I genuinely really enjoyed my lunch here. For reference, Com Tam Thuan Kieu used to exist here. With the new restaurant, the space got a glow up and honestly, the finishes are so nice. They specialize in mostly Northern cuisine (so trendy). My sister and I started with an order of bánh mì que ($10.55 for 3 pcs). The mini baguettes are filled with pate and topped with pork floss. I didn't love the version here. I found the baguette to be too soft and the pate was slathered in excess. Yikes. Not to my liking. For entrees, we shared the following: -thịt heo cuốn bánh tráng mắm nêm ($19.55) -bún chả Hà Nội ($17.55) Their version of bún chả Hà Nội is quite good. There's good flavoring in the sauce. The meat is nicely charred and they give you plenty of hamburger patties. This is one of the better renditions I've had in a while, To be honest, I've only ever eaten thịt heo cuốn bánh tráng mắm nêm at my mama's house, so this was an absolute treat. The platter comes with pork belly, veggies, vermicelli, slivers of pineapple, and bi (shredded pork skin). They clearly took notes from the motherland because I've only encountered fresh pieces of pineapple in Vietnam. The inclusion of pineapple is shockingly good. It helps cut the saltiness if the mắm. And while people tend to include pineapple pieces in the mắm nêm, I like thatthey went to the direct source and give you fresh pineapple. Refreshing and perfect to the spring roll. I can see why this place is not for everyone - prices are a bit high and some of the dishes are new new so there's no baseline to compare it to. I, on the other hand, had a really good dining experience here. Highly recommend checking this spot out. It's spacious enough to host large groups as well.
Me and my husband saw this place pop up on Instagram and then we checked on YELP to make sure it had good ratings!!! We were in the area so we decided to have lunch here... We were ALSO one of the first customers in the restaurant today. I was really excited to try a dish I saw on Yelp called "Bahn Cuon thit nuong" but sadly they said they didn't have it. So maybe they should take off that picture? It's like their front cover picture... CRAB MEAT EGG ROLLS: 10/10 Be careful! It's so hot it burnt my tongue. The texture was really nice and crunchy and the filling was good... PHO: 9/10 It was pretty good. The broth was on the sweet side AND they DON'T HAVE JALAPEÑOS!!!??? FISH & VERMICELLI DISH: 7/10 presentation was beautiful! Looks like beauty was only on the outside for this dish. The fish was extremely dry and kind of cold. The sauce is very watery and on the sour side as well... SERVICE: B- There were friendly but, we had to flag them down for everything we needed like jalapeno, Togo boxes, ordering additional items, plates, etc. Also, you have to pay at the cashier... AMBIANCE: Beautiful, spacious and modern interior... SEE YOU LATER NGON!!!
Ordered their Pho Bo Hanoi - Output time - 5 minutes for main. 1.5 minutes for beverages to arrive. Proteins - Mainly consisted of rare steak fatty brisket. Broth 3.5/5 Portions- Fair amount of meat. The person in charge of slicing the flanks needs to cut the pieces into smaller flaps. The flank flaps were large and are a choking hazard. Value - pretty pricey while having little to none customization. Temperature- The rare steak was tender however the broth was still not hot enough to cook the beef all the way through which some pieces were discarded at the end of the meal. Freshness 5/5 Basils were Not a speck or hint of spoilage. Overall the Pho here is mix of (Pho Thin Franchise) and slight resemblance of home made pho style. Decor - is modern and gives off Vegas vibes settings. Parking is ample so be prepared to find residential Spots.
I remember going back to Vietnam and trying a place called Ngon. It was so impressive and thought this was the same concept, but it unfortunately wasn't. I saw they had some Bun Cha Ha Noi, so decided to give it a try anyway. We ended up going with the entire family. Upon arriving, we noticed that there was very limited parking in front of the restaurant. We had to park across the street and walk over. When we walked in, they let us know that it would be a 5-10 minute wait for a table for 6. We ended up waiting probably 15 or more minutes, but they were kind and apologized for the wait. We ended up ordering the following: Pho: Surprisingly, this was pretty good! I liked how the broth was not too fatty and like how they served it with fresh thick noodle instead of the default skinny noodle. The broth was flavorful, but I wish they would allow us to switch up the meat options. Bun Cha Ha Noi: This was good! I liked the sauce that it came in and the meat itself was not as fatty as I have seen it at other places. The veggie and bun portion was good for the amount of meat that they give you. I think this was worth the price. Crab Spring Rolls: These were meaty and crispy. We ended up getting the whole plate instead of just the appetizer since it seemed like a better deal. Although these were good, I kind of got flavor fatigue and was not able to eat more than just 1 roll. Banh Mi Que: This dish comes with 3 banh mi que and it was honestly pricey for what you get. The banh mi was a bit burnt and the pate and cha bong portion was lacking. Although it met the banh mi que craving, I would not get it again. Overall, this place was good. I wouldn't say I am dying to return and have the good again, but it was nice and clean. The only thing I would have to complain about is the overall smell in the restaurant. It smelled like dirty mop water or like an overhwhelming scent of vinegar if they are using that as a cleaning product. The staff was not very attentive and we were struggling to call them over several times during the meal. If you pay in cash, you do get a discount!
We ordered Bun cha Hanoi and Mien cua tron. The Bun cha was excellent, the grilled meats came out in the usual nuoc mam pha but it was warm! What a great idea. The taste was on point, the edges of the meat still retained bits of crispiness. The mien cua tron was enjoyable although don't expect lumps of crab. The broth had a deep earthiness to it. It lacked the brightness of herbs which I remedied by adding mint and basil from the Bun cha. The portions are generous. The space is airy and quite attractive. Plenty of parking.
The space is very clean and has good lighting. There's a lot of staff to help when it gets busy but we noticed it was a little hard to waive someone over when we wanted to order or ask for extra napkins etc. Our food came out before we got our water/drinks which was a little odd. The orange + carrot juice combo is really good. I can see why it's recommended and they squeeze it when you order. If you leave a Google review, any one drink is free! Bun Mang is too salty, even with added limes. There's too much MSG, and the duck was a little chewier than our preference, so we will stick to ordering this at other restaurants in OC. The Banh Mi Chao was really good. The bread is toasted to order, and came out hot. The flavors were great, but you don't notice the quality of the wagyu since it's doused in all the sauce. We would order this again! The Bun Cha was huge. As someone who eats a great amount, I left feeling satisfied, and it's quality food. I put it on par with the other restaurants in the area, but this portion size is bigger. The flavors are all there and my family would order this again.
On Sunday, my family and I went to Garden Grove to shop for Vietnamese items, then I yelped and located Ngon Restaurant. The place looks sleek and inviting, and we were seated soon away. We ordered the Bun Rieu (Vietnamese crab noodle soup), Pho Bo Ha Noi (Hanoi beef noodle soup), Bun Mang Vit (duck noodle soup with bamboo shoots), and the Combo, which includes Ca Kho Hoac Thit Kho Trung (braised fish/caramelized pork with egg), Canh Tom Mung Toi (Vietnamese spinach soup with shrimp), Dau Phu Tam Hanh (fried tofu with onions), Dua Cai Chua (pickled mustard greens), and Com Trang (steamed rice). When all of the food arrived at our table, the taste seemed odd, and we didn't particularly enjoy it... The combo set, in particular, does not appear to be worth $47.10 ($23.55 per person with a minimum of two persons), which is too pricey. The food was bland and the serving sizes were small; the Fried Tofu with Onions lacked flavor. We hadn't yet finished our food when I requested the waiter to bring us some to-go boxes to take home. The server just brought over a small to-go soup container. Hello!! We need more to-go boxes!! We all did not enjoy all the food, and the service was horrible. This spot is no longer on my list.
Stopped by on a Monday night and was pleasantly surprised by how spacious the restaurant was. The interior is modern and well-designed, and since it wasn't very busy, we were seated right away with no wait. Our food also came out pretty quickly, which I appreciated. That said, the menu felt a little limited, and the food itself didn't quite live up to expectations. We started with the crab meat spring rolls. They were nice and crispy, but I honestly couldn't taste much crab in the filling. I also ordered the dry crab red noodle mix, which ended up being the biggest disappointment of the meal. There wasn't much crab flavor at all. The noodles tasted very bland and felt slightly undercooked, almost like plain noodles with very little seasoning. There was a bit of liquid sitting at the bottom of the bowl, but it didn't add any noticeable flavor or help bring the dish together. Overall, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, fast service, and plenty of seating, but the food lacked the flavor I was hoping for. Unfortunately, the dishes we tried didn't leave much of an impression.
I've been in a phase of making my own Vietnamese food/rolls lately and was excited to try this place, but unfortunately left disappointed. We ordered these two below, and overall sauces were not good, veggie proportions for the meal was off, quality was lacking and inconsistent, meat was not great. Vermicelli with crab meat spring rolls (Bun Nem cua be)- saw crab meat and wanted to try it, but it tasted nothing like crab. The rolls themselves were hot and crispy, and enjoyable when fresh. The fish sauce on the side was lacking and could've had much more flavor if it was better. Pork wrapped in rice paper (Thit heo cuon banh thang mam nem)- Underwhelming. So little carrots and the pork slices were very thin and tasteless. Also it was interesting that it includes pineapple slices. The fermented sauce was not good at all. Viet Coffee was also not filled all the way, despite already having a lot of ice, and it was overly sweet. I added water just to balance it out a bit. The restaurant itself looks modern, clean, and nicely designed, but overall I wasn't impressed with the gimmicky presentation and the food didn't live up to expectations.
I came in craving a taste of a Vietnamese home cooked meal and was served exactly that! The combo set came with a variety of dishes you might see at grandma's house. Fried tofu was not super crispy, but on the light and airy side with a sweet and savory sauce. The braised pork (thit kho) had a deep caramelized sauce and tender meat, though the egg appeared to be deep fried and tough to eat with it's rubbery texture. It may have been in the pot a bit too long. Most comforting was the simple but warm spinach soup, clean but tasty. It was on the slightly more salty end but would be perfect with rice. To complement, there were pickled mustard greens and salted roasted peanuts. Some of these would be easy to make at home but a great value for a homey meal outside.
We originally wanted to try out this restaurant because we saw they had "Banh Cuon Thit Nuong", but unfortunately once we arrived, we saw they had changed the menu and it was just vermicelli noodles. Still, we were already there so we continued on with our meal. - PARKING - Small lot but easily found a spot. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Very updated, modernized feel inside. Lots of space, big booths and tables. After we ordered, the food came out erratically, like a bowl of Pho first, and at least 5-10 minutes until the next 2 dishes, and another 5 minutes until the next 2. It wasn't a huge deal but some of the party was left awkwardly waiting while everyone else started to eat. - FOOD - Bun Cha Ha Noi: This was the dish that replaced the Banh Cuon Thit Nuong, so I got this one instead. I felt like the portion size wasn't very big, especially for the price. The meat patties and slices were good, but the sauce itself was too salty. The veggies also tasted unwashed and gritty. I had some of my husband's Ca Kho and that was also on the sweeter side. - OVERALL - Not very impressed with the food, and will likely not come back.
Stopped by this second location and had a really solid meal overall for dinner with the family. There was cushion seating for groups, and we sat to order a dish for each of us. The crab egg rolls stood out right away, and you can actually taste the crab, not just filler, and they came out crispy and well balanced. My wife ordered the catfish, and that was another win. Fresh, soft, and full of flavor without being too rich. But all the dishes are a bit fancy for the price, so we were at least expecting more portions too. I went with the Hanoi pork bún, and the patties were the highlight. Nice flavor, good texture, and the fat oil wasn't overly a salty bomb. Don't forget to add the sliced pickled garlic here, as that garnishment really brought everything together. I do wish there was just a bit more meat in the bowl, but it still hit the spot. The space has a relaxed, slightly refined feel to it, making it a nice choice for a casual date night. The owner definitely spent some time to figure out the decor for a wooden calming feel for place someone might come back to!

Ambiance: My boyfriend and I went on Christmas Day, super packed but we were immediately seated since it was just the two of us. Interior is beautiful, although I noticed that some of the light bulbs had already needed to be changed since they were flickering right above us. Food: Servers were very friendly. However, it took very long for the food to come out. We get it, it's busy given Christmas Day, but they should know that and prepare going in. Everything was good, but the food portions were also very small, I left still feeling hungry. Service: We ordered 2 crab noodle soups, one for here and one for togo. We also ordered the pork wrapped in rice paper for here and one mam pho cuon togo. The server read our orders out loud and confirmed with us, everything was correct. Unfortunately, they also messed up our orders and made both the crab noodle soups togo and the mam pho cuon for here. Our togo orders came out before our actual meals this. Also, the table that was sat down after us got their food before us AND they ordered the same dish as us. We had to flag down several waiters/servers to fix this. One worker said "sorry about that, server who took your order doesn't have very good Vietnamese" got me dying LOL. Tried Ngon in Garden Grove, a new Hanoi style Vietnamese spot currently in soft opening. I love supporting local businesses, especially new ones in the area. Since it's still early, many items were sold out. We wanted the banh mi que and set menu but they were unavailable, so we ordered bun rieu oc, banh mi chao, nem cua be egg rolls, limeade, and corn milk. Food was okay overall, about a 3 out of 5. The meat was chewy, but the baguette was very fresh. The bun rieu oc wasn't my favorite since it leaned more toward a beef and pork stock rather than the crab tomato flavor I'm used to. The drinks were the highlight. The limeade was refreshing and the corn milk was very thick. Service was friendly and the interior was clean and modern. There's a 3% credit card service charge, and our meal came out to about $80 after tip. I'd be open to coming back once the full menu is available. read more

My excitement to try brand new restaurants is a bit dampened these days. Maybe I have to wait a bit for them to get things in order before checking them out. The interior is subtlety elegant but the atmosphere could be spoiled by loud dinners (we had some near our table). Our waiter was nice but the poor guy seemed to be the only one running the floor and also had no clear ideas of what's on the menu. Since we were short on time we only ordered three items. Banh mi que: decent but the taste profile was nowhere near the ones from Sen. I had to dip mine in Pho broth to make it better. Pho: very good in term of northern Vietnamese pho. This is one of the house specialties. Cá nướng cuốn: too bad we didn't get the chance to try it because after almost 40 minutes it was not there. When I came to the counter to pay they offered it for to go but I declined sine we had to leave. Overall this place has a lot of potential when they figure things out. I stopped by around 1 PM on a Sunday. The space is spacious and well-designed, and the staff were polite. It was busy, but the wait was short. That said, a few tables hadn't been cleared yet. The menu offers a good variety. I ordered Bun Rieu Oc Bo Dau and Bun Nem Cua Be. Presentation was generally good, though not consistent across all dishes. Portions were generous. Prices were reasonable. The food leaned bland, with flavors lacking depth. Note - They missed the tofu, but added it later. Still, I wonder why there was no tomato in the bun rieu?? Drove by this restaurant a few times already and finally decided to try. My husband and I tried bun cha Ha Noi and banh da cua hai phong and they were both delicious. I especially like the bun cha Ha Noi, the portion is big and it comes with lots of veggies. The restaurant is really nice and clean. The service is good and fast. I ordered the Wagyu steak because I was expecting a premium dining experience, but I was very disappointed. The steak was much tougher than I expected and didn't have the tenderness typically associated with Wagyu. The bread served with the meal was also very dry and tasted stale, as if it wasn't fresh. For the price, I expected much better quality. I hope you can look into this and improve the consistency of your food and service. read more

I feel the food is very authentic! The staff is friendly and it's a very clean look! Not sure when they opened but everything looks new. The beef stew with the baguette is amazing ! The meat was so soft and tender and the bread was nice and warm. My sister got the chicken wings with fish sauce with the sticky rice and I could lick a bowl of that sauce they use for the wings ! I usually go to the other Hanoi Group location, so this was my first time trying this one. The menu is very similar, but it feels like a step up from the regular bún đậu mắm tôm. They offer a few extra items here, and this location serves phở instead of bánh canh, which gives you a bit more variety. The restaurant itself is about three times bigger than the other location, and the restroom is noticeably more spacious as well. That said, I did mention to the staff that the restroom could use some improvements. There were no toilet seat covers and no paper towels available--only a hand dryer. It would be great to see a little more attention to restroom details, as cleanliness and convenience are basic expectations and really add to the overall dining experience. Overall, the space and expanded menu are definite positives, but improving restroom amenities would make the experience much better. read more

The restaurant is very nice inside and the waiter was great as well. We ordered the bun cha and banh mi que and shared between us two. The bun cha was delicious, the broth is very flavorful and they give you plenty of protein. The banh mi que had fresh pate and came out warm. There's peppers and pickled garlic at the table as well and it was a nice addition to our meal. The ca phe su da is really good, strong enough but balanced with the condensed milk. I got the jasmine green tea with mango jam which was super refreshing. Will definitely come back to try other dishes! read more

gorgeous interior!! very fast service too but i did come around 4 pm so before typical dinner rush. i got the banh mi chao wagyu and bun nem cua. i love the concept of banh mi chao but sadly the meat here wasn't as tender and on the chewy side. this dish is also quite greasy/oily. the bun nem cua which comes with bun noodles and crab eggrolls, i enjoyed this dish more since the unique eggroll wrapper! the menu is a bit small so not sure if id go again but still nice to try read more

Ngon is ngon. Serving Northern Vietnamese style dishes , this restaurant has the same owners as Hanoi corner , their new restaurant is clean, modern and stylish, the servers are quick and friendly and the food is fresh and delicious. I recommend the nem cua be ( egg rolls with rice paper) , the rice paper gives it a nice crunch. The banh mi chao w/ the tender ribeye , banh mi que - fresh thin French baguette w/ pate and pork floss. Haven't had anything on the menu yet that I haven't really liked. read more

I recently tried this Hanoi-style Vietnamese restaurant and overall the food was pretty good. The chả giò was especially delicious, crispy, flavorful, and probably my favorite dish there. Honestly, most of the dishes we ordered were solid and enjoyable. The downside for me was the dining environment. The space itself is actually quite large, but it feels cramped because there are just too many tables packed into the room. I'm not sure if that's actually the seating capacity they're allowed, but it definitely makes the place feel crowded and a bit uncomfortable. Another issue is the smell. The restaurant gets very smoky and the ventilation doesn't seem strong enough to pull the cooking smell out. After finishing the meal, I noticed my clothes smelled like barbecue, similar to when you leave a BBQ restaurant. I hope they can improve the ventilation and spacing a bit because the food itself is good. It would make the overall dining experience much more comfortable. read more

This newly opened restaurant features a stylish interior and specializes in northern Vietnamese cuisine. Service was good, and the decor is modern. The food was average. The grilled fish roll could be improved. It was soft, moist, but seemed reheated and served slightly above room temperature. If freshly grilled, it would have had a crispy crust and been very hot, which it was not. The flavor was acceptable, and portions were adequate. The sauce, a standard nuoc Cham with a few stems of dill, wasn't particularly remarkable. Would've been better to stick with the shrimp paste sauce. The northern-style egg roll was better crispy with a loose crab filling and plenty of fresh herbs and vegetables. Overall, the experience is alright. If there's no wait, it's worth trying. However, if there is a wait, parking is difficult, and it might not be worth the trouble, especially since other places like Sen serve similar dishes. read more

I don't usually give low ratings but this place was quite an experience. The ambiance is very nice but the food was not good at all. Bun Rieu did not even taste anywhere near what it's supposed to taste. The only thing I can say is the server was nice and attentive and food came out fast but it is not worth the visit. read more
