Best Singapore-style noodles of any "mom and pop" Chinese restaurant in the area. Sadly, they had a fire in late June and have been closed since then. I drove by today and there is a pretty full demolition dumpster outside, and a demo permit in the window. I hope the owners are able to recover financially and reopen, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of if or when that might be. read more

I have driven past this restaurant for a long time, always muttering to myself, "I need to stop in there one of these days and check them out." I never see a full parking lot, so I was hoping to find easy seating, once inside. Well, one of these days turned out to be last week. I made it a point to stop for supper. I ordered a Szechuan chicken dinner. It came with an egg roll and a choice of soup - I selected won ton soup. I also ordered tea (for a buck) and it came with a tea pot for self-refills. When I lived in Mt. Clemens, my wife and I routinely ordered carry-out from New Light. The food was good and healthy (even offering brown rice, rare at area Chinese restaurants). There were plenty of vegetarian selections, too (they even did Moo Shui Vegetables for me with tofu instead of egg). We still get carry-out from them on occasion when my wife is coming from that side of town. I wish that I could convince New Light to move to the Sterling Heights - Troy area since they are so much better than the other restaurants around here for conventional Chinese food. read more

Ordered carry out. Super worried when I walked into the restaurant to pick it up. Empty. On a Friday evening. I was second guessing our spur of the moment decision. My initial judgement proved to be wrong. For two, we ordered Sweet n' Sour chicken and Shrimp Chop Seuy. Total came to $20.57. Came with two egg roles and a ton of rice, which was neither sticky or undercooked. Just right. Both meals were piping hot. The sweet n' sour sauce was neither overly sweet or sour. Just right. The sauce on the side, and was accompanied by 15-20 medium sized breaded chicken pieces. Talk about value. Shrimp chop suey came with MANY fully sized shrimp. Great flavor and lots of chop suey. We figured we have 2-3 days worth of leftovers, which is perfect for a weekend. Can't go wrong with this place. Quality and value combined. $20.57 for two meals and you can't go wrong. read more

Ordered carry out tonight..the flavor was okay but the chicken & broccoli (Sesame Chicken) were mushy. My daughter had Sweet & Sour Chicken; the sauce that came with it was neon pink..not sure if that's a natural occurring color for food. Won't be hitting this one again. read more

This place is a very good takeout chinese restaurant, i have gotten lunch here countless times while working in mt clemens. I've only eaten in a couple times though and when i have the service was middle of the road at best. I'd recommend the place highly because the food is great and prices the best I've ever seen at a Chinese restaurant but id definitely say get it takeout read more

My food tasted old and recooked.... they charge extra to dine in. Sweet and Sour sauce was awful. Way to much vinegar. The rice was dry no vegetables like the traditional "fried rice" absolutely no flavor. The best thing was the broccoli and sesame sauce that drenched my old chicken. Food was terrible. Shrimp stir fry sucked. The shrimp was over cooked(was like cardboard). Ordered two egg rolls and only got one. No air in the building. Temp was 86 degrees. Saw the thermostat. Never again. Yuck!!! read more

New Light Rocks! they have awesome lunch specials w/o eggroll for 3.50 sweet n sour or almond chicken, and even if u do get an eggroll, its only like 5bucks and the eggroll is awesome, their general tao is great too - the only thing id say though is id much rather carry out than eat in here - the staff are good people but they just dont rly pay enuff attn to people in there if u ask me only reason they didnt get 5 stars from me! but the food is just great, better than anywhere around here for chinese if u ask me read more

The food here is fairly decent. I used to be a regular. Now I actually live within walking distance but prefer to drive past it to the Chinese food place on Groesbeck and 16. The reason: one bad experience. My son and I were dining in and I noticed a maybe 1 inch hair sitting atop of a noodle. I am an understanding person, things happen. How the issue is handled makes or breaks the situation. First the (only) waitress tried to tell me the hair was a bean sprout. I picked up the hair and placed it on a napkin so that she could see that it was clearly a hair. She picked up the napkin and tried to make the hair fall off of the napkin. It fell onto the table. I put it back on the napkin. She again tried to dump it off of the napkin. If the woman would've just apologized and replaced the meal all would've been well. But it was clear that this was not going to happen. Not wanting to create a spectacle; I stood, paid my bill, and left the untouched food on the table. read more
