We visited Pokok for the first time this Sunday. First of all, the atmosphere is quite nice, specially the ornate booths with lots of pillows and curtains. It was also very clean. The waitress and hostess were both extremely friendly and went out of their way to ensure the food was to our liking and we were enjoying it. We got the Chicken Pad Thai with extra peanut sauce on the side and the Malay Curry Chicken and the vegetable spring rolls to start. All were fantastic. To drink, we got the Thai Iced Red Tea which was also really good and came in a HUGE mug. We are DEFINITELY going back. I highly recommend. read more

Great room! Great food! I had Chicken Satay to start, and the Singapore Laksa, which was like the Asian version of "Zuppa de Pesce", well-spiced, not overly. I brought enough home to have for lunch tomorrow too. The reviews saying that they had inconsistent experiences, I'd say give them another chance, they have only been only open 4 months. Really solid Thai place! I tried this by myself to figure out if I'd take the family back, and the answer is definitely a "yes". The food quality is quite high and the decor is very good. It doesnt look it it from the outside, but this is not some cheap takeout place. This is a high end Thai restaurant for sure. I tried the Tom ka Gai soup, which was excellent. Their Roti Prata was really good - hot and fresh from the oven, with an excellent sauce. They use chicken wings in the sauce, which was extremely tender and added to the meal. For the main, I had a Malay Curry Chicken which was also excellent. Sauce was just the right heat, chicken (again, wings) were super tender. The potatoes were the perfect consistency. The decor is really nice, with a bunch of private booths as well as tables. Quite a surprise for a strip mall in Freehold. I need to try a few more dishes, but my first impression is that this is up there with Siam Garden in Red Bank. Note that the menu has a relatively small number of items on it, compared to a run-of-the-mill Thai place. read more

This is hands down the best thai food I have ever had. Every dish was perfect. There is an attention to detail in every aspect. The curry is flavorful, rich and thick. The pad thai is done right, with just the right amount of moisture and flavor. I had the beef on a super hot sizzling plate, flavor was on the mark, juicy beef and not overly salty. Pokok is great! I was looking for somewhere to eat near closing time and although they had the kitchen closed, they still took my in and accommodated me. They treated me like family while I sat and waiting for my food by bringing me water and snacks. Then they packed a big, beautiful bag of food and even gave me a dessert to try something new! Ordered several entrees yesterday for take out and expected to compromise a little on flavor and freshness but everything was perfectly cooked and fresh. Had the Hainanese Chicken for takeout lunch. It cost around 17.50 after tax. The chicken itself was good but the sauces weren't real Singaporean chili sauce. My wife live there for 10 years and I have been there 4 times. A meal that would have cost about 6 dollars in a good food court had more chicken then what was served to me. So I'm from New York City and I'm a self proclaimed foodie. This restaurant took my expectations and 100% exceeded them without even trying. I'm a millennial. We take pictures of everything. This place is crazy photogenic, especially the food. The presentation is A+. The food itself is absolutely out of this world. I took my two best friends here because I wanted them to try something new and they were in love. For appetizers, we got the wontons and the shrimp balls and those were gone as soon as they hit the table. Overall I was pleasantly surprised after dining here last night. The decor and ambience overall is a welcome addition to the area. My party of 3 did not try any drinks, appetizers or desserts. We ordered the Red Curry w/ Shrimp, Drunken noodle with chicken and the Thai Basil Chicken. Portions were generous as we had enough to take home. The shrimp dish was the favorite as the chicken was not the best we have had. The spice level is decent. If you can't handle spicy foods, make sure to let the waiter/waitress know so they can adjust. We had lunch here yesterday. First of all it is gorgeous inside. Not what you would expect in a strip mall in freehold. It is actually date worthy. The service was perfect. We had the Vietnamese style shrimp spring rolls as an appetizer with large fresh shrimp, green onions and noodles inside and 2 delicious dipping sauces. We also had the red curry with chicken and the Laksa noodle dish with seafood. The curry was spicy and delicious. The Lochsa was super fresh and enough for two meals. If I could give 3 1/2 stars I would. Had dinner here tonight. The lighting in the restaurant was very dim. The sampler platter of appetizers had a delicious sauce and a good amount of items. Our main entrees were served before we were even halfway done with our appetizers. The red vegetable curry was very good. It had a nice variety of well cooked veggies. The sweet & sour chicken had a strong sour taste. The rice portion served with these two dishes could have been more generous. The vegetable pad Thai was dry. It was not wrapped in egg as it is traditionally made. The egg bits were very dry & brownish. There was a small amount of vegetables (string beans, broccoli, carrot slices & bamboo shoots). The surprise ingredient was tofu which was not listed in the description & which I do not like. While the servers were polite they seemed to be in a rush for us to leave the restaurant. Even though there was no one waiting to get in & the other occupied table had been served. It was a satisfactory experience. Open to giving them another try. read more

Recently stumbled upon this place and didn't think anything of it. Usually don't write any sort of reviews but this place deserves it. It was crowded but got sat right away. The menu was plentiful and the pictures of the food were even more enticing. Ordered a few appetizers which were great. Shared the golden curry shrimp, drunken noodles, and malay curry chicken. I would like to first say that this restaurant is a bit pricey. BUT it was delicious. My family celebrated Mother's Day here. There were several families there as well, but I don't think it's well known yet. We basically ordered everything on the menu. Our favorites being the Pad Thai (mom doesn't usually like this, but she loved it), fried Fish (presentation was beautiful, we didn't want to eat it...but of course we did), thai ice tea served with tapioca, balls, and chicken wings. Such a nice surprise. Heading back to Bangkok tomorrow and wanted to take the NJ family members somewhere to enjoy the familiar food we've long enjoyed in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam. One star for nice ambiance which I noticed immediately upon arrival during my first & LAST visit here. I ordered their Pad z ew noodle dish with Beef which is a favorite of mine from other Thai restaurants. The Beef had a horrible smell and texture to it & it took me over 30seconds to chew a piece. I tried two more pieces to see if it was just one bad piece but all of the meat was bad. It made me nauseous. I couldnt eat my dish at all. I confronted the waitress nicely about it & she took my dish away & didn't offer if I wanted something else or to even say sorry and possibly comp the dish since I didn't eat it. After awkward silence we asked for the check and that was that. I won't be going back there ever again. Not accommodating at all & still charged for the uneaten disgusting dish. read more

The service was also kind of rude and kept pressuring us to buy more food, ending up in us with an overpriced bill and 75% leftovers. Visited this new restaurant early last week with a friend looking for something different than the typical Thai, Malaysian and Chinese restaurants in the area. Thankfully they did not disappoint... the food was delicious. Many items on the menu were really different and unique than one of the typical restaurants. The decorations and ambiance was really well done and place was clean. Of course, that's easy when it's new. We will see after a year or so. They lost most of their stars with the service area. Staff were really friendly but some of the food took too long to come out. There was also a mixup on one of the dishes. With this place I expected premium, so that's a big part of the experience. I met the owner and he explained to me that this is not the norm. Was told the place was only open about 2-3 weeks and had a whole new staff and short on help in some areas. I can understand this as I used to work in food services, I know how much of a headache every new place goes through. Overall will definitely return in a few weeks and see when things are in order. Seeing some recent review looks like it's gotten better. The food was fantastic and this is the type of place you won't find unless you go to NYC. read more
