do my eyebrows for sure! Now, let's move on to my pedi. It's a Tuesday, so it's slow and they don't have full staff here. So go figure that I got the one person who I had read bad reviews about and didn't want to get... Lonnie. She isn't the best nail tech... But she isn't the worst either. I think the lady who wrote a bad review about her was very harsh. She's a very nice lady, but she did cut my toes a couple of times while trimming my cuticles. That could be partially my fault because I have chubby toes & I cut my nails very short prior to coming to the salon. Tam did come over and take over for a bit, to make sure everything was ok before Lonnie applied the gel polish. And then he came over again after my nails & paraffin wax was done to make sure I was pleased. My nails came out fine and my feet are soft as a baby's butt thanks to the paraffin wax. I'm happy with the results. I will try to post a picture. In conclusion, I will come back here again, but I'll be sure to make a reservation next time and ask for a different nail tech. read more

FINALLY, the eyebrow gods have smiled upon Montgomery County and have sent a messiah of eyebrow shaping. His name is Tam. You MUST go to him - and when I say you I mean all Middle Eastern and Mediterranean women who have been blessed/cursed with full eyebrows that require a heavy hand of regular maintenance but look fantastic when done correctly. The salon itself is no frills but that just translates into reasonable prices. Skip the spas and go to Tam. Seriously. Then I found as he does your brows he's looking at who is coming in and finding out what they need. But, I decided to give him another try with a gel manicure. The first one was good. I was excited to go here because it was close to 8pm and I was happy that they would still take me. however once i got there I had to wait for service even thought there were people available to work on me. after they trimmed and clipped my nails i was deciding between getting a regular french manicure and a gel french manicure. she gave me a the price difference for both. by the time i came back from the sink where they told me to wash my hands she increased the price of the gel by $6 saying that the cuticle trim made the cost more. this was ill fashioned seeing as how the cuticle trim is routine with any manicure service. this was a rip off to jack up the prices because if this is an extra cost they should have informed of this service seeing as how I only asked for french manicure. needless to say i won't be going back to get services from them because they were not upfront about their prices. read more

Been coming here since I moved to Rockville MD two years ago and I used to like it a lot but it has gone downhill, the guy Tam is good but never available anymore and the two times I had to get his wife, I really hated it. She is horrible at doing acrylic or gel, not careful at all and drew blood every time and is always a little rude also my nails look really bellow average and uneven. I got a hair cut there and it was amazing!!! I heard their are other places that charge like $50 while this place charges like $17 and it looks and feels better I recommend you come here when ever you want a hair cut. I asked for Tam after seeing such awesome reviews about him, he was definitely very friendly and welcoming, but his nail painting skills are not as good. I got a basic gel manicure and it turned out streaky, there were parts (in the middle) of my nail that were left uncoated, and there was a decent amount of polish that got on my skin around the nail and it cured like that - ontop of having what looked like a mountain of polish on my actual nail. Would probably go somewhere else next time just because it ended up being $35 and that's really expensive for me considering I've been to a few high end nail salons, and ended up being the same price; but ended up with much better gels and betters manicures overall. I've been going here for years just for my eyebrows but I came to get my toes done and I had gel on my toes but because I decided to get regular polish this time I'm charged extra 6 dollar to take off the pervious gel color.
