New Cameron Bakery Yummy Scallion Pork Floss Roll
Mike R.

Walking along Canal Street, decided to return to New Cameron Bakery, one of the Chinatown bakeries. While they also have some sweet baked goods, I gravitate to the more savory . This time to bring home, I bought a Scallion Pork Floss Roll, which also had sesame seeds. Last time, on first glance, New Cameron offered a couple items that I hadn't seen before - this Scallion Pork Floss Roll and a similar looking Pineapple Topping Pork Bun with no sesame seeds. Both were a reasonable $2.25. Then, quickly chose the Pineapple one to enjoy upon my return home. These items are wrapped and self-serve, so I could rapidly head out. Like the Pineapple Topping Pork Bun, this tasty Scallion Pork Floss Roll filling was at the end and layered throughout like filling in a Swiss Roll. For the Pineapple item, didn't really notice any specific pineapple notes, but it was tasty and a good value for the price. (In fact, wondered whether they were just more Scallion Pork Floss Rolls placed at the wrong label.) New Cameron definitely offers fairly priced options for people with a on a budget or just turned off by other venues' with over inflated prices. Will definitely head there again to try out other items. Recommend you check it out.

Local bakery shop in lower Manhattan Chinatown. They have pastry sweets and hot food. We bought some bakery items. Tasted 3/5. They also have boba tea but it's powder based. I would not get boba tea here. The staff were nice. It's a very Chinese style bakery. Lots hand written signs. No tables inside.

The People- Nice. The Boba- Fine. The pork dumplings- Hot garbage. Apologies New Cameron for the honesty. My 13 year old bit into her dumpling and she said, ' I think they made a mistake. I think they gave me seafood.' She refused to eat anymore. My husband, being a food waste hater opted to eat the dumplings. He took one bite and said it was one of the worst things he has ever eaten. he felt disrespectful for trashing the food but I gave him the ok stating if it's not good, it's not good.

Traveled here just for my coconut cream buns! Worth every step, train ride, car ride... this is the joint to get your Chinese snacks! Cash is preferred. They do take card. I'm taking these home with me! The better not get squished! Always clean.

Two Apple Pie pastries to go!
Andrew A.

Right after a long morning waiting in line of a federal government building I was deeply craving the taste of a pastry from a Chinese bakery. So I was strolling through canal st and surrounding avenues until I came across this very small establishment. This isn't a place where you'd sit and study(lounge) but you are presented with a wide varieties of baked goods and hot foods. This wasn't my first rodeo at a Chinese bakery (since Flushing, NY) but that was some time (plus a few years ago) so I was a bit intimidated(in a good way) at the options. Wasn't too sure what I wanted exactly since I honestly wanted to DEVOUR EVERYTHING on sight but I e realized these simple "Apple Pie" pastry I grabbed was definitely the right choice. I completed my purchase with a hot cup of coffee and sat at the nearby bench while I planned my next move for the day..... I was back for 2 more "Apple Pie" pastries right before they were closing (that was about 3 hours later) Please support the locals especially this establishment.

Hands down the fluffiest sponge cakes in NYC! They're so light, airy, and perfectly sweet that it's no surprise they often sell out by noon. Can't imagine how long they whip the eggs to get them this light. Pro tip: even if you don't see them out, ask the staff--if you're lucky, they might still have a few stashed away! Totally worth the gamble.

5*Portuguese egg tart: very fresh, tender and delicious 3*Butter toast: it was okay when it was cold, but I'm sure it would have been better when it was served hot.

New Cameron Bakery has the charm of an old-school bakery and is conveniently located near the uptown 6 train, making it easy to grab something on the go. The staff was helpful and fluent in English, and transactions were quick. They have a $5 minimum charge for credit cards and accept Apple Pay. The coconut buns were delicious and was consistent to the other bakeries. They had a large selection of steam buns and Lunar New Year edible things available. An area for improvement could be offering a samples of steam buns in 1 pack. Overall, my experience was positive, and I would definitely consider returning.

I love love Chinese bakery. This was my first time in here and I have to say I will be coming back here again soon. They have a great selection of baked goods and they prices still very affordable. Their bubble tea was amazingly delicious unfortunately, I didn't have time for pictures I was too hungry.

I stopped in here because my normal bakery didn't have any sesame balls, unfortunately here did. I like the fact they were sweeping up as I was coming in, kept the place nice and neat looking. All the staff were masked up, a d courteous if brusque as are most Chinese servers. It wasn't too busy as it was a little further from Mott St but had all the basics of a bakery, tea and coffee and plenty of baked goods. I was disappointed by the $2 sesame balls, the scene outside was nice and crunchy with sesame but the rice flour hadn't quite melted all the way to a mochi like consistency, and so it was almost like a cake consistency underneath instead of the normal sticky rice gel that you get when it's fully cooked. The ball of red bean on the inside wasn't bad, but didn't really have any homeworks of having been melted so that told me it wasn't quite cooked all the way as I could still see the spoon marks in the ball. I'll give other pastries a shot here but probably not the sesame ball again.

If you're a sucker for orange chocolate treats like I am, they brought the popular Mont Blanc coffee from Australia to NYC, and even turned it into a pain au chocolat version! It had been about a year since my last visit, so I was happy to see they finally added some seating inside the bakery. *Mont Blanc Twice-Baked Pain au Chocolat $10** Literally my dream combo. Stuffed with a THICK layer of espresso brownie batter. The orange coffee whipped cream plus orange zest made the bitter and citrusy flavors work so well together. Still sad they sold out of the Mont Blanc drink that day... *Ramp and Leek Croissant $8.5* While their sweet pastries get all the hype, don't sleep on this savory croissant. The ramp and leek cream cheese was so good I wish they sold it separately. The croissant itself was very buttery and crispy. *Milk and Honey Sticky Bun Croissant $9.5 The milk and burnt honey crème filling was super light and overflowing. Ordered some other items I wasn't too thrilled about. You'll get a decent bite from Supermoon Bakehouse. Would I come here again? NO. Should you try it out at least once? Sure, if you like croissants. I'll discuss why in further detail. My Disappointment From Bakehouse: If you use other cultures' flavors I would assume some appreciation and recognition at the very least. The ube is passable at best, while the pandan was off tasting. I can understand the inspiration the co-founders of Supermoon Bakehouse get for their flavors since they're both Australian, but the execution comes off very insincere. As if to only place an item on the menu just for the sake of shock value. It's very upsetting seeing a successful bakery business needlessly hop on a hot trend for the sole purposing of capitalizing on it. Completely removing the history of the flavors, showing complete lack of appreciation. Those trying southeast Asian flavors for their first time, they'll be satisfied because they don't know what they should expect. White people stealing things and making it their own again cause "it's the cool thing now" without acknowledging anything; a tale as old as time I guess. You can take the flavors, acknowledge it. And at the very least, make it taste good. Ube and pandan tasted like a powder from a bag.

We figured while we were grabbing the gift card we just had to try a cookie too. When we arrived, there's a couple steps you go down to get into the store. We were helped within minutes, and I ordered the Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie, while my partner got the Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie. I believe each cookie ran a little more than $5/cookie. We threw the cookies in my backpack, got lost going to Trader Joes, and then went back to the hotel (a 40 minute journey) and to our surprise - the cookies were still warm even though it was raining outside! My partner and I demolished those cookies within seconds. They were warm, slightly crispy on the edges, so many chocolate chips inside and chewy in the middle. If I could describe the perfect cookie this would be it. I imagine this would be delightful with a cold glass of milk. I also noticed several people at JFK with Levain bags, so I'm guessing it's common to stock up and bring home. The place still seemed reasonably stocked with their desserts and treats, despite the late afternoon time that I arrived. I ordered 4 different treats to go and they're packed in small box individually. Unfortunately, they didn't quite stay intact during my trek back to my hotel and were tumbled around in the boxes. Nonetheless, the taste and flavors held up well and even after a few days in the fridge. The yuzu daisy has this vivid pastel yellow-pink base and adorable gelatinous yellow gem atop a white flower. The yuzu gives a subtle infusion of tart that is balanced out by the light delicate skin texture of the rest. Sitting atop a thin round rice crispy. I loved the red mushroom one which is a creamy pink mousse inside the cap. The stalk is a thin porcelain-white chocolate light base also filled with a rich cream. Adjacent are two cute little tree nuts. The orange and mango have such vivid colors and are aesthetically pleasing too. Just like the previous ones, their delicate chocolate exterior houses a rich tarty mousse-y filling. I think the mushroom has a better balance and variety of flavors. Although I don't eat mousse treats often, I look forward to trying some of the other ones in the future, like the blueberry, banana and cloud.

This month of May's flavor is strawberry milkshake and brown butter ganache. And it rocked! The texture of that sugary donut with layers is done really well, as some other places have pretty dry versions. It held well even with the cream inside. The cream was creamy and had a milky strawberry flavor reminiscent of those Yan Yan sticks with the strawberry flavor dip (IYKYK) or strawberry pocky. And that ganache?? My favorite part! Was a little mind-tricked since the ganache was pink like strawberry, but that brown butter was rich, deep, flavorful, and so, so good! All together, it was a buttery, milky, strawberry party-- definitely sweet but wonderful :D However, I've tried other treats from this shop (as well as the Las Vegas and Papa d'amour locations), and they're not quite as impressive as the cronut. Maybe entremets aren't my thing, but even the famed DKA (kouign Amman) is not very flavorful to me, and the texture is a bit of a turn off for me. The matcha strawberry tiramisu cake from this visit was all right; it's beautiful but "OK" for taste . The white chocolate leaf was purely for decor and not flavor. The cake part was not super flavorful in terms of matcha and was overpowered by the jam. Two bites of in, and I was okay not eating the rest. The garden seating area in the back is really nice! One part is like an indoor patio and the second portion is outside and covered. There's self serve water and a restroom too. It wasn't crowded at all on a weekday morning. While I can't vouch for all the creations in the display case, I'm definitely "team cronut" and will be returning next time for the newest Cronut flavor!
