The New Queen Barbecue Restaurant offers homestyle local breakfasts and hearty local-style plate lunches of many choices. The popular breakfast combo includes bacon, spam, link sausages, Portuguese sausages, eggs and rice. The lunch plates include shrimp entrees, loco moco, beef curry or stew, hamburger steak, kalbi, pork adobo, pork chops, roast pork, kalbi, BBQ chicken, chicken katsu, shoyu chicken, orange chicken, mochiko chicken, noodles, burgers, sandwiches. The Chinese family-run restaurant offers a few Chinese dishes: gau gee, cold ginger chicken, Chinese chicken salad. There's an upcharge to sub for brown rice or fries. Owned by the Liao family, its current restaurant name was given around 2013 to differentiate another similarly-named restaurant, Queen's Chinese Restaurant, that was not affiliated to them. I've had the following: * BBQ Chicken. The chicken is juicy, tender, and flavorful. I love the charred marks which have a nice grilled flavor! * Curry/beef stew. The curries/stews have big chunks of tender beef, potatoes, and carrots that are very flavorful! The mini plates are plentiful, and the regular plates can be used for several meals! Prices are inexpensive for the generous amounts of food that you get. Staff is efficient and quick to place your order. All food is made to order to ensure that they are fresh and served hot, while waiting time average about 10 minutes or less. The restaurant interior is clean and has a few tables should you wish to eat there; however, the small interior gets busy with customers placing orders, as most orders are takeout. The walls are adorned with colorful photos of food items and menu descriptions. Hours of operation are Mon to Fri 5:00a to 2:30p, Sat 5:30a to 2:00p, Sun closed. This is one of the few restaurants that open at 5:00a that is geared toward construction and other workers in the industrial vicinity. Located at the corner of Queen and Cooke streets and next to the former Tsukenjo's Restaurant, there is no parking other than limited metered street parking. There is a loading zone around the corner that customers have used for pick-up of their orders. It's best to phone in your orders for fast pickup. If driving, if helps to have a passenger run in to pick up your order. With its extensive menu, this is a great place for last-minute meals if you're undecided as to what to eat. With the reasonable cost for delicious and generous breakfast or lunch, I'm certain that I'll be back to try other menu items. Support local!

Although we live in the Kaka'ako neighborhood and have frequently passed by the New Queen Barbeque, we've never wandered in to try it, even though there have been lines of hungry diners out the door. However, we have eaten at the other three restaurants (Yakiniku Sizzle, Niu Baguette BBQ & Noodle Soup, and Phuket Thai) within the same building complex. We've often seen lines of customers out the door and their crowded dine-in area during breakfast and lunch hours. Since I've been "holed up" this past month because I'm recovering from knee replacement surgery, I've been catching up on reading e-mails, magazine articles, and keeping up with local and international events. While reading a newsletter from Frolic Hawai'i and HONOLULU Magazine, my eyes were drawn to an article featuring their writers' favorite fried chicken finds. Of course, I quickly shared this article with my deep-fried food-loving husband, who picked New Queen Barbeque to try their Mochiko Chicken Plate. If you're lucky, you might score metered street parking along Cooke or Kawaiaha'o streets because this corner business caters to walk-in traffic or quick pre-order pick-up. Since this café is within our neighborhood, my husband and I chose to walk over. However, although I'm still within a month of TKA surgical recovery, my walking distance has been limited to 5-7 minutes every hour. I forged along with my husband, even though it took longer than 10 minutes one-way to cover the distance than usual. Once inside the café, I quickly scanned the menu and ordered the mini-garlic shrimp plate since my husband had his mind set on the mini Mochiko chicken plate. We waited a few minutes in the air-conditioned eating area while this business prepared our meals to order. We were surprised by the wrist-bending heft and regular-sized takeout packaging when we picked up our mini lunch plates. Each mini lunch plate ($11.45) had a scoop of steamed white rice, macaroni salad, and fresh shredded cabbage. The aromatic garlic shrimp plate with six perfectly cooked, lightly battered, shell-on shrimp topped with a butter sauce with copious amounts of lightly sautéed chopped garlic and scallions. My husband's crisp, fried yet moist and flavorful mochiko chicken plate was loaded as the takeout container cover seemed to pop open. Both of us were happy with the generous portions, flavors, well-executed preparations, and value of our lunch plates. We plan to return for more and appreciate the New Queen Barbeque's popularity.

I needed lunch before heading over the Pali. I had read about New Queen somewhere, but I couldn't remember where. Street parking with meters, but honestly, does anyone even check them? I put in a few quarters, just in case. Friendly hello when I walked in. It took me a while to look over the menu and people started coming in so I had to hurry. Went with the BBQ mixed plate...kalbi, teri beef, and teri chicken. Lots of people coming in and getting food to go. Must be good! And it was! The kalbi was a little fatty, but the meat was tender. The teri beef and chicken did not disappoint. Great mac salad! At one point, I think the workers were arguing, but it was funny. Great place to come to. Reasonably priced in these trouble times. Definitely worth considering! Mahalo Queen!

Quick and easy place to grab food. Not as cheap as it once was. Little disappointed that you cannot substitute lup chong in the breakfast combos but other meat substitutions are okay.

Very convenient place to pick up breakfast for work gatherings! They open at 5am and the breakfast combo for 9$ (2 bacon, 2 eggs, rice, 2 sausage, 2 portugese sausage and spam) great deal and will leave even large guys full! Easy to work with and efficient!

Such a great deal for breakfast! Local deluxe is the way. Luncheon meat is always a winner. Cash or card.

No real parking, but you can try to park on cooke street, Real local plate lunch place - come for the value with decent taste, follow the construction workers they know. Would come more with parking, otherwise a decent plate lunch, but if you live nearby, definitely worth it. Breakfast special value great.

Happy 4th of July! Mom and I picked up breakfast from New Queen BBQ this morning. My mom got the mini breakfast bento My mom asked is this really a mini It was plentiful White rice scrambled eggs and lots of crispy bacon which she loved I got the breakfast combo I ordered mine with fried rice It came with bacon, Portuguese sausage, spam and sausage links Oh and I almost forgot about the scrambled eggs I loved the fried rice it was tasty and not bland We're both happy with what we got Parking is on the street and since it's a holiday lots of spots available Prices are reasonable for the amount of food that you get Mom said 5 stars and I agree

New Queens has to be the top list for lunch spots in town. Food is very good and very affordable, with food cost going up all the time. Very very good service, for me it's a must phone in order for takeout they can get very busy. Very clean inside and nice set up for dine in , tables are always clean

Bbq mix plate is the amazing The best local mix around Fill ya up good.. Quick and easy

Mini Garlic Chicken

Influenced by social media , today we tried 3 mini plates so we could try 3 different items. It worked out perfectly. Ended up with 3 scoops rice and 3 Mac salads and lots of protein. Ended up with leftover Mac and just a lil garlic chicken. If I were you and you like 2 scoops of rice just order one mini all rice. I did not think that far ahead. Hamburger steak was delicious. It did not disappoint. I believe it was homemade patties and old school scratch gravy. Fried chicken was nice and crispy. It wasn't your regular home style fried chicken it had a slight Chinese seasoning but not overwhelming. Yummy Garlic chicken this was ok but if you like it on the sweeter side, this is not for you. Portions were good and Mac salad was average. Highly recommend. Will return for more hamburger steak for sure.

Breakfast in Honolulu, Hawaii... My Aunty Nohea was wondering about the location of my niece's Graduation party. I told her that I could take her there and show her exactly where to park! After our trial run and site inspection, she offered to treat me to breakfast. I used my Yelp app and searched for a restaurant nearby. I suggested New Queen Barbeque. Aunty Nohea knew exactly where it was because she used to work in the area! Yay! We found free street parking around the corner on Kawaiha'o Street and we walked down the block. New Queen Barbeque is located on the corner of Queen Street and Cooke Street. It was a clean, bright, straightforward, order, pay, and pick-up at the counter type of place. There are five tables for dining in, but most customers did takeout. The door was left open, so, the air conditioning is just average. I ordered the regular (not mini) Hamburger Steak. It came with a light brown gravy, potato salad, and two scoops of rice. The potato salad was not memorable and the Hamburger was just okay. The gravy helped me eat more rice. I was hungry and it filled me up. This was a thoughtful meal from my Aunty and I'm grateful for her kindness! I'd return if I could find free street parking again!

My wife saw a post from Nadine C. She had mentioned the hamburger steak. That's one of my wife's favorite dishes. Willing to try someplace new, we went there for lunch. I got lucky and got a parking space near the restaurant. It was busy with a lot of takeout orders. The service was fast and friendly. They have a few tables for dine in. The dine in area is spacious and clean. Debbie ordered the mini hamburger steak and a mini bbq short ribs for me. I got to try her hamburger steak. The hamburger was homemade, but a little dry. It was the gravy that made the dish. My short ribs had a good flavor, and the char was perfect. Of the two pieces of meat, one was tender and the other not so tender. While waiting for our food, I noticed the people were ordering the fried chicken. Will be back to try it. Enjoy.

Baby ate some but was not really thrilled about it. I loved it. - Scallop and Mushroom Risotto - YUM. Delish. Baby liked it too. So much leftovers of everything. Realized when we ate it for leftovers it was all pretty oily and needed a pinch of salt. But otherwise great. Staff really nice and helpful. Love that the place is spread out and open. Bathrooms are not assigned which I'm sure can get gross, but is great to not have to wait for just the women's. There is a big stall which was perf since baby is potty training and had to go #1 and #2! Only thing missing was a hook to hang my purse and her bag. Great dinner...but if anyone is listening...bring back the shrimp and grits!!!

We came around 4PM and were surprised it was almost empty (but slowly it did get busier). Our food came with complimentary bread with guava sauce. It was really good! The bread is toasted, crispy, and buttery. Everyone in my party enjoyed it. We did not expect our food items to come in really large portions. I loved the chicken karaage! The batter was light and crispy with great flavors and had a yummy sauce drizzled on top. It also came with a scoop of rice, buttered corn, and Mac salad. Mac salad was delicious! Prime rib sandwich came with salad and au jus sauce and a side of salad. It's good but also very filling. I didn't try the burger or teriyaki chicken but was told both were delicious. After dinner, we ordered a few items from the bakery to eat on the plane. You have to take a number and wait for them to call it. I got 2 kouign Amannn, 2 Dubai coco puff, and half dozen green tea puff. The kouign amann is a circular croissant. I liked that it was soft and flaky and had a sweet, crispy glaze over it. The Dubai coco puff had a strong pistachio crunchy flavor but I thought it was way too sweet for me personally. The Star of the show are the green tea cream puffs! I would come back to just order that! The top filling tasted like a thick creamy brown butter green tea-flavored icing. The filling inside doesn't taste like brown butter and less thick but still really good. Overall, they had really good food and items from the bakery. Highly recommend the infamous green tea cream and chicken karaage dish! Customer service was quick and professional though I felt like our server wasn't that friendly lol. The restaurant was very clean and had plenty of seating.
