What an amazing store with amazing owners! I was biking through the city the other week and realized my handlebars were coming loose, causing my wheel to rotate off center. It was quite dangerous so I dismounted and looked for a bike shop nearby on Yelp. Silly me forgot to bring an allen wrench with me... rookie mistake! When I rank the bell, I was pretty surprised when the owner let me borrow an allen wrench and simply asked me to leave it by the door when I was finished. No charge, no fuss, nothing! What you need to know: - Small bike shop run by an amazing Chinese woman - Speaks English - Incredible and absolutely unbeatable prices! - Super friendly - the owner will give you free water and tea while you wait - Beware of her dog! He's friendly but hefty and curious! - Cash only folks! What I ordered: - I had my brake pads changed. I normally buy my own brake pads because it's a brand that places may not have, but I usually feel guilty for bringing in my own parts. But the owner here, didn't bat her eyes and said that my brake pads were very good. She initially quoted me $10 per tire, but that would have included brake pads. Since I brought my own, it would be just $4 per tire! It normally costs me $12 per tire and other places may replace the brakes later, because it's such a small job. But Pat, the owner, did my brakes for me immediately! I tipped her almost 100%, but even with the massive tip, it still came out only about half what it normally costs me elsewhere! - Not only did she fix my brakes, she made other adjustments to my bike because she says she wanted me to be safe. I've been a long time customer with this shop since I was a kid and their service and costs have been good and reasonable. They used to sell and repair bikes as a business, but eventually stopped selling bikes and focused on repair work. Two of my bikes were bought here and my experience with them has been decent. However, lately their business has been unsatisfactory. Despite saying they're open at specific hours, they are known to close early or randomly change their hours without notice nor explanation. This has caused me inconvenience several times, but the most offensive was when Pat assured me she'll be open and still closed up early. All the shop had to do was put a simple sign and update their hours and situation so customers would know what happened. How hard is it to leave a sign to say "Sorry! Closed due to emergency!"? Just today, it was the fourth time I came to see Pat and she closed up shop well before closing hours (again). Along with several disappointed customers, we waited for her in hopes she was out shopping, but she never showed up. I was forced to leave because someone damaged my bike as I waited for her. I ended up leaving for home with no repaired bike and even more damage, all because the shop failed to give proper notice. If such a business fail to at least measure up to such basic levels of professionalism, they're not worth my time and especially my money. I'll be seeking bike services elsewhere in silent protest. To the owners of Bo-Bo, please be consistent with your own business hours or at least leave msgs on social media, your door, and phone machine to explain why you're not there when you're supposed to. A couple years ago, I came out of work in Midtown only to find both of my tires slashed. I was bummed someone would do that, but, what are you gonna do. I was headed to meet a friend in Chinatown after work anyway, so I did a quick Internet search and wheeled my bike to New Bo Bo on two flat tires. If you ever feel like New York is too gentrified, take a trip to New Bo Bo. In short order, you'll be reminded you're in the greatest city on Earth. First of all, it's tiny. There's a button-tufted leather sofa with a bulldog on it that looks like he hasn't wagged his tail in 35 years. A TV is on, broadcasting soap operas. Bike parts are stacked floor to ceiling. It's one of those places where you walk in and have no idea what to do with yourself, until someone decides to deal with you. A woman eventually asked me what I wanted and I told her that my tires were slashed and I'd like them replaced. She agreed to do the job and I left my bike in her care. A few days passed and I walked in to New Bo Bo to find the place exactly how I left it. Dog on the couch. Soap opera playing. The woman was there, too, with my bike. The woman was incredulous, but I had trouble understanding why. After some back and forth, I finally realized she was explaining to me that my tires were, in fact, fine. After examining them, she filled them with air and they sprang back to normal. Relieved, I asked he how much I owed her. She waved me off at the mention of cost and I was instantly overcome with gratitude. She could have easily replaced the tires, like I asked, and charged me whatever she wanted. Instead, she helped me. You don't get that a lot in this city, so even now, two years later, I'm grateful for her kindness and honesty. As I rode away from New Bo Bo on my bike, I promised myself I'd leave the shop a glowing Yelp! review. Like so many self-promises that die on vines of good intentions, I forgot. Until now. If you're in Chinatown with a bike in need of service, there are a lot reasons why you should consider bringing it to New Bo Bo. I hope this is one of them. I recommend it. Both of my local bike shops have moved, so while downtown, I dropped my bike at Bo Bo's in Chinatown. A lovely woman received my bike to give it the complete once a year checkup (oil, alignment, etc.) Her prices are fair and the work is good. I didn't notice much difference at first, but my bike rides more smoothly than it has in years. I feel much safer. I am very satisfied and will happily return. read more

In regards to the foul slanderous trashy comments by Rana S. and Sasha J. posted on 3/23/19, I would like to say that I have been coming here for over a year and been to various bike shops in my time as a delivery man, who's constantly in need of bike repairs sometimes twice in one week. And the new bo bo bike shop is by for the best most reliable customer friendly store I have ever visited. Everything from their cheap and highly competitive prices, their unmatched hospitality, early to late shop hours, and adorable bulldog easily made them standout to me from the rest. Every time I walk in the door I leave with nothing short of satisfaction and a free bottle of water. I myself had the pleasure of speaking to the owner about the incident Sasha J. is referring to yesterday upon visiting for a flat tire fix. From my understanding a customer came to their shop for their FREE air to which they gladly supplied him along with additional tune ups, and sent him on his way with a customary free bottled water. The same customer foolishly returned a month and a half later claiming that his tire caught a flat after the free air they gave him and instead of coming back and paying a small fee of $10 he goes to a different shop and get up sold $24, and demanded that they paid him back. Now please keep in mind that he had no proof that it was their service that caused his flat tire, it could've been punctured from a broken glass on the street for all he knew, also it took him over a month to come back. The owner tried to reason him but he became very belligerent and inconsolable and began threatening him and hurling slurs and ultimately physically attacking him repeatedly. At one point attempting to hit him with a u-lock. He subsequently notified the cops and they apprehended him after a failed attempt to flee on his bike. The cops persistantly urged the owner to press charges on the angry customer but he willfully refused over and over again, understanding that the man was young and foolish and didn't want to tarnish his record over their dispute. He simply only wanted him to learn his lesson and never return to his shop. These are the compassionate people that we are talking about here. Most people would've happily had him arrested and charged without giving it a second thought, but in the owners own words he told me that he believed "everyone deserves a second chance, I was young and stupid too". So readers I strongly ask you to please disregard the negative remarks said about these wonderful people. They're a remarkable example of professionalism, patience, and compassion. Had to ship my bike to the west coast. The proprietor Pat got the bike packed and picked up by bikeflights/UPS. Bike arrived at destination safe and sound. The price she quoted me was half of that of other shops. Over the years I have gone to this shop multiple times and every time it was a pleasant experience. Pat was always willing to spend the time with me to explain how components work and to offer options. Always, she would sell me only things that are truly useful, and at great prices. read more

I love this place. I got a flat after leaving work late, had no cash and they fixed my tire without collateral. Who in NYC would do that? Bo Bo Bicycles! I had an earlier tear in my tire, so they swapped for a new tire and tube. I don't often leave Yelp reviews, but my experience at New Bo Bo Bicycle shop was one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. I came in to ask about pricing to install a rack on my bike after having visited a few other "affordable" bike shops around the east side for quotes, all of which were far more expensive and wanted to charge an unreasonably high installation fee. Pat was extremely kind in explaining the options she had that would work with my bike -- no pretentious attitude whatsoever, just genuine, knowledgeable, kind help. As my bike is a bit older, she found a creative fix for attaching the rack to my bike, which has proved extremely sturdy, and charged nearly nothing for the installation labor. I had a few additional tune-up related questions, all of which she set about fixing rapidly at no extra charge, just to ensure my bike was in top riding shape: readjusted my derailleur, tuned-up my gear shifting system, readjusted my seat, and topped up my tires with air. I'm not a bike expert, and don't appreciate the attitude one sometimes encounters when seeking help at bike shops. Pat took the time to explain everything she was doing and make recommendations, in a very straightforward, inclusive, trustworthy manner. This will be my go-to bike shop. Thank you Pat. read more

Pat is amazing. Friendly, patient, and a true professional. I ordered a bike online and assembled it myself using the directions that came with the bike. I decided to get it inspected since the brakes seemed to be sticking and probably not road safe. I called and brought the bike in, and Pat inspected the whole bike, she knew exactly what to check and how to adjust it. In less than 30 minutes she realigned the wheels, adjusted the brake tension, inspected the gears, attached a basket (which I ended up purchasing while in the store) and just made the bike feel how it is supposed to. All this , plus the purchase of the basket came to $35. This is my repair shop from now on. read more

Pat is the person you're looking for if you need a fix for your bike. She works quickly and does a great job! If you're in to fix one thing but she spots another issue, she'd let you know about it so you're aware of it. She's not pushy, so she'll let you decide if you want her to fix the additional damage. The place offers free bottles of water to the customers while you wait to get your bike fixed. You'll also have some company from her English Bulldog , Bebe. The pricing here is pretty cheap. Just know this is a CASH ONLY place. I came in to get my inner tube changed. Costs $4 to change. Pat's very accomodating, if you want to upgrade any bike parts, just let her know what you're looking into and she'll organize something with you to get what you need. I've recommended a friend to come here to get anything they need done. If you're in the downtown area, Lower East side and Chinatown area, this is the go to spot! read more

They actually sell good bikes here! I brought an aluminum folding bike a couple of years ago when they were just Bo Bo Toy Store with some bicycles. The bike still runs great; it runs as well as my Dahon folding bike costing 3x as much. I definitely recommend a visit here before deciding on other stores or on-line. I had received an old bike from my mom that had been sitting in a storage unit for several years. I took it to New Bo Bo for a checkup before using it for my commute. The lady was so sweet - grabbed the bike and started looking at it before I was even in the door! I just sat and patted Bibi (the dog) while she took a look. If you can believe it, she said that everything was fine and there was NO CHARGE. I usually spend so much more money on peace of mind... Can't recommend this place enough. One point is that Elizabeth Street itself is not the most bike-friendly street, as it's very narrow and parts are blocked off by construction. read more

I've always walked by this place and didn't think much of it because it didn't have shiny European carbon bikes, or an espresso machine, but I came in here for a small part, and rather than consider this possibly $2 part not worth her time, she spent a couple of minutes helping me look for what I needed. Its not a fancy place, its an everyman's bike shop, no pretensions, no attitude. A simple, practical shop for the simplest, most practical machine. Bicyle Habitat staff scared my fiancé, your bike may missing this part~ that part~ they need to order from New Jersey 0_0.. I mean that's crazy.. we just brought this bike. They charge my fiancé start from 300something. After work, I search bike store around Chinatown . We found Out Bobo has pretty good review. We took the bike from Bicyle Habitat to BoBo. Bobo setup for him in one day.( depends on how many bike they doing) anyway~ that was quick.! They only charge my fiancé way less than Bicyle Habitat.
