We had an incident here and I had put a bad rating at first and then called the restaurant. I am very vocal to businesses because as a business person myself, I want to help them improve and be successful. I also want customers to be treated well and be safe. This was the first time a Vietnamese business owner appreciated my feedback and did not try to make lame excuses, talk down, insult, or tell me off for it. I LOVE Hainan Chicken and this is definitely a great alternative for SAVOY when I'm in Orange County! I heard a lot of noise being made about Com Ga Nam An by some OC folks who take their food pretty seriously on my Facebook newsfeed. Last Friday, I went to Koogai Salon in the same plaza as Nam An to meet (and possibly gossip) with Vanessa N while she got her hair colored (she went darker... to match her soul... if you really must know...) and trimmed by the fabulous Alek. After he finished making her pretty, we decided to get lunch. We jumped in her car and tried to think of somewhere to get our noon time grub on... and then I remembered that Nam An was in the same plaza so we drove to the other side of the lot. We really could have just walked, but we were already in the car, so that was that. As soon as Vanessa finished parking, which took a few tries, we entered the restaurant and were both pretty surprised by how clean the restaurant was... literally and stylistically. The design of the restaurant is simple, there isn't gaudy wall art, the furniture all matches and everything is a very neutral tone that is instantly brightened up by all the natural light that flows through the floor to ceiling glass windows and door that spans the width of the restaurant. Next up we scanned the menu to see what Nam An was serving up... and we both decided to try the namesake dish, the Com Ga (chicken & rice) with a cam vat (fresh squeezed oj) for Vanessa and soda chanh (fresh limeade made with Perrier, mind you!) for myself. The service was quick and we soon received our drinks. Next up came the soups (makes me kinda wish that Savoy's chicken & rice dish came with a bowl of soup)... and then it blew my mind when I saw that the soup was filled with chicken offal and a fresh chicken egg (makes me REALLY wish that they offered this at Savoy!) in a addition to some ginger and green veggies. The rice plates came last and it was nicely presented with a mound of seasoned rice, a small pile of deboned Hainan chicken with skin intact, and some green Vietnamese herbs and slices of tomato. Sauces included a traditional dark soy sauce, ginger/scallion oil sauce, and a ginger/garlic fish sauce. The deboned chicken was really juicy and tender, I really loved that it was deboned because all the com ga places I've been to in OC had always had bones and I like to not have to fuss with bones when I'm out in public. The portion of chicken here isn't huge but it's not tiny... I'd say it's just right... at times when I eat at Savoy I have to make an effort to finish the serving of chicken that they put on the plate. The ginger/garlic fish sauce is a bit thicker than the usual nuoc cham fish sauce and is delicious with the meal, but still doesn't compare to the spicy garlic sauce offered at Savoy. The rice at both Nam An and Savoy are deliciously cooked with the chicken stock and seasoned perfectly, so they're pretty much on par here. The chicken & rice dish here is more Vietnamese leaning rather than Savoy's Singaporean influenced dish and in the end I still like Savoy's rice, chicken, and sauces more but Nam An has the side of hot soup with offal! Like I said in the beginning, it's a great alternative to Savoy when I'm in OC and craving a good dish of Hainan Chicken & Rice! read more

Stop pretending that you're so above anything; we see through it, I see through it. Even the way the tables are cleaned up is unsightly; these waiters dumping the drinking water, sauce, and pho soup all in one bucket, and dumping the dishes and cups all in the bucket, and carrying it back sloshing in between dining tables. I have never worked in a restaurant that allowed that. Please use a serving tray and clean it up with a little bit more dignity and a sanitary touch. Overall, au revoir to my patronage to this establishment. I'm done trying to see you grow from an awkward teenager to a responsible respectable adult. I'd like to seek other establishments that deserve my $10 for a bowl of pho served with care and respect and attention to detail. Originally went into this plaza looking for the Tea Lounge but it was way too crowded so we opted for dinner. And this place was right behind there. Wait time wasn't long at all since we came in on a Tuesday night. First off, presentation of the food right away let you know that they are going for a much more high-end, modern theme with their food. Nice white square plates, chicken organized and set neatly away from the rice and garnishes all put neatly in the corner with separate sauce. Portions are appropriately sized and not "American sized." What really got me was the sauce you poured onto the rice and chicken. It was really, really flavorful and had just the right balance of spiciness, sweet and fishy. I really liked the chicken as well. Besides being presented so neatly, it was juicy and tender. Overall, I would recommend this to other people to try for the Hainan Chicken. Don't expect huge portions though, I get the feeling they are going for the gourmet type of food. It is a bit difficult to see from the road since the old Spires restaurant blocks it from view and has construction stuff fenced around it. This place is a hidden gem! Tucked away behind TeboTebo, this place has some of the best chicken dishes I have ever eaten. We arrived at 15 minutes before they closed and still let us in. They brought out everyone's order but one, and they knew there was one order left at our table..bleh anyways My favorite had to be the dry yellow noodles with lemon grass chicken. We ordered an extra thigh and it ended up being the perfect chicken to rice ratio for us. For the Mien Ga, the chicken came a good ten minutes after the mien soup so the soup wasn't hot anymore by the time I was ready to eat. Possibly one of the best hainan chicken with rice dish I've had in a while. My husband and I both ordered the #1 special with skin-on dark meat and it definitely hit the spot. The chicken was tender and cooked just right. There were side sauces and ginger to add to the chicken for extra flavor. To me, the chicken itself would be lacking flavor if I didn't add the mixed ginger and chili sauce to it (but I'm sure that's why the side sauces were there). Overall: In comparison to itself before, you're definitely getting more food but the quality is not as good and the service is declining. Food: 2 They're giving you more, so the price is more reasonable according to Viet standards. My only complaint is inconsistency in the ingredients used. For those unfamiliar with Viet food, we use Ga Di Bo (Viet free range chickens). They're are 2 types, one smaller and one larger. They usually use the smaller one but they switched to the bigger one today. It was also flavorless compared to the normal chicken. Service: 1 Abysmal, even compared to Viet standards, is the only way to describe this sudden drop in hospitality. My mom asked for paper towels as the bathrooms were out. The waiter silently continued his work then walked (without a word) to the bathroom, pulled out a roll of towels, let her take a bit, and then put it away. Uhh...hello?! Your bathroom is out of paper, why don't you refill the dispenser bro? The last few times I came I noticed that it was empty but I assumed that it was just because it was late. I've been here twice - once with Victor N. after getting my hair did up at Koogai in the same plaza and another time with my family on Christmas day. First, let's address issues you may face before even getting into the restaurant: parking. Oh, boy. Parking is a pain in the ass. When Victor met up with me at Koogai, we were trying to figure out where to grab lunch. We got into my car and literally 30 seconds later we thought "oh hay, Com Ga Nam An just opened, let's go there!" Ugh, should have walked our butts over there - it would have been quicker than the cluster-eff of parking outside Com Ga Nam An. Parking is tight, spaces are narrow, and everyone's competing for parking (you got Tebo Tebo, Tip Top, Hot Pot and now Com Ga Nam An). If you manage to find a parking spot, you're golden. Now let's eat. The first time i came here I had the Com Ga Nam An (as VIctor describes in his review). It came with soup with all the chicken innards and young egg and amazingness - all for just $1 extra. Legit. The chicken and rice are actually fantastic. The chicken is already deboned, the sauces provided with the dish delicious and the rice fragrant. LOVED IT. Service was great since we were there during lunch and they were somewhat busy with your Real Housewives of Westminster brunching with friends. Service was A LOT slower when I came on Christmas day with my family - granted, they were one of the few restaurants open on Christmas day. Nonetheless, my family had agreed to Com Ga Nam An on Christmas Eve because we all wanted to try this dish. So our family of 14 (10 adults, 4 children) convened here at 6:30PM. Thank goodness they took us and we managed to get all of our food and our requests for extra forks and last minute drink orders were all served (with some hiccups along the way of course). There was a party that showed up after us and the restaurant actually turned them away - which I respect since they were a bit overwhelmed. I ordered the goi ga (chicken cabbage salad) because I wanted some greens after a weekend of roasts and fried food. My family ordered various dishes and I got to try the Xoi Ga Nam An (their namesake dish but with sweet sticky rice). DELISH. Next time I'm going to order sweet sticky rice/xoi ONLY. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I go here at least once a week. First off, I've had everything on the menu. I really recommend sticking to the chicken dishes. There are two dishes that aren't chicken(ie). They're ok (I think fishy type soups). What really stands out is the Hainan chicke/rice and their dipping sauces. Yummy good. The lemongrass chicken with crispy sticky rice is also awesome. It's my favorite at the moment. If you're sick get the chicken congee or chicken pho and fresh squeezed orange juice. Their broth is really special. I think they must roast the chicken bones or something. Even my picky daughter loves this place. We get her the chicken egg noodle soup. And she chows down. If you're watching your weight or trying to eat less carbs their chicken salad is a great choice. It's so good you really don't feel like you're missing out on anything. The place is modern and clean. My daughter loves the booths in the back. The wait staff is young and pretty inexperienced. So get your order right and order everything you need up front. Me and a friend checked this place out for lunch the other day from a recommendation from another friend of mine. This place specializes in chicken dishes, so we went with that. I ordered their version of Hainan chicken, also called chicken rice depending on where you're eating. Having eaten the stuff my whole life, it's sometimes greasy and leaves a sheen of oil on your lips. And a very simple dish. Com Ga's version was quite good. Tender and moist chicken pieces, their rice cooked in broth with herbs to give off a fragrant aroma and overall not all the greasy. The plating is simple and served with a side of broth. i came here with my family for the first time. We ordered : " Pho Gà with goi gà xé phay, Mien măng gà with goi gà, Com gà nuong xa ot" The girl waitress brought out a Chicken salad ( goi gà) and she doesn't know which order is it for. ??!! I ate some of it, then found out it wasn't for my order. When we about to ask her about that, she just took off with no attention at all!! OMG!! I WAS SO MAD!! The egg from my soup was cold in the middle. The "pho gà" doesn't have authentic taste. Then they for got to bring out the bamboo shoot for the "mien"!! The lemon grass grilled chicken ( gà nuong xa ot) was so greasy and wasn't that good neither..! My mom told the owner about the "pho gà" and he replied " this is wat it supposed to taste like". We have nothing to say! They put a lot of MSG, we could tell afterward!! NEVER COME BACK AGAIN! read more
