I had been eyeing this place for a while, and finally while biking down Campbell Ave around lunch time, I decided to give the place a try. I did not regret it. The spatzle with smoked chicken and mushrooms and asparagus was the best I've ever eaten. I know I'll be back even if it's just to have some of this heavenly spatzle The Wiener Schnitzel was quite decent, though I would say it's similar to what I've had in other places. But it didn't disappoint. Now the dessert was truly phenomenal, the berry compote nockerl was basically a German style souffle with berry puree and a side of ice cream. It was so good I'm looking forward to trying it again someday soon. The place itself was comfortable and stylish, but nothing made it stand out aesthetically in a specific way, but the food made up for that in spades. I've been here a few times over the years and I'm surprised that I haven't written a review yet! Firstly, reservations are a must, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. Everything we've had here has been great, but here are some specifics. To start the night off, folks on our table had various libations. I should have taken better notes but there's the "Austrian Maultier" and the "Yuzu Know". The Maultier was a raspberry flavored (with real berries also) and was very refreshing. The "Yuzu Know" was also very good and had some great tang and sourness (so if you're not too keen on sour, you should probably skip this one). We tried not to fill ourselves up too much so we just ordered one appetizer, the pretzel. It was warm and was delicious with the beer-cheese sauce and bacon bits. I could have easily had that by myself but I'm glad I didn't! On special for the evening was a pork goulash. There were lots of great chunks of tender pork sitting in all of it's stewy greatness! It was delicious and we had to ask for more bread to soak it all up. The classic weiner schnitzel was cooked to perfection. A good portion of pounded veal which was breaded and fried but not at all oily. It was accompanied by Austrian potato salad. Service at Naschmarkt is always great. We were greeted with a friendly smile, our waiter was terrific, and the folks bussing the tables are efficient. This is definitely a great place to go to for an all around good meal. read more

ELEVATED EXPERIENCE...hubby and I both rated our meals a 10 out of 10. We had Beef Stroganoff and Hungarian Goulash. OTHERWORLDLY: This was my immediate thought as I took my first few bites. I ordered the special: Beef Stroganoff served over soft, delicate spaetzle and fancy mushrooms, topped with sour cream and covered in the most divine, flavorful, sauce. The meat was so tender, abundant sauce. The dish was spectacular. ...a privilege to eat. I've definitely never had a better stroganoff in my life, and would actually put this as one of the best meals I've ever had. I know I rate a lot of foods as amazing or top notch, but this is different because it was just an ELEVATED taste in every way. FINISHED MY GOULASH. Because we missed the lunch window, we decided to fast until dinner. As a result, I ate my entire meal, despite being the queen of leftovers. I learned that next time I'll need to put some aside first, because I was definitely a bit too full because they gave a generous portion. HUNGARIAN GOULASH: Once in a while, hubby just really craves this, but he hadn't found that perfect blend of spices he's been going for...until now. The meat was tender, and the sauce was smooth with a mild kick, yet not bitter. Loaded with flavor, topped with sour cream, and a good serving size. Although he ended up getting an extra side of spaetzle near the end, because it was so good, he admits regretting this. Not only did he feel overly full, but by adding all that extra to his dish, he threw off the perfect ratio of sauce to spaetzle. He vows to not do this again. Of course, I have tried making Goulash a few times and it was okay, but not near as good as this. SERVICE/AMBIANCE: Our server was friendly and helpful, and while Beef stroganoff wasn't on the specials list that day, the server said we can always call ahead and ask, but he'd check with the chef just in case. They had everything on hand...so they made it just for me. Really, the overall feeling here is such a positive and welcoming vibe. Little lamps on the tables, comfortable seating, we had such a great evening. COST: This is fine dining, so it's reasonable that you can expect to pay more for dinner, but like many establishments, the lunch versions are less. We have no regrets on dinner. This was an elevated food experience and it tasted like it was prepared by a Michelin star chef. read more

Tried something different this year for Valentine's dinner at Naschmarkt. Had to wait a little outside as our table was not quite ready. However once seated service was incredible. The menu was prix fixe but had a nice selection. My wife had the beet salad. Two different types of beets which were slightly sweet w great texture, mandarins, arugula, goat cheese and lite vinegrete. For the main courses we enjoyed the Kraut Rouladen and Jager Schnitzel. The meal was topped off by their excellent Salzberger Nockeri soufflé. Light and fluffy accompanied w Greek yogurt ice cream. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a tasty experience. Naschmarkt has been a new Modern European staple in downtown Campbell for numerous years and it is one of the best if not better spots on Campbell Ave. Made a reservation online and our table was ready upon arrival. Both expanded outdoor along with indoor air conditioned dining were available with some staff even wearing a mask. Naschmarkt Campbell is the original Naschmarkt and the Palo Alto branch off of California Ave is now open. Naschmarkt used to be in the Michelin guide. With a touch more consistency and finesse with the food and service, Naschmarkt could have potential. Parking is available on the street or in a city owned garage a couple blocks away. Started off with the complimentary bread and it was lackluster and it was reheated. The butter wasn't anything memorable either. The scallops appetizer was good although it only featured 2 big scallops whereas there were 3 big scallops on previous visits. The scallops were seared on the outside and on the rare side on the inside. The sauce was excellent. The sweet corn soup was a seasonal item and also fantastic. I loved how the base of the soup had a couple pieces of popcorn, quite a nice contrast to the sweet corn soup that was poured tableside. The seared halibut seemed to be a new addition and was decent. The halibut was seared to a well done and the bed of fresh tomatoes and peppers were decent, although they could have been sweeter and even riper. Meal ended off with the apple strudel which was excellent as usual. Super fresh, flaky pastry and complemented phenomenally well with the side of cream and ice cream. I cannot say enough about this place! We came for our 25th wedding anniversary. The ambience is amazing, what a beautiful place! Service was spectacular all the way around. The waiter recommended fabulous wine and cocktails as well! We shared the best salad which was amazing! The pretzel was soft and warm. Jägerschnitzel and Goulash were both very good. I have been to Naschmarkt several times over the last 3 years. I generally order the goulash because I love the dish and you can't find it anywhere else. I admit the last time I was there it was a long time ago but the quality has gone down substantially. The goulash was mediocre at best. The meat was hard like a rock and the sauce was more a light tomato sauce (ketchup consistency) than paprika goulash jus. We also ordered two glasses of wine that were maybe 4 onces, if that. On top of that we waited 40 min for our food, with the restaurant more than half empty. It may be a change of ownership or cutting costs but not worth the money anymore. read more

First time here and let me say it was soooo good! We had a reservation for 7 and were seated pretty quickly. I didn't know it was the manager seating us and he promptly took my jacket and brought us water of our choice. The place is small but cozy. I was worried it would feel too busy and not intimate enough but it worked for us. It had a covered area out front and inside area which is where we sat. I will say it was louder than I would have liked but it didn't ruin the experience. It is because the kitchen is open to the dining area. The service was likely the best service I've ever experienced. ALL of the servers were attentive, friendly, smiling and quick to fill water, take plates , but not make you feel rushed. Matt was our server and he was great. The drink I got was some blueberry smash and it wasn't too strong or too sweet. Great flavor. The first appetizer we got was the sausage trio - omg one is spicy so good great quality, the middle was beef and was average, and the last was also a well spiced sausage. Really enjoyed this. The cheese and pretzel was good but the cheese wasn't as thick or flavorful as I would have liked. Still both were a solid 4.5/5. We also split a serving of the garlic soup - whoa if you like garlic and butter this is your dream. Was good, not what I expected but good, probably wouldn't need to order again. Main course for me was the pot pie - flavor was on point! It was wateryer than I would have liked but the quality and way the contents were cooked was superb. I was thrown off on the sweetness of the crust and the fact it wasn't a true pot pie! So sad it was not enough crust and was sweet. It was light flaky and flavorful. Wow! I haven't been impressed by a restaurant as much as I was visiting here in a longtime. The service was exceptional, we loved how the host came to check up on us and helped us with our coats- it's the little things that really matter! Our waiter Jonathan was very attentive as well and truly just let us take our time. The drinks were incredible! We tried the Clover Cove, Paper plane, cherry bourbon sour, blueberry bramble, and the banana dessert cocktail. I could literally come here for the drinks alone. The food was exceptional- we went with traditional dishes and tried the cheese pretzel, beef Hungarian goulash, and the Kraut Rouladen. All so different in terms of flavors and richness. Always ask what the special are that day, they do not disappoint. Sausage trio - 5 stars 3 sausages served over sauerkraut and topped with caramelized onions and side of mustard. Yummy! We came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Reservations are recommended by the host, even though the restaurant was pretty empty, they're also pretty small with not many tables. There's a farmers market on that street on Sundays, so you will need to drive around. Allow time to find parking. Prices were a bit higher than expected, but that's our fault for not being prepared. The lunch menu was very truncated. Our group of four got a classic weinersnitzle, two plates of goulash, and a weinersnitzle sandwich. We requested bread service and they gave us one hunk of bread with five slices for four people, and the bread was quite hard on the ends. It was OK, I don't recommend if you don't like chewing tough bread. The entrees in general concensus had good flavors and good portions. If anything we were lacking vegetables, at least for the goulash. It was my first time having goulash. I didn't know how to eat it. The host must have seen me and my boyfriend eating it awkwardly, lol. He came by and suggested mixing the meat to shred it, then thoroughly mixing in the spatzle. This took on a completely different profile. It was a good beef stew before, it was a different profile all mixed together. Thank you so much! Instructions are highly appreciated. It has been too long since I've been able to enjoy this superb restaurant. Tonight we are seated at the bar with a clear view of the kitchen. It's a full kitchen with a calm demeanor. Our order goes in. Pretzel with cheese and bacon dip is a perfect start. I've ordered a nice spritzer from the bar and a German beer. I won't be spelling the name, lol!! We then had the avocado, cucumber soup. It's so bright and fresh! What a great starter. Dinner is the salmon (trout) perfectly prepared over peas in creme fraiche. Came here on a Sunday evening for outdoor dining during the pandemic. As this location is in Downtown Campbell, parking was a bit tricky and I ended up parking in a lot with paid parking. The outdoor dining is along the sidewalk, and the setup is not the optimal for outdoor dining but it's to be expected in a downtown. I don't eat German/Austrian food often, but the food was delicious. I had the sausage trio for an appetizer, Kraut Rouladen, pork belly, and an apple strudel for dessert. All the sausages in the sausage trio paired extremely well with the sauerkraut and caramelized onions. The pork belly was delicious, but I felt that the star of the show was the Kraut Rouladen (meats stuffed in some cabbage and leeks). The dish was very unique and I enjoyed the flavors of the dish. As the evening progressed, it became colder but the apple strudel was nice and warm, even though it was paired with some vanilla ice cream. Menu: see pics, full beer and wine list although did not order alcohol. Needed to keep stomach ready for the food. All entrees were so good, definitely did not disappoint when we wanted something a little different to celebrate a birthday. The kraut/red cabbage all tasted good, and what I hope is made in-house vs bulk gallons of premade low quality veg. This tasted close to what I had in the bygone era of int'l travel to Europe. Soup/Salad: Sweet Corn Soup - If you're a corn lover you'd definitely appreciate this dish. Goat Cheese Purse Salad - I really enjoyed this salad. I'd order it again. Nice atmosphere and extremely friendly staff welcomed us here for our first time here tonight. Beautifully prepared appetizers and entrees that were very delicious. For appetizers, we ate butter lettuce salad, goat cheese purse salad and pretzel with beer cheese sauce. Our entrees were tagliatelle pasta with lamb ragout, Jager schnitzel with spaetzele and traditional Wiener schnitzel with Austrian potato salad.
