The guy who took our order was friendly, answered all our questions and helped us. Eveything on the menu was enticing but I tried scallops. I think their prices are fair. Besides absolutely great fish and chips (and always a wide choice of fresh varieties) Newmans is the best choice for grilled seafood. Take out or eat in at this simple no frills Eugene highlight. The salmon is outrageously terrific as is the halibut and cod. Next time I will go for an oyster po boy. The fries are wonderful but today I decided to be healthier. Another great visit! Ordering is quick and easy. Menu is displayed well. Lots of delicious options and specials offered. Fish always tastes fresh and flavorful. Very cozy and open spread out seating inside. Endless options of fish, seafood, cheese, oils, seasoning, pasta, wine, bread.. you name it they have it here for your pairing needs. This was my first time to Newman's with the recommendation of both our van driver and a coworker who resides in Eugene. It will not be my last for certain. Both said Newmans had the best fish and chips. I decided before I went I was getting the Halibut and chips because it's something I always got in Anchorage and missed. Upon arriving I saw they had Halibut cheeks and chips as one of their specials. Cheeks are usually a local secret. Found them once in a restaurant in Anchorage. The man taking orders said they had some Cajun spice in the coating which completely sold me on getting them. Boy they did not disappoint! They were crispy, hot (temperature not spice) and delicious to the last bite along with the fries. I also ordered the Sweet Chili Shrimp salad, intending to eat it latter. After one bit to try it I couldn't stop. It's a blend of purple and green cabbage slaw with tiny bay shrimp and a sweet chili sauce on top. Very causal dining here, place your order at the window, eat in a covered open outdoor area. In the 20min I was there a man came out to empty the trash and wiped dirty tables and the counter against the wall. Stopped over here on the way through town. I was suprised at how inexpensive things were until I got my food. The portions were small, but pretty appropriate to the price. The fries were cooked to a golden brown. The fried fish had a panko-like coating. The clam chowder tasted simple, and was pretty thin to be called a chowder. It also would've benefited from more seasoning and more richness. All in all, it was an acceptable meal, but I don't think I'd choose to stop here again. We were in Eugene for a doctors appointment and we came here because of the Rating. We were expecting a great seafood lunch and we got the opposite! Our Halibut basket was served to us and our first bite was into the halibut and it was so dry It was totally overcooked! The small store had a few inside seating bar stools along a wall, and it wasn't clean. The seating is outside and all the tables were dirty. We had expected a great lunch and got a subpar meal. What a gem in Eugene! Newman's is a seafood shop/market that also sells food. There's a window on the side of the shop where you order your meal and plenty of seating outdoors and indoors. I ordered a 3 piece fish and chips with cod and this was chef's kiss. The fish was so tender and so lightly breaded, it was perfect. I was very surprised to hear of such a great restaurant that served only seafood in Eugene, Oregon. A couple of my friends told me about the place and it did not disappoint. The po'boy was made perfectly with just the right amount of sauce to bring out the flavors in the fried oyster. The fried salmon is a classic done well, and their house made tartar sauce is a great option for pairing. I highly recommend this place if you want seafood classics done the right way. The line to take orders does span out into the parking lot a bit so just be aware. We ordered rockfish w/coleslaw ($11) and salmon w/fries ($13+). Both fish were lightly breaded and crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. The pieces of salmon were slightly bigger than those of the rockfish. The coleslaw was tangy and decently portioned. Fries were nice and crispy. They provide plenty of tartar sauce and some lemon wedges too. Each item was nicely packaged in parchment paper and kept everything separate but warm (respectively). If in the area, we would happily eat here again. read more

A quick walk from where I live and the best fish and chips in town by far. The best fried fish in town and just incredibly fresh. You can really taste and tell the difference and it's quality too but they also give amazing quality. Not just drenched in oil either which is such a relief and very nice people that will get you your food quick! This place is an old Eugene gem and has been in Eugene since 1890! I love that the walk up window is so convenient and fast. We love coming here in the summertime, but we popped in last night and it reminded me to give them a mention. Their fish 'n chips are really good and they keep their prices surprisingly low: $11 for cod and $13 for salmon. The salmon is my favorite and both options include fries and sauces. Their portions are filling , but if you wanted, you could add another piece of cod for $3, salmon for $3.75...or cole slaw for $2.25! There are many other options, too: shrimp Louie, clam chowder, grilled halibut or salmon, coconut shrimp, rockfish and sandwiches with any of the above! The only downside is that there isn't really a vibe, ambiance or atmosphere to speak of, (seating outside next to a parking lot), but if you're hankering for some fresh fish 'n chips to go, this is your place! read more
