Napleton's Palatine Subaru is kind of like rancid meat to a stranded, starving person - you have to eat it because there's nothing else around but it makes you sick. I made an appointment to get a few things done and they took three days to tell me they can't figure out one of the problems and that they don't have the part to fix the other issue. So, they order the part and it takes longer than expected (probably not their fault). The part comes in and I schedule an appointment to drop off my car. I show up and have to wait because there's apparently only one guy who can help me and he's not available. I just had to sit and stare at the two service reps who appear to be doing nothing. If you have lots of time on your hands and enjoy sitting around car dealerships, Napleton Palatine Subaru is a great option! read more

Recently I had some lights go on in my car, check engine amongst others. My usual mechanic told me to call suburu to see if I had a recall because there had been recent recalls on some electrical systems. He thought my car may be an older model with too much mileage to fall under the recalls but to call and check as he didn't want to do the work of it was covered by suburu. The guy I talked to in service was really rude and told me that if my mechanic was a real mechanic he would know all the lights go on when the check engine light does and that he should have checked the vin to see if their were recalls. It was kind of strange that his first instinct was to bash another mechanic and to also try and make me feel ignorant. He didn't offer to look at the car. I won't go there for service or to buy a car there again and prob won't bother with Suburu again after this one. My service/warranty work experience has been excellent with Napleton's Palatine Subaru's service team. I had warranty work that I needed to diagnose at another dealership and they took my car out for a joyride/abused my car. I immediately called Napleton's Palatine Subaru and they took care of me perfectly. Phil and the service advisors that I worked with were apathetic to my requests and went the extra mile to make sure my car was safe. I was apprehensive because of my previous experience at the other dealership, but I was well taken care of and the car part was replaced well. We had an appointment with a salesman that we had met earlier in the summer but he had to leave earlier that day unexpectedly. On arrival we met with Sonny, who is a relatively new salesman. I took my car in on a Saturday and they stated it would take two weeks. It's week 1 and nothing has been done on the car. I asked for an update and they stated they need approval from Subaru when I have full coverage. I called myself to Subaru got in contact with an advisor and stated no case or approval needed as I have again full coverage. I called Phil and asked what was going on and he stated that I could pick up my car if I wanted rather than reassuring me that the process was going fine and it was just a waiting game on the parts or comments from engineer. I once when in for an oil change and Jim had stated that it was illegal for me to drive my car with poor breaks with a child. I went home and changed them myself and they were NOT bad. Which i could leave 0 stars , took my vehicle in for a check engine light and that was it . Had same issue two other times so I took it back so that they can hopefully figure it out . I had an issue with throttle body and they had replaced engine computer 3 times already . This time they told me that it needed a head gasket and after having engine out of vehicle they said I needed an engine . WTH how is that possible , anyways I have an extended warranty on my vehicle but service department all the sudden told the warranty adjuster that possibly all this was due to a possible computer tune because of some data that was stored. The warranty declined the repair and I was stuck with a vehicle with no engine . Strongly suggest you take your vehicle elsewhere because management won't do anything for you besides taking your money . Very disappointed with the service I received at this location . Then, they tried to make it up to me, by offering me a deal to sell me a more expensive car. Trying to upsell after this awful experience. Tacky. BEWARE!!! I would give a 0 Stars if I could.. I had a friend drive my Subaru over for a Eye Sight re-calibration after the windshield was replaced because I was out of town. **(The car was previously hit and already had the eye sight fixed and re-calibrated by a different Subaru Dealer once before.. Now a rock chipped the windshield recently so we had the windshield replaced and now needed the eyesight re-calibrated again)** They took advantage of my friend and told her that she needed to buy a $3,275 "warranty package" to be able to fix the eyesight to work.. She called me because she didn't know what to do, so I told her something is wrong and to not accept that warranty package.. So they charged her $138 for the visit because she came in and they looked at the car and told her they can only fix it with the warranty package.. We went to Grand Subaru, down the road and they had it fixed and ready to go within 1 Hour, with ZERO issues and without trying to scam us for over $3,000.. So on Napleton's Palatine Subaru's Invoice that we went to first, it said to call Chris Cantu Service Manager if we did not exceed or meet your expectations.. So I called and as soon as he picked up and I started saying, "I would like a refund for..., he right away smirked and said, "I'm not giving any refund".. I told him, I didn't even finish saying what the problem is.. When I finished telling him that we shouldn't be charged for the $138 as a "trip fee", when they couldn't fix a problem that a Dealer down the road fixed with no issues, he smirked again and said that he wont be giving any refund whatsoever.. Chris Cantu should not be working as a Service Manager when he has arrogance issues like this, taking advantage of people by trying to charge $3,275 for warranties and "trip charges" when it was THEIR own problem that they couldn't fix the eye sight.. My grandmother recently got into an accident. Upon my research we landed her on a Subaru Impreza premium with all the safety features we wanted for her. Palatine had this car in stock and a great inventory to choose from. From start to finish this was the best car buying experience my family has had ever. Salesman: Dan Garcia was hands down the best. Informative. Actually listened. Thorough and very genuine. Wasn't pushy and we felt comfortable throughout the whole experience. Go see him if you're in the market. Sales manager: Theo got involved when we got down to price. Super easy to work with, down to earth and fair. He wanted our business and made us feel welcome. On 12-27-23 I made a deposit on a car I considered buying. Within 2 days, I had decided not to purchase the vehicle; and I asked two different employees to refund my deposit. As of 1-22-24 my deposit had not been refunded; and I had to call the dealership to get this rectified. This should have been taken care of by the dealership before the beginning of the new year. I gave 2 stars because the sales person, Sheldon Joy, was very pleasant and helpful; however, no customer should have to request a refund three times, let alone wait almost a month for the refund to be processed. read more

They are charging $3,000 above MSRP for people trading in Subaru's. They are charging $5,000 MSRP above for non Subaru owners. I can understand an up-charge due to the current market. They are also charging $1,000 above it if you are customizing and buying direct from Subaru. I spoke with another dealership after leaving there and they do NOT charge extra when buying direct from Subaru. Also, Theo (I think was his name) tried to tell me that used cars are depreciating in value. However, I presented them with a car at their Schaumburg location clearly listed above MSRP. Should note: this was the same car as mine will 5,000 less miles, however it did not have the optional package added like mine. They offered me 4,000 less than what their website offered me for my car. Also, they do not adhere to their 500 military incentive offered on their website. When I bought the car I was coming in to try and trade, they offered me less that 400 and told me it was only 100, "it's not that big of a deal". When I was leaving, I asked for his name and he refused to give it tome (Theo) to which he refused to give. He told me if I wasn't buying a car to leave, which I was already doing. Then proceeded to come out to MY car after HE told me to leave to try and talk more. Just do yourself a favor and avoid this location. Edited to add: went to a different Subaru location. Got offered $1,500 above MSRP with a package that was NOT included in the car Napleton offered me for $3,000 above. This location also offered me $3,500 more then Napleton Palatine for my trade-in. Purchased a vehicle couple of days ago, sales woman promised to hace vehicle in excellent running condition. upon Giving me the keys I noticed that little to any changed we're done to the car. only a small buff If that. on January 10 2021. 2 businesses days after I bought the car, I tried taking it back, since I signed to have warranty insurance up to 14 days for anything wrong with the car. they took it in to "look over" and they simple asked someone sitting at a desk to go test drive the car and see if anything is wrong with it. Not even 3 minutes later they come back and says, "nope it's good". now Im no mechanic but i sure as hell know it does not take 3 minutes to inspect a whole vehicle. the dealer refused to take back the car or fix the shocks and wheel problem the car obviously have. The manager handed the keys over and said leave, or I will toe your car out of the lot. now that I've read over other reviews seems that I am not the only one that's had this problem. it's a shame that people live and work for or own establishments like these. pitty, will be hearing from my lawyer. read more

I inquired about a pre-owned Subaru 'certified' car that was posted on the Napleton Subaru website and asked for information on the total selling price. The internet responder (Serena) was somewhat understandably not willing to share 'bottom line' pricing over the internet but said "we are usually the lowest priced for the exact model in a 200 mile radius. With that said we are open to negotiation!" With this input I schedule a visit at the Schaumburg Subaru location where the representative was located and the car was supposedly located. When I arrived the specific car inquired about was not on premise and the different sales rep showed me a similar car (different color) and proceeded to advance the conversation on this different vehicle. Evidently the car I inquired about and set up the appointment for was located at the Napleton Palatine dealership site. I indicated that I really came to see and drive the vehicle I found on the internet at which time he mentioned that all 'certified' vehicles get an additional $1,500 fee added to the internet price. This seemed odd and should have been disclosed up front when I asked for pricing information during my initial exchanges regarding the vehicle. So here I am in what has turned into a 'bait and misinformation' situation. At this point I shared that I preferred not to do business with a company that uses such misleading and deceitful tactics. I left the dealership. Later that day I received a call from the manager of internet representatives located at the Palatine Subaru dealership (Alysha). I explained the situation and she asked if she could get back to me as she would like to escalate this matter up to management in an effort to make things right. Due to the interest I had in this car I shared that I would look forward to her return call. A couple hours later she called and shared that her sales manager agreed that the 'certified' fee would not be applied if I would like to purchase the car for the price posted on the internet. I asked her to prepare an invoice detailing the total price for review before I made another visit. She agreed and said she'd work out the detail and forward the invoice. Shortly there after I received a call from the Palatine Subaru Sales Manager (Theo) stating that he would not sell the car without the 'certified' add on fee. I asked why he would have agreed to this earlier with the internet rep and did not respond. I asked if he could have the internet rep join us on the phone call and he implied she was not available. I asked that he locate Alysha so we could have a 3-way conversation to better understand why he would not honor his earlier commitment. Theo never called back. Later that day I received an email (title "We Value Your Business") from the General Manager of the Palatine Subaru dealership (Steve Napleton). In his note Steve stated " I just wanted to thank you for your recent visit. We want to make sure that all of our clients are treated with courtesy and respect, as well as provided the information and opportunity for you to have a hassle-free purchasing experience. If there is anything that I can do to help you, please contact me personally". In nice way . . . shared with Steve that my visit was anything but a hassle-free experience and that if he was interested in learning more about my 'customer unfriendly' visit that I was . . . "willing to invest a bit more time helping you become aware of the challenges your customers face". Mr. Napleton did not reach back out to me to further this discussion. I wasted several hours traveling, visiting and corresponding with the team members at the Napleton Subaru dealerships in Schaumburg and Palatine. Clearly the experience I had with their 'bait and misinform' sales technique speaks volumes about the deceitful business practices. I write this review so others are not baited into the stereotypical 'used car sales techniques' used by the Subaru dealerships in Schaumburg and Palatine. Had a bad experience at Napleton Palatine this week my wife and i have been researching Subaru Ascents for a while and Napleton listed a preowned ascent on their site. We called to see it in person but when we drove over the car was dead and they told us it needed a new battery. we test drove a new one and liked the car so we scheduled to come back to finalize the deal 4 days later. my pregnant wife and I took off work to meet Sheldon again to purchase the vehicle... we arrived at our scheduled time, they made us wait for an hour, then walked us back to the car and told us it was still dead so we couldn't drive it and that it had additional repairs we weren't initially told about. As we left, the manager tried to offer us a different car, for a higher price as some sort of weird conciliation and then rather than apologize for wasting our time he told me they didn't appreciate me "rubbing their nose in it" when i pointed out that this isn't how most dealers do business and all they had to do was call us to reschedule the purchase. In any case, it worked out for the best for me - I found the same Ascent at Grand Subaru in Bensenville for cheaper. the sales people there were respectful and honest. The WORST dealership ever!!! Unprofessional and Disrespectful Service!!! I purchased a VW Atlas in 01/2021, and on the test drive I noticed there was a problem with the brakes. I notified the sales man about the issues during the test drive, and he told me they would have service check it out. Service told me the car was parked for months so after 2-3 weeks everything would be okay, the brakes "just need to warm up". (Service note: brakes 85% got life. Photo added). After 3 months the problem is not gone. Noted the dealer. Brought the car in for an oil change, fix a tire and check the brakes. Dropped the car off at 9am and at 11:30am I was notified the rotors and brake pads need to be replaced at my expense. I explained the vehicle had this problem from the beginning and they said they will see what they can do. I followed up with service at 4pm asking for an update and they told me they are closing at 4pm and nothing was done. It took them 7 hours to complete an oil change and fix a tire. I came to take the car, and asked Mark, the sales manager "Is it safe to drive with the brakes like this?" and he said "yes". You can see in the photos, the brake pads were in critical condition. Next day I went to a different Auto Service and they told me the brakes are at 0%. I had to pay for the brakes out of my pocket for new rotors and pads, now the car drives completely different. I should not have had to pay for this service out of pocket when I first purchased the vehicle. The car had this problem from the beginning and the dealership should have fixed it free of charge. read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced! No communication between staff members. No concern for the value of customer time. No apologies for their own errors. Just ridiculous that this place can stay in business. I set up an appointment to test drive a car online. It was easy enough and the communication with the associate was good. When I showed up, the associate never came to meet me, and the sales manager told me that the car I wanted to test wasn't even on their lot yet. I asked him if a similar car was there instead and he said "That's what I'm trying to tell you. Those cars aren't here yet." He said he expected them "sometime in the afternoon". Then, I thought he redeemed them when he said it might be possible for them to bring the car to me for me to test drive from my home the next day. I thanked him for that consideration and left. I then got an email from the original associate with subject line "Still coming by?". So, not only did she not get notified that the car I was interested in wasn't physically there, she also didn't get notified that I actually had already come in. She didn't even include a greeting; just asked what time she could expect me. I tried calling her and of course could not reach her; she was at lunch. I said I wanted to leave her a voicemail and it took them 2 tries to get me to her voicemail box. At one point I got transferred to a guy and when I said what I was trying to do, he said, "Oh, let me transfer you to Subaru." Where the heck had they transferred me before that!?!?! Then I got a voicemail from the Sales Manager. He said the cars showed up on the lot about an hour after I left. He asked me to contact him to schedule a test drive (did not specify location of test drive). He also sent me an email asking if there was anything he could do. I replied to him with a technical question about the car, which he did answer quickly, to his credit. I also got a text message from the original associate. She apologized for the error but said "they were here in my system. I didn't know... I'll let you know when it is back right away." I responded that the manager had said they were already back. She said she would double check on that and also check if it was, in fact, possible to have it brought to my home for a test drive. I never heard back from her after that. The next day I also made time in my schedule to do a test drive, although I did not know if it would be in Palatine or where I live. I called in and asked for the original associate since she was the one with whom I had most recently been in contact. She said that the Sales Manager wanted to talk to me, but that he wasn't going to be available until noon. I then sent another reply to his original email to have him confirm if it would in fact be possible for me to do a test drive from my home. He never responded to me. This was now almost 48 hours after I had made initial contact about test driving the car, and thanks to their incompetence, I had made no progress. Now today, (day 3 of the saga) the Sales Manager called me on the phone around 12pm. He did not apologize for not returning my call, responding to my email, or contacting me at all the previous day. He said "Let me check if I can get that car out to you to test drive today. It would probably be between 12 and 2pm" I thought, "Well, it's already almost 12pm, but ok," and I said "Okay, great. Thanks!" It's now 3:15pm and I haven't heard from him. I called the sales dept. back myself around 2:30 (because I have other sh*t to do today) and got the Used Car Manager (not sure if he was the Sales Manager's boss or vice-versa) who apologized that I had been given the wrong notion but said "We just don't have enough staff to do something like that. There's nothing I can do." He didn't apologize for any of the inconveniences that I had been put through though. This place is doing the bare minimum necessary to survive while they ride the magic Subaru brand coattails. Avoid if you can! read more

I took my Crosstrek in for a regular oil & filter change, and tire rotation. I brought my own oil and filter in an attempt to save a little money. The last time I did that they charged $15, but this time they raised it to $20. Then on top of it all, I had a $5 off coupon they sent me since I bought the car there. They would not honor it since I brought my oil & filter. This is the last time I am going back unless there is a warranty issue. The mechanics are incredible, Frank has been working on my Subarus for years. The service staff are the problem. I felt like all they cared about was making more money for the company. I got a flat, during the COVID situation. Put in the spare, but was working all day every day and in the evening, none of the tire repair places were open since everyone is on limited hours. I called Napleton Subaru in Palatine, where I had bought by Crosstrek, and they sent people out to pick up my car, take it in and inspect it, replace the tire, so some other maintenance, and drop it off. All in about 4 hours, and the crew picking it up and dropping it off we're wearing masks and gloves, and were super courteous and professional. Awesome experience. Bait and switch! - I had a very frustrating experience at Napelton's Subaru in Palatine last week. I was shopping for a new Subaru Crosstrek for my daughter. One of their sales people (Joe McAvoy) quoted me a price on a car that we being delivered soon. On the day before the car arrived, Joe tells me that "management" will not let him sell that car for the price he quoted me. Deceitful practices. Was told that the price they had been showing online, which was the MSRP, was not the price for which they would be selling me the car I test drove. They wanted me to pay 3K more than the car was advertised as. This was their "we have no inventory" ploy. I was told I could order a car AND THEN maybe pay the MSRP, but otherwise if the car was on the lot I had to pay extra cuz they needed the money. No matter what they say, leave! Do Not pay extra. I went to another dealership and got money taken off the MSRP, and got some other things thrown in. There are still business out there that don't need to wring out their customers in order to keep the lights on. Napleton is not one of them. Walk out, find another dealership.
