I'm a big fan of Bún mắm , always on the lookout for a place that serves it well to satisfy my cravings. I've tried many spots, and so far, this is the one I'm most satisfied with. The broth is aromatic with lemongrass and full of rich flavor. I especially enjoyed the little bowl of tamarind fish sauce for dipping the toppings, it reminded me of the style from my hometown. The seasoning was just right for me. The vegetable platter was generous, fresh, and had a nice variety. Service was a bit slow since there was only one young man that day and the restaurant was quite busy. Still, he was very enthusiastic and attentive, which made up for it. There's plenty of parking in front of the restaurant, when I visited

My beautiful big bowl of soup. I requested no fish, otherwise this dish will include fish.

We went on a weekday around 10:30am and the restaurant was only had one table occupied. That's how I like it. We decided we try the bun mam based on yelp's reviews. I will give 5 stars for this dish. I can tell the ingredients they used were fresh from the herbs plate to the seafood topping. The taste was great, not too sweet and did not smell fishy. Service was great and free hot tea is a plus for me. Parking is plenty during weekday. Will be back to try other items on the menu

My new fave spot for Bun Mam. Super clean, nice waiters and the food is great! The bun mam broth is so delicious, not too salty or sweet..just the perfect amount of fermented fish and you can the lemongrass. The toppings are good. Highly recommend if you want to try bun mam. Will be sending my friends and fam here :)

My dad got this to go so I cant really speak about service or ambiance but the bun mam was fire. The broth was fragrant, full bodied, and full of umami. They gave us so much of the toppings so protein lovers and nutritionists will like this one. The only thing holding back is that we wish there was a bit more broth. The ratio of contents to broth is slightly off. Other than that, actual flavor bomb

This is one big piece of fish, be careful, it has tiny bones in it

I usually go for the combination pho or the bun bo hue but I never tried the fermented fish noodles soup and I read some of the reviews on Yelp, and it sounds delicious so I came here on a recommendation from a Yelpers lol. It did not disappoint, the restaurant seems small from the back entrance, maybe there's another front entrance too but I didn't look, I just sat down. When I entered, they lady at the register was sitting down feed her newborn baby and there's a young man on his I pad sitting by the wall. They didn't really acknowledge me until i said hello and only one person lol, they were too busy when I was the only second person in there eating. The service was quick but the chicken wings that I ordered took a little longer, frying it fresh takes a little longer but is worth the wait. I ordered their special, # 8, fermented fish noodles soup with the chicken wings and I think I ordered hot water, who needs a drink when you have so much broth lol. They fermented soup is really pungent, the smell of fish sauce fills the air. You would think it might be salty but is not, is the opposite, is actually sweet. With all the seafood and fresh herbs, it goes really well together. There was a big chunk of fish right on top and the presentation was flawless, it was perfect. I like beautiful presentation of the food, then you know they put a lot of effort into making it and it will taste delicious. The service can be a little better but like most Asian restaurants, after they bring your food, they leave you alone to eat in peace or until you need something, then you flag them down and they come over. After I ate 1/3 of my noodles, they brought out the chicken wings with loquat sauce, it was presented beautifully, it was still hot, just came out of the fryer. It was like a honey/loquat sauce, is sweet and crispy, is delicious. I ate 3 and took home 3 for my mom to try. I would come back if I'm near by and would definitely recommend this restaurant. If you're craving something different other than the normal pho, this place is great. Thanks for a great meal.

I was here for Bun Mam and it was good! Good amount of toppings. Service was awesome. Price was reasonable. I would come back again next time I'm in town.

5 stars for the bun mam. Probably one of the best bun mam in OC. Lots of fresh veggies (like 6 different kinds) and lots of toppings (shrimp, fish, squid, fish cake, pork belly, eggplant). Some reviewers said the broth is a little sweet for them, but I thought it was perfect. Very flavorful and not sweet at all for me. Other places make it so salty. Portion is huge. Price is reasonable. Iced tea is free and good strong flavor.

Great food and services!! Nice and clean environment!! First time being here and falling in love already lol

    Bún mắm

I like the bún mắm here. The broth is more on the sweeter side which suits my family's palate. Has all the good toppings in a proper bun mam. Yummy

Great food and a very pleasant dining experience. The dishes were fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The service was friendly and attentive, making us feel very welcome. The restaurant also has a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, which makes it a great place to enjoy a meal. As a nice bonus, they provide free iced tea for guests. Highly recommended!

Follow the food group comment , come here to try Bun mām. Nice service, small& clean restaurant. Bun mām was great ( the taste as people of western Vietnam) If you fan of Mãm stop by try here , the soup not very salty as some of the other restaurants. I will be back to try another item in here.

Tried their Bun Mam and Hu Tieu Nam Vang. Bun Mam is tasty but on the sweet side. Bun Mam needs to be on the salty side with a squeeze lime will balance it. The broth is a bit thin in texture, it needs to be thicker. Topping is fine but missing boiled pork belly slices. The fish isn't fresh or overcooked, the meat lost its texture. Overall 7/10. The Nam Vang is decent, nothing special and nothing is bad. Service is quick and the interior is clean.

Mai Phat still exceeded them! It has since become our go-to lunch spot, as well as a local favorite for my wife's family. They specialize in egg noodles - served either dry (with broth and main protein on the side) or wet like a conventional soup bowl. My personal go-to is the dry mì sủi cảo - egg noodles with sliced / ground pork, huge wonton dumplings, a shrimp cracker, and broth on the side. The wontons come in a super rich and delicious sauce that I actually got scolded for pouring over my noodles lol. The light and clear broth is very refreshing and well-seasoned. Excellent mix of perfectly balanced flavors from every component. Add chili crisp for extra oomph. My wife loves the mì gà quay - fried chicken leg & thigh with the signature egg noodles. This is honestly one of the most perfectly seasoned and cooked fried chicken I've ever had, and I've had a LOT of fried chicken. Service was prompt, friendly, and attentive Highly recommend Mai Phat for hearty, expertly crafted, and relatively guilt free Vietnamese comfort food

I noticed another gentleman by himself at a table for four people. Hmmmm. Anyhow, there were about five tables total inside or maybe six. It was very warm inside since there is no AC. This is a type of life where you eat and leave as quickly because it's a no-frills no ambience type of place. That's fine with me except it was pretty hot. They charge you a dollar for a little tiny paper cup of water. I ordered the number one since this is their specialty or what they're known for. My mom had the bun thit nuong cha gio. My noodle soup had a good amount of crab pieces and shrimp. It seemed like there was not a lot of noodles though. I thought the broth was a little bland. I guess I'm just not a big fan of this type of soup. If there is a next time, I'll try the bun rieu. My mother was not that crazy about her dish. She said she didn't really like the egg rolls that much. For the price, the wait and the taste of the food, I likely will not be returning when there are so many other places in the area. I try to support various mom and pop restaurants, but for the previous stated reasons, I don't think we'll be back.
