At lunchtime on a Sunday workday I went on the hunt for an open Chinese take-out spot. I found New China Beach tucked in the corner of an industrial shopping plaza and actually thought it had permanently closed. It was actually in the extreme corner, literally a hole in the wall, next to a space for rent. If you love hole in the wall Chinese takeout, this place is as good as any other I've had and the interior looks the same. Of course the owner, who took my order, was very pleasant and polite. The wait for my shrimp chow mei fun wasn't long, and they gave me a complimentary can of soda on my way out! The chow mei fun and spring roll was pretty good and I would definitely go back!

This was really fantastic Chinese food. The place itself isn't fancy, but the food is truly something special.

The kitchen and the bathrooms looked like something out of the movie SAW. This place needs help.

What a beautiful and delicious experience we had at Ocean Hai. It's a level of elegance we wanted…read more The overall look from the entrance, the food, and the gorgeous patio is a must add to your list when in Clearwater! It was crazy hot so we couldn't sit on the patio but at sunset it was still a stunning view. Kalby was an absolute pleasure to be serviced by. She was attentive and used her talents to help recommend entrees from the menu. Our starter was the bulgogi skewers which were perfectly balanced with sweet and Korean spice. The edamame was our least favorite dish. I did discuss this with kalby and the manager. The idea was there but poor execution. The gochujang sea salt...the gochujang just wasn't there and once you ate that top layer all you got was oily edamame, so much oil...you wouldn't need chapstick for the rest of the day. Then wins though came from the cocktails. Ours were delicious and my old fashion was spot on. Also in the win was the sunset sushi, beautiful and fantastic, along with Korean crispy chicken. The peanut sauce was the perfect balance to that meal. Now...what we also loved that should be permanently on the menu was the mochi. We had 4 of them and they were wonderful! Everyone should be able to experience these. But ocean hai on your list as a must try place for sure.

First thing's first, the ambiance at this place when the sun is setting is absolutely worth having…read moredinner here. We had the nicest table right on the patio overlooking the beach and it was fantastic. Our server was pleasant when she was around, but it seemed like she went missing for long periods of time and always right when we seemed to need something. Service was generally slow and the restaurant wasn't super busy when we were there. Food was mediocre at best. We started with the bulgogi beef skewers and the ahi tuna apps. The skewers were sort of dry and chewy...and I don't know that they tasted like bolgogi. The tuna tartar app tasted heavily of lime and nothing else and the cuts on the tuna were pretty messy and made it a bit difficult to eat. The grouper entree was okay, but the piece of fish I got looked like a baseball in that it was thick and sort of round? It made it just kind of tough and overcooked on the outside and a little undercooked on the inside. The chicken fried rice was good, but nothing to write home about.

Been here 3 times before, the only reason I go back is the food is good…read more. but this time the food was subpar n cold.. service has always been lacking since first visit.. stood in front area for 15 minutes (no one was there) sat at table that we were finally put at for 15 minutes before I had to wave waitress down to place order.. i had to ask three times for a glass of water.. soup was cold had to have it warmed.. entree was cold n so was the rice only hot item was egg rolls.. I ordered the seafood tofu pot again. This is what I ordered last time without checking my review…read more I love the scallops, shrimps, tofu and bok choy. I feel that the sauce is light too. Service here was not good. Someone told me five times that someone would come and take my order. It took a while. When I see someone come in after me and they have all their food, and I have not ordered, that's not good And the other table next to me they got all their food at totally diff times. I got my food actually pretty quickly after my order was put in so I was surprised and it was piping hot. You pay at the front here, they don't give you a bill at your table. They accept cash or card. Not Apple Pay which they said they did. I told her I'd get my card in the car and she looked at me as if I was going to dine and dash. I reassured her I was coming back and I surely did. The tables can definitely be loud so just keep that in mind when picking a table if you want to talk.
