I've been here a couple times and although the selection on the menu is impressive, I find the flavor of the food is not. On one occasion we had the full clam bellies, which I'll admit is a find here in NC, but nothing taste wise like you'd experience somewhere like Cape Cod, so it was a disappointment. I've wanted to try the lobster roll, but was a bit skeptical based on one of the reveiws here. I took the plunge and have to say I was sorry I did. I could not taste anything, which was quite odd. Lobster with no taste?? Reluctantly I talked to the manager who nicely offered me anything else. I felt bad about accepting his offer, because afterall, it was lobster, but it really had no taste at all. He was much more understanding than the waitress who seemed almost offended. I got the crab cake instead and honestly, it was nothing to write home about either. The mashed potatoes were the highlight of my entree. My partner had the prime rib and also said she's had better elsewhere, but the au jus was excellent and improved the taste of the meat quite a bit. The place that they do shine is with their cakes and the only reason why I gave them three stars. Mile high is no joke. The strawberry shortcake is absolutely out of this world. The strawberries are fresh, the cake is moist, and the whipped creme is smooth and very creamy. The carrot cake is a bit too cinnamony for me, but still pretty tasty. The food here is excellent. Everything is seasoned to perfection. I so much want to like this place. The problem is the service is very slow and inattentive. I understand a place taking their time to prepare everything fresh. But I expect our waiter to check in regularly to make sure we're doing okay. This is the second time we've been to this restaurant. Both times we've had to wait ten minutes after being seated to our table before we even get water and a greeting from our server. This time after our meal was delivered we were in need of refills and a side of a condiment. We waited at least ten minutes without a sign of our waiter. I finally had to ask another waiter to send our waiter. At least while we were waiting I had an opportunity to chase after a roach to entertain us. (In all fairness, we were sitting outside. This might be normal for that kind of setting.). I want desperately to support local businesses. But if we are dropping over $100 for a meal there should be a certain level of attentiveness. I came with two others on a Thursday for lunch and ordered their "Pick 2 combo", choosing the bacon scallion quiche and clam chowder. The clam chowder was delicious. Apparently it's award winning, according to our waitress, and I can see why- perfect chunks of clams (neither overcooked and rubbery nor undercooked) and a perfect ratio of potatoes, cream and herbs. As for the quiche, mine was slightly over cooked such that the bacon and scallions on the top of the quiche were the type of crispy that is just overcooked. I did also get a half slice of their famous strawberry cake. Warning- the slices are massive!! Overall, great experience- the quiche is what made me give a 4 instead of a 5 read more

The food here is American but there are so many great things at this restaurant! I ordered the chili (amazing) and the blackened salmon salad (also amazing). I ordered and prepaid for a cake online five days before my husband's birthday. I received an online confirmation. When I went to pick it up, there was no cake. The manager checked at the chapel hill location. No cake there. He took my name to follow up. I got a different flavor cake they had on hand but no special message on the cake. I followed up via email and got no response (it's been a month now). No one ever reached out to me to apologize or let me know what happened to my order. I have lived near Nantucket for about 5 years now and I went for the first time for a team dinner. The weather was surprisingly nice (in the 70s) so we had dinner outside. I got the Atlantic Grilled Salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. I definitely want to go back to try their salmon scampi pasta. read more

We usually love this restaurant but our visit on 12/23/2022 was the worse. The restaurant was freezing. All patrons were sitting in coats and toboggans. Manager said they couldn't do anything about it which was untrue. We've been many times in the winter and did not have to eat in coats. Thermostat was set at 64 and the system was not broken. The food was terrible. Most of the food went back to the kitchen at the end of the night, even after sending back a steak to try to fix it, which didn't happen. Our table of six spent $350 and left hungry due to terrible food. Had to stop and get other food on the way home. When we complained to the manager, all she said was "I'm sorry." No compensation for a terrible experience or the terrible meal. We will not be going back to one of our formerly favorite restaurants. Shame on you Nantucket on taking money for an awful experience. read more

My visit was beyond my expectations. I have visit the Raleigh location but it was my 1st time at the Durham one. I like them both. The atmosphere though is very different but you receive the same great food. It was a awesome location for our Girl's Night Out. Our server was Kirsten and we received superb service. Lobster tails was the special and everyone but me got them. They were all very pleased. Even guests leaving on our way in suggested it. My heart was set on the Scallop Kabobs. Currently I am on the Keto diet and swapping the starch for a veggie was possible. The kabobs had this beyond delicious lobster cream sauce over them. I could eat a bowl of the cream sauce it was so good. There were a nice size of lobster chunks and the sauce was so flavorful. The scallops were cooked just right. They were tender and succulent. They were a nice size. The whole dish taste as good as it looked. My meal was the best. When you walk into the restaurant you are greeted with a whole cooler of delicious baked goods. I looked them over even though I knew I couldn't have any because of my diet. I was surprisingly incorrect. There was Keto cheesecake and Keto chocolate chip cookies. I was so happy I bought my sweets before I even sat down for dinner. The supply of the Keto friendly desserts appear to have been running low and I needed to ensure I had some. I was too stuffed after dinner to indulge but the next day at home I did. My husband's favorite dessert is cheesecake and he was reluctant to try a piece because it was Keto. He did and I almost didn't get the rest of my slice back. It was flavorful, a great texture and the best way to satisfy my sweet tooth craving. We came here with a group of about 15 for a graduation celebration & the service was friendly as as quick as humanly possible for the one server who attended to both tables. The crab dip was good and served with pita chips which is always the preference. For my entree I had the crab stuffed shrimp with loaded baked potato and asparagus. The stuffing was kinda light on the crab heavy on the stuffing but the flavor was pretty good. The asparagus was under-cooked (for my taste) and under seasoned also. It was just okay, nothing that I raved about later or have been craving since. OKAY SO before we left we had to order some cake. I had the traditional strawberry shortcake & it was absolutely amazing! the cake was moist and fluffy and the strawberry mixture was fresh, sweet with a tiny bit of tart. Unbelievably good.I was only in town for one day but when I left the next morning (Mothers Day) I made sure to stop by and pick up a slice for my Mom. The Nantucket Grill and Bar offers comfortable indoor, outdoor and bar seating. Outdoors, there is tasteful lighting for evening dining and umbrellas to shade you from the sun during the day. As you enter the restaurant, you can't help but notice to your right, the magnificent looking cake in the display case. Spotting these beautifully massive bricks of delicious sweetness just as you enter ..... makes it hard (at first) to concentrate on the main meal. I got over that quickly as I perused the menu sipping a glass of Cabernet. We were there just before 6:00 pm on a Thursday. There were plenty of customers but the place was certainly not full. The clientele increased rapidly as the evening progressed. Service was consistently good. Friendly and helpful wait staff. I had been traveling that day and did not feel like eating a super heavy meal. Consequently, I settled on the Fiesta Steak Salad. While I want to try the seafood the next time I visit, my salad was delicious. It started with a generous amount of tender and flavorful beef tenderloin filet. These tasty protein chunks were perched on a bed of mixed greens with carrots, onion, cucumbers and tomatoes. It also included banana peppers and ranch dressing. We finished the meal off with a giant piece of Thin-Mint cake which we shared and I also had a cup of coffee (not bad). Pleasant evening shared with my sister, brother-in-law and wife. I discovered Nantucket Bakery a couple of years ago and they have been my go to for cakes for birthday celebrations throughout the years. I recently ordered a cake for my 49th birthday from the Durham location bakery, and requested buttercream icing instead of whipped cream on my cake. To my disappointment, the frosting was not buttercream but whipped cream with confectioners sugar whipped in. Very difficult to enjoy. I sent an email to the bakery and left a voice mail as well to let them know the cake was not what I ordered and ask what went wrong. I was even more disappointed to not get any response after 2 weeks. I've had great cakes from Nantucket and have even called to compliment them on job well done. I'll continue to support them but felt someone should no about the disappointing experience I had with no response. I feel like customer service could be better. read more

I honestly don't know why people come to this place. The food isn't that great and it's WAY overpriced. Today was the last time I'm coming. I had the fish and chips, which was awful. The batter on the fish was a breading, almost like you'd get on a catfish ordered at a fry place. The fish was also really rubbery and dry, which means it was probably frozen when it was cooked. The chips weren't thick cut like English chips are supposed to be, but instead thin French fries. To top it off, there weren't very many of them. It came with a side of slaw so small I thought it had come from the salsa bar at Moe's. Also, the dish came with a side of cocktail sauce, which is just plain weird. This dish costs $17. For that price, everything better be top-notch quality-wise. My sister got the filet minion special, which was a 5oz filet and included one side. It was $18! I could also tell it was tough as she cut it. For a filet to be tough, it can't be very good quality. My wife had the blackened salmon salad, and she commented on how over-dressed it was. In addition, we all "qualified" for the free half slice of cake. They give it to you on Tuesdays if your meal costs over $15, which isn't hard to do because most of the menu is ridiculous cost wise. The crazy part about the free cake is it's already cut up and boxed to go, so you feel like your being kicked out of the restaurant by accepting it. I actually asked our server if it was ok to eat our desert at the table, considering the way we felt we were being treated by eating boxed cake. To finish, our server brought the credit card machine to our table to check out, where the tip was already "selected for my convenience" on the highest tip amount of 22%, which really rubbed me the wrong way, especially since she was standing over me as I signed the bill. In the end, I spent $77 for a meal for three people that no one at my table liked. I was actually embarrassed because I recommended the place. It was a big mistake on my part; one I will never repeat again. If you value your time on this earth, don't give one minute to this place. Took my fiancée and aunt here for dinner. They had a special 2 lobster tails for $25, I actually ordered the bbq monetary chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich is pretty basic, but the fries are really good. My aunt ordered the seafood pasta which she realLy enjoyed and my fiancée ordered the fries clam roll - which came with fries. Overall our meal was really good, I personally feel you can't come to Nantucket without getting their cake. I recommend if you want strawberry cake and it's towards the end of the night to have your server put a slice to the side for you. Otherwise you can't go wrong with the cake. My husband and I was looking for a "new" restaurant to try in the area one evening. We happen to run up on this place...it is in the out skirts of Durham. It's located in a strip with few little shops. Once arriving, this place was packed, with a waiting list. So right there tells you this place is gonna be gooooooood! We didn't have to wait long & were seated promptly, with a friendly waitress! On our way to our table we saw a cooler with homemade cakes....Lawd mercy...that was when I started to drool! Our waitress was the bartender and waited on a few tables out in the dining area. She was the bomb! Very attentive and super nice! She was very knowledgeable about the menu and of course the drinks at the bar. We ended up getting a bottle of wine that was recommended by her and it was perfect! We order prime rib steak special they had that night. It was very tender and tasty! We ended up taking a piece of cake home and eating it later...it was the bomb!!
