Big fat juicy hamburgers. Happy there is a Nations in Fremont now as I grew up on the one in Hayward. We came in late night and got our food quick. Hamburger just as I remembered big and juicy and fresh lettuce tomatoes and a little too many onions. I always take some off. Fries and point. My son got the grilles cheese ans liked it. Was cravin' this for dinner tonight. Haven't had Nation's in ages and thought it would be a great surprise for the family. Thank goodness the burgers were good because the customer service from the young man behind the cashier station was non-existent. He told me the shake machine was down and what else did I want instead. When there was nothing else I wanted and asked about a possible refund for the shakes, he asked "well, what else do you want instead?" He finally gave me a refund of $15 for the 3 shakes, but made it clear that I had to have been the one to place the online order and he was only refunding the $15 for 3 shakes if I could produce my bank card. If I didn't give him the card, there was nothing else he could do. My online order was also 10 minutes later than the pick-up time AFTER I had arrived 20 minutes earlier than the scheduled pick-up time!! He was rude to another customer who came in as well. She wanted a chocolate pie and he took it out of the cold case and lifted it up and shoved it directly into the nose of another worker, who was bagging my food, before putting the pie in a box/bag while giggling because the other worker told him to "knock it off". He literally dropped the bag on the counter and yelled "here it is" to the customer and walked away from the counter still giggling. This is one place I will never visit again. read more

2 stars is for the poor customer service by Ophilia who happens to also be the manager of this establishment. The pies are always 5 star delicious! However on this day there happened to be 2 new pies there that we wanted to sample -- the pumpkin cheese cake and the chocolate cream pie. Ophilia gave us one tiny piece for the 3 of us to sample and denied the chocolate one saying that there were no sample slices avail. She obviously did not look hard enough cuz there was a slice avail. In addition to that Ophilia had poor people skills in that when interacting with customers -- you should pay attention to them instead of socializing with the coworkers when in a selling transaction. So far I have been to two Nation's location. The one in Alameda and Fremont. Sunday I was in the mood for a breakfast even though it was already close to noon. Hubby suggested Nation's and we were good to go. It was busy. Lots of people having breakfast and lunch. Hubby ordered a cheeseburger meal for himself and giant three-egger with toast & hash browns for the kids and I. Hubby's cheeseburger was yummy. Kids & I enjoyed the breakfast. Before we hubby bought a slice of cheesecake topped with cherry glaze for me and a slice of pumpkin pie topped with whip cream for the kids. 2 thumbs up for the cheesecake and pie. We will definitely be back for breakfast! read more

Almost good guilty pleasure burgers, since 1952. And it's in the deep back of a parking lot that doesn't look like it has been dealt with since the 20th century, and in the back, just long grass and tumbleweeds. It's amazing the place stands, but the burgers (and great pie slices) are somewhat a Bay Area relic. Too much mayonnaise, it's like half the jar went on my burger (which is like a fatter In & Out burger and just as cheap), but you know what? Next time I'll say hold the mayo. Those squishy fries, some with burnt ends. That Java shake that tastes like Java gulp after gulp. More than almost. It's a good guilty pleasure. #cheapeats read more

**This review is only for the pies.** When I hear Nations, I immediately think of pie. I can't say the same about their food since I've never had it before. This location is smaller than others and definitely less ghetto. We arrived just before the line started to head out the door. We were only there to pick up two pies: banana cream pie and lemon meringue. Lucky for us, whole lemon meringue and a select few others were half off the day after thanksgiving! The service was fast and friendly. We'll definitely be back again for more pie in the future. read more

I had not literally set foot in a Nation's for years back in my college days. Since we had just taken in a huge amount of Filipino food it was of course the proper thing to do and fill in the cracks with pie for dessert. I was actually one of two people who went with the Filipino dessert so this review is for the reaction of some of the others and the ambiance of the place. Sooj and Steph plowed their banana creme pie heartily but Guri was having issues with his Pecan. I Believe he said we wanted "pumpkin" but for some reason "pecan" came out of his mouth instead. It was deemed way too sugary and then Sooj dropped the bomb that it was basically just pecans sitting on a pile of corn syrup, then crust. Yikes! It's a corn syrup pie topped with nuts! I gotta admit this place is pretty cheap as you can get burgers for under $4 which seems no different from back in the day. However this is what draws the "interesting crowds". Chock full of senior citizens, little kids, and riff raff abound. The most amusing thing I got to see was a guy who pulled up in his Lexus with these huge 22" chrome rims. These things were so huge-mungous his car was lifted. He could barely turn because the wheels would scrape the wheel well. He even had 22" written on the side of his car. Looking in the window brought me witness to the gnarliest group of folks I'd seen in a while. So this place really isn't about the cuisine, it's about the people watching :) read more

I think I prefer the older Nations in Hayward.. I don't come to Nation's very often, but usually when I do they're food is always good!!! I think this location just needs improvement. The first incident was when I ordered thru door dash last year and they forgot my pie (the dasher could have stolen it so I let it go). The second time was more recent. I ordered a half apple, half chocolate pie. The part that was supposed to be chocolate turned out to be coconut.. I would have eaten it but I'm not fond of coconut. I'm from the South Bay and I could live and breathe Nation's. That's how much I love this place. Back in 1999-2000, Nation's was in the South Bay. - Off of Sierra Rd and Piedmont Rd where Piedmont Hills High is. However, I think the location was too off and far for anyone to notice or reach it so it (sadly) closed down. I call this place "The In & Out of the Bay" before In & Out made it to Gilroy. Anytime I'm near a Nation's in the East Bay, I stop everything I'm doing to get a burger at this meat haven. I have rules upon entering this establishment: 1.) Thou shall not be afraid of the Nation's burger. It is not afraid of you. Always add bacon. 2.) Thou shall not skimp on the milkshake. It is a must to your meal. 3.) Thou shall ask for the onions cooked/caramelized. It just tastes better. 4.) Thou shall love the honey mustard sauce. (I'm not even a real fan of the sauce!) It goes with everything. I've been to many Nation's locations and this one is by far the most quiet and cleanest. I guess it's because it's located behind a few buildings off of the main street so it's hard to see. I never have issues finding parking or getting my food fast and hot. I definitely will return over and over again! I dream in strips of bacon and cheese because of this place. read more

Alright haters, step aside. This place has some satisfying pie! Although Nations struggles to hold a reputation for good or "famous" burgers, the pies are where it's at. Don't waste your breath on the burgers or hot dogs, go straight for the Banana Creme Pie. You can expect a flaky crust, creamy filling, cubes of real banana, airy whip cream, and a sliced almond garnish. I sure make it sound like this slice of bliss Is from a $$$$ french fusion restaurant of some sort... Well, it's served on a standard white diner plate and it's a decent portion so it screams comfort food; it totally is. Pretty standard breakfast food, besides the great employee's the breakfast is just meh. Not horrible, but not amazing! The only real problem I have with the breakfast is the hash browns, I know me and a lot of others love crispy hash browns! I mean who doesn't! The hash brown's were not crispy and that is kind of a deal breaker for me for breakfast! I'll still eat it but it's just not the same. As for the set up of the restaurant, I really like this location, it is convenient, right off of mowry, and they have a fabulous outdoor seating area, and the inside has quite a bit of seating. I'd go here again, and you could too if you're looking for some cheap standard breakfast! read more

I really enjoyed eating here. Myself and the girls came here after hiking mission peak. I had never been here before and they love this place. All I can say is it's greasy goodness. Cheesy and greasy goodness. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and I was so surprised by how huge they were. I mean, I know they're called "giant' burgers... but they are pretty big for a fast food joint. They were very very generous with the bacon. Like, i was expecting 3 strips, but it probably had about 5 crunchy ones. We also ordered chili cheese fries. I love how they put cheese slices as their cheese for the fries. It's different, but I like it. They're not stingy with their cheese or chili. Great. I'll come back here again. Especially if i'm craving a burger. First time at their location on Mowry. We've been to the old location near The Hub twice. Service was fine. Male cashier took our order. He must have been working all day though because he seemed tired. Didn't smile at all. Food was ready in about 10-15 minutes since there were several groups before us. Hubby had the salmon burger and if he was blindfolded, he wouldn't have known what he was eating because he couldn't taste the salmon. All he tasted was the bun. I had the cheeseburger. The patty was thick and cooked medium well, which is the way I like it prepared, but I didn't taste any seasoning on it. I asked them to add an over hard egg, which ended up being rectangular-shaped, was centered down the middle and really only covered 1/3 of the patty. I forgot to ask them to grill the onions so after the second bite, I had to pull out all of the raw onions because that was all that I tasted. For the most part, the burger was good. Hubby and I shared the french fries. Too bad it wasn't crispier. We also shared a custard pie, which was ok. When we were leaving, someone came out to stock the condiments, lids, etc. We always clear our table in fast food restaurants, but there was at least one table where the customers didn't clear their plates and trash. Nation's needs to stop expanding my waist line. I've ordered their pies (slice, half, and whole) 3 times in the last three weeks via DoorDash. I can't stop and it doesn't help that their pies are so darn good. My favorite's are the chocolate and custard. I've also tried their chili cheese dog and fries but they are not memorable so I'm putting the glory on the pies. Hometown favorite! I remember many a hung-over Sunday morning calling in a breakfast order! Breakfast is great! I had a bacon-cheese burger this time, I try not to be hung-over any more! The burger was juicy with tomatoes, lettuce, and raw onion. Awesome! They forgot my fries, they promptly gave me a credit when I brought it up. I was full from the burger anyways ... just as well! We understood and placed our order in the restaurant. We ordered two bacon cheese burgers with everything on the side with onion rings and french fries. We arrived home to find out that we have NO lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo OR mustard! I immediately called and still busy. An hour later I finally got someone on the phone and they just said "sorry". "Nothing we can do about that". I'm an adult who chooses to drink water at restaurants because I like water, and not because I'm cheap. But at Nation's Giant Hamburgers in Fremont, I was told that I could not have a "regular" cup for my water and had to use these little kiddie cups. The pies are delicious! But everything else is iffy. I've had breakfast here where some of the items on the plate were cold. I have also had their burgers which aren't that great either. They add waaay too much mayo and I think my burger had half of a head of lettuce in it along with half a tomato and onion... so they gave the illusion of the burger being 'giant', but it wasn't that great. Anyhow, I hadn't had a Nations Pie in over 7 years so when I realized there was one in Fremont, just miles away from my home, I had to go and get the chocolate creme pie. I had the chocolate creme pie almost once every half a year when I was younger and I lived close to a Nations in Albany. But, I recently relocated to SoCal and have been craving that amazing flaky crust and delicious cream for years! So when I went back for Thanksgiving, a Chocolate Creme Pie from Nations was on my list of must-haves. I walked in, and the restaurant was small. The line was almost out the door because it was a day before Thanksgiving and pies were literally flying out the door. So I get in line, buy my pie, and then walk over to the "pie station," where a nice lady was checking receipts and handing out pies. It seems like they had a really great system going for them. Every pie was sorted into it's own bin/category. The woman would just walk over and take one out of the stack. She showed it to me to ensure it was the correct pie, and I took it. So I went home, stuck it in the fridge and anxiously waited for thanksgiving morning where i totally had pie for breakfast. No regrets. It wasn't as fabulous and bomb as I remember it being (well, I was a kid so....) but it was still pretty damn tasty. Pie crust was the best part. Maybe a little TOO much whipped cream on top. I've been to Nation's before for their pies (which are pretty delicious!), but tonight, I finally got to try their burgers. My boyfriend and I both ordered cheeseburgers (cause we heard that's what they're famous for) and a side of fries. These burgers are huge! I like that they give you two slices of cheese, plenty of lettuce, and the sauce was just enough. The burger was so tall that when I opened the wrapping, the burger tipped over. The cheeseburgers are pretty bomb! I don't really get why the bacon cheeseburgers are about $1.50 more. I hope they don't only give you two slices of bacon.. The fries - bleh, they were so bland! It's like they didn't even put salt on them at all. While we were eating dinner, we overheard some horrible customer service. A customer who already got his order went back and said that he was missing something, and instead of calmly answering him, the manager (pretty sure she was the manager..) rudely told him that they didn't make a mistake with his order. Looking for a $5 burger that will satiate your inner food monster? Nations has what you're looking for. Came to this Nation's on a Wednesday night as part of our Rotaract Club's post-meeting social. This place seats a good 30 people without a problem; we had about 15 people and only took up half the venue. The service was mediocre but quick. I didn't feel any extra effort from the staff to be friendly (whereas at In and Out and some other chains, they're trained to be top notch with customer service), but it was a pretty juicy cheeseburger for just $5 plus one of the better shakes I've had (I got the java shake; definitely recommend that one). There are also so many delicious pies! I would definitely say the pies are worth having. Had some of the chocolate creme pie... delicious. I would recommend banana creme. nomnomnom goodness. All in all, the price is good and the food is filling, and it isn't crowded so this place is definitely on my list when I need a filling and cheap bite. read more

Had to go to this place because nothing else was open after a long day. After the kid behind the counter refused to crack a smile, extend a greeting, or even ask "How can I help you?" It should have been enough for me to say never mind, and leave. The order took a while, which was fine, but all of a sudden they just started calling order numbers that 5 tickets after mine and a few people In front of me. The line cooks then had to be told, "Hey you should be making the orders in the order they are numbered on the ticket." Finally got my order, and as I walked to my car I realized I should have had double the amount of food.
