The 5-star reviews are interesting considering the actual quality of this restaurant. We went in tonight for dinner and their holiday special drinks at "St. Nick's" (which has become kind of a tradition) and left, honestly, kind of disgusted. The food is mediocre at best, but don't let the owner hear that because he'd probably argue with you that they have the best food around. I ordered the brisket which was very thinly sliced (probably to make sure it was actually tender) which was basically swimming in soy sauce- and here I thought brisket was barbecue. The owner came by and bragged that it had spent 12 hours cooking overnight and they pulled it out of the oven that morning- so how was it still fresh at 6pm (I guess from sitting in a vat of hot soy sauce)? We were also dripped on multiple times from a leaking pipe above our heads. The waiter said "oh yeah that's been leaking for years- the owner is too lazy and too cheap to fix it". We told the owner who was walking around to all tables- not to ask how everything was, but instead to crack jokes and then leave immediately- and he said something along the lines of "oh yeah well did you see the rain this morning" and then immediately walked away. Final straw was 2 women in our party went into the women's bathroom and there were visible leaks in the ceiling with 3 tubs catching the drips, visible holes in the wall and tiles missing, and only one of the stalls actually locked so only one of them could use the bathroom at a time. Don't let the 5-star reviews fool you....this place is a dive. Won't be going back

Locals actually told us not to go here. They said it's not any good but my husband insisted because of memories with his dad here 20+ years ago as a small kid. I'm so glad we came. The food was good! I loved ambiance it was amazing. Crab dip was good, Ribs were good, flat bread was good, wine and beer good, service was excellent with louie. No idea what others have a problem with here. Lol! We will totally come back next time we are in the area. I think you should check it out too!

Had a good experience at Nick's last night. The food was good and prompt, and service was very attentive. Our waiter, in particular, seemed like a very nice fellow. Initially, I was at a bit of a loss as to all the negative reviews, but I think part of it might be how odd and outdated the restaurant is inside. The entire wall that's a Jumbotron with animation like Finding Nemo is just...weird. And the table next to us, which I presume was reserved, had ridiculously oversized candelabra on it. The decor was like something out of a late 1960s sitcom. Maybe I should have only given them three stars, but they helped us out of a jam last night when the first restaurant we went to for dinner clearly wasn't getting any food out, so we left that one and landed at Nick's.

King Ribs long as my arm delicious. Met owner, Super nice friendly guy!

Great food great service. Been going for 36 yrs. Got king Ribs! Owner greeted us at door, got us a great seat and talked to us for a minute.

The line moved at a decent pace but it seemed like only one person was taking orders despite having several people behind the counter. There was ample seating on the inside with the option to sit outside and look at the water. What we got: Banging Shrimp tacos - 4* the banging shrimp was really good but couldn't really shine in the taco. I'd probably have enjoyed it more as a platter. Fish tacos - 4* according to my partner, 3* according to me. While it was really good and things seemed to pair well, there wasn't a lot of flavouring to add pizzazz. Sides tried - Coleslaw - 3* nothing special. - Cucumber and tomatoe salad - 4* the best side of the bunch. - Fries - 3* nothing special. The Jo Bay seasoning on the table enhanced the flavour a lot.

We were set on getting the salmon and the swordfish dishes which we did, and it did not disappoint! They were the most delicious dishes I had experienced in a long time. I asked about the seasoning on the salmon and the waitress, who was fabulous, said it was Moroccan. I loved the hint of cinnamon but according to the Moroccan spice I looked at on the web, it is a combination of numerous spices which amounts to a delicious combination of flavors. Both dishes were paired perfectly with their sides and sauces. I have never left a review about a restaurant before. This will be one of my few unforgettable meals. If dining inside, bring a sweater. They don't skimp on their air-conditioning. It was a cool night so we ate outside which was nice, but what made it nicer was our wonderful waitress, Fanika(?), who had the most awesome, helpful, outgoing personality that makes a dining experience that much better. And she was right about the coconut espresso martini. It was delicious! She also mentioned that the menus are seasonal so I am looking forward to returning to Hooked when I'm back in OC and trying other meals. I'm hooked!!

The Chef looks familiar, I think I tasted his food before at one of the Celebrity Chefs Brunches for Meals on Wheels. I remember it being fantastic. There is outside dining but I booked inside as we weren't sure how warm it would be in May. It turned out to be a cold and windy weekend so we were very glad to be inside, plus the outside tables have a view of the highway. What a cute little restaurant inside; it is very tiny. We were crammed into a table in the corner. It was difficult to get past the other diners at their tables, and we could hear all the conversations around us. Every table was packed, I can't imagine what it's like in this room during the busy summer. Noelle was our server and she was amazing; very knowledgeable and friendly. She described the homemade bread service to us, and we ordered 2 Coastalpolitans which were made with Tito's Vodka, lime, soju, St. Germaine, and cranberry. They were sweet, and tart, and bright, and delicious. We decided on crab toast instead of the bread, and Noelle said we made the right choice. Wow, she was correct. The crab toast blew us away. It was chunks of crab on fluffy, crispy milk bread with pickled scallions, radish, lemon aioli, kelp powder, and lime. So beautiful and so delectable! RJ ordered the Pork Chop, which Noelle said One Coastal is known for, and I ordered the NJ Day Boat Scallops. We had no words. We sat there and quietly enjoyed every bite while listening to the surrounding tables, and knew we found a maybe not so hidden gem. My scallops were delicate and buttery and sweet, and melted in my mouth. RJ said his pork chop was tender and juicy, and the best he ever had. That is saying something. We finished with bread pudding because who doesn't love a good bread pudding, and we like to try it whenever we see one that looks interesting. It was salty and sweet and just so perfect. What One Coastal lacks in space and view, it makes up for with food and service. What a delightful place, and Noelle was a pleasure and a joy. We will definitely return to try all the other things and be lucky to sit anywhere inside or out.
