    Canh chua with catfish
    Cindy M.

We came here for lunch on a weekday with a large party, and we ordered 2 of the meal packages that came with 3 items and rice, which is $29.95. We also ordered a few dishes on the side. We ended up ordering the sour soup with catfish and sour soup with shrimp, catfish clay pot, Chinese broccoli w/oyster sauce, and veggie w/garlic sauce. The sour soup with catfish and shrimp were simple, but both solid in flavor. The fish and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The catfish clay pot was very flavorful, and as I would expect. The Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce and veggie with garlic sauce were cooked perfectly, and also tasted as expected. There was an abundance of white rice with the meal packages. We actually ended up taking it home. The salted fish fried rice was really good, in that it had crispy pieces (probably the salted fish), and had a bit of a char flavor that I generally like. At the end, they gave us all a little cold dessert that had grass jelly and basil seeds/chia seeds. Service was friendly. It was mostly an older gentleman, who was very kind and accommodating. Restaurant cleanliness was acceptable for a more hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Overall, it was a solid restaurant for Vietnamese homestyle cooking!

Lunch special $30 for 3 dishes to share. Enough for 2 to 3 people.

Vietnamese homestyle cooking with reasonable prices and authentic flavor in a casual sit down atmosphere. Tried this venue for lunch, on the recommendation of a friend when I was in the area on a weekday. Apparently this family-owned restaurant has been around for quite a long time, and is a staple in the San Jose Vietnamese community for atleast a generation. We ordered the 3 entree lunch special (family style meal) which is only $30. We got to choose a soup choice, meat entree, and vegetable entree. We opted for canh chua (hot/sweet and sour soup with fish), ca kho (stewed/braised fish in a savory caramel sauce), and sauteed seasonal veggies in garlic (we chose ong choy / water spinach / rau muong). It was a very satisfying and well seasoned meal. I liked the combination of 3 dishes. The food was comforting and felt like I was eating at a family member or friend's house. Service was friendly and prompt. There's atleast 10 tables that seat 4 people each inside. Will definitely return to try other dishes next time I am back in the San Jose area. Individual appetizers and entrees range from $10 and up. Located in a large outdoor shopping plaza with plenty of parking.

    Fried fish spring rolls

In-laws wanted to dine here for combined bday events. Made a resy for 1pm today. Didn't know it gets that busy. Enjoyed fried cat fish, fish hot pot, leafy garlic greens, fried rice and fried squid. Everything was tasty but left hungry still because we only ordered seafood. Service was fine. We've also ordered a whole fried fish a couple times before to make spring rolls at home. Overall , not bad but not somewhere I'd crave

Nha Trang is a well established Vietnamese restaurant in Lion Plaza in San José. Our family often gathered here when we want a meal with the cousins without breaking the bank. They are well known for the nem nướng that we roll ourselves, the sour soups ( canh chua ) with fish or with prawns, the clams with basil.... Too many good dishes to remember. Service is friendly and on point. Parking is plentiful since this is a trip mall, brightly lit at night. We ordered more than these 4 items but we were too busy eating and talking and forgot to take pictures!!!

    House special lobster

Yum! I was craving house special lobster and saw that people on yelp really liked the lobster here, so I had to check it out. The food: - house special lobster - lots of meat, very tender, and the sauce was sooooo good. My only wish is that the lobster was more crispy--a nice crisp + that delicious sauce would be mmm *chef's kiss* perfection. As of November 2025 MP for the lobster was $36.50/lb. - noodles - we also ordered egg noodles to go with the lobster (you need to order it separately). Overall yummy garlicky flavor and no complaints. - soft shell crab - my partner got this and thought it was ok. I thought the seasoning was good but again would have liked it to be more crisp. - free dessert - they were handing out free chè as a nice refreshment after our meal, which was a nice touch! The one today was a nice mix of grass jelly and chia seed Ambience: - traditional Vietnamese restaurant with mainly Vietnamese diners. Being able to speak Vietnamese was a plus for me when it came to ordering. Service: - Good. All the food came out so fast. Everyone was overall very nice. I like that this place accepts card instead of being cash only. Overall a solid experience! I'll probably explore other places next time I'm craving house special lobster, just because there are so many others to try and I am on the hunt for the **best** house special lobster in the South Bay, but this is definitely a memorable one! I would come back.

Came here on Saturday 9/6/25 for dinner with a party of 12. This is probably by far a good restaurant if you want a family style meal with the most authentic Vietnamese food. Every dish I ordered was so good!! Rau muống xào Shaking beef Nghiêu xào tàu xì Rice Mustard pickled greens Thai hot pot Garlic noodles with lobster Would definitely come back here for family style dinner!! Service was superb.

The ambience is nice, and most importantly they have AC for the summer! Food wise, it's hit and miss. No surprises in the dishes and the soup we ordered. This place is not bad for plan B if your plan A doesn't work out.

Best lobster dish ever!! Their sauce is savory and tangy, so good with a side of the garlic egg noodle. This place is our go to lobster dish! We always get their stir fried lobster. Their other dishes of shaking beef, the hot pot, fried calamari are all our top favorites too!

    Crab noodle soup (Bun rieu)

This is a really family friendly restaurant with authentic Vietnamese food. The server was outstanding. He was really nice and kind. They gave us a free kumquat drink and grass jelly and basil seed desserts. This was unexpected and wonderful. The food was delicious. We got crispy chow mein with combination meat and crab noodle soup. The restroom was clean and beautiful. I definitely recommend this place.

We had dinner here on a Friday evening. The place was busy shen we arrived but we were seated pretty quickly. Service was just okay but that's typical at most Asian restaurants. The soup was delicious, cat and pork claypot a bit salty for my liking. Gelatin dessert at the end was pretty good.

I get the jajangmyeon ($10.95 for a small) every time, mostly because the noodle texture is TOP TIER. The noodles are thick, chewy, and springy, and they pair really well with the jajang (black bean) sauce. There are also plenty of ingredients mixed into the sauce, although I find it a little salty sometimes. The tangsuyuk (sweet & sour pork, $15.95) is super crispy, and I really liked the tangy sauce with it. I personally prefer dipping the pieces in the sauce so they stay crispy, but you can also pour the sauce over if that's your preference! The restaurant can get pretty busy on weekend evenings, with waits usually around 10-30 minutes. There's plaza parking available nearby. Would definitely recommend if you like or want to try jajangmyeon!

The noodles for both dishes have a pleasantly chewy bounce to them. They are thick, satisfying, and cooked perfectly right. The Jajangmyeon's black bean sauce was savory with a touch of sweetness and contains peas, onions, and pork. The Jjamppong has a spicy seafood broth with squid, mussels, pork, and veggies. Every meal comes with pickled yellow radish on the side to help cut through the richness of the meal. Service is not what you come here for. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated and a part of that was because they skipped our name on the waitlist. They claimed they called it, but we were standing less than 15 feet away from the front door and never heard a thing. The music the restaurant was playing outside didn't help. Once sat inside, it is a turn-and-burn operation. Food is ordered, dropped off, payment is collected, and nothing more. Again, don't go here for the service, go for the noodles. The atmosphere is casual and bit cramped. It has a cafeteria-like feel inside and can get a little noisy. Parking can be tricky especially when busy since they share a small parking lot with neighboring businesses. Bottomline, Paik's Noodle is good for a quick and solid bite but that's about it.
