I'm very sorry, but I just can't write much positive about this place. On recommendation from a friend. I decided to have a group of us meet for breakfast. Our server was friendly& accommodating. It's the place, the food that I found to be very distasteful. I may have tried 4 different chairs before I found one without a torn seat cover. My coffee cup was badly nicked & to be honest once the two issues occurred I played it safe, deciding to only order dry toast. My dining companions weren't too pleased with what they ordered but it appeared that they consumed what was served to them & did not complain to the server. Happened upon this unassuming diner through a Google search for something near Newburyport MA - we had tried all the bfast places there and were feeling adventurous. Exciting selection of entries, delicious food, great service. My only minor disappointment was the oversalting of the corned beef hash made it almost uneatable. One funny story - we like to eat at a place with a view and I called to see if the "Marshview" in the name meant it overlooked a marsh. The person answering sounded somewhat bemused and answered that there was a marsh behind it and windows all around. We were encouraged by that info. However, not surprisingly after that phone call, it actually overlooks an industrial part of Route 1, though there are marshes visible behind the debris. For starters instead of coffee I decided to get the mocha latte as shown on their specialty coffee and we waited and finally 10 minutes later I got my later and it was warm not hot so that was a bummer the taste was good but I will not get again. For breakfast I got the Marshview omelette with home fries and white toast it was good the home fries taste like crunchy fries. The corned beef is homemade it was good. My son had the apple French toast and he ate it but he definitely had better elsewhere. My husband the hungry man breakfast and it was good. I was looking for an amazing breakfast afterwards and Nancy's reviews sent me there. The food is fantastic. The constant crowds there attest to that. Staff is super friendly and efficient. Atmosphere is clean and unpretentious, just like a diner should be. Their coffee is excellent and they offer all coffee drinks (lattes espressos etc. only $21 for two wonderful breakfasts . This place is awesome for brunch type foods. Went today and the Mrs. got an item called the "Rte. 1 pile up" which consisted of hash, hash browns, 2 eggs, hollandaise sauce and 2 slices of freshly baked cinnamon raisin bread. She absolutely loved it. I had a couple bites and it was awesome. It was something straight out of the food networks show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives". I got the cheeseburg club with fries, and it was great. This place has a simple menu with simple ingredients, but sometimes less is more. With most/all of the items being homemade, it is now our favorite place for breakfast/brunch/lunch. read more

Friendly folks and a great place for breakfast or for picking up a birthday cake! They have superior coffee vs your average coffee shop acidic coffee so I really think that makes it for me. Great eggs and sandwiches. Some of their bread is homemade too! Ps they make great birthday cakes but call ahead. read more

My boyfriend and I are always so happy to go here , food is wonderful staff is great super nice ! The only down side is its always packed and we never get to sit at a table and we are always stuck sitting at the bar table thing, maybe you could add more tables and seating ?? I got an ice coffee with the flavor brewed in that was just delicious! I also got avocado toast to-go which was fantastic, and it was a plentiful serving! Used to consider myself a regular here...would drive with the family on special occasions Not sure what happened over the last year, but Nancy's has gone downhill. Change of management? Not enough staff in the kitchen? Come here on the weekend and you'll wait 20 minutes for a seat (no where to sit and wait) 15 minutes to give a drink order and if you're lucky, 35 minutes for your food... Food will come out cold and somehow overcooked, especially if you get the home fries or omelettes. No options for people with celiacs or gluten free. Very disappointing that they can't offer BREAD- most breakfast places have it these days... very sad to have someone in the family sit out because of lack of accomodation in these days. Maybe better for those with celiacs , you don't have to pay for burned cinamon raisin bread. Skimpy portions either on plates way too tiny or way too big. Overpriced drinks, no alcohol, and no free refills... Want a baked good? STAY AWAY!!!! we were warned by multiple people and still decided to give them a chance, shouldve listened!!! Place was filthy with food n napkins on the floor, and the tables were dirty with crumbs. I ordered an omelet and instead they brought scrambled egg whites!!!! I had to send it back for the "right" order, for which as a courtesy they never aknowledged on the bill. The side was pancakes which were overcooked on the outside but doughy n undercooked on the inside. The coffee was stale and the orange juice was warm. And for "experience" it cost us 40.00 including tip!!!! Remember youve been warned, STAY AWAY!!! ps-owner replied saying since they re-made me my order they do not see the need to "as a courtesy" adjust the bill; she STILL misses the point! and she insinuated the reason why the place was filthy was because it was the sunday before a holiday and they were crowded, when in fact we were in there the place was empty! so i guess that makes it ok? save your money!!!! read more

There are lots of breakfast places to choose from in a 10 mile radius from my house. My wife and I have tried them all, and in many cases more than once. We have been going to Nancy's every weekend for about a year now, and if we lived 20 miles from the place it would still be worth the drive even if gas was near $5.00 a gallon. Here is what I like about this place... The food. The servers. The homemade baked goods. The incredible coffee and the mug it comes in. It's a tiny spot, the parking is tight and sometimes you have to wait for a table, but I implore you to hang in there. It's worth the wait. Short stacks, full stacks, home made corn beef hash, creative omelets, jazzy home fries, homemade muffins, sausage gravy.... All breakfast staples in these parts but done with style and attention to detail. The food is genuinely wonderful. The servers are like bees going from flower to flower, but they remember the regulars and will often step up to the table with what they know is your favorite beverage. They serve up a little sass with the food. (This is New England after all.). I like them all. Look in the bakery case and see homemade eclairs, muffins, pies, etc. This is the real deal. Someone rolls a lot of dough in the back... The coffee has strength and a hangover curing aroma. (My opinion) but the mug that it comes in completes the love affair... Perfect Perfect Perfect. If you have forgotten what a very good BLT tastes like then Nancy's BLT on sourdough with home-fries will get that memory back... In my opinion it all comes down to genuineness... I understand this is a family owned business, but not everyone is meant to run a business. Clearly, Nancy isn't either. Food has been disgusting every time I've gone with family, although my grandparents like the place, anyone who didn't live through the Great Depression would agree- food is bland, often times cold, and it's not rare to hear kitchen staff yelling at their underaged staff. We stopped into Nancys Marshview Cafe on a Sunday in October on our way to Newburyport. Upon walking in, I immediately picked up on a smell that I would have to describe as, "wet dog." Not exactly an appetizing smell for a restaurant. After we sat down, I realized the table was all sticky and the place smelled even more like an old wet dog then when I first walked in. The waitress approached and I noticed she had cat or dog hair all over her - also, was not an appetizing sight when I'm about to order breakfast. None the less, I ordered a veggie omelet with homefries and toast. The omelet was dry and disgusting, the homefries were tasteless and completely bone dry and the white toast tasted as if it had been drenched in a bucket of butter. There were dirty tables all around us and food on the floor all over the old carpet. This was probably one of the worst breakfast/brunch experiences I ever had. Completely unappealing business and even worse food. I highly suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

For those who read any of my other reviews, You know that I try to be objective, accurate, and try to present the review in a good spirit. That said, Grandma and I went back to NMV and I was really hoping for the best but low, they have not changed a bit. They did not fail to disappoint me. The coffee was ok and the tea was hot. Service was good. Grandma really liked the Italian omelet. But, she ordered also a blueberry biscuit and it arrived with the omelet's tomato sauce on the biscuit. The waitress realized nobody puts tomato sauce on a blueberry biscuit so she brought a separate dish for the biscuit, but still with the tomato sauce. We didn't believe she did that. The right thing to do would have been to get a fresh biscuit. I ordered the 2-2-2, pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs. I got 2 silver dollar size pancakes (the menu did say that exactly), the scrambled eggs arrived as over easy eggs, and 2 really sad looking pieces of bacon. Needless to say I left there hungry. Most other places at least serve a medium size pancake short stack. And, the kicker is that the pancakes were not good, especially for a bakery, really disappointingly they were not fluffy and stuck to the roof of my mouth. I often wonder on occasion like this whether the staff ever looks at the plate and asks themself, "does this meal reflect well on my restaurant?". It's not really bad food so I have to give them some stars, but they are full of surprises, and I never had even one meal there I liked. But, needless to say, I will probably go back there again in a few months and subject myself to "pot luck breakfast". ha! ha! read more

This place is a bit of a hidden gem. The service is very very friendly, fast, accommodating. The food is very good, generous servings, very cheap. They have a breakfast burrito on the menu and while New England is not known for their breakfast burritos, this one is actually pretty darn good. Have you ever been chased out of a restaurant by the owner? I have! The service was horrendous and they were not even busy - I literally thought the owner (who came out of the kitchen into the parking lot to yell at me, my friend and her 8 yo son - as she tells me how short handed they were) was coming to apologize. It turns out that her daughter-in-law was our waitress - sorry lady the service industry isn't for everyone - No coffee refill (asked 3 times) no silverware - butter or syrup - got our food to stare at it. My friend had some funky giant scrappy potato skin thing in her home fries. Yup... and WE got yelled at! Lunatic!! We are seasonal in the area for the past 10 years - and we have and will continue to dissuade people from going here. read more

I recently moved to Newburyport and this place instantly became one of my favorites. I go here for breakfast every chance I get. I have also had a custom birthday cake made here. It was a tiramisu cake so I was told that writing on it would be difficult because of the powdery topping. I told the woman taking my order that it's okay if it isn't possible to write on the cake, but to my surprise when I picked it up, the cake not only had "Happy Birthday" written on it, but it was also decorated with frosting flowers on top. It was delicious, and I appreciated the amount of effort put in to making this cake special. The only criticism I have is that one time I ordered the Belgian waffle with blueberries and whipped cream and it was cold and stiff. I couldn't eat it. The waitress politely explained that "the blueberries and whipped cream cool the waffle down quite a bit and it always comes out this way". However, I really don't think that they should have it on the menu if it comes out this way every time. That's no excuse, there are ways to make it hot (warm the blueberries up before hand)... This has been my only negative experience and they took it away and did not charge me for the plate. Anyway - I still love the spinach and tomato eggs Benedict and everything else I have had on the menu tasted great! read more

This place is fantastic!! It's my favorite breakfast diner. You walk in and seat yourself. It's never ridiculously busy, so that's not hard. The layout is pretty neat-- most of it is a low catwalk-like bar with stools, and there are booths off to the side. The food is surprisingly cheap, but hot damn, it is soooo good. So good. And the portions are huge! I almost always have to take some home, or get half-orders. Even half-orders are PLENTY. With the eggs benedict, you get four eggs and two english muffins with whatever variety you ordered's fixins smothering them. The omelets take up the whole plate, and are always perfect. Their bacon is crispy, and thick. Great coffee! They let you know what kinds of coffee they have that morning-- you never know what you're going to be offered. It's always given super-hot (same as the food), so be careful. Haha. This cute younger waitress with short hair and glasses is my favorite, but all the waitresses there are attentive and friendly. They know everything on the menu and have their own favorites, so don't be afraid to ask what theirs is if you've never been. I always leave stuffed, and grinning like a fool. You can never go wrong with their eggs Benedict! I am a huge fan of their baked beans but go easy at first as they are hot as lava when they come out of the kitchen! I have been here a lot and breakfast is always good. It is one of the only breakfast places in the area with espresso. Lunch is just ok. Corn chowder has sugar added to it--someone obviously likes it this way, but it is too sweet for me. Fish chowder is tasty, but mostly celery and 2 small tiny pieces of fish. Amazingly awful! Rude service. I hate to give this place even ONE star. Waited over 45 minutes for breakfast. Had to go up to the counter twice. Was told that they were very busy. Ok. But a third of the tables were empty. When breakfast came, it was slapped down on the table in front of us. And it wasn't what we ordered. Called the waitress back. What's wrong with the hollandaise? she demanded. Well, we didn't order it. This is not what we ordered. She snatched up both plates up and stalked away. Now I've worked in food services and the last thing you want to do is piss off your wait staff. So I was very polite and very respectful throughout this entire exchange. Even the people in tables around us were appalled to the point of actually talking to us about it. Was there an hour and did not get breakfast. Paid for our coffees and went to Angies! LOVE Angies!
