Dimsum breakfast in Portland, Oregon…read more.. After 8am mass, we drove to Excellent Cuisine because it was nearby and because I saw a photo of the piggy buns. However, we were too full to order piggy buns and we didn't see them on the rolling wagons. Thinking that it would be crowded, we arrived before opening time and saw that there were about six people waiting to get in. LOL! We were guaranteed a first round seat! Service was efficient since we sat near the kitchen - so we could see what's coming out fresh and hot! I asked if there were taro puffs (my niece's favorite) and hom sui gok (my dad's favorite). These fried items would be coming on the next wagon, but the server went and got them for us! Wow! Thanks! We got shrimp and chive dumplings and plain shrimp dumplings from this stemed items wagon. Of course, we had to have custard tarts and the cute piggy and ducky-shaped puddings! The coconut and mango flavors were subtle. We liked the coconut more, even though the ducky wiggled more! This was a really fun and tasty meal! We wouldn't mind returning! We appreciated the free shared parking, convenient restroom, and beautiful, clean environment!

On a drizzly March Sunday in Downtown Portland After seeing the gorgeous Cherry tree blossoms along…read morethe Willamette river, we stopped in at Xin Ding on SW 2nd Avenue. The place was full of hungry locals and tourists but was uncustomarily quiet and calm. From the hostess that seated us, to the waitress and servers, all staff and management were extremely polite, positive and helpful. We were starving. So we ordered 3 entrees and side of Dry-fried String beans. The Green Beans were cooked perfectly and the serving size was generous! One of our new favorites is the Mongolian Chicken. Is not a spicy Chinese food dish but the moist chicken and seasonings produced a yummy & comfort food level dish! As usual, the lightly battered & deveined Butterfly prepared Salt & Pepper Shrimp was mouthwatering, with every bite. As the last entree to be served. The ten Chicken & Vegetable Dumplings were fresh and flavorful. Needless to say, with only 2 patrons eating lunch with 3 heaping entrees plus Dry-fried String beans and white rice - we took home 2 more meals worth of Chinese food leftovers. Definitely dine in at this Old Town location or order To Go!

Duck House is absolutely incredible! Let me start by saying…read moreChinese food is usually not my first choice when dining out, but this place completely changed my mind. Every dish we ordered was off-the-charts delicious. We had: * Garlic dry green beans * Szechuan Dan Dan noodles * Beef dry pot * Pork soup dumplings I wouldn't change a single thing--everything was perfectly seasoned, full of flavor, and served fresh and hot. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, great for a relaxed night out. If you're even thinking about trying this place, stop thinking and just go. Duck House is now officially at the top of my dining list!

The fried rice's flavor was pretty muted..I prefer a little saltiness in my fried rice and it honestly had barely any salt? It tasted like plain rice with a little soy sauce and maybe oil flavor? Just not very aromantic in general.. I disliked the Mandarin Crispy Chicken the most as I had an issue with the breading. It was very thick and each bite felt more breading than chicken..The flavor of the sauce was good but with how thick the breading was, the inside of the chicken had no flavor at all once I bit in.. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items, but I don't think I'll be back to try any others at least for now. It was a Friday night so it was busy but I'll say service was good and we had a minimal wait time!

My husband's work took him to Shanghai a number of times, and he tells me our visits to Pure Spice remind him of some of his favorite restaurants he'd frequent there. Here's a fun tip! When your favorite Dim Sum places in Portland aren't serving, remember Pure Spice has a permanent Dim Sum menu they serve during all open hours. You'll find a lot of your favorites there. Visitors will find a daily specials board with listings written in Mandarin! This restaurant definitely has the "if you're in the know, you're in the know" kind of vibe. Just ask the servers to translate if you have any questions. And don't be sheepish about asking questions, or flagging someone down if you need anything. This place can get busy with a lot of regulars who may not respect first come, first served conventions. I don't know, I think it just adds to the local flavor - and makes me want to become a regular as well. Give Pure Spice a shot and let me know what you think!
