We got the Crispy Oyster Mushrooms and the Eggplant Tofu. The Crispy Oyster Mushrooms came in a portion size that was larger than we expected. They tasted like the Salt and Pepper Squid dish that my family gets from Chinese restaurants which we really like. However, the breading was heavy and a lot of the pieces at the bottom were oily. The Eggplant Tofu was solid. Both the Eggplant and tofu were cooked well and had a nice savory sauce. This dish came with rice on the side. Overall, giving Vegan District Asian Eatery a 4/5. My guests were standing in the rain waiting for 45 minutes for tacos....I felt so bad!! They also didn't come with lights for under their tent so the cook had to use his phone to see what they were doing. I recall I had a conversation with Tonya specifically to bring lights bc I wasn't sure what the parking lot would be like. The other downside was that Tonya wasn't super responsive. I was a little concerned this vendor would be a no show but I'm glad they did show up. It turns out she was receiving messages but just not acknowledging them, so to me it was a little worrying. The last negative was we did have to provide our own plates and disposables. Overall, I'm happy that we had tacos and that they were satisfying for drunken wedding guests, but I'm unhappy with the service speed, preparedness, and communication up front. Business ethics: Main issue I had was the displayed pricing on the menu, and the surprise new prices when we received our bill. One of our orders was for pork cutlet which clearly says $18 on the menu, when we received our bill, it said $21. I politely asked the waitress about it, I was simply told bluntly "oh the price went up" ...like really you couldn't tell us this when we were ordering. This is ILLEGAL business practices and in violation of "California honest pricing law" Under California's "Honest Pricing Law" (SB 478/SB 1524), restaurants must disclose all fees, excluding government taxes, in the menu price. I've read in previous reviews this is not a new thing in this restaurant. I should have read the reviews more closely. What's interesting is the price on yelp for pickup as of this review is $20, yet we were charged $21 in store. Food and service: As far the food, the portions were on the smaller side for the price, the side dishes were average, Service was not that great as well, even borderline rude.
