TL;DR: GF or non-GF, this place slaps! This place is everything a gluten free gal could ever hope for! My partner isn't gluten free and he loved it! We met Nece, too, and she was such a peach! She recommended some things with us and made us feel right at home. She informed us about the fresh bread, which we were sure to pick up (heads up - it's pricy but totally worth it). We also got a mini-chocolate cake, a shortbread cookie, and a muffin. My partner also got a chai. My favorites were the bread and the cake. That cake...swoon! It was so rich and chocolatey. Mmm! The bread held nicely over the night we camped and to when we got back the next day. I sliced it up and put it in the freezer so is always have it on standby. This is such a great place to visit! This place is the real deal!! First of all, it's the cutest place ever! Nece is a gem and was just so helpful. I have dairy and gluten allergies and they were easily able to accommodate me. We ate there for lunch and my hubs and I reached enjoyed a huge sandwich that was warmed and absolutely delicious!!! I then went back in for dessert and chose the best lemon bar I've ever tried next to my Aunt's of course. Just the perfect tartness!!! I loved it. We showed up (unknowingly) after close looking for a last-minute Mother's Day cake last May. Nece saw us weirdos peering thru the window, and unexpectedly opened her shop back up for us. I live up near Santa Cruz and will happily drive to Monterey just for this bakery. LISTEN. Nece's GF is a step above the rest. We stumbled upon this little gem on our recent trip and it is excellent. The coffee cake was so good and moist. The brownies are huge and so good. The snickerdoodle's were delicious. It was so good we came back the next day on our way out of town... picked up a lemon scone and ham and cheese roll. I'm the only one of the three in my group who is GF and I was fighting them off of my baked goods -- you truly cannot tell it's gluten free. Two words -- THE BROWNIES!!!!!!!! Wow!!!!! My friend is not gluten free, and she said, "This is objectively an exceptional brownie!" I couldn't agree more. It's so chocolately, with HUGE chocolate chips, and it also just has an amazing, gooey texture -- everything you can want in a brownie! When you go to Nece's, definitely pick one up! The muffins and cookies were amazing too. Again, my friend had to ask after she took her first bite of her blueberry muffin, "Are you sure this is gf??" This place is heaven on earth for celiacs! I live about 150 miles away but whenever I'm in the Monterey area a visit to Nece's is priority on my agenda. First, the shop is super cute and very nicely kept, clean, bright and open. Second the owners are so nice! I always feel welcome and appreciated at Nece's. Last and most importantly, the baked good and sandwiches are AMAZING! I've had celiac for more than twenty years (probably all my life but didn't know it) and I've gone to gluten free bakeries in the Bay Area which are good, but not nearly as high quality as Nece's. The breads and baked goods are freshly made to perfection. I recently had a pastrami sandwich. It was delicious. All of the ingredients were fresh and the sandwich was served hot! Obviously this place doesn't need my review. It gets predominantly 5 star reviews for a reason. My daughter, who is Gluten Free, decided to fly up to visit for Mother's Day and we decided to avoid the crowds and make it a really special occasion by having High Tea at home. I called Nece's the Mon. before and asked for 3 of everything on the menu for Sat. I'm sure that her eyes bugged out for a second but, after she recovered her composure, she took my order and promised that it would be waiting when I arrived. True to her word, when I arrived Sat. afternoon her son greeted me at the register and his mom came out with 4 boxes that smelled heavenly. She trained him on how to ring up the order and offered his help to get my order to the car, but I could see that he really wanted to play baseball with his brother, so I took care of it. My car smelled SO good on the way home. To tell the truth we could not wait until Mother's Day to sample a goodie or two. Nether my wife nor I are GF but the samples were delicious GF or no. When our daughter showed up and was presented with two heavily laden Tea Trays full of food she could eat she was ecstatic! I admit, I did miss a couple of menu items, but 3 of almost everything was a huge amount of food. Every morsal was delicious, both the sweets and the savories. There was not one bite that hit a sour note. Granted, the stuff is pretty expensive, but it sure is worth it. As we were digesting our daughter was expressing her concern that her husband, who is Lactose Intolerant, would not be able to enjoy the bounty. I dashed a note off on their contact page and, even on a Sunday, I got a response that said that they are able to accommodate both of their sensitivities. They are now our family bakery. My sister turned me on to Nece's a few years ago. She's a local, and we live in SoCal. She brought down some of Nece's GF brownies, and MAN, oh MAN, are they delicious, as well as HUGE!! My husband and I were visiting my sister up north this past week, and we stopped in to buy some brownies for dessert. We just might have also bought a half-dozen chocolate cupakes with buttercream frosting and a lemon bar to share with our family!! The cupcakes are dense and and not-too-sweet; the frosting adds the sweetness! Amazing! The lemon bars are also to-die for! The filling is a perfect combo of sweet/sour, and the crust tastes just like a shortbread cookie! Absolutely delicious!! If you're counting calories, do yourself a favor and avoid Nece's! LOL! I can't tell you how much I loved this place! My husband and I are now so sad we live 200+ miles away. The panini was the best sandwich I've had since being diagnosed celiac for the past two years. My husband and I got the Italian herb and cheese bread and it's everything I have missed so much about bread. Good texture, amazing taste, and it wasn't half the size of a normal bread. Nece created a wonderful, two-layer red velvet cake with vanilla frosting that was gluten-free and vegan for my wedding and it was amazing! The flavors of the cake and frosting were the best I ever had and it didn't even taste like the typical gf/vegan pastry you might get. The cake was super moist and the frosting was delicious without being overly sweet. Nece and her team were extremely communicative with the cake and the tasting and delivered the cake right on time. The cakes looked gorgeous but we were traveling so had to pass sadly. Sweet and savory are both fantastic. Don't pass up the sandwich rolls for taking home. They are so good! I didn't think I would ever say that about GF sandwich rolls (IYKYK) but these are real bread! We don't live n the area so stocked up to freeze when we got home.
