I love this place! I do not like waiting in line for a long time before I can get my food. It is good enough to get Very crowded, thus 4 stars, not 5. But if you have time, it is worth the wait!! If you are not familiar: take 2 bowls, use one for meat and noodles, and the other for veggies and a little more noodles (if you like noodles, which I obviously do). Use at Least 5 scoops of sauce in each bowl or it will be bland. They will mix the bowls together on the grill, so you are not getting 2 separate dishes. I use a lot of curry, and then add garlic, some hot oil, and some house sauce. I use 6 scoops in each, and it is flavorful. The meat is well cooked, and the veggies are still crisp. I just finished mopping up my meal from the bathroom floor and decided to write a little review. I've been to good Mongolian BBQ places before, and when I entered this place, I was not impressed. I was told to avoid it by some friends, but well, figured it couldn't be *too* bad. The one thing I noticed was that they cooked the meal pretty quickly compared to where I usually go. I didn't think too much of it, but I wish I had said something earlier. Could have gotten some sleep. I felt sort of "off" most of the night, not too bad but not normal. I went to bed and woke up only a few hours later with a nasty case of food poisoning. I won't get into the details. You get the idea. I can't stress enough how much I'd recommend people avoid this place. I'll never go back, and I'll do what I can to save other people from a night like I just had. read more

I wanted to try and check out a Mongolian BBQ place since it was a big thing in Boise, ID. The main negative point was the thick, very cold and hard noodles. I heard the same thing for another Mongolian place on El-Camino too. The Mongo BBQ places in Boise would have softer and thinner noodles which made it better. The sauces didn't live up to the expectation and price of 11 dollars is maybe steep for a Mongo BBQ place. The only saving grace is the spring roll in the beginning, eat as much as you can and the free ice-cream at the end. But if you are health conscious then it doesn't count much. read more

This place is simply AMAZING. I come here once a week and when i don't i have withdrawals. I've introduced my friends and family to this place and they all LOVE it. My mom and her friends come here for their once a month lunches. The food is super especially with their sauces. At first i tried a mix of different sauces and i couldn't get the taste right so i think mixing it up with the right sauces makes all the difference. I love hot and spicy so i followed their sauce combination recommendation that's on the wall behind the sauces as your pour. My favorite mix if you like it tangy and spicy is the following: 3 scoops of their house sauce 2 scoops of garlic sauce 1 scoop spicy vegetable oil half scoop red chilli sauce This is the perfect mix. They have it on the wall too for reference. The service is great in general. They recognize us and know when to get our soup out and our drink orders. The smallest things in service make all the difference and these guys get it right every time. And at the very end their ice cream cones are the best! read more

This restaurant allows you to completely customize your entree. You walk through and load up one or two bowls with the raw ingredients of your choice. It is then cooked at the massive grill in the front. Voila, dinner. The ambience is pretty meh. You go here for a quick and easy meal, not elegance. Getting a late meal, I was very disappointed by the complete disregard for occupant comfort. I was only halfway through my meal when they started the nightly clean up. The smell of PineSol (or whatever ammonia-laced product it was) started wafting all over the dining area. It made me nauseous... thereby ruining the dining experience and bringing it to an abrupt halt as I fled the foul air. I have never been so disappointed with a meal in my life. You have an option for 4 meats and 6 veggies and a few sauces. Nothing like a real BDs Mongolian BBQ. The meat was frozen. The vegetables must have been a few days old. The cook cooked my meal in literally 15 seconds so a few pieces of meat meat were stone cold while the veggies were fully warm. Great Mongolian BBQ AYCE place. Exactly what I wanted and for a decent price. They even accomodated our group of 12 people who stayed there for a very long time chatting. Some of my family had their first experience of Mongolian BBQ and got too much and they even gave them take out boxes. I'm giving 5 stars because of that. To me, most places taste similar because you season it yourself so don't expect anything to be extra good. This was my first experience at a Mongolian BBQ place besides the ones at the mall. You stand in a long line to grab 2 bowls. You fill one bowl with meat, the other with toppings. WARNING: you will run out of space in the toppings bowl, so I overloaded it in the meat bowl. You will also lose 1/4 of your toppings when they throw it on the grill. Mine all fell on the floor and I wished I had added more to my bowl. You pick sauces, the garlic and house sauce are the best, with a little chili oil - FTW. They grill it up, you eat it. Parking is terrible, the place is pretty teeny tiny, but it's oh so delicious. Also - complimentary soft serve ice cream when you're already massively full! read more

Gristly meat, slow service, etc. There are so many *other* great places to eat within 4 blocks I don't see why anybody would come back to this place a 2nd time. Think of those Mongolian BBQ places you find at the mall's food court (Great Khan's) and this restaurant is exactly like that. The difference is that it's all you can eat ($10), you get rice & soup, egg rolls, and soft serve ice cream! It wasn't too bad...they have a lot of different sauce that you can pick and choose/ try each time you get your next plate! I saw one white lady who got one scoop of EACH flavor (i.e. garlic, terriyaki, sweet and sour, etc etc.) @)_@ i thought she didn't know what she was doing since well, you know. I'm going to have to disagree with Vicky completely. You really have to have been a big fan of Colonel Lee's beforehand in order to realize AND appreciate just how greatly this Mongolian BBQ place has improved. First of all, this is a family owned restaurant. And I've been a devoted customer since I was a freshman in high school! That was almost 10 years ago! When I lived in Nor Cal, this was "the place" to go if you craved some Mongolian BBQ. And way back then, it was a dirty, little, hole-in-the-wall place with fantastic service, a devoted cook, and the cheapest prices around for all-you-can-eat. Thankfully, this place HAS changed. And all for the better. It's new clean decor and welcoming curb appeal have tripled the amount of customers Colonel Lee's used to have. And yet, after all the money that the family spent sprucing the place up, the prices are still the same as they were 10 years ago! The service just as friendly. The food just as delicious and plentiful. Loyal customers have sacrificed nothing for the mass amount of improvements displayed by New Mongolian. For $10 at dinner, you get unlimited bread, rice, soup, egg rolls, ice cream cones, and yes, Mongolian BBQ. They don't charge you extra for more noodles or for more meat. The sauces are potent and not watered down. It has some of the friendliest and fastest service around. Not to mention how devoted the cook behind the iron griddle is. The cooking surface heats up to close to 700 degrees. That man dips his hands in cool water and soothes them with wet cloths, just so your meal is piping hot. He is hardcore about his commitment and needs more appreciation. THAT IS WHY HE DESERVES TO BE TIPPED. Never have I encountered a better, cheaper Mongolian BBQ place. I have been so spoiled by the service, prices, and food of Colonel Lee's, and now New Mongolian, that in my home of So Cal, I have yet to find a similar establishment that leaves me fully happy and satisfied. I've been to Mongolian BBQ many times over the years (decades!). In my earlier years, I could eat three (maybe 4!) bowls. Nowdays, I can eat only two. The hard part is making it taste great. They have an array of sauces, and suggest a few recipes, but they're all bland. I try to find a tasty combination of sauces to make it taste great, but always get close before I get too full to try another time. This time the cook insisted on putting the sweet sauce on mine, while I was trying for a spicy lamb. Yuck. What a waste of a bowl of food. Great meat selection with beef, lamb, chicken, and pork. They have standard veggies too -- lettuce, cabbage, carrots, broccoli... etc. The food was grilled well, and it's useful that they have a list of suggested sauces to combine together. There are a TON of sauce choices! When I sat down and took my first bites, I was a little disappointed, because it was kind of bland. I had poured on a ladle full of bbq sauce and a ladle of garlic sauce, but I could barely taste the sauces. I think it's because the grillers pour on a generous amount of water to cook the food and it sort of dilutes the sauces. So on my second round i went ham on the sauces, and it tasted much better. The price is decent for All you can eat. However, i was put off by all the flies buzzing around the food since they keep the front door wide open. The complimentary soup is actually pretty good and I enjoyed the eggrolls a lot--very crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside with tasty filling. Soft serve vanilla ice cream is a plus, but the cones were kind of stale.... gross. The noodle itself wasn't all that special and if you gave me a bowl of Great Khan's and a bowl from here, mixed them up and told me to eat both, I don't think I'd be able to tell which was which. So, while it's not BAD, the quality isn't a huge step up from shopping mall food court quality. I happened to come here at 3pm on a weekend so there were barely any people. My husband and our friend enjoyed dinner tonight at New Mongolian BBQ tonight. This was our first visit. We enjoyed a wonderful meal sitting outside on the patio. Hmmm.... I guess I should follow up the last review of this place. $10 All you can eat Mongolian? AWWWW.... WTFeeezy?! Okay so I came here recently before I headed out to the fireworks show near the Shoreline Amphitheater. It sounded yummy at a first glance, then when you start to think about, it's not really worth it when it's busy. They seem like they can't keep up. You basically gather your ingredients for them to cook up... right? The only thing is... there was only ONE cook. I mean, I've been to other all-you-can-eat places where they've had a Mongolian BBQ station, but at least you had other choices of food that was already cooked. But at this place, you have no choice. You have to get your freeze dried meats, veggies and sauces all together and WAIT. It seemed like when the line was long... it took 10-15 minutes before you got to the only cook and you're hesitant to go back cause there's so many people. All you can eat? Yes... Fast? Nope. Can they really handle a big crowd? Not too well. And it's definitely not a flat all-you-can-eat fee either. They do charge extra for the drinks. And the egg rolls (that were actually pre-cooked) seemed like 95% fried egg roll wrapper with some mystery stuff inside. This is a very cheap "all you can eat" place - you take some meat (pork, chicken, beef), some vegetables, some noodles, some egg rolls etc, and a guy fries that for you - it takes a couple of minutes total. If it's not enough, just repeat the process. Tip: take TWO dishes - one for meat, one for noodles and veggies (+ a plate for egg rolls). Meat greatly decreases in size when fried, so a full dish becomes just enough. This is of course not gourmet food - it's not meant to be; it's simple, delicious and nutritious. It's just PERFECT if you're hungry or just like to eat a lot (which I do). You're definitely NOT going to leave this place hungry. Also, "all you can eat" includes (unflavored) ice-cream. Lunch all you can eat - comes with soup and bowl of rice. You can get soft-serve for dessert and eggrolls as appetizer (all of this included). Ambience is a little cramped, and the food serving area is a bit cramped too. Food here is really what you make of it - put in the proper ingredients (different meats/vegetables/sauces and oils/spices that you want) and they stir-fry it right in front of you. Delish! I love New Mongolian BBQ and really enjoy visiting it when I am in town. The price is great, especially as it is all you can eat. It's fun to mix and match meats, veggies, and sauces to come up with a perfect (and sometimes bizarre) concoction. Sometimes the line is pretty long, but it's well worth the wait - especially if you munch on spring rolls while in line. They also have a soft serve ice cream dispenser that I refuse to miss, no matter how full I am at the end of the night. Would definitely recommend for a fun evening out! Come hungry ;) read more

Eh. Typical all you can eat Mongolian BBQ place - you pick the meat and veggies, put them in a bowl, put some sauce on, give it to the guy to cook on a round stovetop. It definitely is more fun to make than eat cause the resulting meal is typically just OK edible. If you don't eat 2-3 servings, then you feel (and have gotten) ripped off. A friend of mine first introduced me to this place as one of his favorite places in downtown Mountain View. (We ended up eating somewhere else, but that's neither here nor there.) I came with a co-worker who had never tried Mongolian BBQ, a style of BBQ where you pile a bunch of uncooked meats and veggies into a bowl and it's cooked with different sauces on a big round grill. Stepping inside, there's ample seating and on the left side of the restaurant, that's where you get your bowl and start piling stuff into it. You start at the frozen slices of meats, then go onto veggies (I love adding bean sprouts and mushrooms but really you can't go wrong), some noodles, and a healthy dollop of different sauces. There's a poster behind the sauce area for suggestions. I went heavier on the more flavorful sauces (such as garlic, or the spicy one) and went lighter on the saltier sauces, and the combo turned out quite nicely. Flavorful with some heat. There's also complimentary eggrolls and soft serve ice cream! The eggrolls were pretty good - nicely crispy and not too oily - but the soft serve was meh. Prices are different for lunches vs. dinners, obviously, but also weekdays vs. weekends. Apparently Mongolian BBQ actually originated from Taiwan (source: Wikipedia). Huh, who knew? read more

Truly the most disappointing experience today! We traveled all the way from Morgan Hill for our Mongolian bbq fix only to discover the young man at the bbq grill was "boiling" our bbq!! All the flavors custom mixed by me became nothing more than a trace of soupy taste!The guy doused my food with three cups of water! What self respecting Mongolian bbq chef would do this?! Clearly not an expert! When i asked him why he's using so much water he just chuckled and responded with,"so that the grill doesn't burn!" What an idiot! That's what Mongolian bbq is supposed to be! Date night! No wait for a 7ish dinner on a Friday night. It's like a Chinese buffet type atmosphere and you go to the line and help yourself to noodles, different meats and veggies. They take your bowl and stir fry it quickly and you can go back as many times as you want which was great for the boyfriend. Just time the refills right as the line can build up at times. They BFF and I came here for some Friday night grub. If you have ever seen the place in the food court with a big skillet thing and some guy moving food (a.k.a. cooking) back in forth then you have basically seen New Mongolian BBQ. EXCEPT! EXCEPT! EXCEPT, New Mongolian BBQ is the All-You-Can-Eat version of it. AWESOME! Just walking downtown, you can smell the tastiness. I believe it's around $10 per person. I am not really sure, I have terrible memory. However, it's a pretty good price since it's All-You-Can-Eat! They also have egg rolls and ice creams! So save room. It's a pretty cool experience, so if you're looking for something to eat in Downtown Mountain View - swing by. Bring an empty stomach and don't forget to save room for soft ice cream. read more
