COME HERE IF YOU LOVE SEAFOOD! I went there on a busy Friday night, around 9pm. The wait list was over an hour long... but the wait was worth it ! Their raw oysters, and it was delicious! Buttery and fresh. The Spanish octopus was to die for! It's so soft and slightly crispy on the outside. The mussel appetizer was amazing as well. It had many layers of flavor. Freshness from the basil, savoriness from the sausage and garlic, and a slight kick from the chilly flakes. My main entree, the lobster spaghetti was decent. I personally preferred the appetizers and raw oysters. The spaghetti was lacking a bit of flavor. The service was amazing and attentive. As many have written before me, this is a TINY place. There's a row of tables against the wall and a bar on the other side, and about 1.5 feet of space between patrons seated on either side. We went there very early on a Friday evening (around 4pm), and waited no more than 15 minutes before we were seated. The menu isn't exceptionally large, and really the only thing that called out to us was the lobster roll, so we both ordered that with clam chowder to start. The clam chowder is definitely not the thick, gloopy kind but was very runny. Despite the cream, I would go so far as to describe it as "light," with a lot of very chunky, sweet claims and some well-cooked potatoes in it. The flavor was pretty delicious, and we liked it. It's $13/bowl, but with the amount of soup in the bowl as well as the delicious clams, I'd say it was worth it. The lobster roll was $31, and price-wise, I'd say you get a lot of lobster for that price: it was a very generous helping of lobster, and one of the very few lobster rolls that I finished and said, "Dang, I'm full." We both got them with butter rather than mayo. The rolls were soft and buttery and had the perfect texture for a hot lobster roll. The lobster itself was so succulent and sweet, but both of us thought it needed a tiny bit more of seasoning. Maybe this is sacrilege to say, but I think it would've been my favorite lobster roll ever if there was a dash of celery salt on it. As it was served, I'd say the best lobster roll I've ever had has not been unseated from that throne yet. Expect a 30-45 minute wait and every seat in the restaurant to be filled. Totally worth the wait. Love the oysters, but my absolute favorite dish is the Northend Cioppino with lobster. It is in a spicy broth served with saffron rice. Delicious. Great fried Ipswich clams - batter is light and they have a homemade tartar sauce. Lobster roll is another amazing dish, the warm butter is my favorite on a brioche and you really get your money's worth of lobster. Try to score a seat at this restaurant - a must for lobster & oyster lovers. They obviously have the fresh oysters but it is the the lobster caprese salad that keep me going back for more! They don't have it on the menu because it is a seasonal dish - only available when they can get heirloom tomatoes. It is a huge salad, easily can be split with 2 people, a little much for me to eat by myself. Salad is rather pricey - $30+ but it's worth it. Just like every restaurant in Boston, they too serve lobster roll - hot or cold. I prefer the hot one personally but I don't think you can go wrong with either. Now, here's the downside, this restaurant is tiny, not many seating capacity so wait time is usually excessive, especially if you have a party bigger than 2! Try to come during off peak hours. Yeah u will more than likely have 2 wait in line 2 get in...but once u get in, it's worth the wait (in line abt :20 & this was b4 11 am). Every time she walked across the bar, checked how we were doing & filled out wine/water glasses. Now the food...I ordered the special of the day, lobster spaghettini (out of this world!!!), my daughter got crab salad (lots of shredded crab & huge portion of fresh veggies) & my mom was dying to try New England clam chowder (too much white pepper for our taste). The oysters...WOW, there was a list of abt 12 different varieties. Their lobster roll wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still really good! The bread roll was a bit dry. Fries were great though! My main complaint with this restaurant was the service. Our server was not friendly, and many times the hostess was the one waiting on us. When a couple was sat next to us, their service was way better - had all the specials read to them, brought wine samples, were given recommendations, etc. I probably would have ordered the calamari special that was written on a wall we couldn't read/see from our seats but was never told about it. Unfortunately, this seems to happen all too often as a girl in her 20's out with friends. Servers shouldn't assume that because someone looks younger that they're not worthy of good service - just because I'm younger, doesn't mean I don't make good money and am not capable of paying and tipping well. To top it off, she circled the tip options at the bottom of the check which started at 20%. I usually tip over 20% for good service, but there's no chance I'm tipping that high when all my waitress brought was water and clearly did not make an effort to provide us a good experience. Overall, the restaurant is cute and food was good, but I would not wait in line for it again. There's plenty of places nearby that have great reviews as well, so I'd recommend trying elsewhere. read more

This place is definitely on the nice sit in place, whether you're at the bar or at a table. The waiters/waitresses were super nice and helpful to the questions we asked. We got oysters, clam chowder, and a salad. Overall we really enjoyed eating here. The only downside to our experience wasn't Neptune's fault, but the party sitting next to us. They didn't put down their actual party size and kept trying to go into our space by fitting more people at the bar. Even the people working there were on the wtf attitude side. This place was the first spot that I had a lobster roll. As you may know the New England area is famous for this dish. Be patient when going to this place. Since this is one of the go-to's for lobster rolls, the wait is always long. We showed up at noon expecting this and there was a two hour wait. My suggestion is to get placed on the waiting list and grab a drink at a bar within walking distance. Lobster rolls are generally served cold with mayo or warm with melted butter. I tried mine warm with butter but I may have taken a bite (or five) of my friends cold item. Both were delicious along with the French fries that came with them. Food: I absolutely loved the food here! I've had both the cold mayo and hot butter lobster roll and definitely recommend the hot butter, it melts in your mouth. I think the lobster roll is greatly priced especially since it comes with a huge heap of yummy hand cut fries. Besides the lobster roll, I recommend getting the Neptune Johnnycake. It's a sweet "cake" with savory Boston smoked bluefish and sturgeon caviar on top, smothered with honey butter. It's an interesting flavor combination that every group should try! Restaurant: It's a tiny restaurant so you have to make sure that you plan ahead for wait time. It gets very busy during lunch/dinner time, but I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes. 4.5 stars for most famous lobster roll in Boston- really delicious but watch out for long lines and spending $$$. I love that you can customize your order for the lobster meat to be (1) hot or cold, and I definitely wanted the hot version, and (2) to be ordered with fries or salad, and we got one of each. The waitress also recommended the hot version sandwich. The bun was a lot softer and squishy or than I expected, but I actually really liked it because I enjoyed how it felt like it melted in your mouth (there was a lot of butter fyi!). There is a lot of good size lobster pieces in it since some rolls feel like they don't put enough lobster. I would probably go out for a lobster roll for a special occasion but it's pretty expensive for just a regular dinner out ($34/roll for market price when we went). I'd recommend getting one if you're in town because traveling somewhere new is a special occasion! I saw a LOT of people on dates when we went, hah. Long wait and they don't take your name down, you have to just wait by the door instead in the line and it's quite narrow if a sidewalk. Not the most handicap friendly since there's no seating nearby as well. The bathroom is also really really tiny and not easy to move around as well. There is both indoor as well as outdoor seating. You can order takeout online, but they don't serve lobster rolls. We also ordered raw oysters (they were all good but I'm no expert) and the uni toast (skip this, not worth it, you should get the raw uni instead because the toast had no uni flavor). I think I would have liked the restaurant more but the uni toast was really disappointing :(. read more

I'm from NYC and have never been a really big fan of lobsters roll but Boston just hit different. It made me actually want to come back and get another one. You will not be disappointed. I tried it bc I wanted to try sea urchin and figured if I could have it for the 1st time it might as well be here, though I wouldn't order it again. The hot buttered lobster roll is really the star here. Idk why anyone would order anything else. The servings are generous and our server was very nice. Being a new Englander I've had my fair share of crappy lobster rolls. This one is definitely one of my favorites now. The bread soaks up the butter making it even more tasty on the bottom.
