Everybody is very friendly and it's a great neighborhood spot. The smoked wings are everything here. I'll keep coming back for them and the tacos. Overall the food is so much better since they revamped their approach to the menu. I'm never disappointed by the food, but the management of service could step it up a notch by finding the bottleneck and addressing it. The service gets a little hectic sometimes and I think it may be a breakdown in the communication system between the front of house and the kitchen. This was a great place. We came here on the recommendation of some friends to play trivia. Unfortunately we didn't know everything there was to know about Carrie Fisher, so we didn't win, but everything else was awesome. They had a large selection of drinks. The atmosphere was lively and fun, but could easily have been a nice date night location. We ordered some apps to start, fireball bbq sliders and pimento cheese balls. Both were great. My burger (turkey burger) was delicious. It had a balsamic on it that made it really stand out. I was surprised/disappointed that they didn't have a veggie burger, but since I'm not a vegetarian, the turkey burger was a nice change/alternative, though I still think they should have that option. Husband ordered the tacos, which were all very spicy, but fine. Next time, I don't think he will order the tacos again, they weren't bad, just nothing to write home about. We hit up Napoleons a few nights ago. It's not to far from home so we figured we'd give it a whirl because looked like they have a decent patio. The service was great the food not to much. We had a wedge, grouper sandwich, and a philly. The wedge was ok, it only had a couple bacon bits on it which made me sad. The grouper on the sandwich was super thin and the Philly was still cold in the middle. The table next to us also complained that their food came out cold and uncooked. Came here on a Friday night with the boyfriend for a date, the wait for an outside table wasn't too bad, so we went to the bar to order a drink. The inside decor is cool and and very "gastro pub-esque,"- the bar was pretty small as well, but we were able to get our orders and drinks out quickly. We were seated shortly and was greeted by our server, he was not rude or short, but he did seem like he was in the weeds (I could tell because they had just double sat him with us and a large group of 9). I ordered the wedge salad (that was delicious) but my grouper sandwich fell short. So disappointed because the price did not prove to be worth the quality. My grouper was so flat that it barely had any flavor at all. The boyfriend ordered the philly cheese steak and it didn't really have a lot meat to it at all. I wrote a raving review about 3 years ago and this place was AWESOME! However, alas, I guess all good things come to an end. We went a year ago and my husband ordered an old fashioned and it came out hot pink.... not sure why or how but it was hot pink and did not taste like an old fashion. Second attempt since then we ordered calamari (which by the way was amazing back then) and ended up getting frozen rings of calamari.... Third attempt: ordered the hummus and got some weird pita bread (not going to fault it as it seemed to be gluten free) but normally we would get a little block of feta and some yummy veggies.... the hummus was bland (usually the hummus was red pepper hummus) and the weird pita was just, well, weird..... This place had always seemed overpriced but we were always willing to make an exception because things here were pretty good. (Which, by the way, their wings are still wonderful). I ordered wings and calamari delivery from Napoleon's, the jerk wings were very good. And buffalo wasn't bad either. I wish the wings had a little more flavoring on them but what really made these wings were the quality of the wings. I can't stress enough how perfect the wing itself was in terms of size and how they were cooked. It was too perfection. They gave me a ton of ranch with my delivery order and the ranch was delicious with the buffalo or the jerk ones. The calamari was sub par but delivery calamari is probably a bad idea to begin with. Fiasco. Went with friends to the Joe Gandeson Valentines Dinner at the Vista Club last night. Sat at 730 pm. At 945 pm I was not only hungry, I was getting light headed from lack of blood sugar (I take a form of insulin called Levemir). Tried to exit through front door of adjacent room in Napoleons owned by same people. Door locked. Really? Fire code hazard with 200 people and one exit? Bought snack at store next door and returned. Shared snacks with others at my table and table next to ours. Shared crab cakes delivered at 10 pm. Main courses delivered shortly afterwards. They mixed up my order and I expresssed my displeasure. I felt bad for the hard working staff but hypoglycemia makes one cranky Band was great but I would recommend joe let up on the coital and alcohol jokes in a crowd whose average age was 50. Food when served was quite good. But. You don't invite couples in for this night and serve them at bedtime. The owner was floating about snapping instagram pics beaming with pride while guests and servers grew increasingly frantic. What was he thinking? Near closing at 1030 pm, Joe strolls back on stage, Sinatra style, highball in hand, and exclaims, "They're still bringing out food! Isn't this great? How are y'all feeling?" Dizzy. That's how. The owner of this restaurant and club has badly tarnished his reputation. With one exit in a crowded room, had there been a fire, people could have died. Joe would not have burned though: he was sufficiently wet. Hats off to the barkeeps and others who rushed into the breach to help. But shame is the hangover the owner will be wearing this morning. I work out next door to Napoleon's and have always been struck by the fact that people go there in droves. When my brother came to town we decided to give it a try. We were lucky in that the night we went it was busy but not mobbed. The place is comfortable and attractive. There was a band that was really good but I neglected to find out who they were but they added to the experience. The place has a friendly neighborhood feel and we were made to feel at home though we had never set foot in the place. The wings were crispy perfection. The burgers are among the best, if not the best, in Atlanta. I had the Mushroom and Swiss Burger with a side of Brussel Sprouts and my brother had a salad and then The Napoleon Burger. I don't remember his side. Overall, the food could not have been better quality, better prepared nor presented any better than it was. They got it all right. It was a bit pricey. The bill, all told, with two iced teas, the wings, a house salad, and two burgers with a la carte sides came to $52 before tip but we were full and happy. Our server, Lisa, was great. When I go back, I will ask for her. When you see people supporting a restaurant like what I had been seeing from a far, there has to be a reason. I am delighted my brother and I found out why Napoleon's has such a devoted following. read more

Have gone multiple times over the 6+ years of living in the neighborhood and I keep telling myself I'll give it one more chance, but every time I go I always leave disappointed. The service is usually terrible, whether it is just a lack of promptness or forgetting to even bring the appetizers before the entree. Then there is the food, to me it's overpriced and lackluster. It's just trying to be something it's not. I mean the place looks like a pub so just do pub food and do it right. The menu is kind of all over the place and none of it really is better than mediocre. I've never once thought, "this food is delicious." I wouldn't recommend this place. I wish they bring in a front of house manager to handle the service situation and revamp the menu to more closely align to what they appears to be, a neighborhood pub. read more

My friend and I came here on a weeknight dinner because she likes this place. I had never been here and I am always open to trying something new. She mentioned the last time they were here it was loud so warned me of that. However there was a closed off section for the live music on the other side and where we were seated, it wasn't loud. The atmosphere inside is neighborhood restaurant with a hint of dive bar. Our server was a nice guy that offered to let us try couple of their beers on tap before ordering. He suggested a stout for me which I wasn't happy with so he offered another one to try first. The 2nd beer (can't remember the style or name) was very good so I opted to get that. My friend knew what she wanted for beer and dinner so she ordered each. For dinner I couldn't decide between a Thai Salad and the Dragon Bowl (asian chicken with asian sauces and sauteed vegetables and rice). He recommended the Dragon bowl over the salad so that was my choice. I asked to sub my bowl with brown rice instead of white rice and the server said that wouldn't be a problem. My friend got the pot roast with potatoes. Our dinners arrived soon after we placed our orders. The pot roast my friend got looked really good, and the perfect winter comfort meal. My meal looked fine at first glance but it wasn't very appetizing once I took the bite. The chicken was pulled off the bone a tad dry, it didn't have any impressive Asian flavors as I was expecting it to have. The vegetables were sauteed in oil but also didn't have much in the way of flavor. The rest of the bowl was fine. The unappetizing part of the meal was the pool of juice that was at the bottom of the bowl under the food. The juice was obviously from the pulled chicken; it seemed the chicken was cooked in the oven or slow cooker, then pulled off the bone and then the juices that had rendered were just added back to the pan. Watery/runny meat juice isn't very good on its own so I wasn't pleased. Especially if it's sitting below the rice and the veggies too. Maybe this isn't the place to get a bowl or a salad and more for a comfort meal but I wasn't wowed. I may try it again in the future but I won't be rushing back anytime soon. There is ample parking for the restaurant because it sits in the same large shopping center as other shops. They also have a patio for outdoor seating in Spring, Summer and Fall. When we were there, it was cold and dreary and absolutely no reason to sit outside. Our server checked on us few times, but he was overly happy to talk to us or ask us about our food and beverage which can be uncomfortable or creepy but I didn't care. After driving past this place a zillion time I finally had a chance to try Napoleon's. The parking lot always appears to be full but I found out they have an adjoining music venue so I'm sure that's part of what I've been seeing This was an off night, Sunday before school started back so no one was out and about and the place was fairly empty. The decor is nice and warm with lots of dark wood tones everywhere. Tables and booths, bar and outdoor patio seating all available. The service was also warm and friendly. I had the pot roast which was so amazing that I can't even begin to describe to you. It's served with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. My friend enjoyed his chicken club quesadilla also. The down side is I'm a salad girl and I'll actually rank you on your salad. I ordered a side salad which came on a way too small plate. When you tried to eat it the greens fell off the plate. I requested blue cheese and I'm not sure what I got but it tasted ruined. I should have stopped there but the guy was so fast to take it away I don't remember there being an option. We sat on the patio in the late afternoon and despite being in a parking lot, the fence made it feel better than it was. This place is apparently affiliated with a cool little music venue that is next door. Will definitely be back to check that out. I WANT to love this place. Local eatery, cool atmosphere, owner lives in the neighborhood, all that good stuff. But the food just doesn't make it beyond "ok", and the prices are high enough (mains start at $10 and go up) that the food really needs to make that happen. The first time I ever came here, I had the salmon and it was magnificent. I since re-ordered it like four times - blah and bland every time. Once dangerously and obviously undercooked (they were very polite and apologized). I started wondering if maybe I was just pregnant/ desperate the first time. After I gave up trying to recreate the salmon miracle, I tried other things; it's all vaguely solid food but never anything special and often quite disappointing. I had the driest salad of my life the day I tried the Thai Chicken Salad - every bite was like ripping a leaf of lettuce off the head and stuffing it clean into my mouth. Chew, chew, chew. Then there was the time I realized their hummus isn't nearly as good as Publix's in-store brand. The Napoleon's bowl is safe, but you're kinda left wondering why you didn't just save your pennies at eat at home. My dinnermates generally report the same of their meals as well. read more

A little crowded on a Friday night. The was my first time here on a Friday night. There was a wait for a table, even though there were many open tables inside. I'm guessing the wait was because they lacked waitstaff. However, I went to the bar without any wait. As far as food, I ordered the pineapple jerk smoked wings. They were good, but they had less flavor than I expected. However, they were huge and you get a good amount of wings with the order. After that, I opted for a veggie plate with kale and quinoa, brussel sprouts, and sweet potato fries. The only thing that was not good was the kale and quinoa, there was hardly any kale and the quinoa had what could only be guess was an inordinate amount of lemon juice and garlic. I just wanna leave a quick review for both the owner, Sean Keenan, & the chef, Rob Shutsky. I found them through a mutual friend and was trying to put together an outdoor Memorial/Celebration of Life for the recent loss of my mother. I had decided on her favorite food, barbecue, and hadn't had much luck or time in finding a place at that point to cater for me. My friend reached out to the owner and they put together some great ideas for us and I couldn't be more grateful. I didn't have the mental energy to do much more but with their help, the event turned out better than expected and everyone was so pleased with the food. That was some of the best barbecue I've ever had. Besides the awesome ribs & chicken with the homemade sauces, I need to give a special shout out to those collards, Mac n cheese, and baked beans! I have never had a good experience at Napoleon's. The service is beyond sub par and always has been. Their wait staff lacks basic customer service skills and struggles to even check in on customers (on slow nights as well). I have always given them the benefit of the doubt, but my most recent trip was the last time I will ever step over there for food. My friend and I walked away with a terrible customer service experience, and then a couple of hours later ended up violently ill. I would not recommend going to Napoleon's. It's a shame because it has a decent beer menu and a great patio. read more

The live music and lobster last night was great. They have the best patio in Atlanta. Also, the service and margaritas were wonderful.

The new menu is good. The burger, a double patty, was tasty. The sweet potato chips were a good pairing (especially since I wasn't expecting the double patty). The blueberry flavored drink was good, balanced. The creme brûlée was also nice and heavy on the vanilla flavor. Was there 5pm till around 6pm. Had the blackened grouper sandwich. Sent it back because it didn't feel cooked enough. Came back better. Was full from the Brussel sprouts so I only ate half of the sandwich. Good thing I did. When I got home around 7pm, stomach started feeling bad...diarrhea Our server was super nice and I wanted to let them know how I was feeling so no one else would get sick. The manager told me they had been serving it all day and no complaints. Immediately was on the defense. Said it wasn't food poisoning from the fish. Said fish was fresh and I COULDN'T have symptoms from food poisoning that fast. Wow! Really?! First of all, you're wrong! Second, you should never be combative with no cause. I didn't ask for a refund. Was just a courtesy call. Say thank you and apologize. Let the customer know that you will check and make sure everything is up to par. Suggest a free beer (I don't need one, but it's good customer service and the least you can do). He was adamant that it wasn't food poisoning. It was just rude! Anyway...I was looking forward to checking them out again because they're close to a new spot that my son likes...but now...WILL NOT! 2 stars because the server was super sweet! This is a gastro-pub worth the visit!!! Right next door is the Vista Room, which features live music from local bands, so you can make it a full date night with dinner & a show. The menu is really neat & varied; apps, salads with super fresh ingredients, comfortable favorites like pot roast on mashed potatoes with sautéed spinach, several types of tacos, sandwiches include BLT with green tomatoes & goat cheese... very interesting selections if you want something a little different yet somewhat familiar. We had an absolutely abysmal experience at Napoleon's this evening that ruined not only our dinner experience but also the concert we pre-purchased tickets for at the restaurant's attached Vista Room venue. In short, something went wrong that resulted in the kitchen being terribly backed up and several tables including ours had not received their food nearly an hour after their orders were placed. Servers had not been told what to tell customers and some had resorted to outright avoiding checking on their tables (understandably) out of embarassment and for fear of customers voicing their frustrations at them. We and others at nearby tables asked repeatedly to speak with a manager and we were told "he isn't coming out here." Eventually many people stood up and left (after apparently being charged for the drinks they ordered when they first sat down). As we were preparing to go as well our food appeared and in hopes of salvaging our evening we sat back down to consume it. The food was terrible. Ingredients were missing in some dishes, items that should have been hot were lukewarm, and some items were badly undercooked. Our waitress told us she wouldn't charge us for the food. We insited on paying for it anyway as we did eat some of it out of desperation and we tipped our waitress well because none of this was her fault and her manager let her down terribly. For us, the mark of a well-run establishment is not that things don't go wrong, but how management behaves when things do go wrong. In this case, we feel management failed their customers and staff by not letting arriving patrons know about the severity of the delay, not providing servers with the means to inform and comfort those who already had ordered and were waiting, and not setting foot in the front of the house to try and reassure or assist customers. We have happily returned to restaurants that have had trainwreck dinner service because the management made every effort make us feel welcome and wanted even when they knew they couldn't put their best foot forward at that moment. We missed about half of the concert at The Vista Room we had paid to attend. The dinner experience had put such a pall on our evening that we decided not to stay longer than a few songs. Before this experience we had noted several other upcoming concerts and had talked about inviting friends and buying tables for those shows. At this point we will go to 37 Main and other food + music venues that have shown us they know how to make it right even when everything goes wrong. read more

Napoleon's just opened on 8/18/10 but they have managed what few new restaurants to do already. On only their second night open they managed to impress a table of 6 with both their service and their food. The space itself is dark without being dingy, full of comfortable booths (for both 4 and 6) and tables, and with a buzz in the air of a neighborhood who is excited to have them there. The music played isn't too loud to make conversation impossible and they seem to have someone with good taste manning the ipod, we recognized Santogold at one point. One of the owners, Nancy was there to great us at our table and you could tell how excited she was. She was a bit nervous but warm. They had just gotten their liquor license the day before so she was apologetic that their full beer and wine order hadn't arrived yet. As far as what beers were on tap so far, 3 of the expected 16 (all craft beers.) Sweetwater 420, Sweetwater Motorboat ESB and Terrapin Hop Karma so far. The best part of their expected line up, the most expensive draft beer runs about $5. And they have about 20 or so different wines with most running again around $5 per glass for a very generous pour. One of our party also ordered a vodka and cranberry and they were very generous with the vodka as well. Their sweet tea was pretty close to perfection as well. Now for the food. Appetizers ordered: Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Topped with goat cheese, fresh herbs and grilled flat bread 7.99 Tortilla Nachos, Chili sauce, black beans, salsa verde, queso, shredded lettuce, sour cream, Cilantro, jalapenos and fresh salsa 6.99 Vindaloo Chicken Fingers, Spicy red curry sauce with kaffir leaves, cilantro and Thai basil. 7.99 Not a miss in the bunch. The nachos were topped with all incredibly fresh house made ingredients. We held the black beans but still thought they were fantastic. The do offer add-ons of Braised Beef, Fried Tofu, Grilled Chicken, Pulled Pork, Guacamole for 2.99 each as well. The spinach artichoke dip was also homemade and fresh. Large chunks of artichoke, perfectly tender. Only complaint was we could have used a bit more flat bread but they brought us out extra nacho chips when we ran out. The Vindaloo Chicken Tenders impressed even someone who doesn't like Indian food. Perfectly fried, moist and well seasoned. The vindaloo tasted better than some I have had in authentic Indian restaurants. For mains we sampled a large portion of their menu as well across the table. Two of us had a Southern Man hot dog which is topped with their homemade Brunswick Stew. The hot dog had a nice snap to the casing and the stew was well seasoned. The Full On hot dog was topped with chili sauce, salsa verde, cilantro, and salsa. She thought it was flavorful but a bit one note due to all of the toppings being the same texturally. On the taco side of the menu we sampled: BBQ Chuck Short Ribs, With house steak sauce and fried onions Fried Chicken Club, Chipotle mayo, applewood bacon, tomatoes and dressed field greens Fried Fish, Fried tilapia, poblano tartar sauce and fresh tossed coleslaw Vindaloo Tofu, Fried tofu, spicy red curry sauce with Asian slaw cilantro and Thai basil BBQ Pork, With applewood BBQ sauce, crunchy cole slaw and pickled jalapenos I think the only miss of those was the Short Rib one due to them forgetting the fried onions, it lacked the crunch the taco needed. The Fried Chicken Club was just amazing. Comments from the table on the others were all equally impressed. The House Salad and Side Salad were also ordered by members of the table and both raved about them. The freshness of the ingredients, the dressings and size of the salads. Both hits. The Fish & Chips were great except for the tartar sauce. It was a bit too sweet but the fish was fried perfectly. Light batter with no trace of greasiness. We would return without hesitation. If they were this impressive for a new restaurant we can't wait to see what they do when they are firing on all cylinders. read more

This is a tough review as I want to like Napoleon's (their chef used to own Burrito Art, which I loved), and I want to give them a 3, but looking at it objectively, I've got to go with a 2 because I have no interest in going back to eat (I would go back for beers and the live music). I'll start with the good - after an apparent initial mix-up where we were seated for 10 minutes with no menus and no employees even acknowledged us, service ended up being good. And I like the beer list - it's not huge, but has some great variety/options. And the atmosphere is solid (Note: this is a very family friendly place - there were quite a few kids there after 9 pm. That's a minus for me, but obviously not for all). And we really enjoyed the live music. The bad...well, I was very disappointed in the food. This is based on one visit, but everything was under-seasoned. We started with the hummus plate. To me Hummus is kind of like pizza - even when it's bad, it's still kind of good. And that's how this was - it had an odd texture (needed more olive oil) and was garlicky, but that was about it. Next I had the Brunswick stew, which was the best thing I had - it was good, but I still found myself adding salt (which I rarely do at restaurants). I then tried two dishes that came very highly recommended from our server - the Thai chicken bowl, and the pot roast. Neither was bad, but both were much more bland than they should have been. The selection of food here ranges from Indian-inspired to hot dogs to traditional pub fare, but I kind of liked the weird mash up. Makes it easy when one person wants tacos, one wants a hot dog, and one really wants pasta. Have no fear, for Napoleon's can take care of all those needs! You would think that with such an off the wall menu the chef would have a difficult time keeping the curry away from the ketchup, but with a burger, peanut dip and fries, tex-mex rice bowl, hot dog, and korean bbq taco on the table, everything wound up standing on it's own two feet. I loved the peanut dip with the fries, and the fries alone are amazing. Super crisp, just enough salt, and not at all greasy. Very good! The rice bowl was my choosing, and it was the perfect blend of rice, sour cream, black beans, salsa, spice, and tortilla chips with a healthy addition of freshly prepared guacamole. I was most pleased with the selection I'd made, though I wish I'd saved room to try the taco and hotdog my boyfriend scarfed down in under 10 minutes. Guy's like a trash compactor, I swear! In the end, I wanted to try the peach sorbet. Very light and refreshing, and it's bowl was a frozen, hollowed-out peach! Great way to end the meal. The beer selection here is extensive too with a lot to choose from on tap. If it's not on tap, it's probably in a bottle, and I noticed plenty of wines as well for the more refined palates out there. We were there on trivia night and while we didn't play along (my grandfather is too hard of hearing yet he seemed to know all the answers!), the guy did a good job calling out the questions. However, highly suggested that you play on the patio where the noise level is lower and you can hear the question a little better. Patio seemed nice for both groups and a romantic night out. Really digging Oak Grove area of as late, and I'm glad places like this are springing up! read more

"Hey man, what's your name?" Accompanied by a firm handshake, that's how the bartenders greet faces they don't recognize at Napoleon's. Then - get this - they remember your name and USE IT! So you take that kind of familiar service and combine it with a killer beer list, a fun and reliable menu (smoked wings are the best on this side of town!), and decent live music all weekend long. What's not to love? Napoleon's is a wonderful contribution to the Oak Grove neighborhood. They give back to the community and deserve thier spot as a favored watering hole and family restaurant. read more

Broad beer selection, for sure. Vindaloo chicken tender app was very different, and really really good. Korean short rib taco was outstanding. Grilled tilapia taco had good flavor but needed more fish. Buffalo chicken taco was so-so. Burger was bland and boring. Fries were surprisingly great - they were thin/shoestring but not limp or weak like such fries usually are (in my opinion). They were crispy and fresh tasting - I recommend them. Will be back, but want to try more dishes. Don't order a burger. Good bar area. Inside is very pretty and kind of rural-america-gone-british-pub or something. Patio looked nice but was still too warm out for my tastes. read more
