Long story short, Vera's pedicures are life changing!! Vera is extremely welcoming and her work really speaks for itself. She is there to get your feet in tip top shape and she does not mess around! She's the only person who has essentially cured me of the in grown toes I used to suffer from after getting pedicures at traditional salons. She's introduced me to the magical gehwol fluid and product line that I had no idea existed before her. Following Vera's instructions on using the fluid and cuticle oil has completely changed toes. Vera is amazing. She is the only person who can help you cure toe nail fungus. I gave up on ever having clear nails because nothing worked. Vera gave me hope. She recommended the medication, helped me obtain the medication, and we i made amazing progress after just 3 months. When I first came to visit Vera, my nails were a complete wreck from the effects of cancer treatment-- and from trying to hide that with acrylic nails and later gel nails that I got at a standard salon. I am a woman who appreciates beauty and glamour and it was so upsetting even after my hair grew back, my toenails were gross and malformed and my fingernails were thin and flaky. I've been going to her exclusively, ditching all the cheap nail salons I used to go to for what is accurately described not as a manicure or a pedicure but a "medicure." She doesn't use the same toxic and carcinogenic product that the salons I went to did, and she's not about covering things up but rather actually healing and cleaning and helping you feel awesome. She uses amazing tools that look like they belong in a hospital room or a dental clinic, to take off all the dead skin from the soles of your feet and carefully sculpt the nails and remove any damaged dead dry tissue. Vera's mani/pedi is a unique and wonderful experience. Vera has her own corner of the world in the back of Make-Up-and-Go next to the Brentwood Country Mart. Vera has a great personality and values the skill and quality required for high-end service. She truly has pride in her work. I had a Shellac manicure. Vera took her time and even painted my individual nails to see the different colors to help me make the best color selection. Days later my nails are still fab. While you get the manicure, your feet are soaking in the water. Yes! Your feet should soak for a while vs. a quick dip at every other generic nail salon. Vera finishes your hands; they look beautiful, and then the magic happens. So how to describe this? Vera has a special pedicure chair - not the spa chair with a water bin by your feet. It's like a dentist chair, but cushiony and comfy. My feet have never had so much attention (my boyfriend was kinda upset when I told him this). Vera uses a special machine to groom your feet. It's a gentle sanding tool with different drill bits that Vera changes throughout depending if she's working on your cuticles, heels, toes or calluses. This pedicure is pain free and you leave with super soft feet and pretty toe nails. Vera gives you moisturizer oil for your Shellaced nails and a sample of the foot specialist moisturizer made with rosemary, pine and lavender - yum! Life if full of trade-offs. The complete mani-pedi is expensive and it takes time. If I had the time and money, I would go to Vera every time for all my mani/pedi's. It's worth it, but you should call for prices. Absolutely love Vera! Visited Santa Monica a couple weekends ago and thank goodness she was available on last minute notice. I have an pinched toenail that's a constant painful problem that no ordinary nail salon can fix. She has a special machine that does it all... From filing and pushing the cuticles back, it's like a dental machine with parts that change depending on what she's working on specifically. My feet and toenails were so clean, I didn't want to put polish on them! She also applied a German salve cream on the cracks of my feet that was so soothing, I bought a tube I take home. Vera is the only nail technician I've ever gone to that has actually succeeded in helping me grow my nails. What most nail salons won't tell you is how badly nail polish actually dried out your nails. Every time I'd grow my nails enough to actually get them done, I'd go back 2 or 3 more times to maintain them and somehow they were worse than when I started. Wow! Vera really is one-of-a-kind! I called on Friday and made an appointment for Saturday at 10:45am. She was super upfront about the cost of her medical grade pedicure service. She is located inside Dr. Laser, which I've passed millions of times and never would have thought contained such hidden treasure. She has this incredible German technology, which she wielded upon my feet. I'm always bare footed or in flip-flops and my regular nail guy (who is otherwise supremely adept and consistently delivers the best and most precise shape) just can't seem to get the dead skin off with the funky little infomercial tool he uses. Vera has the real deal equipment. My feet feel like they can breathe again! They feel completely revitalized. Highly recommended for the dead skin removal alone. WONDERFUL manicure and pedicure! Vera was very meticulous, sensitive and skilled in her work. She also was extremely kind and easy to talk to, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. I did a shellac manicure in a beautiful pale pink that Vera suggested. The color was perfect - very classy and matched with everything. My manicure lasted well over two weeks and my natural nails seemed even stronger afterwards. The ONLY negative to this experience was the price! I saw reviews on Yelp that said she was pricey but I didn't realize it would be THAT expensive. (Her prices are comparable to those of nail treatments at a luxury hotel spa.) The skin on my heels was deeply cracked. To make things worse, I had developed a long term habit of picking and pulling at the skin. I knew I needed help, but until Vera showed me pictures of the bottom of my feet I didn't know how bad they really were. After my first appointment, there was significant improvement. She told me it would take three to four monthly appointments to repair the deeper cracks and skin tears. In between visits, I was to use a special cream she provided for severely hard and dry skin. After the first appointment I stopped picking my skin. After three months, my heels and feet became smooth and soft. I continue to visit Vera once a month. Very pricey, but definitely worth it if you can afford it. Vera is a cute older Russian lady who's been doing nails for decades and it shows. She does a great job and works quickly although the full mani-pedi experience takes about an hour and a half. I wanted to try the shellac gel manicure and she took the time to explain the pros and cons of getting one. She made me feel very comfortable and was very easy to talk to. She shaped my nails exactly as I wanted, making sure to tell me that she wanted me to tell her if there was something I wanted changed. I'm someone who usually doesn't speak up in those situations, so this was very important to me. The pedicure portion was definitely beyond what you normally get. The setup looks a lot like something you would see at a dentist office. The chair is awesome and I felt like a queen because she raises it super high. She took the time to show me different colors, first swiping it on paper, then on her own nails. I ended up choosing a combination of two colors layered. I also found it really fun that you soak your feet (perfect temperature with epsom salts!) at the normal manicure table and then wheels you over to the pedicure chair. For the pedicure, I have calluses, so she rubbed some quick action callus softening liquid on my calluses first and let it sit while she worked on my nails. She has a little machine with an attachment that has interchangeable heads, like the ones you see at dentist offices. She used several to smooth my nails and push back my cuticles, and one to file down my calluses. There was a very noticeable difference after and I think that after a few more treatments, I would have baby soft feet. Bonus: she validates parking and the Make Up and Go store Vera works out of has its own reserved parking spaces. read more
