I dined at Nice Matin on Saturday night, outdoors. It took nearly 30 minutes for bread and butter to appear. Our entrees finally arrived. My sole Milanese was cold. The salad was sparse. The service person failed to bring my side dish, but the waitress did not appear anywhere near our table again, so I had to simply finish my meal without it. She finally arrived to offer desserts, and I asked her about the grilled flat bean side. She explained they "were sold out of them." I pointed out that the appropriate thing would have been to inform me, and offer an alternate side dish. She seemed stunned at this advice, as if I had just explained nuclear fission. She apologized and asked if I would like a bag of French fries to take home. This is not McDonalds. It's supposed to be fine dining. Her response was as unprofessional as her service. Cold entree. I had such high hopes for Nice Matin and it was such a let down. We ordered the mushroom soup to start and it was watery thin; no texture at all and very little flavor. Heavy heavy garlic and no creamy richness at all. The taste was garlic water. Dinner was just grilled fish and not very good grilled fish. Just very disappointed. read more

I really enjoyed a "nice" family dinner at Nice Matin! We started off with some drinks, ordering the Whiskey Sour Japonaise which I loved. They brought bread to the table and for appetizers we got the Mediterranean Fried Artichokes which were sooo good and the Endive salad which was so-so only because it was a tad bitter but I'm not used to the taste of endives. I ordered the special which was a delicious puréed broccoli and cheddar soup, would definitely order it again, and for my entrée I had the Petite Tuna Nicoise which was my favorite. It was the perfect portion but they instead of the 3oz appetizer you can also get it as a full entrée at 6oz of tuna. My family members got the Butternut Squash Gnocchi and the Canneloni Nicoise as well which looked great. Would definitely come back. Let me start off by saying my review for this place is a bit biased, as a celiac, because their gluten-free menu and separate preparation makes me very grateful. That said, my brunch burgers was a bit charred and my shoestring fries a bit too burnt. (Partly my fault as I asked for medium well after recently reading about parasites in beef, but I should've specified to cook through, not to burn the outside lol) The cappuccino is great, the service is fantastic, and the ambiance and location hard to beat. So I absolutely will be back, to try a different menu item, since my burger was so charred I ate only 1/3... but next time. read more

Went to eat there with my family, and it was not the first time but it will be for sure the last. I had a first bite into my tuna tartare and an ammonia taste covered my entire mouth. I call the manager, he came to explain and after checking in the kitchen he told me that they probably put too much of the citrus sauce on the tartare. First of all, I can make a difference between ammonia and a citrus. That was a lame excuse on his part. He took 50% of the price, but if I was managing the restaurant I would make sure that the fish is not sitting around the fridge for too long... Next dish was the ravioli. They probably sucked any moisture out of the ravioli meat. It was really dry.... So if you want to save yourself a visit to the doctor or a bad meal, find another restaurant in the neighborhood. read more

We had a suprisingly civilized dinner outdoors at Nice Matin. The heaters kept things comfy with temperatures in the mid to upper 30's. Our waitress was charming. Cocktails and wine were very good. The cassoulet was excellent. The salmon had to go back to the kitchen for a touch up, but was very good too. Too cold for dessert, but cappuccino and hot chocolate were on point. I was invited to brunch at Nice Matin so I read through the Yelp reviews in advance. Ironically, many said that service was at best lackluster, but thanks to Ashley G, our service was friendly, attentive, efficient and the highlight of our dining experience! The restaurant is nicely laid out and the food choices for brunch were plentiful. I had heard and read that Nice Matin was known for great burgers, so I and one of my dining partners went for that. The other member of our party had Cob salad with shrimp. My hamburger was ordered medium rare on the rare side and came out cooked exactly as ordered. The meat was flavorful, the quantity generous but for au poivre, it was a bit bland until I added more pepper. The bun was lightly toasted and complimented the meat quite well. The burger comes with fries but I was a good boy and asked for a side of salad instead. Now in theory that was a good thing, but I tried a fry one of my dining partners had received and before I caught myself, I had "sampled" over half of hers! I should also mention that the bread basket included some excellent mini bran muffins, and Ashely G made sure we had full water and coffee cups at all times. I've lived in this neighborhood for so many years, and today is the first day I came to brunch here. Really wonderful! Visited with friends from out of town. The staff is so wonderful and great. Delicious, creative dishes with seasonal ingredients. We loved the duck with cherries. Branzino was also good. Appetizers (summer salad and fried artichoke) were appetizing. These were all part of their restaurant week menu. Also, delicious cocktails (especially the one with passion fruit foam). Creme brulee was great. Wow. The service here has significantly deteriorated in the last year. Food is still pretty good but one needs to be prepared for VERY slow service. Went tonight and it took over 1 1/2 to get our dinner. The manager (I think it was her, one would assume they would introduce themselves as such, but again, this place really lacks on service) came over with a very tepid apology as they were backed up. My suggestion is to only dine here if you have no other options. Additionally, order right when you sit down and this way your meal will not be ruined. Really underwhelmed by this restaurant is the best way to describe our experience. Started off with the burrata. It was good served with some wild cherry tomatoes and a thick slice of grilled bread. The beer list was underwhelming, but for some wild reason they had LIC project Coded Tiles a great beer. We ordered entrees I had the chicken paillard they had the Duck Breast which was cooked almost to perfection. My chicken Paillard was extremely underwhelming. They topped it with chopped iceberg (really with all the lettuce choices available, iceberg ) the chicken could have been cooked a wee bit more too. I love the city on holidays because the crowds disappear- hence a delicious lunch at Nice Matin with no hassles. We were greeted by a nice waitress who was patient and accomodating. Wine: Bottle of New Zealand sauvignon blanc from their vast wine list which went very well with our meal. Appetizers: Asparagus bruschetta with a pistachio pesto and an egg on top- great dish Pommes Frites Entrees: Crab Cobb Salad- big chunks of crab - well presented Breaded Sole Milanese-also very good. I went here with my wife and cousins on a Friday night. It was a last minute thing so we couldn't get a table inside so we had to sit in the outdoor area. Food was delicious. I had some sort of salad with chicken and it was bomb dot com. Had some good herbs and spices. I think the shallots are what did it for me. Negatives were that the food took a bit longer than I was hoping and we got approached by like 4 different panhandlers while we were there. Came here with a bunch of friends for a birthday celebration on the last day of restaurant week! This is definitely a fancy restaurant but not to the extent where you feel underdressed in casual clothing. The waiter that we had kind of gave off a snooty attitude but it's not the worst service I've experienced. Appetizers: Kale salad- Wow if salad always tastes this good I would eat it everyday! I really liked the kale and the vinaigrette dressing! Goat cheese tart- A rather salty appetizer but I like salty food! The goat cheese had a sharp taste that I enjoyed and the bacon on top was good. It didn't seem like they complimented each other that well though. Ceviche- Very refreshing and definitely a great appetizer to open up your taste buds! Entrees: Ricotta gnocchi- The texture of the gnocchi was great and I also loved the mushroom/parmesan sauce but the portion was so little! It's listed under appetizers on the regular menu but for restaurant week its under entrees wtf?? Duck confit meatloaf- The duck was a little dry but the fact that its a meatloaf explains why. I did enjoy the taste though and I thought the veggies and mashed potatoes complimented the duck very well. Desserts: Cranberry walnut tart- This had a very rich walnut flavor which I liked but overall it was a bit too sweet for my liking. Citrus panna cotta- The first few bites were delicious because the orange on top balanced out the sweetness of the cream on the bottom! But after the citrus was gone, it became a bit too heavy and sweet. It needs some citrus flavor on the bottom too to balance out the sweetness/heaviness! Fig bread pudding- I took a bite of this and thought it was pretty good! Vanilla creme brulee- Loved the brulee on top! The creme, again, was just a bit too sweet for me. Overall I would rate this as a slightly less than average restaurant week experience. The food, while tasty, came in very small portions and were not exactly filling. Decor was great but service was only average. I would recommend trying out someplace else during the next restaurant week! read more

Not a ton of choices in this area (we were going to Beacon to see Seinfeld). But Infatuation lead us here, and happy they did! House cocktails were all really tasty (try the Japanese whisky sour). Recommend the fried artichoke and octopus starters; both with side accompaniments that really enhanced the dishes. Had to beg for our bread basket which was never brought out (for sopping up the escargot). Steak Frites was perfection; charred nicely and perfectly uniformly pink throughout, served with a tangy Béarnaise and textbook frites. I found Nice Matin recently and I'm so happy that I did. It's a great little French bistro and I appreciate that they serve brunch 7 days a week. I judge restaurants that offer brunch harshly on the perfection of their poached egg and the eggs for by Benedict were 10/10. Located in the UWS, this location offers everything from burgers and sandwiches to lobster sausage and duck. The interior is lovely and bright with an indoor/outdoor feel. They also have outdoor dining space, both regular and heated. Nice Matin is central to some great spots in the UWS so it's a good starting point for your day or place to end up. read more

I have only had a few covid-era outdoor winter dining experiences, as I am very cautious, but having spotted what seemed like a great setup we decided to go for it at Nice Matin. The set up WAS great. We were in the structure which was open on two sides and dividers between parties. The heaters were from the roof and they could have been better positioned to heat the people (I noticed my water was very warm, while I was cold haha) but ultimately definitely good enough on a 30 degree day. The food was delicious. I had the vanilla malt waffle--as a vegetarian who is not currently eating eggs (I eat it in things, just not alone), this was my only option. I would have loved more options, but this one was delicious. My partner had the burger which he liked, and I enjoyed a few of his fries. We also got lattes and some warm, delicious cocktails. Went for Restaurant Week, I did not do the prize fix menu but my boyfriend did. We had mussels, chicken, escargots, cacio pepe and creme brulee. The escargots were not what I was expecting, it was not the regular snails, this had gnocchi and bacon in it which gave it a very different flavor. The waiters/waitresses are all well dressed and attentive. Nice big windows overlooking the busy streets. I ordered the spicy lamb sausage and egg scramble, which came with coffee/tea, bread basket, and fresh fruit. The lamb sausage was so delicious and mouthwatering. I loved the creme on top as well as the tomatoes. Fruits were tasty and fresh. Bread was toasted and not dry. Beautiful presentation. Nice big teapot brought out with large tea selection. I would give 0 or negative stars if I could. I went with my son (had reservations all week) and was excited for Mother's Day brunch. The service was nonexistent. It was almost as though our table was not assigned to a server or that we were invisible. Twenty-five minutes for tap water. I had asked the hostess politely at the 15 minute mark who our server was. At the twenty minute mark I complained to the manager who said they were busy and someone would be coming and said he would bring bottled water. The table of four seated 10 minutes after us and four feet to my left had water and coffee and placed their orders by the time our tap water showed up. At this point if it had not been Mothers Day (with no possibility of getting a reservation anywhere else) I would have left. After another 5-8 minutes, flagged down a girl to place drink orders. Flagged down the manager to inquire about our drinks about ordering food and a boy came over to take our food order. Table of four's food arrived when our coffee did (40 minutes in). My son's cappuccino arrived spilled - running down all the sides of the cup and pooled in the saucer. The drip coffee and OJ were good. Food came out about five minutes after coffee/OJ. Bacon was good and French toast was average. Had to request milk for coffee multiple times. Had to request syrup for French toast. When I was nearly done eating the bottled water I had asked the manager for arrived. The girl (new, we had not encountered her yet) who brought the water was VERY sweet. When I looked a little deflated explaining we had ordered it over 30 minutes ago and we were nearly done eating she looked aghast and said 'oh god I am so sorry.' She was the only person that apologized...the only one. Once I flagged someone down for the bill, that was processed quickly. At that point I just wanted to leave, Brunch was ruined. Possibly the table behind me was also having issues as the manager was explaining to them that 'yes the restaurant could handle this many people at once' and there were many factors that went into the customer's service experience (e.g. everyone arriving at once, bar backed up, etc.) In conclusion (in case you could not tell), I will not go back and could never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I understand Mothers Day/Valentine's Day are difficult for restaurants and you are unlikely to see them at their best. However I would expect the deficits to be fairly uniform. What I cannot fathom is the gap in service between our table versus others around us who were seated later and the attitude by management that this was acceptable because they were busy. So we left and never found out who our server was actually supposed to be. read more
