Quite simply, this was the worst diner food in recent memory. The New England clam chowder was so thin and watered down that it was tasteless, besides being cold. The liver and onions with bacon came out so undercooked and cold that I had two bites and took the rest home for my dog. Rather than complaining to the waitress (she was pleasant and it's not her fault), we decided we are never returning again. Let me preface this review by stating that I don't write very many. In fact, I think this is my 3rd one ever. My family and I went to dinner at the Nautilus tonight. This was probably my 2nd or 3rd time here, but a first for my kids. Both of my daughters have food allergies (my oldest is allergic to peanuts and my youngest is allergic to peanuts and wheat). The last time I was there, I noticed that they carried gluten-free bread. I figured my youngest would enjoy her favorite, a burger, on bread that she could actually eat and not get sick from. Out waitress, Veronica, came by to take our order. I gave my usual spiel about the kids' allergies before ordering and she responded with a shocking, "wow, they're really messed up." My mouth dropped to the floor. My girls looked down at their laps, mortified. Then, she chuckled and said, "they must get it from their father." Are you kidding me???? I let her finish taking our orders while contemplating whether or not I should tell a manager what had happened. My girls begged me not to make a scene. I guess they were embarrassed enough. I just couldn't believe the lack of professionalism we witnessed tonight. I can only hope she (or upper management) reads this review and she can be properly trained on how to deal with customers. My family doesn't go out to eat that often due to their allergies, but to be made to feel inferior when we do go out is just hurtful. read more

I've been to Nautilus Diner many times but have recently noticed a very big change for the worst as far as food quality. Do they have a new cook who's not up to speed? Maybe but I think they have changed their food supplier for a much cheaper, lower grade of food. I ordered baby back ribs that were clearly not baby back as there were two bones running across the back, unlike any baby back I've ever seen. They were very over cooked, dry & a saw would have been a better option than a steak knife to cut through them. My friend ordered shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. While the crab meat was very tasty, the shrimp were hard as a rock- like plastic (completely inedible) that were left on the grill for two days. Any diner can serve a decent breakfast, as eggs, waffles or omlets don't take a master chef but serving a good, edible dinner takes a good grade of food and a talented cook, which Nautilus now lacks. I've even had a neigjbor say that a few weeks ago they had dinner at Natulis, raved about it, to return there, order the same menu item and found it tasted like road kill - completely horrible and inedible. Totally disappointed! Ordered fried Calamari and cheeseburger deluxe. Usually the burger comes with a pickle and coleslaw. Nothing!! The calamari came to the table and was like rubber. Recently went to the Nautilus diner with a party of 15 for lunch. The waitress was ok, but some members of our group didnt get their meals till others nearly finished theirs. Coffee refills were spoty at best as was water refills.. The food was fair, not worth the price but as most memebers were local it was the place to meet, next time I think not..The manager should of come to the table of a large party and asked if all was good, never did nor offered any incentives to come back..With all the diners in a 3 mile location, if the Nautilus wants to stay around it better get its act together with food, pricing and service... read more

Finally...My wife and I went to the newly renovated reopened Nautilus Diner earlier this week for dinner. Upon entering we both looked at each other and commented how beautiful the new decor looked. High tech I said. She agreed. We were seated at a booth by a very nice, polite young lady. We were handed one menu each and afforded some time to choose something to order. I had to comment right away to my wife how impressed I was with the menu, the many different varieties to choose from. Obviously a lot of hard work went into creating the menu from the colorful layout, a multitude of dining categories to choose from, and all reasonably priced. We were both very impressed. My wife ordered the crab cake dinner of which she truly enjoyed. I went for something I've had often enough here in years past and at the other diners around town, a cheeseburger deluxe. And we didn't have to wait around for our dinners to arrive at our booth like others here are saying. Our order was place and in no time brought to our table cooked to order. My wife absolutely loved the crab cakes, I was pleasantly surprised not only was this a bigger cheeseburger than elsewhere the side portions also were more than I expected. Perfectly cooked fries, huge onion rings topped off with crispy fresh icy cold lettuce and tomatoes. More than satisfying, I was in burger heaven. A few days later we were out visiting friends, came home to late to cook. I was hungry my wife choose to go to bed. Here I was back at the Nautilus Diner ordering a cheeseburger deluxe to go. Delicious! Next time I'll try something different. I'm confident I'll enjoy what ever I choose. read more

Today I experienced Nautilus Diner for the first time. As someone who is observant, aware, logical, assertive and a savvy shopper, I feel good about my rating of this establishment! From the neatly manicured parking lot to the appealing exterior decor...from the perfect temperature inside to the service of our friendly server....from the crystal clear delicious water to the perfectly cooked eggs! As I ate my meal, I noticed the manager/owner walking to and from the front of the house throughout the table area, and even scanned the counter area visually and often. This gentleman has total pride of ownership! He wants to hear from you, and it shows! If something goes wrong, he will fix it, make you whole, and THEN some! I'm pleased to have experienced this beautiful diner. I'm confused, however, at all the others who have given "good to excellent" reviews for Nautilus yet only gave 4 stars! Nautilus Diner is a Massapequa staple. Great Burgers, Sandwiches and Breakfast ware. The atmosphere created by a recent renovation makes the experience outstanding. As diners go, it's difficult to surpass this family owned establishment. read more

The service and quality of the food is very inconsistent. My family and I ate at this diner for several years before it closed and was renovated. For the most part the service and food quality was consistently good. I cannot say that now. Of the 6 or 7 times I have eaten there, twice the meal and service were decent. On my last visit, the server gave me flat soda and left off the side I was supposed to receive. The chicken salad was definitely not fresh. I could not eat most of the meal. My father ordered baked clams that were like rubber. The owners should have spent more money finding good cooks and serving staff rather than on the glitzy interior. The meals are also too pricey especially if the food is not good. We have decided not to return. read more

We have breakfast there every week or two and the breakfasts are very good. The hash is great, all egg dishes are very good. good coffee. The wait staff are friendly along with the owners. The place re-opened with an all new interior. Looks great and it's clean. read more

I live right in Nassau Shores so I was extremely excited when the diner opened back up. My boyfriend and I haven't had the best service though. For example, we were waiting for our check for over 10 minutes as we watched our waiter watching the soccer game on TV. We still came back after that but, we went to the diner the last two Friday's around 730-8pm and there was hair in my food and then hair in his food. Now we will never go back again. It's really unfortunate because it's so close by but I'm not risking having hair in my food again. read more

Just had Father's Day breakfast there, wow, food was good but the service and management was not. First my 14 year old daughter is not a big eater so she always orders kids portions at diners, waitress told us she was too old and had to order a full portion, management rules. Isn't a diner about ordering what you at anytime from side of fries to complete dinner. Ok so I didn't mind that so much since what she ordered didn't vary much as a adult size meal. All our food came out cold and our server forgot that my daughter ordered a side of cheese fries. She apologized and said she would rush the order out. She did that and said these would be on the house since she made a mistake, great, nice gesture. Unfortunately the cheese fries made the bottom of the check as well as an extra two cups of coffee for when the server came by and topped off our half empty cups. Since when do they charge for topping off you coffee at a diner, especially one refill, I can see if you sit there for hours and just drink coffee, at some point they have to charge you for another cup. I don't go to diners that often because I don't like to eat rediculous portions but this is one I won't visit again. I'm sure they would have charged us a sharing charge like a high end restaurant if we all didn't order complete meals. You are a diner not a high end restaurant . Let me also state that I spent most of my life in the restaurant business, as a toddler my father owned diners his whole life and I owned successful restaurants so I want to say that I speak with a lot of knowledge about the hospitality world. read more

My wife and I have eaten there many times since it opened have not experience any of the negative of the things stated in these reviews. We were last there last night and had a good meal, the service was also good, the place was very clean.
